We are only 7 days away from the full launch of Blood West! To help you while away the hours, we have prepared a new video series that will showcase the many ways that you can build and gear up your revenant gunslinger. It should also prove mighty helpful for all those freshly reanimated gunslingers out there. Without further ado, Ladies and Gentlemen, Hyperstrange presents The Silent Hunter Archetype Showcase.
Archetype Showcase - Silent Hunter
Feeling inspired already? Most of the items and perks in the showcase are already available in the Early Access, while others like Spite will await you in Chapter 3 and in the full version of Blood West that will be coming on the 5th of December!
Blood West Bestiary - Prodigal Daughter
You know her, you love her - it's the Prodigal Daughter! Tune in to another episode of the Blood West Bestiary to learn more about the deadly gal. In case some folk have missed the previous ones, you can catch up on them on our social media and Discord.
Follow and subscribe so as not to miss future episodes:
Intrigued by the video? Then we would also like to invite you to a small event that we are cooking up with our partner, Jared R. Blaire. You'll be searching for information and clues to assemble the best gang of creators in the Wild West! More info about the fun and prizes can be found on our Discord!
That is all for today, Happy Hunting!
Hotfix to 2.4.0
Changelog:
Fixed bug causing erratic behavior in enemies where they would go idle and lose their inventory (no loot)
If you've experienced the mentioned bug your save file has become corrupt. To fix it make your character rest. Resting will cause the level to reload correctly, effectively fixing the save file.
Again sorry for the distress and inconvenience this bug might have caused some of you.
Good hunting! Hyperstrange
Exciting news + Final Early Access maintenance update
Howdy Gunslingers,
With today’s update we are not only bringing you a plethora of changes but not one but TWO surprises. Grab your best cowboy hat and giddy up, it is time to get HYPED!
Blood West meets Ghoultown
Yup, your peepers ain’t decivinn’ ya, the horror punk band Ghoultown will be performing a brand new song, written specially for Blood West. But that ain’t all, we also have a brand new animation for this kick-ass occasion and on the 20th of November everything will come together for the very first Blood West Animated Music Video!
Now for the second surprise. Can’t get enough of Blood West’s lore? Then keep your eye out for the new Blood West Bestiary series that will be dropping on our social media channels! Today you can hear what a certain someone, whom you have already “met” in the game has to say about the Hellbear.
Follow and subscribe so as not to miss future episodes:
Last but not least, we have the aforementioned 2.4.0 update. It is a lengthy one, so better grab something to drink.
Major:
Revamped perk system - overhauled the whole perk tree, introduced new perks, merged others and in general gave players more freedom to express their builds in more detailed ways.
When loading an old save on this version of the game, character points and level will be reset and player will be given the correct amount of points to re-distribute
Major balance pass to everything, from enemies to items, perks and more
New Voice Over for our undead gunslinger from Stephen Russell himself!
Big optimization task has been completed and players should see an increase in fps across the board
Improvements to how enemies hear the player. No more jumping assassins flying towards their prey without a sound! Shooting near a building is now a risk of angering a whole lot of trouble inside.
Added beds to Chapter 1 to keep it consistent with other maps and to add more options for the players regarding fast traveling (Chicken Heads are still needed, so look out for those!)
Chapter 1 boss - alternative route is now connected to the actual fight. The way players go about that route will influence how hard the fight will be. Or you know, you could still go straight to the arena if you feel tough.
Boss fight of Chapter 2 has been improved and should pose more of a challenge
You asked for it. You got it: autosort button is available in inventory.
Fanning for revolvers - a proper gunslinger’s best friend is here.
Other changes, improvements and additions:
A new potion has been introduced that allows respec of player’s character.
Previously known areas may be a bit different… (Chapter 1 mostly)
Enemy placement and balance across the board has been improved
New option for setting up the frequency of our beloved protagonist’s barks - you wouldn’t dare to turn those off, would you?
LOTS of language improvements, corrected typos and other gremlins
VO for Jim Hooper has been changed
Mouse wheel and space are now correctly bindable as player wishes
Magpie buff from Totem of Souls has been nerfed
Improved the in-game compass - now it shows the world directions like a good compass should
Ammunition from bags is now usable by the player - reload away! No more having to open inventory, find your bag and unpack those damn bullets manually each time you wanted to reload.
Player character will lower his weapon when talking to NPCs. A bit of good manners.
Lots of general audio improvements
Bug fixes:
A number of possible crashes has been addressed
At very specific circumstances, NPCs from Chapter 2 would not act according to their story route
Bunch of quality of life improvements across the board ie. how double clicking to move items works in certain scenarios
Fixed a case when it was possible to miss an attack when using a knife and sneaking behind an enemy
Tomahawk can no longer crash the game when thrown at lamp
You will no longer respawn in wrong camp in 3rd Chapter after certain story threshold
With the end of Steam's Scream Fest we will be updating the current price of Blood West from its discounted Early Access price of $14.99 to its final standard price of somewhere under $25.
