Broken Lines - Patch v1.6.1.0

On Friday 18 December Broken Lines had a small update to fix the major issues that were reported to us.

The changelog is as follows:

  • Loading a mid-level save should now disable already run-level scripts correctly.
  • PPSH weapons in the Assault loadout will no longer disappear when unequipped.
  • The game will no longer receive player input when the end-level event is triggered.

Yes that is a short patch note, especially as this is the first post-launch update. It just goes to show that the Steam Playtest session was a big success and helped us to really clear up the major bugs before the main launch!

The Dead and the Drunk - HIGHSCORE CHALLENGE!

Greetings everyone!

To celebrate the launch of our expansion - The Dead and the Drunk, we're firing up a special high score challenge.

One of the developers (who you may have recently seen streaming the game on our update launch day) has set a benchmark for the first level in the expansion 'Unearthing'

[Primary] Your challenge is to beat his final score (1).
[Secondary] Get the highest Final Score in the fastest completion time.

Everyone who qualifies will be put into a high score table, and will be ranked on high-score Final Score.
We know that there will be a lot of overlap in the scores, so all tie breakers will be decided based on who completed the game the quickest.

Prizes

We do want to give you something for this event - but we do have a limited prize pool.

With that said, we decided that we will grant the top scoring players a key to Broken Lines so that they can do what they will with it (for example, gift it to a friend, use it themselves, and so on - in the end it's your key, even if we know you own the game).

Event Rules

Complete the first level of the expansion (Unearthing), then take a screenshot of the victory screen and link us to the screenshot as a comment reply to this article.
Loadout is free to choose - you'll need to figure out what works best to meet the objective.
Difficulty should be left on normal/balanced.

Broken Lines - The Dead and the Drunk AVAILABLE NOW!

Greetings one and all!

The time has come, our first expansion, Broken Lines - The Dead and the Drunk is here!
What's more, we have even more great news, this expansion is entirely FREE and will be delivered as an update to the main game.

The Dead and the Drunk

A bizarre new challenge awaits the surviving squad members. The mysterious fog released by the masked enemies is causing the dead to rise once again.

Faced with such a situation, the squad is now on the edge of a meltdown. Crashlanding in an unknown country, facing off against an unknown enemy, breathing in a pestilential fog were all bad enough, but now they have to face hordes of reanimated corpses.

Luckily Izkor is on hand to help keep the squad together. How does he do that? With plenty of strong booze that will put hairs on your chest and then burn it off!

The masked enemies are giving no quarter and will continue to hunt you.
The zombies will attack the living, no matter who they are.

What are you left with? A three-way stand-off against an insane living foe and the mindless dead.

Fun Facts about the Playtest

With the launch here, it's only logical for the playtest session to come to an end. We really enjoyed using Steam Playtest and want to thank everyone who took part as your help has been amazingly useful.

Thanks to you all, we were able to identify some major issues and fix them before the full launch, something that we're sure you will all appreciate.

What's more, the statistics from the playtest session beat all of our expectations.

  • In total, we approved over 260 people (more than we expected).
  • The average playtime was 2h 2m
  • A significantly large proportion of the players played for over 3 hours
  • Most surprisingly, 10% of the players played for over 5 hours
  • The longest playtime recorded was an amazing 20h.

What does this mean for you? Simple, the playtime of Broken Lines has now been significantly increased, and we hope that you will enjoy playing this new and bizarrely fun campaign!

Broken Lines - The Dead and the Drunk Game Changes [Patchnotes]

