Bloody Hell Hotel

Blacksmithing

Greetings, fellow Vampires!

In today's update, we're going to talk about one of the main systems in the game. In Bloody Hell Hotel, you'll get to make your own weapons from scratch and take them for a spin in the procedurally generated, monster-infested dungeons to gather resources for your hotel upgrades. Since the announcement, we've increased the scope of the system quite a bit. Here's a little sneak peek of what awaits you.

Your blacksmithing workshop is conveniently tucked away in the caves beneath the hotel. It's a pretty cozy place, especially after you've put some work into renovating it (there are plenty of upgrades to unlock).

The process begins with smelting ores into ingots. You can buy ores in the nearby village or find them in the dungeons. Some ores are incredibly rare and mysterious, hidden in the deepest parts of the dungeons. Getting your hands on them won't be easy, as these areas are crawling with dangerous foes. Here's our current line-up:

  • Copper Ore: Ideal for beginners, offering basic durability and sharpness, but limited in combat effectiveness.
  • Tin Ore: A reliable choice, with improved durability and a sharper edge, suitable for standard combat needs.
  • Iron Ore: Offers a longer-lasting sharp edge than iron, making it a solid choice for more durable weapons.
  • Gold Ore: While not the strongest for combat, gold ore adds a touch of luxury and significantly increases a weapon’s value. Ideal for ornamental weapons or enhancing other ores to create visually stunning and more valuable blades.
  • Eclipse Iron Ore: A balanced metal for both durability and magical enhancement, perfect for versatile and enchanted weapons.
  • Shadowstone Ore: Ideal for stealth-focused weapons, allowing for blades that excel in sneak attacks and subtle magic.
  • Fiery Vein Ore: This fiery ore allows for crafting weapons imbued with fire enchantments, enhancing their damage and special attack capabilities with searing effects.
  • Frostvein Ore: Adds frost effects to weapons, enhancing their durability, special attacks, and compatibility with ice enchantments.
  • Blood Ember Ore: Infused with vampiric magic, it's ideal for crafting weapons that drain life from enemies, combining strength with dark enchantments.
  • Soulgem Ore: Rare and powerful, this ore enables the creation of weapons that can trap the souls of defeated enemies, enhancing their abilities and making them fearsome in battle.
  • Black Diamond: The rarest and most formidable mineral, perfect for forging near-indestructible weapons that excel in damage and harness dark magic enchantments.

Smelting ores in Bloody Hell Hotel isn't as simple as pushing a button—this is a simulation game, after all. You'll get the chance to mix ores together to create unique metals with different properties. This process requires not just experimentation but also careful management of the furnace's temperature.

* A big thank you to @Brock Stones in the comments below who pointed up an oversight on our part: Iron is a stronger metal than Tin. The descriptions and the order of the list has now been corrected. It's thanks to the community like this we're able to make a better game.

Now that you've smelted a handful of ores into various ingots, it's time to choose your weapon's design from the blueprint desk.

Blueprints, unlocked as the game progresses, let you craft increasingly superior blades, including daggers, short swords, and long swords. The choice of metal is yours. A blueprint allows you to turn ingots into a billet, but that's just the start. Crafting it into a finished weapon demands careful planning, skill, and strategic thinking. You'll need to manage the forge, work the anvil, perform quenching and sharpening, and choose the guard, handle, and pommel. Each step affects various parameters of the blade.

Every interactive component in the system, including anvil, bellows, grindstone, and quenching tank, can be upgraded – and the forge is no exception.

Upgrading the forge unlocks the use of new fuels and improves temperature control.

There are multiple kinds of fuel that you'll be able to use in the forge. Each type of fuel has unique properties affecting how different metals heat up. For instance, charcoal heats up quickly but burns out fast. It’s ideal for simple metals like copper and iron but less effective for the advanced metals you'll unlock later in the game. Our current fuel lineup includes:

  • Charcoal - A basic fuel that heats up quickly but burns out fast, great for simple metals but less effective for more complex ones.
  • Coal - More durable than charcoal, it provides a steady heat, suitable for a wider range of metals, balancing longevity with efficiency.
  • Eclipse Coal - A mystical coal that lasts longer and heats metals more evenly, ideal for intermediate metalworking.
  • Dreamsmoke Coal - Infused with enigmatic properties, it heats metals faster and is perfect for advanced metals.
  • Soulspark Coal - Rare and powerful, this coal supercharges the forge, heating the toughest metals efficiently with a spark of ancient magic.
  • Inferno Coal - The ultimate fuel, harnessing hellfire itself, it heats any metal to perfection and sustains incredibly high temperatures, embodying the pinnacle of vampiric forging power.

