Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II

Season 02 Reloaded: Himmelmatt Expo, Raid Episode 02 and more Launching March 15

Prepare your Loadouts and get ready to redeploy — Season 02 Reloaded, the midseason update for Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0 and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare® II, is arriving on March 15 at 9 AM PT, following a patch to both games that will be released prior to the estimated launch time.

Building off Season 02’s launch update — which saw a brand-new Resurgence map in Ashika Island, the Path of the Ronin event, and plenty of updates across both games — Season 02 Reloaded will see the release of an all-new Core Multiplayer map, a Camo Challenge Event, a new functional weapon, and plenty more free content across both games. Plus, the Store will be restocked regularly with new Bundles, including a marquee offering that features a Bundle that will give some Shamrock & Awe just in time for a limited-time environmental update to Al Mazrah.

Expect patch notes prior to the launch of Season 02 Reloaded with further details on all changes, which can be found on the Call of Duty website.

Introducing Special Ops Raid Episode 02

Warning: Light Spoilers Ahead! Play the first Raid Episode to get the full context of the story so far!

Continuing the narrative of Atomgrad Episode 01, Captain Price, Farah, and Gaz find themselves at the base of a ballistic missile. It’s their mission to identify and acquire the attached payload, meaning they’ll first need to ascend the interior silo while encountering increasing enemy resistance.

Along the way, these Operators will need to navigate this intricate facility littered with traps, so be prepared to work as a team if you hope to succeed and reap the mission’s rewards.

Complete Raid Episode 02 to unlock the “Bad Boonie” Operator Skin for Captain Price, which can be used across Modern Warfare II and Warzone 2.0 online modes.

No Assignment Necessary

As part of the Season 02 Reloaded update, anyone who owns Modern Warfare II will be able to access Raid Episode 1 and Raid Episode 2. There is no Raid Assignment required for access to this tactical team-based experience that continues the story of Task Force 141.

Form your trio of Modern Warfare II players and be ready to deploy with this quick guide to pre-update preparations.

Preparing for Special Ops Raid Episode 02

1. Get your kits in order. Prepare for the challenges ahead by playing Special Ops missions to earn Stars and level up your Kits, which give you more passive and active benefits during Raid Episodes and regular Special Ops Missions. If you already maxed out one Kit, try leveling another to increase your flexibility when approaching future missions. Also, check out the RAID BUNDLE Season 02 for a Special Ops Kit Boost that can help you get those Kits up to an elite standard.

2. Recon out. The Assault and Medic Kits are easy choices when confronting a Raid, as the Assault player can provide armor plates to their team while the Medic revives teammates more quickly. However, the Recon Kit is also just as important. The Kit starts with a Sentry Gun at Tier 3, which is especially valuable for Episode 2. Later abilities include recharging Lethal and Tactical Equipment at Tier 5 and added carrying capacity at Tier 7, which both make this Kit a bonafide utility option for an Operator to complete a well-rounded trio.

3. Revisit Episode 01. Solid communication will take you far when approaching the challenge of a Raid. Work on your comms skills with another deployment to Episode 01, especially on Veteran difficulty (if unlocked).

4. Find Your Task Force. We recommend inviting your two best squadmates in for this infiltration. However, if you are looking to find a new crew or want to play Raids with other Operators who like Special Ops, try using the new Find A Party option to find squadmates that speak your language, whether it’s your actual language over microphones or your preferred playstyle.

Brand-New Core Multiplayer Map: Himmelmatt Expo

Mix business with pleasure at Himmelmatt Expo, a new Core (6v6) Multiplayer map situated on a European mountainside.

Tromp through the snowy streets, past the saunas and pool, and go for a drink — or better yet, a solid vantage point — in the Restaurant & Bar. Head into the main event center to shake off the cold and heat up in battles taking place across the lounge and terrace and in the enclosed theater below.

Deploy to Himmelmatt Expo in featured Playlists for Season 02 Reloaded, as well as within the Quick Play map rotation pool. For those looking to get a deeper dive into this brand-new map, check out the Call of Duty blog’s map guide to Himmelmatt Expo here.