  • The game will now auto save every time a planning phase starts. In cases where this is blocked a message will show how long ago the game was last saved.
  • Mortar strike and LMG has been added to Izkor's shop.
  • Rifle rounds can now penetrate targets, allowing them to take down several enemies if they line up.
  • Shotguns now deal AOE damage, allowing them to take down several enemies if they clump up.
  • Submachineguns have had their firing rate and volley delays rebalanced, meaning that they should now have fewer 'awkward pauses' in firefights.
  • Panicking characters should now be more stationary and will not run into the open or towards enemy positions as often as before.
  • Soldiers can now be ordered to move while panicking, however, shooting and abilities are still locked.
  • Soldiers can now be ordered to go where another soldier is currently standing.
  • Enemies now have an 'active' vision range and a slightly shorter 'passive' vision range; allowing you to prepare after spotting an enemy before the enemy engages you.
  • There's now a small delay between ending an event and being able to start the execution turn. Now you can spam away that starting event all you want.
  • Target lines will now show their accuracy at the target instead of halfway between the shooter and the target. This should result in less cluttering of the accuracy percentages when fighting several enemies.
  • Projectile path predictions should no longer report false positives, ie. rockets and rifle grenades should no longer detonate on the cover right in front of a soldier, provided that a clear firing line was shown.
  • Weapon DPS stats will now include the reload time in their calculations, giving a more precise measurement of the actual DPS.
  • A flare now shows the area that it will reveal when selecting a target location.
  • Toggling the UI will now also remove all of the in-level UI elements for nicer screenshots.
  • Difficulty settings are now stored per save slot instead of being stored globally.

The "Broken Lines - The Dead and the Drunk" Playtest is OPEN!

Good afternoon everyone,

The Broken Lines good news continues to come in. Late last week we announced our upcoming expansion, Broken Lines - The Dead and the Drunk, and as part of that announcement we told you that we were going to use Steam Playtest to let you try out the game and help us to find any lingering bugs in the game.

If you need to refresh your memory, then be sure to check out the announcement here.

We’re now pleased to announce that we have begun to accept people in now. All you need to do is click on the ‘Request Access’ button and we’ll handle the rest!

The BEST NEWS

You do not need to own the full version of Broken Lines to take part in the playtest.

So, this is your chance to try out the game, see if it’s for you, all while helping us find any lingering bugs before the game’s launch.

Do note, access to the expansion via this feature is restricted to the duration of the playtest only.

The playtest session itself will run from today (7th December) and will end on the 13th of December (Sunday) at 23:59 CET.

Reporting Bugs

So, are you taking part in our playtest session?
Great, we’ve got a few pointers for you.

  • If you find a bug, please report it in this thread.
  • If you have any feedback or have a suggestion for us, please can you let us know here

Bug Hunting Event

We are also going to be starting up a few events to help encourage you to find and report bugs, the idea is that the developers will give a ranking to each bug that is reported. The more edge-case/hard to discover/rare the bug (as judged by the team), the more points you get.

We will keep a highscore table of the best bug hunters (based on the score) and the winners will get several copies of Broken Lines for their own private use.

Broken Lines - The Dead and the Drunk FREE Expansion Playtest!

Gooooooood evening everyone!

Today we are delighted to announce our upcoming expansion to Broken Lines, ‘The Dead and the Drunk’ and also a very special playtest session that we are going to start up very soon!

Before we go into that, please watch and enjoy the expansion’s teaser trailer!

[previewyoutube="7qKF0swVbNs;full"]

Playtest our DLC

Now that we’ve got to a stage where the new content is playable, we were thinking about what would be the best way to test the expansion so that we can find and eliminate any lingering bugs BEFORE we release it! We have put the game through extensive testing already, but in our experience, nothing beats the watchful eyes of actual players when it comes to finding bugs!

Luckily for us, Steam has a brand new feature called Steam Playtest (check out the link for more information).

A quick explanation for this is: when Steam playtest is enabled anyone can request access to the game/content with the simple click of a button. Then we (the team) will need to approve the request (there won’t be any issues there) and you’ll have access to the beta/test version for free, and you’ll be able to play it!

With that said, we do want to make clear that we are looking for people that would be willing to really playtest the game and then report the bugs to us, as we want to launch the expansion as smoothly as possible.

How do I Join?

To take part, all you need to do is to click on the ‘Request Access’ button on our store page and we’ll handle the rest!

IMPORTANT

You can already sign up for our playtest, however, access will be granted on Monday the 7th of December at the earliest. It may be slightly later as we need to wait for the final approval from Steam.
Once the playtest starts fully, this announcement will be edited to make that clear.