As you upgrade your forge, controlling the temperature will become easier, particularly with more advanced fuels and metals. Achieving even heat distribution across the blade when heating the billet is key.

The bellows in our blacksmithing system play a crucial role in the art of weapon forging. With multiple upgrade options, they allow for precise control over how quickly the billet heats in the forge. The bellows enable you to adjust the heating speed of individual billet segments in real time, which is essential for the anvil work that follows. Here are just a few of available upgrades:

Each upgrade varies in air consumption. If the air supply is fully depleted, you'll face a cooldown period while the air replenishes in the bellows bag. It's best to avoid reaching this cooldown, as it temporarily stops you from controlling the heat distribution across the billet segments.

Each upgrade of the bellows comes with multiple nozzles, adding an extra layer of sophistication. These nozzles, with their varying air consumption, enable precise heating of specific billet sections or broader areas as needed. Some even come with a cooling function, cleverly designed to slow down the temperature rise in targeted parts of the billet.

*(sped up footage)

This detailed control is crucial for even heat distribution, preparing you perfectly for the next key step: shaping the uniformly heated billet on the anvil.

Anvil work is a crucial step in forging a blade. After heating the billet in the forge, it often emerges with various deformations. This is where the anvil comes into play. You'll need to meticulously inspect the misshapen billet and skillfully reshape it on the anvil using a hammer. There are two key modes of operation on the anvil:

*(sped up footage)

This stage is all about correcting bends and other deformations. It’s a delicate balance - each hammer strike, regardless of its strength, uses up some of the heat in the billet, reducing its malleability. If you're too gentle and repeatedly hit the same spot lightly, that area may become too cold, making further shaping difficult and risking damage to the blade. Conversely, striking too hard could also damage a segment that needed a lighter touch for realignment.

*(sped up footage)

Refinement: In this phase, you'll lightly tap the billet to give it more definition and harden it. Each tap still draws a small amount of heat from the billet. A mini-game adds an extra layer of challenge, especially for more advanced blueprints.

When you begin the game, you'll start with just a basic hammer. As you progress, you'll unlock a variety of more advanced hammers, each uniquely suited for shaping increasingly uncommon metals. These hammers vary significantly in their attributes: they consume differing amounts of heat depending on the chosen metal, cause varying degrees of damage if the billet is struck incorrectly, and some excel in alignment while others are better suited for refinement. Below is our current lineup:

Once the billet has been meticulously shaped and refined on the anvil, the next crucial step is quenching. Initially, your workshop will be equipped with a basic quenching barrel filled with water, essential for cooling the billet and hardening the metal.

As you progress in the game, you’ll unlock a variety of quenching tanks filled with different oils and special liquids. These advanced quenching options not only cool and harden the metal but also allow you to imbue the billet with unique perks, tailoring the final properties of your blade to suit various combat styles and preferences. This step adds another layer of depth and strategy to the weapon crafting process.

Almost at the finish line! After quenching the billet, the next step is to bring it to the grindstone for sharpening. This stage requires a steady hand and careful attention: you must continuously spin the wheel while evenly pressing each side of the blade against it. But beware, the friction from sharpening can cause the wheel to overheat, potentially limiting the maximum sharpness your blade can achieve. This delicate process demands both skill and patience.

Moreover, different metals have varying susceptibilities to friction damage, necessitating upgrades to your grindstone - yes, everything has plenty of upgrades :)

While this is not a complete overview of the blacksmithing system, it gives you a taste of what we're cooking up in our game forge. More updates are on the way, so keep your eyes peeled. We realize you're eager to dive in and are anxiously awaiting a release date. We're itching to announce the release window, but we're not quite there yet. We're trying to make a very special game, and making something special really does take time. Your patience means a lot to us as we're trying to make the game bloody awesome. Stay tuned for more updates (we'll try to post updates more often).

Fangs

Greetings, fellow Vampires!

