Added many new entity noises
Wretches now make footsteps, have a custom alarm noise, and a custom roaming noise. Hounds now have a better, creepier barking noise as well.
Added an entity frequency setting
Once enabled, this setting will delete half of the entities on a level. It requires a restart of the level to take effect though. Some entities, such as clumps, dullers, and deathmoths will not be deleted. Suggested by @Cross-Conception on our discord
Added keep inventory setting
This setting allows the player to keep their items upon most instances of death. Some instances of death, such as dying in level RUN, does not allow you to keep your items. This setting is experimental because it can sometimes cause physics issues. Suggested by @Cross-Conception on our discord
Revamped level 998
Twas in a poll, and now is here. The level 998 revamp has a much better staircase area, with a nice shadow pouring in from the top window (only available on high shadow settings). The outdoor area now has more fog, although the area is not done and will be finished up before the main branch drop next week.
Added more spawn locations to level 9
Most houses in level 9 now have spawn points. Some adjustments have been made to level 9 as well, like crushing in some doors.
And now, for a couple of rapid-fire changes:
Fixed gameplay settings menu Added a playhouse to the first level 18 hall Added some new props to level 571
In other BrVR News:
- Level 63 is well underway and will be added in the next few weeks. It will be reachable from level 18's rocket ride.

Added level 217
Level 217 is finally here, a liminal and safe level set on a space station. You can use clump guns to move around the pieces of space junk that are floating around the station, and eventually that will be tied to a clean-up mission. Suggested by @Niflheim on our discord server.
Added level 3.1
In another space-related change, level 3.1 is now here. A fresh new procedural level, level 3.1 is full of rocket silos, offices, and other rooms with various pieces of equipment in them. Think of level 3.1 as "ground control" for level 217.
Adjusted level 3
Level 3 is now properly colored and lit. In addition, there are now many new pieces of rubble and there is more rubble scatter. Lastly, there are some new entity spawners to give variance to the entities encountered.
Changed entity AI and added many new sounds and animations to them
Generally entities are a bit smarter now, and have some new truly terrifying sounds to boot! There are many changes with the sounds, like new alarm and chasing sounds for facelings, new footstep sounds for partygoers, faclings, and hounds, and the smiler sounds engaging only upon player detection.
Added a couple of new paths to level 666
Level 666 now has a couple of new paths. There is a fake level 0, a Japanese shrine area, and a few new creepy hallways! Previously, it was just a straight shot from the start to the finish. Not anymore.
And now for some rapid-fire changes
.50 BMG now engages ragdoll fling - Suggestion by @LunaNightZ Fixed a bug with the MP7 shot location Partygoers are much larger Added several effects to partygoers Added custom audio to level 31's roller rink - Suggestion by @LUKA Added several new decorations to level 31 All crafting materials are now sellable - Suggestion by @Cameraman Raised the pictures up in the elevator area of the frontrooms apartment
IN OTHER BRVR NEWS
We have taken a poll as for which level to revamp next. Level 998 will be the next one, as it won the poll handily.
Second, we will be running a weeklong sale starting now at 1:00 PM EST. After which, we will be raising our price to $7.99. This is our first price increase since the very beginning. We do believe it is justified due to the amount of consistent weekly updates we have brought and the amount of important bug fixes and QOL features that have been done since launch. As always, if you have somebody interested or are interested yourself, hop on the discord and we'll give you a free copy as long as you'll provide feedback and report bugs. We will be reinvesting most all of this money into bettering the game as we always have. This means higher quality assets, faster computer hardware, and overall a better game as a result.
Lastly, due to events in real life, we will be switching update Fridays to update Thursdays. This means that the next update will be in 6 days, not 7 as usual.

Here are some things that are new this week:
Added a base to level 24
A BNTG base has been added to level 24. Unfortunately, the base has been overrun by entities! Clear those out and you'll see that there are tons of supplies in every little section of the building. Suggested by @LunaNightZ on our discord server.
