Blink: Rogues

Blink: Rogues flying FREE!

It’s been quite a journey, full of challenges and excitement, but it is time for the Fox Dive studio team to move on to different projects. Blink: Rogues has taught us a lot about what it means to create and publish a game and the feedback from our community has been invaluable along the way.

What’s the next step, you ask? Here’s what we decided:
- We will no longer be offering support for Blink: Rogues
- We will offer Blink: Rogues as a FREE GAME! (subject to Steam approval, around 20 Apr 2022 )

Thank you to all who have come along with us on this journey… and hello and welcome to all the new players now joining!

Enjoy the ride and happy fraggin'!

Blink: Rogues Release

Blink: Rogues is going live!

For about one year in Early Access, we've listened to users' feedback and we have rehauled the graphics, the single player campaign, and we have tweaked some of the mechanics. What's left, you may ask?

The same sheer fun of, Blinking between lanes, to steal an opponent's Boss and Megahealth, or to kill a chunk of enemies while chasing the 3 stars in every mission! ːsteamhappyː

The graphics

The new lowpoly graphics were widely more appreciated by the users than the old ones, more in-tune with the game setting, and also way faster to tweak! Win-win-win!

Blink & Flip

We started by asking what if we made a splitscreen shmup-like game, but with a twist: be able to teleport to the opponent's screen and steal his loot, or simply kill them? And so appeared BLINK.
Somewhere along the way we also noticed that if a ship had passed you, you either had to give up on it, or spend a lot of time flying around. We thought that maybe laziness has its merits, and so we came up with FLIP.

Multiplayer

You don't necessarily have to be very competitive, all it takes is having a friend that you feel like punching from time to time - frag them in PvP a couple of times and you'll feel instantly refreshed! ːsteamhappyː Alternatively, you can now play Co-op Mode, which will really test your collaboration skills!

Singleplayer

New mechanics aside, some people really wanted a solo challenge, and the classic shmup feel. We have quite a challenge for them as well, in the form of the single player campaign, that they can try to master by getting 100% destruction in each mission, and/or making it to the leaderboards. Funny enough, these are not the same thing!
And if that is not enough, we also have the Survival Mode, run the entire campaign with only one ship!

Next Steps

We're planning to add more content in form of maps and enemies in the near-future, as well as a Party-Mode: create local tournaments of up to 8 players! ːsteamhappyː

Survival mode and New missions added

(RE)ADDED DEMO VERSION

You don't have to believe everything we're gonna tell you, you can try it for yourself right now! The demo is free, and now comes with an extra mission available to play!

STORY MODE COMPLETE

We're happy to announce that Blink's single player campaign can now be fully enjoyed in both solo and co-op!

It took us long enough to reach this point, yet we simply wanted to roll out the best possible experience with each and every mission you play. We wanted to not only provide variety through uniquely designed enemy formations, but to also bring forth a solid mix of sharp reflexes and tactics.

Our goal was to create an easy to learn - hard to master gameplay that is quickly understood and adopted yet layered enough to sustain a challenge.

SINGLE PLAYER SUPERSTARS

Ready to take on the challenge? Of course you are!
The total number of stars is 30, three for each mission, set from easy (50% kills) to medium (75% kills) and finally to hard (100% full wipeout).

As with the per mission and general leader board, we've added a special ranking for the number of stars gained throughout the single player campaign. This will allow you to not only track your progress, but see how well you stand versus the competition.

SURVIVAL

You thought reaching three stars on the final set of missions was hard? Then how about cranking that up by reaching three stars for EACH mission, one after the other, with only ONE LIFE to play with.
Thats right, this is for the big boys and we're more than excited to see how well you can make it in this mode.

Each wave will drop you power crates, allowing you to shift strategy by changing your powers from both sides of the screen.

Survival mode will unlock once you complete all single player missions and will be available through the mission select menu.

OTHER UPDATES

Aside of the above, here is a changelog highlighting the most important updates:

  • - New VFX added for weapons and special powers
  • - Powers, enemy drops and score balancing
  • - New Boss ship added
  • - A LOT of bug fixes

Added Story Cubes and dialogue improvements!