This is not only a tip of the hat to all of ya who have been with us from the very start, but also a reflection on the current value proposition of Blood West. Not to mention the fact that we love delivering you new content to enjoy and we would love to do so long after the 1.0 release.
And as you know, we are coming closer to the full release date, which is the 5th of December, and the release of our most ambitious chapter as of yet - Chapter 3.
New and old characters will make an apperance along with a host of new nightmares and environments that are, dare I say, pinnacles of what our team has delivered so far. You will be also able to enojoy the new skill tree along with brand new weapons and artifacts. This will bring the core game's playtime up to 20+ hours. Furthermore, we are in the process of adding new animated cutscenes and upgrading the overall presentation - you might have seen already some samples before *wink wink*.
There is also this awesome guy who has joined the Blood West's voice cast - Stephen Russell. The one and only voice of Garret from the Thief series, Corvo Attano from Dishonored, and Nick Valentine from Fallout 4 to name just a few.
If you can't wait for December, then keep an eye out on your favourite Youtube channels for early previews. Alternatively, if you have a bustling channel or you know someone who might fit the bill, then mosey on over to Keymailer or Lurkit and sign up for a chance to play Chapter 3 early.
See you soon, Partners!
Blood West EP 2 - Russian Update
Russian localization for the 2nd episode.
Chapter 3 Trailer & Surprise Announcement
Gunslingers,
Today we join our friends at Realms Deep, a gaming event filled with world premieres, special guests, interviews, and much more. For this occasion we have prepared a trailer of the upcoming Chapter 3 as well as a small surprise for y'all.
Stephen L. Russell joins Blood West's voice cast as the main character - the revenant gunslinger. You may know him as Garret from the Thief series, Corvo Attano from Dishonored, Nick Valentine from Fallout 4 or you might have heard his most recent performance from Starfield.
News From Chapter 3
In our last announcement, we gave you a little teaser of what you can expect in the third chapter. Today's trailer has shown a lot, so let’s break it down together and shed a bit more light on secrets that the newest chapter holds. As you will travel through the mountains with your new undead buddy, you will stumble upon not only old railway tracks, desolated towns and not-so inviting circus tents, but also upon a lot of unsavory types looking to make your unlife more miserable.
One such fellow is the Defiler, a scrawny looking type that has a bit of a headache - why do you ask? He has a bat-like creature living rent free in his noggin. Said hellish tenant will forcefully evict itself if its “house” is disturbed - just make sure it won’t find living space in your head when it does so.
Another foe that you will encounter will be the Hellbear - half-human, half-bear abomination. This monstrosity has both the head of a bear and a human, and whichever you will damage it will affect the monster's behavior, disabling offensive capabilities associated with said head.
How to deal with these varmints? With the help of a new and reworked skill system. Now you will be able to fan the hammer on your revolver or go berserk on your foes. Besides these and other new awesome skills, we will be rebalancing old perks and making some of them multilayered.
One more secret to uncover
To end this news update we would like to tease you with some pretty artwork. What is it for? Hell, soon you will find out !
Stay safe, Partners Enjoy the upcoming show at Realms Deep
New & Upcoming Games
Hyperstrangers!
Dreamhack Beyond is right around the corner, Dudes, and you guessed it - we are in it! However, this bit of news isn’t just about that. While you are keeping up with all news related to Blood West, we would like to showcase other things we have been cooking for your gaming pleasure!
But, but, but... before these beauties will be ready to be injected into your veins, you gotta follow and wishlist. It makes the algorithm gods happy and jolts our developers’ hearts with joyful exuberance - whatever that means.
CosmoPirates
Space, the final frontier, a place devoid of the tight-ass bureaucracy. A place where a man can cruise in their Fiat 126p, lick batteries, and be a self-made cosmonaut! Unless you get raided by pirates, poisoned by a hot-dog from an unlicensed food-shuttle or scammed by Kovalsky at the spaceship dealer.
CosmoPirates takes card battling, deck building to the final frontier of cartoonish comedy. Pimp-out your ride, gather your crew, and take out the cringeworthy overlord. Be wary tho, for there always must be a Cringe lord - and on your journey you might just become one.
There are some things that simply go great together although you wouldn’t think so: potatoes and pizza, mayo and ketchup or Zombies and Golf! That’s right! There is nothing more riveting than trying to land a perfect birdie with a horde of the ravenous undead breathing down your neck.
In NecroGolf, an arcade golf simulator with RPG elements and zombies, you can put your precision golfing to the test. NecroGolf releases in less than a month, on September 15th, so make sure to wishlist it, grab your clubs and get in your golf cart, for in this zombie apocalypse, there is only golf.
If you are in for even more Hyperstrangeness, then embark in 77p egg: Eggwife on a quest whose crude, gory, toilet-humor can only be rivaled by games such as Postal 2, Duke 3D, or Goat Simulator.Master your bodily functions to perform such feats as poop-jumping and employ a wide range of "UK-Legal'' weapons such as the Applicator, Crossbowner and Stigmatic 77,000!
