Publishing to Poly - Current Issues

Hello All,

We just wanted to inform you that we are currently experiencing some issues when publishing models from Blocks to Poly.

Our team is on top of the problem and hopes to release a fix soon. We will post here again once this is resolved. At this time, you will also be able to to retry publishing anything you attempted to publish while the issue was present.

We will report back here soon!

Best,
Brittany, on behalf of the Blocks Team

Blocks v4.0.1

There was an issue preventing users from logging into Blocks. This issue has now been resolved.

Blocks v4.0

Blocks v4 is officially here with some of your most-requested features to make creating in Blocks even more precise and easier:

- New environments: We’ve added alternative environments to include a dark environment, a plain white environment, and a plain black environment, along with the option to switch between environments. Just head to the Blocks menu and you’ll see a new environments tab, which looks like an image of a landscape.
- Better snapping: We’ve improved the experience around snapping to be more predictable when being used. Lightly press the alternate trigger to see a line showing where one object will snap to another. A full press of the trigger will snap the object to the place it’s pointing.
- Consistent alignment: We’ve added more consistency in alignment behaviors so that regardless of the tool you are using, alignment will always be consistent.
- Welcome to Labs! We’ve added a new Labs section on the menu that allows you to test experimental features. Look for the beaker icon on the left hand side of the Blocks menu to open this section. In this section, we’ve added the ability for you to enable non-coplanar faces and loop subdivide. To enable loop subdivide, hold down the trigger while subdividing a face to see the loop form around the mesh. Note: non-coplanar faces will be enabled when using loop subdivide.
- Edge, Vertex, and Face Deletion: In the Labs section, we’ve also added an edge, vertex, and face deletion tool. Enable the option in Labs and use the eraser tool to erase edges, faces, and verts. Note: non-coplanar faces will be enabled when using this deletion tool.
- Step-by-Step Undo While Selecting: We’ve also added the ability to perform a stepwise undo/redo of something that has been selected. Enable the option in Labs and then make a multi-selection. Use the undo and redo buttons on your non-dominant controller to undo or redo steps in your multi-selection. Make sure to keep your dominant trigger pressed, so you can keep selecting after making your corrections.
- Shape Insertion Ruler: You can now use a ruler to accurately measure a mesh while inserting it! Enable the option in Labs and insert a shape using the shape tool. As you drag and insert the shape, you will see measurements on the height, width, and length.
- Show Worldspace Grids: You can now enable a worldspace grid to help with precision. Enable the option in Labs and you will see grids along every side of your worldspace. Grab the pink spheres on the grids to create additional grids throughout your workspace.
- Expanded Mesh Wireframe: We’ve added the ability to expand the wireframe that shows while reshaping a mesh. Enable the option in Labs and use the modify tool. Next time you go to reshape a mesh, you will see the wireframe on the entire mesh and not just the portion closest to you.
- Additional performance improvements to help your creation process in the app run smoother.

We look forward to seeing what you create with these improvements!

Blocks v3.0.1

The save selected feature, introduced in our v3.0 release, caused the application to crash when saving selected objects in specific scenarios. We have since added a fix for this crash.

Blocks v3.0

Blocks v3 is here with some brand new features to make your modeling even more powerful:

- We’ve improved the experience around selecting multiple objects to make your selections easier to see. Now if you select multiple objects they will become very transparent when your controller is close to them to make it easier to distinguish between selected and unselected meshes.
- You can now save just a portion of your scene as its own model. Make a selection using the grab tool and then look for the “Save selected” option in the save menu. This is especially helpful if you are modeling from a kit!
- You can now rotate faces while reshaping (previously only available while extruding).
-. If you’re tired of waiting for the intro sequence to finish, you can now hold down both triggers to skip.
- And plenty of performance improvements to make your complex model and scene creation smoother.

Blocks v2.0.2

FBX exports, introduced in our v2.0 release, caused issues for a small group of users, causing the app to crash. We apologize for the breakage, and have since pushed a fix!

Blocks v2.0

Blocks v2 is now live with a focus on making the end to end creation workflow easier:

- You asked us for more export formats, we’re happy to deliver! Blocks will now export an .fbx file and a triangulated .obj file along with our existing obj file. Find options to download these formats in the Blocks gallery for your models, as well as others’ remixable models.

- We’ve fixed a number of small issues around how our exported files can be interpreted by other tools. Our 3D exports should now work seamlessly in other tools, but let us know in the comments if any newly-saved models present issues in other programs.

- Reference images are now easier to grab, show a highlight when hovered, can be snapped to the grid, and have a satisfying smash when thrown away.

- We’ve made a number of performance improvements: Blocks should run much more smoothly when viewing and manipulating complex scenes. Further, if you make really complex changes (copying a lot of complex meshes, for example), you’ll see your changes animate in bit-by-bit.

- Downloaded Blocks models are now cached, so they will load immediately next time, and Blocks will use much less Internet bandwidth after the first load.

- Blocks now remembers which hand is your dominant hand. In addition to bumping the bottoms of controllers together to change handedness, you can now also set your handedness in the Options menu (after opening the menu using the red button, click on your profile icon to find your Options).

- Tooltips now show up more usefully to help you discover features like snapping and selecting multiple objects at once. If you’re already a pro, you can now disable tooltips entirely in the Options menu.

- The paintbrush tool will now auto-open if you select a color with a non-painting tool selected.

- And we’ve made browsing featured models better when not signed in.

Blocks v1.0.5

Version 1.0.5 is now live with a few enhancements to make creating in Blocks easier:

- Improvements for OBJ export: groups will be retained in the OBJ file, and dummy UVs have been added for easier import into Unity and other programs
- Models imported into your scene and later deleted will no longer count as having been remixed on vr.google.com/objects
- Small fixes for grid mode to prevent objects from sometimes failing to line up
- Multi-selected faces will be retained when switching between reshape and extrude
- Additional performance improvements to help the app run more smoothly with complex models

We look forward to seeing what you create with these improvements!

Blocks v1.0.4

We've just released version 1.0.4 which contains the following:

- A fix for reference image insertion. A previous bug would render the app unusable if you selected to insert a reference image while in the app but did not choose to actually do so.

- A fix for OBJ exports containing specific types of subdivided cylinders. Faces were missing from a small set of OBJs due to this issue. It should be resolved for all similar models saved in the future.

- Additional performance improvements to make the app run more smoothly.
