Budget Cuts

Arcade patch is now live!!

We are very happy to announce the release of Budget Cuts Arcade - a special game mode with a focus on replayability, with 4 new levels that are added automatically in this patch. To access them you need to use the arcade cabinet in the main menu. We’ve also put Budget Cuts on sale for a few days to celebrate the launch of the Arcade mode and hope that you have a lot of fun stabbing our virtual robots. We don’t mind. It’s fine. It didn’t take us a long time to make them or anything. I’m sure nobody will miss them...



Arcade patch changelog:

  • Added Arcade mode! Wohoo!
  • New scoring system for Arcade mode
  • Local highscore system for Arcade (cheating will disqualify you)
  • Arcade cabinet added to starting room
  • New Arcade specific difficulty settings
  • 4 new levels
  • 8 new collectibles (2 per level) for arcade
  • New Arcade specific sound and music
  • Sharp objects glow red through walls and such when nearby
  • Arcade only version of Main menu, meant for VR-centers, accessed by modifying config_machine.cfg


(example config which sets arcade-only mode and forces tracking space to room scale)

  • Old game now called “Story mode”.
  • Story mode “Extra” difficulty is now a bit more difficult.
  • No longer able to fire translocator through walls, doors and vents.
  • Inventory no longer allows putting stuff in or taking stuff out behind walls, doors and vents.
  • No longer able to cheat items through Mantrap/Security station doors.
  • Added Polish translations (subtitles, in-game missions, and important text in-game as well as menu).
  • Updated the viewer window look (for friends who look at your monitor while you play), two different styles for Story mode and Arcade.
  • Sharp objects break upon impact with NPC in Extra and Veteran difficulty (i.e. knives are one-use only).
  • Tweaks to enemy behavior.
  • Various smaller bugfixes and tweaks.
  • More CleanBots




We’ve reworked some of the difficulty settings for our game so we’d like to outline them here

The new ARCADE difficulty details
Beginner

  • guards do not hear translocation sound.
  • knives and other sharp objects do NOT break.
  • guards take a long time to actually spot you.
  • guards have very low aiming accuracy.
  • guards are very sensitive to damage.


Experienced

  • guards do not hear translocation sound.
  • knives and other sharp objects do NOT break.
  • guards spot you quicker than in Beginner mode.
  • guards are be better at aiming than in Beginner mode.


Veteran

  • guards WILL hear your translocation sound unless you sneak-translocate.
  • knives and other sharp objects DO break when hitting NPC.
  • guards spot you VERY quickly.
  • guards have VERY high aiming accuracy.
  • guards are pretty resilient to damage except headshots.


Original STORY MODE difficulty details
Relaxing

  • guards do NOT hear translocation sound.
  • knives and other sharp objects do NOT break.
  • guards have low aiming accuracy.
  • guards spot you fairly quickly (unchanged)
  • guards are very sensitive to damage.


Standard

  • guards WILL hear your translocation sound unless you sneak-translocate.
  • knives and other sharp objects do NOT break.
  • guards have good aiming accuracy.
  • guards spot you fairly quickly (unchanged)


Extra

  • guards WILL hear your translocation sound unless you sneak-translocate.
  • knives and other sharp objects DO break when hitting NPC.
  • guards have good aiming accuracy.
  • guards spot you fairly quickly (unchanged)
  • guards are pretty resilient to damage except headshots.


Arcade Mode scoring system
Every time you complete an Arcade level you will see how much money your mission has cost, spending less money is better!

How to cut the budget:

  • Time is money, use less of it!
  • Don’t let enemies live to tell the tale.
  • Don’t let enemies see you.
  • Translocate fewer times.
  • Get bonus discounts by perfecting your runs.
  • Get bonus discounts by playing on the higher difficulty settings.

Patch #6 with translations is now live!

We have now added translations of Budget Cuts for the following languages:


  • French
  • Italian
  • German
  • Spanish
  • Portuguese (Portugal)
  • Portuguese (Brazil)
  • Chinese (Simplified)
  • Chinese (Traditional)
  • Korean
  • Japanese
  • Russian


This update includes translated text for tutorial popups, menu options, magnifying glass texts and subtitles for Wintas mission dialogue.

The language settings are accessed by right-clicking the game in your steam library and choosing “Properties”, then clicking the “Language” tab. The subtitles, which are also available in English, can be toggled on and off in the main menu.

Additional changelog:

  • Fixed a bug causing an earlier pager message to trigger after the last one, making the player unable to exit the level "Showroom".
  • Fixed a bug preventing the player from finishing the "Enigma" level if the player died after inserting the floppy disc.
  • Improvements to supervisor (enemy guard) behavior when searching for and attacking the player.
  • An exclamation mark (!) will now appear over supervisor’s head when spotting you on Easy difficulty setting.
  • The translocator no longer blocks AI vision.
  • Supervisors no longer explode into ragdollyness when you grab their gun.
  • You can no longer teleport-stab NPC's.
  • Translocator pickup (in cubicle) now shows correct text.
  • Teleporting while holding guard works a lot better.

Don’t Worry, Throw Knives!

Hi everyone!
We’ve been a bit silent since the launch of Budget Cuts, mostly focusing on bug fixes. We just launched our 5th patch, which you can read more about in this post. We are going to continue working on bug-fixing of course, but we’ve also been thinking about how to make Budget Cuts easier to pick up and play for those who want something shorter than our story-driven levels.

In order to realize this, we’ve decided to build an Arcade version of Budget Cuts with four entirely new levels and missions! If you already own Budget Cuts, these new Arcade levels will be automagically added to your game.



We also want to make sure that everyone feels welcome in the world of TransCorp - at least until they get fired and need to kill robots to survive - so we’ve invested in making translations of our game for 12(!) different languages, coming soon!



We want to thank you all for your patience and for playing our game, sharing your feedback with us, and for stabbing all the robots. We can't wait for you to get your hands on the Budget Cuts Arcade levels!

Patch #5 is now live!

We are very happy to announce we finally have been able to track down and resolve the severe throwing bug affecting Oculus users, along with a couple of other bug fixes. Thank you so much for your patience!

Changelog:
Fixed throwing bug affecting Oculus Rift users.
Fixed a bug where sharp throwables would sometimes get stuck in walls and other geometry if held while translocating.
Fixed a bug where players would sometimes respawn on top of an elevator after dying in Genesis.

Patch #3 is now live

Hi everyone!

Our third patch is now live for everyone - we hope this improves the experience significantly. If you're still having problems, please check out our Problem Solving FAQ, and make sure you let us know about any bugs you enocunter.

Here are the main points of improvements for this patch:

  • Fixed the translocator portal and/or the player rarely getting attached to a moving object
  • Fixed player camera sometimes getting tilted when dying while translocating
  • Fixed player sometimes getting paged while dead
  • Fixed bugs leading to inconsistent audio functionality
  • Performance improvements
  • Exploit fixes on several levels
  • Dynamic grabbing thresholds for Oculus Touch input - should make both throwing and grabbing feel good
  • Clarified level design for keycard at the end of Consignments
  • Clarified routes into security room on Showroom
  • Fixed lock on Enigma getting saved in an invalid state
  • Clarified bookshelf puzzle design in Human Resources
  • Fixed door state on Human Resources becoming broken when loading a save