In today's Halloween update, let's sink our teeth into the blood-sucking mechanic & fang customization. Since we announced the game, we've been revamping (pun intended :)) numerous game mechanics - one of them is blood extraction!

Gone are the days of simply pressing a button to get your nightly nourishment. Now, you've got to master the art of drawing out just the right amount of blood without letting your victim kick the bucket too soon. Drinking blood from a dead victim will slap you with some nasty debuffs. And watch out for those feisty victims! They'll put up a fight, and if they wriggle free, they won't hesitate to tip off the Vampire Hunters. The challenge ramps up based on who you're feasting on. For instance, those high-brow snobs and royalty? They've got extra health and tend to struggle harder to free themselves. But fret not! With the new fang customization, you can tailor your bite for every occasion!

You can customize both lower and upper fangs as you please to make blood extraction easier by visiting your local dentist at the Vampiric Council.

These are your starter set, the trusty original fangs every vampire begins their Bloody Hell Hotel journey with.

These specialized fangs do more than just quench your immediate thirst. After a feed, they allow you to store a portion of the extracted blood in a handy potion bottle for future use. Whether you aim to restore your vampiric powers later or sell this precious bottled elixir to the Vampiric Council for a pretty penny, these fangs ensure you're always prepared.

Elevate your blood conservation game with these enhanced fangs. Meticulously crafted for optimal extraction, they allow you to bottle even larger quantities of blood from your victims. Most importantly, these fangs allow you to use the stored blood in alchemical mixtures. Every modern vampire's essential accessory.

These cleverly designed fangs are equipped to inject a soothing agent into your prey, diminishing their resistance and urge to flee. For more robust victims, however, this might not be enough to fully pacify them. The result is still a much smoother extraction experience.

Taking the art of sedation to unparalleled heights, these advanced fangs deliver a potent blend of agents. Their heightened potency ensures that even the toughest and most resilient guests are not only calmed but also momentarily dazed. This allows for extended feeding sessions with minimal risk of interruption.

A vampire's equivalent to a fine dining utensil! These golden fangs are expertly honed to allow for a generous blood flow without causing significant harm. They're the perfect balance between feeding efficiency and ensuring your victim's continued heartbeat.

Ever wanted a guarantee that your dinner won't pass out too soon? These upgraded fangs ensure that your victim stays alive for the whole meal, allowing you to take your time and extract every last drop without any unexpected 'goodbyes' (and debuffs). Complete control from start to finish!

These are your standard, everyday lower fangs. They might not boast any special abilities, but they're sturdy, reliable, and perfect for any vampire just starting their bloodsucking journey in Bloody Hell Hotel. Sometimes, basic is all you need!

Slightly longer than your basic set, these fangs provide a better grip on your victim, ensuring not a single drop of blood goes to waste. More grip, more sip!

With their decorative design, these fangs aren't just pretty to look at. They let you sample the quality of blood without consuming it. Notice any sneaky debuffs? If the flavor doesn't suit your palate, you can always skip the drink and let your victim enjoy an eternal nap.

Boasting a jagged and intimidating appearance, these fangs aren't winning any beauty contests. However, their multiple sharp edges ensure a strong grip on your prey. Once bitten, escape becomes nearly impossible for the strongest and most resilient victims. It comes at a cost though - they cause more damage than other fangs.

Spiral-patterned and utterly entrancing, the Hypnotic Fangs are more than just a fashion statement. With just one bite, they induce a temporary trance in the victim, causing a momentary delay in their urge to escape. This gives you a crucial head-start during the extraction, allowing for an initial uninterrupted drink.

These fangs introduce a paralyzing agent into the victim's blood, ensuring a completely immobilized feast. However, there's a catch: that paralyzing agent can be a tad too effective, risking a sudden heart stoppage in your victim. Always be on your toes and ready to pull back, unless you fancy some unplanned debuffs with your dinner! This unique concoction of blood can't be bottled or bartered using the Conserving Fangs;

These fangs act as nature's finest filter, ensuring you only get the crème de la crème of blood. Gone are the days of pesky debuffs from those overindulgent guests. Cheers to pure, untainted sustenance!

If you have ideas for specific fang upgrades, list them down below!

Bats

Greetings, fellow Vampires!

We’ve been hard at work behind the scenes, expanding the game based on the amazing feedback from all of you. We’re especially thrilled about adding a new alchemy system. Suggested by @squiggles on our Discord, it’s something we hadn’t planned initially but are super excited to include in the game!

