Ugh, summer. Vikings were not built for summer. Well... maybe Ziggy and Duke were. For the rest of them non-Jamaican, non-surfer Vikings, summer just goes against everything that is supposed to turn the inhabitants of the North in tough, gritty warmachines. Olaf of Bread is no big fan of summer either - he gets too crusty.
But there are plenty of good things that come with the sunny season, one of them being that we're dropping the price on Bossgard with 20% for the duration of the sale. If you've been following the game for a while or you've just heard about it, here's a small recap.
Bossgard is the party game that lets you play the Boss against your friends, an asymmetrical boss-battler for up to 6 players in online and local multiplayer.
There are currently 6 unique bosses, each moves, attacks and behaves differently, each with their own skill set. Giant bread, huge plungers, evil robots, you name it.
There are 10 unique Vikings, each built for an entirely different role. Deploy turrets, unleash pets, raise the dead, heal your friends and much, much more in a bid to defeat the Boss.
Currently there are 3 major game modes, Viking vs Boss, Viking vs Viking and the 3rd person singleplayer-only Survival mode, where you hunt monsters in search of the big end Boss.
Play in a group from a top view perspective or solo from a 3rd-person perspective.
All characters are customizable with armor sets, weapons, color schemes and more!
If you're looking to expand your party gaming library, Bossgard might be just the thing.

IT. IS. FRIDAAAAAAAAAY!
We're hosting a live stream today to celebrate the past few weeks and blow off some steam. Our Vikings are beaten and tired from all the senseless wars against toilet utensils and living fortresses, it's time we rewarded them with a day of casual skirmishes.
And it's also time we reward you people with some in-game items. We're dying to try out our fancy new way of giving out Bossgard stuff, we have entire shelves of spears, helmets, gold and even maps we'd like to give to our more loyal players.
So check this out - come play against us (or help us fight amongst ourselves) and the victors walk away with tangible game goodies. Cool?

Patch: Fixing the Hog
Hi there!
We received reports of faulty mechanized assault pigs and we had to do something about it. Upon closer inspection it became clear that the Warhog's Ragnarok-Class Reinforced Armor came under too much pressure from sustained fire and corrosive Poison arrows.
The Vikings seem to have developed a knack for landing Mighty Blows in the Warhog's armor weak points, especially where several moving parts would meet, like the joints and even the rotating autocannon.
Sustained damage during the first phase of the battle comprised the deployment of the phase II combat kit. We've also noticed severe damage to the Warhog's central processing unit.
Several hog-handlers, like
Papi
and
Penk
(to whom we give our thanks) have reported an inability to control the Warhog in its second stage. Luckily, the warmachine's emergency security protocols deployed successfully and Vikings were unable the damage the unit, leading to postponing the battle altogether.
Papi and Penk will receive 3000 Gold each for their honorable service. They should find a nice Gift Chest next time they login into Bossgard.
We appologize to all our hog handlers, the new models are now fully outfitted with new, state-of-the-art armor and central processors. In the name of the Evil Eye, you should have no problem tearing the Vikings apart. Proceed with the extermination of all Viking lifeforms and report any other issues you might encounter.

Update: Fixes, improvements, and news!

It’s been a great couple of weeks since Bossgard left Early Access! Glad to see some new faces in our community, we hope you’re here to stay!
So! We’re back with another update, this time a good ol’ fashioned bug bashing routine plus several quality-of-life improvements!
Here’s what’s up:
Added new camera angles for the 2v1, 3v1, 4v1 Boss Vs Vikings game lobby.
Updated the localization for French, Spanish and German
Modified how map voting works. Map voting is now based on a common map pool drawn from all the maps unlocked/owned by the players in the lobby. Previously the game only drew maps from the Host’s map pool.
Improved reassignment after controller disconnect
Bhaar-Boot no longer damages players behind him when rolling
Vikings can now be rotated in the Main Menu.
Tweaked Bot AI. AI characters now change targets as soon as their current target dies.
Changed the order in which players join slots in Viking vs Viking modes
Fixes:
Fixed fonts for Russian language
Fixed some totems becoming invulnerable after being killed
Fixed Bhaar-Boot sometimes remaining stuck on top of a minion
Fixed menu scaling for server list menu
Fixed bow strings getting glitchy in main menu
Fixed Magnus and Krampus gold skins not being displayed properly
We’re out of Gold!
Alas, the time to make merry is behind us and our anniversary Gold Skins are now off the table. Congratulations to all who got the chance to redeem these anniversary swag items. If you didn’t get your chance, no worries - there will be plenty of other opportunities. We’re certainly not out of reasons to celebrate - Bossgard is coming to the Nintendo Switch and Sony PS4 in July, so hang on tight!
This is our main focus at the moment, finishing up the Switch and Playstation 4 builds so we can stay on track with our schedule. Our target is early July, we'll announce the exact date in the next couple of weeks.

