The state of Bombshell 1.3 and Console Versions

Hi Guys!

Thank you so much for all the great feedback we've gotten.
I want to update you all on the future of Bombshell, and what you can expect in the following months.

First of all, we've been continously collecting feedback, bugs and suggestions from you guys, and we've established a great list of things to improve. You can find the list of what's to come at the end of this post.

Secondly, the console versions of Bombshell.
We wanted to delay Bombshell on consoles, in order to pack as much content into those versions as possible. The next update for Bombshell will be a "Definitive" update, that includes everything we've been able to collect in terms of feedback. This is the version that will launch on consoles. But we will continue to support Bombshell, and if more great feedback, ideas and suggestions should arise, we'll dive right back into development, and supply further updates to you guys!

Below you'll find a list of new Features, Additions, Tweaks and Bugfixes in the upcoming 1.3 version of Bombshell:

Features and Tweaks:

Bombshell 1.1 & Shellshock DLC Released! Celebration Sale This Week!

Firstly, in celebration of Patch Day, we’re discounting Bombshell by 33% this week. For anybody who was on the fence about the game, we hope that makes your decision easier!

And thanks to those of you who supported us from day 1, we’ve put together this fantastic 1.1 update. To call it a “patch” would be doing it a disservice. We’ve scoured every critical review (good and bad), but more importantly, every user review, and we compiled a list of to-do’s that we agreed would improve the overall player experience.

A bunch of changes went into this update, and the team at Interceptor worked tirelessly to get it out in just a matter of weeks. A more complete list of changes can be found here.

While some journalists weren’t so kind to us, the user reviews on Steam were Mostly Positive from the start, and we think that’s representative of the game. It’s not the best game, but we feel it’s a pretty good game, especially for the reasonable price -- and it’s a game everyone at Interceptor and 3D Realms is proud of. And if you liked the game we shipped, we think you’re going to LOVE 1.1.

1.1 also includes FREE DLC, in the form of Shellshock Missions. This is an arcade/retro throwback mode that presents players with a series of challenges, like completing a level with only abilities, or on a time trial -- and lives completely separate from the campaign. You can select this mode from the Main Menu, the screenshot below will give you an idea for what you can expect.

Thanks for all your wonderful feedback, and please keep it coming. We’ve got other exciting projects in the works already, but we intend to continue to support Bombshell. If there’s anything you think we can do to improve the game, or any DLC content you’d be particularly excited to see, be sure to drop us a note on the forums!

Keep an eye on this thread the following weeks!

We <3 you guys for all the support!

Bombshell Patch 1.01 Released + Message from Fred

Hi Guys!

Fred from Interceptor here.

First of all, I want to thank all of you for buying Bombshell. We're extremely grateful for all the feedback and support. Running a small indie studio, trying to make big games is not always easy, but we remain committed to keep leveling-up as a team!

We've been going through every single review and comment about Bombshell we could find. What we’ve noticed is that users generally like the game, while career reviewers generally dislike the game. And within those two groups, there’s some really valid overlap in criticism that I think we definitely could have done better.

Where it went wrong and what we're doing about it!

Below is what we're going to be working on the next 4 weeks. We already have the first hotfix ready, which should auto-download for those of you who own the game right now.

Expectations: Some reviewers were expecting to be playing a “Diablo in space.” Ever since previewers started comparing us to some really great ARPG’s, we sort of ran with that comparison because of how flattering it was. But our RPG elements are super lightweight by comparison to most other ARPG’s, and so moving forward we’re going to work harder to set expectations more accurately. This is an action-shooter with weapon progression.

Difficulty. For 1.1 we're going to unlock Hard mode right from the beginning, while making the Normal mode slightly more forgiving. Hopefully this will allow more people to get past the first boss and experience the other 2/3'rds of the game! :slightly_smiling:

"Filler". We wanted to create huge environments, and massive worlds. What we ended up with instead were too few missions with too little variety, presented in a manner that ended up feeling too monotonous at times. It’s clear we have a fun little action game in here, but it’s bogged down by a lot of this unnecessary “filler.”

Boss Battles. They’re are either too hard, or too easy to exploit. In this hotfix, the Abomination has been tuned a bit to be more balanced and fair. Let us know what you think. And in 1.1 we're completely overhauling the bosses to be more more fun, and less frustrating in general.

One-Liners & Executions. In this hotfix, we've removed some of the more obnoxious one-liners, and we made executions happen less frequently. These things are supposed to feel fun/funny, special, or memorable when they happen. But when they happen too often, it’s just annoying.

Achievements and general bugs have now been fixed as well. Achievements that didn’t work previously, will unlock automatically when you load your profile (if you unlocked them during gameplay). The total changelist from the review copies up until this patch, has more than 200 bugs fixed and implemented. We're still doing our postmortem, and as soon as we have a detailed list of what we're going to do for 1.1, I'll update you guys in here.

Thank you for the support guys! This is the most ambitious title our small team has undertaken to date, and we’ve learned a LOT! Your kind messages and constructive critiques go a long way toward making Bombshell better, and we love you for it!

Bombshell General Troubleshooting

Here you can find some tips and tricks about general troubleshooting on Bombshell. If you experience any issues and none of the below solves your problem, please check out community or get in touch with our support at hello@3drealms.com.

Game Crashes and Performance

  • If you experience problems with your game crashing, please try out the following to see if this fixes your problem.

  • On Steam, try verify the integrity of your game cache. You can follow these steps from Valve.

  • Due to some known issues with SLI and Unreal Engine it may help turning off SLI support. This can be done by editing a configuration INI file in the game.

    1. Open \My Games\Bombshell\ShellGame\Config\ShellEngine.ini with a text editor (Notepad or similar).
    2. Change the value bDualGPUEnabled=True to bDualGPUEnabled=False.
    3. Save the INI file and restart Bombshell

  • Switch from DirectX 11 (DX11) to DirectX 9 (DX) mode from Settings->Visuals in the Bombshell Main Menu.

  • Disable Motion Blur

    1. Open \My Games\Bombshell\ShellGame\Config\ShellSystemSettings.ini with a text editor (Notepad or similar).
    2. Change the value MotionBlurSkinning=1 to MotionBlurSkinning=0.

  • Disable Anti Virus scanners before playing - we have seen problems with especially Avast Anti Virus that cause the Bombshell client to hang on start up.