In other news, we’re eager to share a new feature with you all! As a vampire, you won’t just be choosing your class, but also your bat species for transformation. Transforming into a bat will allow you to quickly navigate between key locations (hotel, blacksmith, farm, kitchen, dungeons, etc.) as well as escape dangerous encounters. Every bat species will have a special ability though, adding another layer to the gameplay.

1. Snowfluff's unmatched speed makes zipping around the hotel a breeze, bringing a whirlwind of frosty white to every corner of the shadowy halls. Whether you're in a hurry to oversee your mischievous guests or tending to your underground farm, this cute critter will get you there in a flutter of a wing. However, Snowfluff’s swift and delicate nature makes it more susceptible to damage, so it’s wise to avoid areas where enemies linger.

2. Meet Cuddlewing, the embodiment of flying charm and cuteness! With its tiny wings and unmatched charisma, Cuddlewing manages to flutter around even the most distinguished guests without causing a single gaze of distress. This adorable little creature is perfect for discreetly hovering over the elites, ensuring your vampire tasks remain undisturbed and unnoticed by the observant eyes of Snobs and Royalty, who particularly dislike the sight of bats. His small wings don't make him the fastest bat around, though.

3. When you turn into Hellswooper, you give off a scary vibe that makes enemies think twice about chasing you. This means you might get away from danger fast! Plus, Hellswooper can attack from a distance, letting you stay safe while dealing with threats. Such attacks deplete your blood meter, so they should be used with caution. His demonic appearance can be quite unsettling to the hotel guests, so it's best to utilize his skills away from the eyes of the patrons.

4. Armed with tiny vampiric fangs, Fangsnuggle possesses the unique ability to draw small amounts of blood from enemies, offering you an advantage in your dungeon explorations. However, each bite is a risky dance; enemies will attempt to repel Fangsnuggle’s advances, and there’s a chance he might take some damage. So, use his biting prowess with strategic finesse!

5. Twinklefly’s a real light in the dark! With his twinkling wings and large ears, he can echolocate hidden treasures and detect sneaky traps in dungeons, letting you avoid unwanted surprises and find those secret goodies that might just slip by unnoticed. Ideal for the treasure-hunting, dungeon-exploring enthusiast! But be cautious! Twinklefly’s sparkling light makes him a beacon in the dark, potentially attracting more attention from foes lurking in the shadows.

  • You can see behind-the-scenes screenshots of the making of these characters (and other cool stuff) on our Discord server. But that's not all - you can also contribute ideas. If your idea ends up being used in the game, you'll receive an in-game credit and a copy of the game when it launches.

Vampire Hunters

Greetings, fellow Vampires!

The time has come to introduce you to the deadliest enemies in the game: Vampire Hunters!

They come from the Hunter Guild, an esteemed order that has stood the test of centuries. Passed down through generations, their mission is to cleanse the world of vampires and put an end to their nocturnal shenanigans.

In essence, Vampire Hunters are linked to the game's suspicion meter. Here's the deal: the more innocent blood you spill in the presence of witnesses, the higher their suspicions soar. Once you hit that danger zone, they'll be hot on your undead trail faster than a bat hell-bent on escape! At first, they may visit your hotel in disguise, posing as regular guests, just to carry out their investigation. The higher your suspicion meter rises, the greater the chance that the guest you are about to feed on is, in fact, a Vampire Hunter, prepared to unleash their full force against you! Fortunately, you don't have to rely on guesswork here, as there are multiple ways to uncover secrets of your guests (see the Guest Traits update). Once they've confirmed your true identity, prepare for all hell to break loose. So, if you'd rather avoid encounters with the deadliest enemies in the game, it's best to keep your vampiric exploits unnoticed by the unsuspecting guests of your hotel.

How powerful are Vampire Hunters? Well...we've cranked up the challenge dial to the max, transforming them into a nearly insurmountable force. More often than not, the optimal strategy is to flee! Or... soar away as a bat! After all, getting yourself killed will inevitably result in a long recovery within the confines of your coffin. You might want to avoid that, as it will inevitably lead to the hotel falling into disarray, with neglected customers, negative reviews, and maybe even theft. However, if you have the audacity to face Vampire Hunters head-on, a special reward might await you, not to mention the respect of the esteemed Vampiric Council.