The whole pandemic situation has made us reconsider parts of our release schedule so we happily announce that we have decided to release the full version of Bossgard on Steam this Thor's Day (Thursday) - May 21st!
On May 21 Bossgard will be finally leaving Early Access! Celebrations will be of course in order and we have our fair share of awesome stuff we want to do, especially everybody’s favorite: giveaways!
We’ll be organizing Play-with-the-devs streams during which we’ll hang out with you guys, play some hardboiled rounds of Bossgard, discuss THE FUTURE and last but not least, giveaway cool prizes, including Bossgard keys to share with your friends.
If you’ve been with us so far, thank you very much, you’ve made the game a much more enjoyable experience.
If you’ve just found out about us - welcome! You’ve landed in the middle of the ultimate party boss-battler, so if your dreams include the desire of becoming a large and evil slice of bread - you’re in the right spot! What about the Switch and Playstation releases?
If the Steam release will come a bit early, the console releases have been pushed back a bit, we’re expecting to release in the first week of July, we’ll announce the exact date soon. Unfortunately, there are a lot of factors that are just out of our control and sometimes we resort to solutions we’re not too happy about - like delaying the console ports. But fear not! The Switch and Playstation 4 releases are coming and soon enough you’ll be able to smack your friends with a slice of bread on your favorite consoles!

Huge Content Update! Bossgard is preparing to leave Early Access!
Just a little while longer
We’re super happy to announce that Bossgard is getting close to the end of the Early Access program. At the moment we're hard at work cooking the upcoming Switch and PS4 ports, drawing up promo assets and making sure that everything is in place for the grand finale of Bossgard’s Early Access and the grand opening of Bossgard to the rest of the gamers out there.
Our big launch day will be the 28th of May and it will involve a lot of buzz, streaming, giveaways and discounts, so do make sure you tune in and tell your friends!
It’s been an amazing past year, we’ve learned more than we could’ve ever hoped for and your support and feedback have been critical to our development. To our Early Access players go our deepest thanks.
Bossgard on Nintendo Switch and PS4
Bossgard is coming to Nintendo Switch and PS4! All game versions will be almost identical, with some slight platform-specific differences:
The PS4 version max number of local players will be 4.
The Nintendo Switch version will allow up to 6 local players to play together using Joy Con™ controllers.
All versions will support cross-platform play.
Major Content Update
This new version of Bossgard will extend the roster of Vikings to a total of 10. Each of the new Vikings opens up new playstyles and combinations. We believe that more ways to bring down Bosses are always welcome.
Meet the new members of the crew:
Maksim
Maksim is the Viking heavy-hitter. He’s ready to take a punch and respond in kind. He is a tormented Russian Viking, haunted by the Cheeki Breeki, an ungodly spirit that empowers Maksim, allowing him to turn into a Boss-sized demonic giant.
Makism’s attacks involve a series of strong jabs followed by a swift kick. He’s also able to lob boulders at enemies that prove to be out of his fist’s range. He’s an ideal candidate for anybody looking to play the role of a sturdy, reliable Tank.
Brunhilde
She’s the German Bard-of-Bards, Midgard’s very own Valkyrie, handy with both the spear and the lute. Brunhilde is a ranged Viking specialized in throwing spears at her enemies. Besides her spear, Brunhilde boasts a proud shield which she keenly uses to absorb damage AND throw it back at her assailants to great effect.
Should push come to shove, Brunhilde is ready to drop traditional armament and start banging on her lute, sending deadly soundwaves against her foes. If you’d like to Tank but Melee combat isn’t your thing, Brunhilde is there to scratch that itch.
Duke
The one and only true dude, the one and only true bro - Duke is the slick American Viking who’ll pick his surfboard and his hair gel over battle axes any day of the week. He’s a Ranger that likes zooming across the battlefield on his trusty board, pincushioning his enemies with javelins.
When the vibe’s right, Duke is able to catch a wave and surf continuously, becoming virtually impossible to catch. If you’re all about mobility, Duke’s your guy.
Krampus
Krampus is… special. He’s not from around here, but he grew up in Midgard. Nobody understands his gibberish, but his enthusiasm and energy are unmatched. He’s mighty handy with the Greataxe and quite ingenious too. Because he’s short, he had to adapt. He relies on his grapple-hook-axe to close any gaps between him and his enemies. He can be proper pesky for mobile opponents.
He is also able to deploy a melee axe turret - the Shredder, allowing him to secure areas of the battlefield with ease. Krampus is above all a Melee Specialist, there to fill weaknesses in a team’s composition.
Ziggy
The green thumb of the crew, Ziggy’s all about keeping it cool and not breaking a sweat. His twin throwing axes keep his enemies at bay. His signature criss-cross boomerang throw clears foes over large areas. He’s also quite the gardener, being able to instantly grow giant mushrooms that create organic walls through which he and his teammates can fire projectiles - literal mushroom bunkers. Ziggy’s here to limit the Boss’ ability to maneuver, all of this from a safe distance. He’s the team’s Ranged Specialist.
New Boss!
Besides these colourful additions to the team we’re also deploying our deadliest Boss yet:
The Warhog is Ragnarok incarnate. A mechanical abomination designed to deal as much damage as possible, as quickly as possible.
He is a mobile Boss, able to walk across the battlefield. His melee attack is a double swipe with his massive sword - the Siegeblade.
He also boasts a ranged attack - his heavy autocannon, with which he can use to shower the Vikings with bullets. He is balanced and adaptable, with no obvious weaknesses. The Vikings will have to find windows of opportunity by exploiting his turn rate and melee attack speed. Both his attacks have windup times, giving time to dodge or close in on him.
He can heal himself by deploying repair stations, but be warned - they drop in on the battlefield in the form of bombs. The Warhog will have to make sure he is in range of these Repair Stations in order to benefit from them.
Warhog’s trump card is his Rocket Barrage Rage Attack, which allows him to fire his shoulder launcher, bombarding a large area of the battlefield with missiles.
The Warhog was designed as a straight-up badass Boss, less funny business, more firepower. You’ll be able to unlock the Warhog using Gold.

