Hi everyone! The first Early Access update for BOID is live. Details:
New animations for base take overs, using abilities, and unit death
You now see health of selected units
Units now indicate low health - their light fades slightly
Nerfed the Scouts, now they have 10% less armor
Added hints during map loads
Fixed issues with Invite a Friend function
Lots of stability improvements
Improved pathfinding
Fixed bug when teleporter exit wouldn't work properly sometimes
Lots of small improvements
There's now a sound when you've found an opponent
We are reading everyone's feedback and taking it very seriously. One thing that didn't make it into today's update is Waypoints on Spawn. To assign waypoints to spawned units automatically. It might come in the next update and we do see it being a very important feature.
BOID right now runs in XNA, however Maks pulled off the impossible and ported his XNA-based engine to Unity. This is something loads of developers are trying to do, and looks like BOID will be amongst the first to pull it off.
It means that in the next week or so the game will get a massive engine update, improving stability on all fronts, and making Mac/Linux much more viable.
We will hold off integrating Steam stuff (like achievements) until the new engine update, so don't worry - it's coming!
If you happen to be at PAX South, stop by the tinyBuild booth to play some BOID!
Welcome to BOID Early Access
Hi everyone, and welcome to BOID Early Access!
We are launching for a very low entry price of $2.99 (and a temporary 15% discount), and as the game gets more features, the price will increase. The current plan is to boost it to $5.99 mid-development, and release at $9.99 later this year.
Over the weekend we'll be performing multiple stability tests, and a substantial gameplay update is planned for the coming Monday.
Please make sure to visit the forum and give us feedback, and we'll be here all day playing against people.
GL & HF!
BOID launching for $2.99 + press day on the 7th
Thanks everyone who participated in the beta test! As we near launch, some important things to note
Boid will launch for $2.99 on January 8th
Boid is a multiplayer-focused game, so we want as many people as possible to have the opportunity to play it. This is why we're initially going to launch it for a very low price point of $2.99.
In the visual above you can get an idea of when we'll increase the price. When the game gets deep Workshop integration, we will bump up the price to $5.99 - and the final launch will be a $9.99 price-point.
We believe this is a good incentive to reward early adopters - and that we're confident we can actually finish the game.
Press day on Wednesday, the 7th
Everyone who has a beta key will be able to play against the press, Youtubers, and Twitch streamers this Wednesday, January 7th.
Everyone in the beta gets the full game
Yes, everyone who got into the beta (well over 17,000 people) is getting the game for free.
This is going to be an exciting week

BOID Private Beta in Full Swing
Hi everyone and thank you for participating in the BOID Private Beta!
Servers & stability are doing great
The fantastic news is that all servers are holding up, and we couldn't find any game breaking bugs - aside from some launch issues. So if you're having trouble launching the game, please post your experience on the forums. It's usually related to XNA/.NET Frameworks.
Find opponents in the official group
If you're having trouble finding players, please join the official BOID Steam Group - and add other members as friends to invite into a game.
Next stage - exposure & updates
The game will launch to public Early Access next month, early January. This gives us time to work with the media and bring exposure to the game.
Keep an eye out for invites to press events for a chance to play against the press. We will need your help to make sure there are people to play against online.
Meanwhile all of your feedback has been read and discussed, with lots of fixes and incremental updates on their way.