As your vampiric powers grow in strength, so do the hunters in might. They come in four types, each deadlier than the last. Here's what awaits you as you progress through the game:

The Silentio ("silent") are the type of Vampire Hunters feared for their stealth and lethal precision. Masters of disguise, they seamlessly blend into the shadows, becoming one with the night itself. Clad in darkness, their weapon of choice is a dagger, honed to perfection, capable of delivering swift death both in close quarters combat and when hurled through the air with lethal accuracy. Vampires tremble at the mere thought of facing this enigmatic group, for they know that once the Venator Noctis is on their trail, their fate is sealed in the grip of their relentless pursuit.

The Mortiferi ("deadly ones") are the second upgrade of Vampire Hunters. They are are skilled in the art of destruction, wielding both explosives and blades with deadly precision. Their arsenal consists of small bombs that can disorient, poison, and incapacitate their undead adversaries, complemented by their expertise in close-quarters combat. With a calculated blend of explosive power and razor-sharp blades, the Mortiferi strike fear into the hearts of vampires, leaving a path of devastation in their wake.

The Divinum ("divine") are a breed of Vampire Hunters veiled in mystery. Possessing mystical abilities that defy explanation, they harness these magical gifts to devastating effect against their immortal foes. The origin of their otherworldly powers remains shrouded in speculation, whispered among legends of a symbiotic connection with their prey from the past.

The Invictus ("unconquered") are the ultimate Vampire Hunters. Covered in impenetrable armor, they are a force to be reckoned with. Their expertise in both melee and ranged combat is unrivaled. Not only do they possess unparalleled combat skills, but they also boast an impressive resistance to the magic wielded by vampires, making them immune to the enchantments and spells that would hinder lesser hunters. If you see one, run! Unless...you like rare loot & achievements.

  • You can see behind-the-scenes screenshots of the making of these characters (and other cool stuff) on our Discord server. But that's not all - you can also contribute ideas. If your idea ends up being used in the game, you'll receive an in-game credit and a copy of the game when it launches.

Pets

Greetings, fellow Vampires!

The addition of pets (or familiars) has been one of the most popular requests on our Discord server. You made us realize that it's a must-have feature! There's still much work to be done, but we're excited to share with you a little bit about what we've been working on.

Familiars are loyal companions to Vampires and can assist you with small tasks. As you bond with your familiar, they will level up and become more adept at their unique skillsets. Choose your familiar wisely as you can only have one at a time. You can name and customize your familiar. Familiars do not require much attention, but most of them need to be fed and played with. Neglecting them for too long may make them moody and unwilling to collaborate. Incorporating a familiar into your playstyle is optional though - you don't have to have one.

Here's our current line-up:

Mosquitoes might not be the first creature that comes to mind when thinking of familiars, but they're a Vampire's best blood-sucking buddy! They are tiny and stealthy, making them the perfect spy for your vampiric needs. With a mosquito familiar, you can send them to sample the blood of hotel guests and report back with valuable information about the blood's quality and the state of your prey (e.g. if they're intoxicated or anxious). A well-trained mosquito can even detect a vampire hunter in disguise, potentially saving you from a dangerous encounter.

Cats make the purrrrfect familiars! Not only do they keep pesky rodents away from your hotel, but they do it with style and grace. No more need for expensive traps and bait that can scare away guests. And let's not forget the added bonus of fresh, tasty rodent meat as a cooking ingredient (only well-trained cats can retrieve meat from their prey). Times may be tough, but with a trusty cat by your side, your pantry will never be empty.

Dogs are Vampire's best friend! They make the perfect familiars for a number of reasons. For one, they're fiercely loyal and will protect your hotel storage room from thieving bandits. Plus, a well-trained dog can keep watch over you while you sleep, ensuring that you and your belongings are safe after a tough battle in the dungeons.

Despite their small size, teacup pigs make for an excellent familiar among Vampires. Their cute and cuddly appearance can help put hotel guests at ease if they happen to witness something they weren't meant to see. They're like a magical "look at the cute piggy" button that diverts attention away from any vampire-related shenanigans. Guests who like pets are guaranteed to become return customers...if you let them leave the first time, of course. In addition, teacup pigs can be trained to alert you of any potential dangers in the vicinity.