Added the custom gun skins feature to the AK-47
The custom gun skin feature that we introduced last week is now applied to the AK-47. More will be coming in the near future.
Added some new chunks to level !-!
A couple of new hallway chunks have been added to level !-! for variety. In addition, some bugs have been fixed with the generation.
And now for some rapid-fire changes:
Improved supernova pumping sfx Made it so that you can put a suppressor on an MP7 Decreased ppsh-41 firerate Added a delay to firing the M82 Made more objects in level 18 grabbable Tech Tree Arena music can now be controlled by music volume slider Added several new materials to level -1
Now, if you were on the main branch you'll get a ton of other stuff from past beta updates:
Revamped level 18
A new level 18 is now here! This level revamp may just be the largest one that we've attempted yet. This is only its second week in the game, the first being as a preview. There are still many bugs, but we feel that it is in a good enough state to ship out as a Beta.
There are two maps to level 18, the spawn map and the main map. First, I will talk about the spawn map.
The spawn map is a maze of rooms, separated into three main halls. You start in a large colorful playroom with tons of oversized toys like a xylophone and rocking horse. You can even walk on the xylophone and play it! The first hallway is cloud-themed. There are many oversized dinosaur toys inside of it, among other props. The second hallway is a dark blue kindergarten classroom. There are small rock climbing walls near the edges, and a few toys in the classroom itself. In the back halls of the classroom is a strange area with uncanny AI paintings on the walls. This leads to the main map. The third hallway is a very dark children's bedroom with many blankets and beds. There are also several desks which contain drawings with some of our playtesters' names on them. This room also leads to the main map.
The main map is a vast expanse of childlike areas. It is separated into 6 main areas: the neighborhood, the school, the playground, the tubes, the clouds, and the church. First, the neighborhood contains all sorts of suburban houses similar to those of level 9. These houses contain many bits of trash and surreal scenes like lightbulbs baking on a stovetop. It is heavily implied that kids have lived in these houses at one point or another. Second, the school is an eight-part complex of rooms. The school itself is separated into two parts, the daycare and the high school. The daycare is filled with rooms like a stuffed animal room, a room full of boxes, a locker maze, and more. The high school is filled with rooms like classrooms, cafeterias, and libraries. Third, the playground is a smaller area with a large amount of modern playground equipment. There is also a tennis enclosure there, which you can walk into. Fourth, the tubes is the section that is the most similar to the original level 18. There is a lot of playground equipment here as well, however it is all run-down Russian playground equipment instead of modern American equipment. The area is categorized by a maze of playground tubes similar to the original. Fifth, you can take a rocket in the tube area to reach the clouds. This layer is the most barren of the 6 main areas, as it only has a cloud plane and an exit. However, it is a great way to get a top-down view on the map. Lastly, the church is located a bit out of the way. It is beside the school. It seems as if the church is always closed, but it is still an imposing landmark nonetheless.
There are two unique friendly entities in level 18, the Plush Dino and the Booknado. The Plush Dino is a stuffed dinosaur. He will lead you to the rocket ship slowly, but if you pet him he will follow you instead for a short time. The Booknado is a large tornado made of books and can be found in the library.
All of level 18 is categorized by a childlike atmosphere, uncanny proportions, and a strong sense of nostalgia. A great new track by LunaNightZ is in the school. More audio is coming soon though!
Added 5 new meats
Wretches, Skin-givers, Partygoers, Lighters, and Clumps now all drop meat most of the time. These meats aren't anything special, however some have some interesting effects. For example, the lighter meat has an aura emanating from it.
Added a keypad to the red room in level 2
The red room radio in level 2 had a set of numbers in the audio file that didn't have any correlation to the game until now. Now there is a keypad that leads to a secret room!
Added "far away entity spawners"
This is a new feature that continuously spawns entities if there are no entities on the level for some large levels. More entities will spawn if you shoot weapons frequently without a suppressor.
Revamped level !-!
A level !-! revamp was hinted at a couple of devlogs ago, and now it's here!
