Hi!



Another update. It is so great to see that you are playing the game again and that you like what you see. ːsteamhappyː It would be fantastic if the reviews could be updated to reflect this (hint hint..). Just reaching a "Mixed" score would be so awesome I would eat my own beard.

Highlights:

I decided that you should be able to unlock doors from the inside. This means all the doors leading to roofs and balconies in castles are now usable.

Better lighting in caves and under water. Also fixed a buch of rendering issues.

A first version of a dynamic weather system I have been working on. Very simple for now. It will randomly select a few parameters at random times. You will see things like dense fog without direct sunlight (like in the image above). Later on I will add things like falling snow and rain.

Blockscape bsng v7 (build 4136320) released!

Just a few fixes. The Worker getting stuck in a loop trying to open locked doors is a game breaking bug so I decided to make a quick update.

Full list of changes:

[x] Cube scalar field (smooth voxel) tool is now available in survival mode.
[x] Fixed "Can't select tool in inventory when it has no materials" glitch.
[x] Workers will not try to open locked doors anymore.
[x] Fixed speed of sphere scalar field tool. It was way too fast.
[x] Fixed some cases where parts of hotbar was visible when menu was open.

[x] Added manifest to tell Windows that Blockscape is dpiAware. Hopefully this will fix problems with 4k screens.
[x] Delayed worm spawning. You now have enough time to open and close doors without them spawning.
[x] Worms will self destruct in a few seconds if they don't find anything to eat.

[x] Fixed glitch in Worker bed allocation that allowed the same worker to allocated more than one bed.

BSNG is now official and the store page have new images.

Yes I decided to make bsng the default build. So you can now opt out of any beta if you want the latest.

I have added new images to the store page. Please tell me what you think. Needs more or less images? Or maybe some other images?

I'm also working on a new trailer that will hopefully be ready this weekend.

Some words about next update (bsng v6)

First of all I'm happy to see that the review score went up 1 percent. ːsteamhappyː
I have been working on this game almost every day for the last 8 years so it means the world to me with such a small positive thing amongs all the negativity.

So what can you expect from the next update:

Less aggressive worms. You will now have enough time to open/close doors without them spawning and they will self destruct after a few seconds if they don't find anything to eat.

Updated worker models and animations. As you see in the image above the workers now use the same models as the settlers. They feel a lot more alive with idle animations and with correct height and proportions.

I have also done some changes that will hopefully solve problems with 4k displays.

The update will be out in a few days.

Blockscape bsng v5 (build 4095242) released!

[x] Tools found in containers are now usable.
[x] Optimized world loading and memory usage.
[x] Generate structures option.
[x] Monsters that you have killed are now still dead after save/load.

The "generate structures option" is set to "no" for old savegames. This is needed in order to stay compatible with all the worlds that people have built in the last months. So if you built something near a generated structure in the last few days since the last update it may look a bit strange. Sorry about that!

Some words about next update (bsng v5)

If you have taken over a house or castle and then saved/loaded your game you may have noticed that the monsters you killed are back again. I'm working on a fix for that right now.

Optimized world generator and memory usage. I'm always working on optimizations and in v5 I will include the latest progress in this area.

Some tools you find in chests and drawers are unusable because they have invalid material combinations. This is also fixed in v5.

As promised I put together a list of the most important features and fixes that made it into v4:

[x] Better hitboxes for monsters.
[x] Correct source position for destruction particles
[x] UI slot for righ hand tool.
[x] Swans are back.
[x] Enigmas are back.
[x] Added houses.
[x] Added castles.
[x] State models locking. Only used by doors for now.
[x] Container state models.
[x] Added ui for container state models. Lower part of inventory when openening (clicking) on state model.
[x] Added drag an drop between different types of ui slots.
[x] Added guard monster type.
[x] No more falling through ground.
[x] Lots of optimizations.
[x] Added logic to make blocks indestructible. Used by buildings.
[x] Helmet recipe.
[x] Helmets now have efficiency thst is used in hit point calculations. In other words: they work. :)
[x] Added cooldown effect to all weapons. Visualized by frame intensity of weapon slot. No more spam clicking.
[x] Bigger weapons take more damage but have longer cooldown.
[x] Added document state model.
[x] Added note document type. Clicking on a note opens the document for reading.
[x] Added world map document type. Taking the map claims the land and all buildings in the area becomes destructible.
[x] Player will be pushed away by big detonations like golem hits.
[x] smoother character animations.
[x] Swans and foxes will try to flee when player get close.
[x] New block models for most tree types.
[x] Potions works now (health and food).
[x] All tool properties and material hardness better balanced. Much harder to dig by hand now.
[x] Starfish is back.
[x] You can now eat most of the bugs. They don't restore much hunger but is better than nothing.
[x] Mushrooms are back. Generated in shadow. Mostly under trees.
[x] Small rocks are now scattered in some areas. Usefull when building your first tool.
[x] Added textures to skin, fur and clothes.

  • Fire simulation is working again.
  • Fix for initial spawn position (could be far above ground in previous version)
  • Fixed walking sounds
  • Worm spawn only from soft organic (grass, soil, snow, sand) materials now. (Spawned from any organic material including stone in previous versions)
  • Fixed the rare "can't build from certain angles" bug.


I think we are close to making this official now.