Spiders are the ultimate stealthy companions for a Vampire. They're small, agile, and can assist in pickpocketing and other covert activities. When they're well-trained, their venomous bite can be used to weaken or incapacitate your prey before moving in for the final kill.

Possessed by a mysterious force, dolls are capable of things that are beyond the grasp of mortals. They can help you read minds and discover secrets of hotel guests. This information can be used to provide excellent customer service or exploit the guest's weaknesses when targeting them as prey. Similar to a battery, dolls can store vampiric energy which can be recharged over time and used when needed. However, one downside to owning a doll as a familiar is that they can be quite creepy and make your patrons uncomfortable, potentially leading to increased vigilance. On the other hand, dolls are low maintenance and do not require food, water, or regular care and attention.

We'd like to implement many more familiars into Bloody Hell Hotel. It might be too time-consuming to add more before the launch, but we're planning on expanding our line-up after the launch, as a large content update. We have many wacky ideas that we're excited about, but we'd love to hear yours as well! What familiars would you like to see in Bloody Hell Hotel? Also, which one do you like the most so far?

Last but not least, a big shoutout to JtheStray who was the first to suggest the idea of adding familiars to the game on our Discord. Your name shall be forever immortalized in the game's credit roll & a copy of the game will be sent to you when the game launches.

Broom

Greetings, fellow Vampires!

We're making progress towards our mission of making Bloody Hell Hotel BLOODY AWESOME. We've increased the scope of the game significantly since the announcement. The upcoming updates will cover all the new features we're adding to BHH. In the meantime...let's talk BROOM.

On the day we announced BHH, the broom became a meme on our Discord server (shoutout to @Dimentional Dining). The broom reaction emoji quickly became a thing (we use it...A LOT), and thus, a trend was born! The broom is now the official mascot of the game - as ridiculous as it may sound to mortals, we, the vampires, take the broom very seriously and wanted to give it a BLOODY AWESOME treatment as well. That can only mean one thing: broom customization!

As you become more adept at using the broom, you'll unlock upgrades that will increase its cleaning speed, radius, reach, as well as allow it to fly, then fly faster, further, and clean automatically for longer periods of time while you can focus on other activities. Maybe we should add more weapon-like upgrades? Let us know what you think. Something has to keep the Vampire Hunters at bay, why not...the broom?

Here are a few examples of what your broom may look like (all engines & attachments are compatible with one another, you can switch them at any time).

One thing our Discord community made us realize is that customization should be the core of this game. For now, the broom upgrades are gameplay oriented. We're also looking into customization that is purely cosmetic. Let us know what you think - we're about to introduce a lot more customization to the game (e.g. the coffin, the hotel sign, as well as other unannounced surprises). Do you want to see most customization tied to the gameplay or should it be purely cosmetic?

While not everything we're working on can be immediately shown, here's a sneak peek of just a small portion of the new props our talented team has come up with:

Remember that bat from the trailer? Here's what it actually looks like. Should we allow the bat customization? We've received a number of requests for that, too.

  • Discord- Your ideas & feedback can shape the future of this game. We continue to implement features suggested by our members. If your idea makes it into the game, you'll be given a credit & a copy when it launches.
  • Twitter- Best way to stay in touch & keep an eye on the development & the behind the scenes.

Guest Traits

Greetings, fellow Vampires,

Today, we'll talk about food...I mean, guests!

In Bloody Hell Hotel, every guest is unique and can be described by traits, likes & dislikes, and secrets:

  1. TRAITS

Traits affect the general behavior of guests in the hotel. Traits are linked to the guest's appearance, so it's easy to tell who is who. We currently have 7 traits, but will likely add a few more.
  2. LIKES / DISLIKES

Some guests like rooms with a fully stocked mini-bar. Others want extra towels. Each guest has a unique combination of likes and dislikes, and your ability to meet your customers' expectations will affect their generosity (tips) and reviews of your hotel. Needless to say, you don't have to care about making your customers happy - after all, you're a blood-thirsty vampire! Letting your guests live is a choice, not a must.
  3. SECRETS

Every guest has at least one secret - something that is not immediately revealed to the player. For example, a guest can be a Vampire Hunter in disguise - deadly when attacked, but acting like an ordinary guest when unprovoked. Uncovering secrets is challenging, but not impossible. It most cases, it can be done either with the use of vampiric powers, special food ingredients (truth serum), or buying intel from the Vampiric Council (if your relationship with the Vampiric Council is good enough).