Level !-! is now fully procedural, with around 22 chunks to generate. Many chunks have multiple variants too, with different furniture variations or item placements. There are 3 main types of chunks: Hotel chunks, obstacle chunks, and blue room chunks. Hotel chunks are normal chunks that build most rooms and hallways. They range from hotel halls to laundry rooms, to receptions rooms and more. Obstacle chunks have special challenges to overcome similar to level RUN's obstacles. Mazes of barrels and fences, hallway blockages, split hallways with two fates, trap rooms, and many more. Lastly, blue rooms can generate which are safe havens where entities cannot go.
Added several props to level 5
This is part of an ongoing project to revamp level 5, and it will continue into next week. This week though, the rooms on the side of the main lobby and the rooms in the suites area have been revamped. Many more rooms will be redone in the next update.
Here's a before and after:
Added new audio to level 18
Several audio files such as kids playing, cafeteria noise, and classroom ambience have been added to Level 18's main map. Do note, we had thought that we had fixed the grass in level 18 not showing, however, we could not seem to fix that issue in time for the update.
Added new chunks to Level Fun
A couple of new wall color variations have been added to Level Fun.
Revamped level 31
Level 31 has gotten a facelift. It is much darker now and has typical arcade theming. The carpet and walls all have multicolored 90s patterns, there is now steam in the main area, and there is a new model for skates. You all voted for this level on our discord polls.
Improved mk3 operation
The force required to pull the bolt has been decreased, tolerances have been worked on for interaction points, and the animation has been improved to take less time.
Categorized gameplay settings
Gameplay settings is now divided into three parts: the first is a technical part containing system settings and controls, the second is devoted to gameplay options, the third is for more fun settings. Suggested by @LUKA on our discord.
Added MP7 SMG
A new SMG has been added, the MP7. This top-charged, 30 round SMG is a more accurate and deadly SMG than the Mac-11, while being less bulky than SMGs like the Vector. The community voted on this in a poll.
Added Barrett M82
A new rifle has been added, the Barrett M82. This .50 BMG Anti-Materiel Rifle is a hefty piece of machinery. It doesn't work very well as a primary or a secondary, but is instead meant for a support weapon role. This rifle can be seen in levels 3, 4, and 11 protecting MEG bases. The community voted on this in a poll.
Added mac-11 custom gun skins
The Mac-11 now has a custom gun skin system. You can apply the custom skin in the gun store. Then, to choose the texture, upload it to the internet, copy the link, create a file in a directory C:/BrVRFiles called m11.txt, and paste the link in there. Templates are in the discord server under #guides.
Overhauled many rooms in the starting area of level 25
The starting area of level 25 has gotten a facelift, receiving updates to many rooms. There is now on average more lighting and detail. More vending machines are now present, and several of the walls have been replaced with futuristic ones from level 201.
Improved bounciness
Bounciness of the player against walls has been improved, however half-height objects still bounce just as much.
Added the spaceroom
Ah yes, an orange room in level 18 with two white-out windows and a single school desk in the very middle. Sound familiar? Suggested by @LUKA on our discord.
Added chicken bomb
This may seem like a strange concept, however it was one of the very first weapons to be in BrVR. It is now back. It is a chicken that you can through at clumps to kill them. There is also a timed detonation system on the chicken itself. Suggested by @Cameraman on our discord.
Improved revolver animation
The revolver has a new animation when popping out the cylinder.
Added new chunks to level !-!
A pool chunk and a new hallways chunk have been added to level !-!.
Now for some rapid-fire changes:
Fixed collision bugs with !-! Added several props to level 5 Increased cyclic rate of 870 Fixed a bug with cassette audio Added more pipe collars to level 2 Fixed the lods on the red room radio Added a blue tape square to level 0 Turned down the effect of the metro's glow Added more partygoer balloon color variations Gun cases now delete themselves in hard mode

We have taken yet another poll, you have chosen level 31 to revamp next.
