The game was re-announced as BRUTAL JOHN 2. Releasing 22 July in Early Access. Early Access at launch will have 12 fully polished levels, a lot of content, and it's around 7 hours of gameplay.
And don't worry guys - you will receive what was promised in BRUTAL JOHN 1 + many new, amazing improvements.
Additionally, new high-quality key art and new screenshots were released, and demo was updated.
Reasoning behind game Re-Announce:
The game has evolved and moved so far from its original concept over 5 years of development that it could now be called Totally Updated Brutal John, or simply Brutal John 2. No more lame John you remembered from 2022.
At the start of development, Brutal John was a joke project that parodied modern old-school-style games. However, you, dear players, saw potential in the project and wanted it to become a true, serious FPS game.
Your support and attention have been our only motivation to keep working, as we have been developing this project without any funding.
Over the past three years, we have carefully read every one of your reviews and feedback, and over the last year, we also actively conducted playtests to make the project even better. What awaits you in the upcoming release will definitely make you happy.
Among other things, the "2" in the title also symbolizes the new second main character in the game — Brutal Dog — who you fell in love with from the very first footage. You'll be able to play as him in many of the game's levels.
Development News:
Let us remind you that during the second half of last year, we focused on enriching the game with interesting moments and cutting down on boring parts, such as long corridors or excessive searches for levers and keycards. As a result, almost half of the levels were completely rebuilt from scratch.
The game is now packed with much more engaging content, and we are confident that your desire to play it through to the end will be stronger than ever.
At the time of writing this news update, we are actively working on adding Easter Eggs, positive references to legendary games from the '90s and 2000s, revising dialogues and preparing them for voiceovers, and more.
Development Roadmap:
The next stage is participating in the Steam Next Fest: June Edition, along with a Demo Update featuring a brand-new level.
After that, the Early Access release is scheduled for July 22.
The Full Release is currently planned for December 2025.
FAQ:
Question 1: Where is BRUTAL JOHN 1? Will there be a BRUTAL JOHN 1? Why was the game renamed to BRUTAL JOHN 2? Answer: BRUTAL JOHN 1 is now BRUTAL JOHN 2. The detailed reasons were explained above.
Question 2: Why Early Access? Why not a Full Release? Answer: Because we want to release a polished product and incorporate feedbacks from the community. You all know well the examples of boomer shooters that launched directly as a full release — it didn't end well.
Question 3: Why has the release been postponed again?! You said in March that the game would be released in two months! Answer: This delay has nothing to do with the development of the game. Development is going smoothly, no problems. This time we postponed the release solely to participate in the Steam Next Fest: June Edition (since we can only do it once) and to choose a better release window to avoid clashing with other major game releases.

According to plan, Re-Announce Trailer with Release Date will drop on 29 April, PDT, 01:00 PM. (It may move to 30 April).
I want to assure you that this delay from mid-April to end-April have NOTHING to do with development of the game and trailer. Trailer is completely 100% done and finished, and already even voiceovered by Gianni Matragrano himself. The development of the game itself also have no problems. This delay is happening because we want to avoid possible news collisions with other big titles (like Oblivion).
And additionally, at re-announce date, new great screenshots will drop, demo version update will drop, etc.
Please don't be surprised, game name will have another additional word when it gets re-announced :)

Hey dear players!
As you may remembered, we had planned to release the game this year, but playtests clearly showed that the game needed more work, and since this we've done the hard work and conducted a total revision of the game's boring moments, the result of which was a significant saturation of the game with memorable and fun moments.
And now that the look of Brutal John is fully formed as an explosive, old-school comedy action movie, we're happy to announce that the game has entered the post-production stage. There are still rough edges in the game at the moment, but overall almost finished.
The game will be released in 2025, no more delays.
Tbh the project is being developed without a budget and only your support and attention motivates us to continue developing the project.

Halloween Update, Dev News #6
Hey there!
We know it's been a while, but we're back with some exciting news!
We've made some spooky changes to the demo, adding in some Halloween decorations that will be around from October 25th to November 3rd. This update doesn't include any bug fixes or gameplay changes, as we're currently laser-focused on crafting levels and finishing other stuff for the Early Access release.
And based on your awesome suggestions, we've also given Dog a more meaningful role in the game. Yes, you will be able to play as Dog in EA release.

Holo Girls, Bunny Hop Update #4
Hello dear fans of reptiloid battles! Today we are pleased to present you with a fresh update to the BRUTAL JOHN demo!
In this update, we spent a whole month paying attention to your feedback, most of the suggestions were very hard to implement, but we hope it was worth it!
1. We paid a lot of attention to the crosshair, we made it highly customizable.
2. The most important change is that we have completely overhauled the player movement system. We were constantly getting reports of issues with steering, heavy platforming and jolting while walking and have devoted the most time to addressing this issue in this update.
In addition to a completely revamped player movement system - we've added the ability to do sliding and bunnyhops, we've made these two mechanics complementary (a slide will allow you to maintain speed) so that you get the most out of your movement. In the future, we will pay even more attention to the movement system.
3. And among other things - we put neon strippers that will dance for you on the rooftops of the city.

Demolition Update (New Demo Level) #3
Dear players, we are glad to present you a new update of Brutal John demo, which significantly expands the number of destructible objects, additional new level elements, weapon upgrades, improves of the game optimization, fixes of huge number of bugs and new cutscenes.
As a bonus for your attention to the game - we have added a new, third demo level: Train.
In this major update we have paid a lot of attention to many decorations, making them destructible, so the game will be much more fun for you. We've also added an in-game "Super Shop", where you can spend the money you find as you progress through the game. In this "Super Shop", you can buy additional attacks for some weapons, like flamethrower or plasma beam, as well as some other items.
Also, we paid a lot of attention to optimizing the game and fixing bugs. AI of enemies has been slightly improved, so that fighting even with short-range enemies at a distance will create some challenge for you. We've balanced the gameplay a bit, and also added a new type of enemies - Pig Cops.
We regularly read your feedback to make the game better and better.

In this update, we took into account most of the feedback and did a lot of work on bug fixes.
One of the key additions in the updated version is new enemy animations. In addition to updated animations, enemy weapon models have been updated, and game performance has also been improved. Slight graphics improvements have also been incorporated into this update.

DEVELOPMENT NEWS: We can say with confidence that most of the heavy lifting has been done. We are pleased to report that we are almost finished with majority of the game's levels. At this point, it's mainly about the icing on the cake, making sure everything is running smoothly and creating the best possible experience for our players. The end is near and we can't wait to share our love and passion for this project with you soon.
NEW DEMO UPDATE: After some hard work and dedication, we are pleased to announce that we have implemented several improvements throughout the game. These include improved controls, improvement of pistol shooting and fists, a new reworked minigun model, and an optional marking system to help players navigate more easily. The changes to the demo version may seem minor because we're doing a lot of work on the entire game, not just the demo. And these adjustments will offer a more pleasant and accessible experience for players of all skill levels.
RELEASE DATE NEWS: Due to the difficulties that we've encountered in the development process, we have decided to push back the release date to 2024. While this may be disappointing, we assure you that we are working tirelessly to ensure that the final product lives up to your expectations.
Although we are a team of passionate developers working on this project in our free time without budgets, we strive to create an immersive and enjoyable experience for our players, and we want to make sure that it is properly polished before we share it with you.