We've very happy to announce that we have implemented the Story Cubes, as many people have wondered what are the reasons, what exactly is Blink, who are all these people and what do they want.ːsteamhappyː

We have chosen to tell the story by Tanya's journal, and progressing in game will unlock "cubes", fragments of this journal. Together with the dialogues in the Mission Briefing, we think the outlook should be complete ːsteamhappyː

Also, since some users did not understand that the Mission Briefing has a dialogue as well, together with some useful options like powers and control scheme, we decided to do a revamp of the page in order to make it more obvious.

New UI and Remade Missions!

Even if the new UI has been teased lately, we are nevertheless eager to see how you find it ːsteamhappyː But today's update is equally as much about another important milestone - the rehaul of the single player missions. That's right, they were remade, and a star system was added as well. Ready to learn more? ːsteamhappyː

We wanted the Story gameplay to offer a different kind of challenge, one that combines the shoot'em'up feel with our Blink and Flip mechanics, and still make sense. The new waves require a lot more interaction and Blinking and finding the optimal flow in order to kill everything and obtain the fabled 3 stars. But even if you are not a completionist, we think we've added quite a few new mechanics and gimmicks that will put a smile on your face ːsteamhappyː

And while the death is still not very punishing, we've heard rumours that not getting hit will definitely help you obtain a high score ːsteammockingː

The devil is in the details

Today's update is about the new central in-game widget. This is how it will look after the next update:

At first glance, it kinda resembles the old one, except that now it's easier to read, we got rid of the redundant information, and focused on the really important parts.

As the title says, the devil really is in the details.

New Mission Select screen

We have another new screen to show, the one we are the most proud of. Mission Select is one of central places for our new UI, one that we think the players will come back to pretty often. You can see it in action here

With this update, we have completed a bit over half of the UI revamp. We're very eager to show it, but it will take a bit more time. In the meantime, please let us know what you think so far, and stay tuned!

Working on a better Mission Briefing

We've received some wildly divergent feedback for the Mission briefing screen. While some of players thought the dialogues were slow and boring, others were having a hard time reading everything in time !

In order to please everyone, we made the dialogues advance on keypress, while also remaking the whole page. It looks more slick, and we also added some useful mission details and controls.

Can you also spot something else in this screen? A new feature, perhaps?

Spring News - Unveiling the new UI

We know we've been silent lately, it is because we've been hard at work giving Blink: Rogues a new look! That is right, the user interface is getting remade, and we really hope you like it.

While reimplementing the UI from scratch is neither easy nor fast, we will regularly post sneak peeks on our current status. Without further ado, today we have the Main Menu in action , and we'll have more good news in the days to come, so stay tuned!

Last but not least, please let us know what you think.

Major multiplayer overhaul!

It’s been some time since we had an update and this next one’s a real game-changer: it literally changes the multiplayer gameplay!

A lot of the feedback we’ve gotten on Blink: Rogues was related to our namesake mechanic: the Blink. And the feedback we’ve gotten was different and often conflicting: there should be more of it or less of it, it should be more visible or stealthier and so on. But one way or another, we knew there was room for improvement. So for the past few weeks we’ve been (play)testing different hypothesis to make matches in Blink: Rogues more action-packed than ever before. Here’s what we’ve got for you:

  • BLINK WITH NO HARD-LIMIT - Is your friend Jim getting ahead of you in the game? Now you can pester him by Blinking to his screen to steal or kill as much as your heart desires.

  • BLINK + SPECIAL POWERS = ♥ - Jim won’t know what hit him when the moment you Blink to his screen, your EMP power activates! Special powers are no longer button activated, instead they activate on Blink. Before the match starts, you choose one power for Blinking to your opponent’s screen and one for Blinking back. Choose from: Invulnerability, EMP, Double Damage and Shockwave (for now). And then you’re all set for wreaking havoc the moment you Blink!

  • FLIP MECHANIC - Did Jim think he was safe shooting you in the back after he Blinked to your screen? Not anymore! You can flip your ship to shoot him in the face! How about that, Jim?

  • NO WORDS TUTORIAL - Wanna give Jim the surprise of a lifetime by mastering the new mechanics in Blink: Rogues before a match? Give our new tutorial a try. And never fear, the other Single Player missions await their turn to be revamped to match the changes we’ve made in multiplayer. So stay tuned for updates on that front!

Let us know what you think and good luck chasing and fragging your friends!