Second, Goofy Ahh Mode launched on April 1st for April Fool's day. It replaces several of the sounds with funny variants and adds more meme-filled tomfoolery. It can be enabled in gameplay settings.
Third, we will take action on the settings menu clutter soon, making it more navigable.

IN OTHER BRVR NEWS
This update it 0.1 GB smaller than the last one. I have been working to compress textures, but bringing down filesize is nowhere near easy.
This update is back on the main branch! If you are on the beta branch, you will also be updated to this version automatically.
Here are some things that are new this week:
Added level 18 preview
This preview can be found in the legacy museum. It is a technical test and is rather unoptimized, it is not very playable either. More details for it will be coming next week when we (hopefully) drop it.
Added several new liquids
Luka's almond water brew, K3 Rizz soda, Grim's Kvass, NotASDF's Cashew Water, and Buzti's Backrooms Brew have all been added. We named them all after our playtesters. Thank you Luka, K3, Grimnee, NotASDF, and SherlockBuzti!
Added 3 new songs
Just like last week, we have more songs from LunaNightZ! These are ambient themes for levels 23, 36, and 369. They're quite calming. Visit Luna's soundcloud at https://soundcloud.com/zerobladerising
Released frowner from his house
Frowner has been released from the house in the boiler room! Just like in the old days you can now take frowner to other areas of level 5. How sweet...
Now, if you were on the main branch you'll get a ton of other stuff from past beta updates:
Added tons of new music and ambience
With the help of our lovely playtester and contributor LunaNightZ, we have added many new music and ambience tracks to levels. Among these are themes for level Critical, level Theta, level 25, and many more.
You can visit their Soundcloud at https://soundcloud.com/zerobladerising
Revamped MEG base alpha
This is the third iteration of the MEG base. Featuring all new entrance rooms, lounges, offices, and bathrooms, this iteration is quite expansive. All of the MEG features you know and love from the old base are still here. There are new NPCs and even an MEG cat!
Revamped BNTG trader's vault
The level 1 BNTG base is the largest base in-game! Featuring 12 shops and many other buildings, it contains all sorts of goodies to buy and sell. Now the base has gotten a graphical rework, with much more rubble and many more dirty surfaces. Canopies instead of cubic geometry, and trims instead of straight edges. The base as a whole is a bit darker now.
Revamped level 22
Level 22 has gotten a light revamp, putting more realistic rubble in place of rubble that comes out of no where. More dirt and grime leads to a more ruined atmosphere. In addition, many of the walls are now concrete, giving it a varied feel.
Added Level 369
Back a few updates ago we added Level Theta. It was created by a member of our discord named Gatchi13. They did an awesome job sculpting the level in Unreal Engine and then we revised it and put it in-game. So, we did it again. In fact, anyone can submit their levels, as long as it meets our quality standards. Join our discord if you're interested!
Level 369, made by our discord user Dave, is based on the Backrooms Fandom version of the level. It's a large grassy complex of concrete halls, often talked about as "The Grassrooms". Calming wind chimes play in the background. There are three exits. One to level 9 via a key door, one to level 18 via a vine, and one to level 8 via a rocky area. There are physical windchimes that the player can interact with, and also physical vines that the player can crawl up. There are many fruits and foods as well scattered around the outskirts of the level.
Added...gun...skins?
It sounds like a dirty word these days, but I'll tell you, "no microtransactions, ma!"
Jokes aside, there are now 10 new gun skins in this first set for the AS-VAL, AKS-74U, AK-47, MAC-11, and M4A1. These can be purchased in the Guns n optics n ammo shop in the frontrooms. Again, no microtransactions, just a highly requested feature bought with in-game money.
Added new balloon sounds
Our discord member @SherlockBuzti made three new balloon noises! And yes, it is an actual recording of a balloon popping.
Buffed most entities
A lot of balancing changes have occurred this week. Previously, many entities that were quite large only took a few shots to disable. This is no longer the case. About 2/3s of the entities have been buffed to make each encounter feel like a real fight.
