Welcome back everyone, to this week’s Broken Lines news blast. We’ve got a new character to reveal to you, as well as the regular fun reflection on the game’s early development.
Know your Squad
This week we are introducing the Veteran soldier, King.
Veteran King is a big, intimidating man from a family with a strong tradition of military service. King has a talent for manipulating people - with his meaty fists if necessary. For him, morality is a grey zone meant to be challenged.

Game Development Fun
When you are adding models to the game, collision detection is vital as it prevents the models from walking into each other. When they are not set properly, this sort of situation becomes common.
So that’s it for this week’s digest, we hope that you’ve enjoyed it!

After a short break, the weekly Broken Lines news blast is back! We’ve got all your favourite segments, from squad members to development snapshots.
But that’s not all, this week we’ve got something new - a way to get access to the Broken Lines beta.
Know your Squad
In our last edition we highlighted the squad Medic, Hailey. If you’re interested in learning more about her, check out the last news blast.
Now to this week's reveal, we've got Recruit Fry, the Stubborn Nerd.
The youngest in the squad and an educated combat medic, Fry has high ideals and the squad often perceives him as self righteous - and they're not far off. On top of that, he has trouble aiming when under pressure, so he prefers to stay out of the line of fire.

Finally, we continue with our popular look at some fun snaps from the game's development.
Looking back at some of our early works made us think that we might have had an attraction to dramatic poses, as you can see in this screenshot.
The opponent that has just been shot seems to be practicing kung-fu fighting in his last moments.
So that’s it for this week’s digest, we hope that you’ve enjoyed it!

Broken Lines Weekly Digest - The Fantastic Third Edition
Welcome everyone, to this week’s weekly digest. We’re continuing with our look at new characters, how the approval of the squad will impact your gameplay, and to wrap things up we have a fantastically hilarious screenshot from our game development team.
So without further ado, let’s get into it.
Know your Squad
In last week’s edition of ‘Know your Squad’ we re-introduced Conner to you. It was a reintroduction as Conner featured as the main character in our Teaser Trailer, be sure to watch it if you haven't seen it already!
For this week, our focus is on Hailey, the squad medic!
This unorthodox medic will be vital to keeping the squad alive, which is interesting as her real talent seems to be ending the lives of others.

Character Emotions
The reason why the ‘Know your Squad’ segment of our weekly digests is so important is because the characters will respond to the player’s decisions with their own approval or disapproval. The player will need to find a way to balance this as, if a character’s disapproval rating falls too low, that character may abandon the squad and desert.
Players will be able to see what the character’s think of them by looking at their portraits. Check out these work-in-progress examples to see what we mean.
Game Development Fun
And finally, to wrap things up with a laugh, we’ve got another example of what happens when game development takes a hilarious turn!
In one of our earlier tests, we somehow managed to convert one of the characters into what can only be described as a mutated version of Fantastic Four’s Mister Fantastic, (do you see his stretching powers?).
So that’s it for this week’s digest, we hope that you’ve enjoyed it!

Hello everyone and welcome back to our second weekly news blast from Broken Lines. In this edition we are going to continue with our 'Know your Squad' segment, help you find us at Gamescom, and share some of the fun that we have when developing the game.
So without further ado, let's begin!
Know your Squad
Last week we introduced Avery, the hot-headed Scotsman, giving you vital information to the character’s back story, and how you can expect him to act in the game.
This week, we’ve got a (sort of) new character to introduce - Conner.
We say sort of because Conner featured in our teaser trailer,so many of you would have already got to know her.
Even on her good days, most people tend to keep their distance from her, but considering that she thinks that people just get in the way, that suits her just fine!
If you want the full story behind Conner, check out the teaser trailer.

Game Development Fun
One of the funniest parts of developing a game is when you finally finish a new feature and test it out for the first time.
Why is that you ask? Because it is almost always going to have a few unforeseen bugs that can be pretty funny to see (and frustrating to fix).
Take this, for example, the characters all moved ok, but their leg positions were entirely wrong!
Other times, the issues would only trigger with specific interactions. Like in this example, the soldier’s model was ok in normal play, but when he got damaged by one of the player’s characters, he would suddenly transform into what could only be described as an opera singer!
Those are but a few fun stories from the world of Broken Lines development. If you found them to be interesting, we recommend that you follow our various Social Media channels:
Though the summer holidays are now upon us, we’re still working away at Broken Lines, and so we thought it would be a cool idea to give you all a feel of what working on Broken Lines is like!
Know your Squad
The experience that you get out of playing Broken Lines heavily depends on how you manage the squad and what choices you make. What is also vital to your success is knowing the characteristics of the squad members, so to help you out, we have begun introducing the squad members with more detail about their personality.
This week, we started off with Avery.
Avery is a hot-headed Scotsman who is quick to make decisions but is also terrible at dealing with the consequences if something goes wrong.

Tips from the Game
Finally, we’ve got some screenshots from the game itself. Some of you may be beta testers, but for those of you that are not, we think you’ll be happy to see these screenshots. After all, not only do these images show you what the game will look like, but they also have vital tips about the mechanics found in Broken Lines.
Tip 1: You cannot shoot through your allies, make sure that each squad member has a clear line of sight!
Tip 2: Grenades have an area of effect. If used well they can be devastating against the enemy. But always be careful, grenades will harm your squad members if they are in the blast range.
Broken Lines releases their teaser-trailer for the 75th D-Day Anniversary
A story-driven turn-based tactical RPG to be released at the end of the year.
June, 6, Thursday - Super.com, a video game publisher, proudly announces a brand new teaser trailer of Broken Lines, a story-driven turn-based tactical RPG by PortaPlay. Set in World War 2, Broken Lines tells the story of a group of allied forces that have crash-landed behind enemy lines, deep in Eastern Europe. With the chain of command broken and no intel about their surroundings, this ragtag band of soldiers face a desperate fight to stay alive.
The all-new teaser trailer introduces one of the eight main characters of Broken Lines, Rosie Connor. In it, we see what her upbringing was like and how it influenced her as she grew up. All of this will be vital as players will need to know the intimate details of the squad members if they are to succeed in guiding them to survival.

“June the 6th marks the 75th anniversary of the Normandy Landings, and on this day alone, over 4000 allied soldiers gave their lives for the freedom of Europe. With so many people giving up their lives in just a single day, we wanted to release our trailer today to remind everyone that behind every soldier there is a person with their own unique reason to fight,” says Hans von Knut Skovfoged, Creative Director at PortaPlay.
This story-driven turn-based tactical RPG will be launched at the end of the year for PC, and later for consoles.