Does this masterpiece have a story? Yes, and a relatable one at that. Building a stable relationship isn’t that easy and our protagonist will need your help on his quest to find a new wife!
Let’s step down from the joyful sensory overload of the above mentioned games to something a little bit different. Something less strange and definitely more hyper.
In Empty Shell, a top-down roguelite survival horror, you will get thrown into a secret facility on a Japanese island. Having signed a contract which stated only one condition “recover the designated target”, you will soon learn why it is so important to read the fine print.
During each run, you will try to get the “volunteer” through the facility while dealing with limited visibility, dwindling supplies and whatever is out there, stalking and hunting you throughout the randomized maze of tight-corridors.
If you are peckish and looking for something more crunchy to stimulate your strategic mind, then look no further than Spirit of Liberty, a hardcore, turn-based, historically accurate strategy game set in WWII.
Master the intricacies of the game’s systems to keep your units supplied and armed with the best equipment and dismantle enemy forces through combined-arms tactics and help from your cabinet of generals.
As tradition commands, we have saved the best for the dessert! Hope you're still hungry for here comes our most ambitious in-house project so far.
Hordes of Hunger is a fast-paced action arena slasher with roguelite elements set in the dark fantasy setting of Ismer. A land engulfed by the living hunger, the cosmic horror known only as the Beast. You are the unlucky one still living inside the nightmare and the only way out is through it.
We know you’re eagerly looking forward to our full release coming December 5th, 2023. So are we! To sweeten the waitin’ game, we’ve prepared some sneak peaks of what comes after yet another summoning of your infamous outlaw in Blood West: Chapter 3!
If you’ve yet to play our Wild West game, the current Steam Stealth Fest might be a great excuse to pick up Blood West for 25% OFF... to catch up with all the menaces haunting Barren Lands and the Swamps. And prep yourself to head to the Mountains. How dangerous could they be?
What comes in Chapter 3
If you’re a greenhorn, beware as there’re spoilers ahead! As you remember, our next stop will be the Mountains. They’re covered with dark forest, hiding loads of new varmints and secrets, where with each step our desperado can stumble upon a swarm of glowing-red spirits. Apart from the omnipresent trees and branches, a whoppin’’ rift can be spotted, with even more enemies awaitin’ anyone daring to enter it. And once you do, the air can get a bit more… demonic. A worn-out railway sprawling across the location is not to be missed, one can only wonder where it might lead. Both seem quite fitting to the mountain setting unlike a circus that can be spotted in the distance. Its presence itself has a mysterious aura, as what’s even going on here. All this and more unravels before your eyes as you arrive with your newfound companion, in quite unlucky circumstances – this new level brings quite a few fresh additions to your favorite bloody lore. Being the final episode, we’ll draw a conclusion to the story of your well known dudes and dudettes, what the future holds for them is up to you, Gunslingers!
Don’t be buffaloed by a dark night in the desolate woods giving you peaceful vibes, as there’s plenty of varmints rumbling around. Same as Chapter 2 did, another installment introduces a new variety of monsters! We’re keeping most of them as a surprise, but with the promised sneak-peak comes an introduction to the Demon! The skittering sound of the steps of its stilts-like legs are bloodcurdling to anyone nearby.
It dwells in places often shrouded in dark vapors that are detrimental to the health of the living beings. It’s known for tirelessly stalking its prey, and, in spite of its size, it cuts dirt devilishly fast. We don’t have any evidence that this slightly hunched monstrosity is an inhabitant of Hell, but we can assure you it can be hella tricky to defeat as it can discharge devastatin’ ranged attacks. Just look at these four upper limbs! Beware as in melee fight they’re capable of rippin’ you to flinders. During the fight, the Demon also takes advantage of the vapors that tend to surround its lairs.
Even tho’ we throw you into the deep end with all this new spawn of monsters, you won’t go around unprepared as you’ll have plenty of chances to get some new barking irons, legendary weapons included. No matter if you’re more of a gunslinger or an archer, we have you covered with fire-new weaponry.
Get ready for Sentence, whose previous owner was a self-proclaimed judge, traveling through different villages looking for those who are dodging the law. Each blow meant yet another judgment executed. Once equipped it can’t be taken-off and for each slain foe you will recover a bit of health.
Moreover you may find Spite, a unique bow covered in thorns and spikes. It does not require ammunition as it draws blood from the player and forms it into arrows - so you have to be sure not to overdraw the string. Arrows shot with it defy laws of physics, which makes them hellishly accurate. Furthermore, as you’re struggling to hold it with all its stingy surface, you could swear you can hear a faint chuckle from within.
And here is the kicker, both of these weapons interact with a new phenomenon found in Chapter 3 - the hell vapors. Once within their reach these weapons unlock new powers. For the Sentence, almost each shot becomes a critical shot, while Spite no longer damages you when used.
All this and more comes to all of you in less than five months, till then Good fortune, partners!