Raised prices of many things
The shacks in Shack Storage, the building supplies in Moe's Building Supplies, and some other items have all gotten a bump.
Rebalanced the clump wheel
The individual token payout sectors have been decreased from 10->6 and from 5->3. This is only the start of the clump wheel's long journey and shaping into a fair game element.
Improved Smiler AI
Instead of chasing you around the map infinitely, Smilers now have a set radius where they disengage like most other entities. They aren't all-knowing any longer! They also engage at a shorter distance.
Hardmode changes
For those who don't know, hard mode can be ticked on in settings when you're in the frontrooms. This gives a hardcore experience with all sorts of buffs/effects. Now, when you die in hard mode you'll get sent back to the frontrooms. Not only that, but the vault will now have limited quantity in hard mode!
Added several new areas to the poolrooms
The 9-map poolrooms complex is here! Full of new and freshly revamped maps. A full list of maps is:
> (New) Poolrooms entrance area > Sprawling poolrooms > (New) Poolrooms showers > (New) Water-filled desert > Dark poolrooms > Dead-end house > Hotel pool > Red poolrooms > Dead-end pool neighborhood
Added a new procedural area to Level Critical
An infinite hotel complex has been added to the front of Level Critical. It has red neon theming like the rest of Level Critical, but is much less ruined.
Questionnaire questions are now checked by default
In the beginning of the tutorial, the questionnaire questions are now checked by default to prevent folks from accidentally leaving them unchecked.
Here are a few rapid-fire changes:
Added lactose-free lucky o' milk Added a new song to level 480 Fixed a small bug with the ammo boxes Fixed a bug with the full auto scrap bug Fixed a bug with ammo boxes Fixed some achievement issues Fixed a level 9 house collision bug Added a hive entrance in level 8 Removed poolrooms devrooms entrance Buffed AK-47 Fixed wretch and mangled ragdolls Buffed M1 Garand Buffed most entity health Disabled windows in the indoor playground Nerfed G28 M1 Garand ejects bottlenecked casings Added more details to the level 10 houses Fixed level 5's elevator Compressed 200+ textures and audio files Fixed glitchy rocks in level Critical Improved the new level 9 Increased clump pull time Fixed level 1's sports card trade-in Sports cards can now be added to the inventory Nerfed Taurus Raging Bull Nerfed AK-47 Nerfed Mac-11 Fixed Level 13 entity pileup Added the legacy museum to the normal hub Fixed chicken sandwich hand positioner Replaced poolrooms ladder Moved showers and sinks in the poolrooms to be at a better height Level 3999 challenges UX has been improved Jumpscare achievement fixed Fixed book hand positioner Fixed bad spawner in level 13 Buffed brown hounds

Level 9 has been completely redone! Level 9's streets have been completely redone, and so have the houses. The houses have been furnished more realistically, and there is now tons of new loot inside. Hounds infest the streets, and lurkers infest the woods. The neighborhood watch and the mangled still stalk the fields around the houses.
Revamped level negative 4
Level negative 4 now has better lighting, more foliage, and increased view distance. Nothing else has changed with the layout of the level though.
Revamped level negative 5
Level negative 5 has gotten a facelift. The sky, fog, and even the ground have gotten upgrades. It's still extremely cold!
Revamped the woodrooms
The woodrooms have gotten an absolute overhaul, with all sorts of new rooms, props, and secrets. There are also some non-euclidean effects such as walls shifting.
Fixed many picture achievements
The level 1 and 2 picture achievements have been fixed.
Fixed a couple of bounty issues
Previously, the bounties on level 1 would rarely give you impossible objectives like shooting a smiler on level 21. This is now fixed.
Moved the legacy museum to the hub
We thought it was too easter egg-ish to put in the frontrooms, so we moved it.
Turned up radio backrooms station on radio

Added balloon popping physics
Balloons now whizz around the room when popped, and make a satisfying pop sound when out of air. The string can also be cut now.