During our big launch week we'll be hosting special "Play With the Devs" streams and organizing giveaways, so make sure you tune in on launch day for an opportunity to win game keys and other goodies, like the anniversary limited-edition Gold Skin, usable on all Vikings and Bosses by those who play during the launch event!
Price Increase
We increased the price of the game to $19.99. This new price reflects all the work that's been done on the game since we’ve first launched the Early Access, including a lot of stuff that wasn’t initially part of the plan. With this current update we've brought the game's content to an almost final state. We've doubled the number of playable Vikings and added a new unique Boss. Our final pre-launch efforts will be focused on the console ports and preparing everything needed for the big day.

Depending on where you're from, chances are you've slain a few solid weeks of lockdown yourself. Us Sand Sailors have been working from home ourselves and the impact made by the sudden spike in the usual level of solitude has been surprisingly strong.
We miss going out and we've tried getting as much digital social contact as it is virtually possible. Bossgard has given us plenty of occasions to relieve some stress and loneliness off our backs so we decided to drop a drop in price as soon as it was possible.

Hi everybody, hope you are staying safe (and inside!) during these challenging times. Since we’re stuck inside our homes, we thought we might set off a series of challenges for you peeps. Without further ado...
Sound the horn, grab your ale and hurry to the Great Hall! The Bossgard Tournament is about to begin. It is time to settle once and for all (or once every week or so) who is the best Bossgard player.
Each week we’ll be hosting themed-tournaments, giving you a chance to show off your skills and earn some fat loot on the way. Participate in contests such as Thor’s Thursday and see if you can land the mightiest blow, or try dealing the most damage per match during Full Damage weeks. Or if you’re feeling particularly heal-y join Asha’s Love and Care, and strive to keep your teammates alive better than anybody else!
Ok cool, but what’s in it for me?
Besides the obvious bragging rights we’ll also reward you with in-game cosmetic items such as armor sets, weapons, color schemes, shards and even characters.

Valentine's volley of arrows has been bombarding us for some time now. Unfortunately, we lost our best man - Maksim. Maksim is now lovestruck and there's not much we can do for him. He's a big loving guy, but he's also sensitive. We're afraid that if we don't find someone for Maksim (and fast) his goofy old heart will fail him.
The oaf has been after Innes for a while, but that'll never work (truth be told she's too good for him). BUT! We have plan.