Playtest Events

As a nice bonus, once the playtest starts we will also start some special events for everyone to take part in and win some copies of Broken Lines. These will be focused on bug hunting, so use this weekend (5th and 6th of December) to brush up on your Broken Lines knowledge!

Thank you in advance to everyone who signs up for the playtest session!

The Steam Awards Nomination Category - Best Game You Suck At for Broken Lines!

Hello there everyone,

It’s been a while since we last posted here, but let us assure you that we’re working on something big for Broken Lines! What is it you may ask? Well if you look back at our last major news post, you’ll see that we held a special Feedback session (albeit behind closed doors).

The data that we received from the people involved was very useful and since May, we’ve been hard at work on a special expansion for Broken Lines. We’ll be lifting the lid on what we’re doing soon, but you may have seen a few hints if you follow us on Facebook and/or Twitter!

However, that is for the future, and this is for the present, so let’s have some fun with Broken Lines!

As you may know, the Steam Awards is currently in the nomination phase, and like all good awards, the nominations come from the players and communities of the games on Steam.

What’s great is that Steam lets us promote this nomination phase, we’d like to put forward our suggestion on what you should nominate Broken Lines for - the Best Game that you Suck at!

Now, don’t get us wrong, we know that you won’t really suck at Broken Lines, but as a strategic turn-based game with destructible cover, a panic meter that kicks to wreck even some of the more well-placed plans, and of course permadeath on the higher difficulties, pretty much everyone has had a phase where the game has been extremely unforgiving!

So, do you feel that Broken Lines is the best game that you suck at? If you feel that it is, be sure to give us your nomination!

Broken Lines - Feedback Session!

Hello there everyone,

As you may have noticed, we like to regularly ping the community to get their thoughts on what we've made so far, and, perhaps more importantly, what they would like to see us do in the future.

Now that everything has settled down we're looking to the future of Broken Lines and are talking amongst ourselves to decide what the community would like to see us do next.

So far, we've had two feedback sessions, the first was after the main release, and the second was after the customization update, and in both cases what the community told us was invaluable to us, giving us both direction and confidence that what we 'thought' you wanted, was what you in fact wanted!

To the Future!

Lately, we've been talking with our publisher, Super.com, about what type of DLC would work best for Broken Lines, and we think that we've got an idea (or two).

With a basic idea in place, we're now looking for some feedback from the players.

How it Works

At first, we thought about only contacting people directly (some of you may have received a ping from us here on Steam, or on Discord, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc) but this did restrict the potential audience a bit too much, so, we're opening this up a little bit.

If you have already been contacted by us and agreed to take part, you don't need to fill out this form, this form was put together so that we could reach as many people as possible.

The feedback is split into two parts. The first is where you can make your interest known to us, and the second will be the actual DLC idea feedback.

Please note that we will need you to sign an NDA with us before you can take part in the second feedback session (about the actual idea). This is why we ask for the NDA.

Important

We will ONLY use the email address that you provide to discuss matters related to the feedback session. This would be: sending you the NDA, replying to any questions that you may have, sending you the second feedback form, and if needed, contacting you for clarification regarding specific feedback that you give us. The email addresses will be deleted after the feedback session is complete.

The Steps

  1. We have set up an initial feedback form to see who is interested in taking part.
  2. For this part, we are looking for people who have played the game for over a certain amount of time (options are in the form) as we are targeting those of you that have game knowledge.
  3. There is a 'rate Broken Lines' question in the feedback form, but it plays no part in how far you get. This is simply because (if possible) we want to reach out to a diverse audience that includes people who both like and dislike the game.
  4. For those that agree to take part, we will then contact you on the email address that you provide with the NDA.
  5. Once the NDA is signed, we will send you the full idea and ask you to honestly tell us what you think about it.

If you have any questions, concerns, or anything really, please do let us know in the comments below, or if you would like to talk to me in private regarding this, please join our Discord server and contact Darkfall.