  • Unbothered by dirt and grime and won't complain if you don't clean
  • Likely to create messes of their own, which you'll have to tend to
  • Heavy drinking makes them deep sleepers and easy prey
  • Their blood quality is negatively affected by their poor hygiene and alcohol consumption
  • Guests of higher social status are bothered by their presence

  • Their anxious nature causes them to be on high alert at all times
  • Taking them by surprise requires an extra careful hand
  • Light sleepers who are easily awoken by noise, making sneaking into their rooms particularly challenging
  • Unlikely to leave the safety of their room unless absolutely necessary
  • High-quality blood that can turn rotten if in a state of panic (rotten blood curses the player with debuffs)
  • Can be lulled into a deep sleep with hypnosis or sedatives added to their food

  • They know what they want and they wanted it five minutes ago
  • If they have to wait too long, they won't hesitate to leave a negative review for your hotel
  • Willing to tip generously, but only when served in a timely manner
  • Their blood is of a decent quality, and if tips don't interest you, they make for easy prey

  • Penny pinchers that won't tip no matter how good your service is
  • If your prices aren't low enough, they'll complain
  • Will jump on any opportunity to save money: discounts, coupons, and the like
  • They're not poor – your pickpocketing skills will come in handy

  • Insomniacs are good customers, thanks in part to their calm and quiet demeanor
  • They take short naps during the day and wander the hotel at night
  • This makes it harder to sneak into guest rooms and perform other deeds undetected
  • Will notify the Vampire Hunters Guild if anything suspicious is witnessed – if they can outrun you that is
  • Can be put to sleep with hypnosis or sedatives

  • Snobs represent the elite of society
  • Snobby blood restores your vampiric powers and grants temporary perks
  • They expect the highest level of customer service
  • Snobs are wealthy, but they don't tip well – their suitcases are brimming with valuable items and can be picked, though
  • Positive reviews from Snobs are very valuable and can make a big difference for your business
  • Deciding whether to kill them for their valuable blood or let them live for a positive review is a difficult choice you will have to make

  • Royalty will only visit your hotel if it's received positive reviews from Snobs and other Royalty
  • They won't stay in regular rooms, so if you don't have luxurious suites ready for their arrival, they won't return anytime soon
  • Will not tolerate anything less than stellar customer service
  • Extremely generous if treated well – expect unreasonably high tips if you tend to their every whim
  • Royal blood is of the highest quality and can grant many perks
  • Royal blood can also be sold to the Vampiric Council at a premium price
  • The Vampire Hunters Guild keeps a close watch on Royalty
  • The disappearance of a Royal guest will be noticed and investigated by vampire hunters, the toughest enemy in the game

  • The game continues to evolve thanks to our active community on Discord. If you have any gameplay ideas, now is a good time to join. As a reminder, if your idea ends up being used in the game, you'll receive a copy of Bloody Hell Hotel when it launches and your name shall forever be immortalized in the game's credit roll. This month, a big shoutout goes to @lordofspades for coming up with the idea of guest secrets.

If you're looking for frequent behind-the-scenes (e.g. screenshots of props in development, voice acting tests, etc.), you'll find all of that on our Discord.

Stay tuned for our upcoming Halloween contest - to be announced on Oct. 24th!

Vampire Classes

Greetings, fellow Vampires,

Welcome to the first Bloody Hell Hotel Update! Before you sink your fangs into the meat of this update (classes), we'd like to go over commonly asked questions:

  • Can I contribute?
Yes. We invite the BHH community to contribute ideas and provide feedback. Ideas get sorted into categories and organized in a spreadsheet by our community managers, so we can refer to them at various stages of development. If your idea ends up being used in the game, you'll be featured in the credit roll and given a copy of the game when it launches. Three members have already done so. One of the ideas that was brought up happens to be the main focus of this update: the addition of Vampire Classes. If you're interested in getting involved, you can share your ideas on our Discord.
  • Is there a release window?
We know many of you can't wait to play the game & we're grateful to see so much enthusiasm. We also wanted to be upfront with you as to where we are in the development cycle (pre-Alpha). The quality bar for this project is as high as it gets - and quality takes time. We're committed to skipping Early Access and delivering a highly polished game on day 1. Therefore, we ask you to stay patient and possibly come along on this journey with us. There's a lot of exciting stuff coming up: regular updates, early previews, sneak peeks, AMA's with key team members, etc. This kind of game requires a lot of tweaking to get right and we won't compromise on quality to meet a self-imposed deadline.
  • When can I see actual gameplay?
We're aware that many of you want to see unedited & unaltered gameplay, just to get a better understanding of how the game plays. While Bloody Hell Hotel has been in development for nearly 19 months, it is simply too early to make an extended gameplay showcase. The game is much bigger than what the trailer shows. Some systems are either unfinished or not implemented yet, while others are subject to change. Multiple areas are missing. There's no UI yet, and hundreds of 3d assets are still being modeled and textured by our talented art team (led by an art director known for her work for Disney, Dreamworks, and Universal Studios). We're going to release unalerted & unedited gameplay footage with the developer's commentary when we feel it's ready. We also might have an open beta or a demo when the time comes (still TBD). Until then, we'll be posting regular updates on the development progress and sharing behind-the-scenes.
  • Is there going to be VR Support?
We've received many requests for VR support. There was no plan for it originally, but it quickly became clear to us that Bloody Hell Hotel would translate very well into a VR experience. We're putting it on our post-launch "to-do" list. VR support will be outsourced to a different studio that has a lot of experience in this area.
  • Is there going to be Full Controller Support?
We've received numerous requests for full controller support for the PC launch. We're now ready to confirm that there will be full controller support for PC on day 1.

The idea to introduce classes to BHH comes from our Discord community (the credit goes to @samplefrd3 specifically). We loved the idea, and so did the community. The game is no longer about one particular character. We're now taking an RPG-like approach: you'll be able to create your own character, choose one of the 6 classes, select gender, come up with a name for your Vampire, etc. In addition to visually distinct set of arms, each class will have their own unique skill tree. Most importantly, each class will offer a completely unique way of playing the game.

While we're still hard at work on implementing this big design change, we're excited to announce the 6 classes you'll be able to choose from:

Swift and adept, Darkstriders make their home in the shadows. These skulking vampires are masters of deception, manipulation, and subterfuge. Their dexterous forms make them feel comfortable in combat but also right at home in the kitchen, where they might be cooking the guests' their first – and possibly last – meal.

No one is quite sure what era or region Nekrocasters hail from – their origin remains a mystery. A relic from some unknown time, these mystical vampires are capable of supernatural powers unseen by modern eyes. The Nekrocaster’s terrifying form is devoid of humanity, and while it leaves them physically feeble and decrepit, their powerful magic carries them in combat and hotel management impeccably.

No vampire is as captivating as the Bloodcharmer. It's unclear how they do it, but Bloodcharmers have been known to persuade their victims to willingly donate some of their blood. Be it their natural charisma or some kind of dark magic, something about them just makes guests more generous. And those who bear witness to the Bloodcharmer's horrifying deeds? They continue their lives completely unphased as if entranced by a master hypnotist.

Named for their forceful feedings, Neckbreakers embrace the strength given to them by their vampiric blood. Those that give in to the animalistic power are capable of great physical feats, which makes them powerful warriors and perfect for blue-collar work like mining, forging, and smithing. Their natural strength is a great boon, but it leaves them with little interest in technology or chit-chatting with guests.

Capable of surviving the light of day, the Youngblood still remembers the taste of roasted pork and good wine. Clinging to clouded memories of their humanity, Youngbloods recall many human efficiencies, such as farming, technology, and small talk. Vampires of high society may turn up their noses at such frivolity, but even they long for the warmth of the sun's embrace.

Respected far and wide, the Primortal are vampire royalty, dating back further than any other vampire clan. Because of their high status within the Vampiric Council, the Primortal are granted special privileges. They could sit back and enjoy the easy life, but the aristocratic bloodline is not afraid to get their hands (and fangs) dirty. These powerful and cunning vampires know how to run castles – a hotel should be no problem.

You may have noticed the mention of the Vampiric Council - we'll explain its significance and how it affects gameplay in future updates.

Here's how we recorded music for the trailer with a 60-piece symphony orchestra. The soundtrack for the entire game will be recorded with the same orchestra and mixed by the recording engineer known for his work on such films as Inception, Pirates of the Caribbean, and The Dark Knight Rises.