Return of More Multiplayer Party Game Modes, Drop Zone

Following up on the rerelease of Infected, Gun Game, and Grind for Modern Warfare II, Season 02 Reloaded drops three more party modes from Call of Duty’s near two-decade history:

Drop Zone

Capture and hold the Drop Zone to earn points in this chaotic team-based mode. For every 15 seconds that the Drop Zone is occupied, a Care Package containing a Killstreak will be dropped in the vicinity. This makes rotating to the next Drop Zone a high priority so that you can dig in and start earning those packages ASAP.

All or Nothing

Equipped only with Throwing Knives and a pistol with no ammo, each Operator must fight for themselves in a race to earn 20 eliminations. Earn additional Perks by eliminating enemies, starting with the Scavenger Perk to allow for ammo pickups.

One in the Chamber

Load into the match with a pistol, one bullet, and three lives. Each player fights for themselves, and a single shot to any part of the body earns the elimination, granting the attacker one more bullet for the next fight. Try not to miss.

Warzone Third Anniversary Celebration, Free Gifts

To celebrate three years of Warzone, all players will receive free items through the in-game Store that are themed around the maps, seasons, and memories made since its surprise launch on March 10, 2020. These rewards – seven in total – are all free items for those who claim them and include a Weapon Blueprint, Calling Cards and more.

Check the in-game Store daily to claim your rewards throughout Season 02 Reloaded. Here's to many more years of Warzone!

Path of the Ronin Event Camo Challenges

Whether you’re finished with the journey to Orion or only have a few weapons with Gold camouflage, there are some new Camo Challenges for you to complete with the Path of the Ronin event expansion, available in both Modern Warfare II and Warzone 2.0.

As part of Season 02 Reloaded, the Path of the Ronin will shift from the Seven Virtues of Bushido to another key aspect of the Ronin: the ability to be deadly with any given weapon. Each weapon category will have a specific challenge attached to it, which can be viewed and tracked through the in-game Event tab.

Completing a weapon challenge unlocks a new camouflage — Winds of Ash — for every weapon in that specific weapon category. Complete all ten challenges to earn another new camo for every weapon — Bowing Blossoms — as well as a golden Charm that represents your dedication to following the Path of the Ronin.

Here are the challenges at a glance:

  • Assault Rifles: Get 125 headshots (eliminations)
  • Battle Rifles: Get 75 headshots
  • Submachine Guns: Get 100 headshots
  • Light Machine Guns: Get 75 headshots
  • Shotguns: Get 50 headshots
  • Marksman Rifles: Get 50 headshots
  • Sniper Rifles: Get 50 headshots
  • Handguns: Get 30 headshots
  • Melee: Get 30 kills from behind
  • Launcher: Get 40 kills

Although the tasks are straightforward, there are still some things to keep in mind to help you progress more smoothly through the challenges.

1. Two birds, one stone. Smart Operators will see the parallels between these challenges and existing Camo Challenges. If you have yet to complete the requirements to unlock Orion Camo, or have not gotten it on every single weapon, then try to align these event Camo challenges with those for Polyatomic or other Camos on individual weapons.

2. Always carry a Launcher... Regardless of whether there’s an associated challenge or not, it’s always wise to carry a Launcher. Use it to take out enemy aerial streaks like UAVs or VTOL Jets, which can help equalize the match for you and the squad.

3. …Until it’s time for Overkill. Once you’ve got your Pistols, Melee Weapons, and Launchers out of the way, it might be a smart idea to use Overkill to double up on those remaining Primary Weapon categories. Not only does this give you more varied firepower, but it also allows you to work up to two Camo Challenges using the same Loadout. Otherwise, have plenty of alternate Loadouts set up to quickly switch between weapon categories.

Note: As part of the Season 02 Reloaded update, the initial Path of the Ronin challenges will be removed. Complete them before the update to earn all related rewards.

The Crossbow free functional weapon will still be available to unlock via a new weapon challenge in Season 02 Reloaded, which is as follows: “Get 50 Longshot Kills with Marksman Rifles.” Alternatively, a Weapon Blueprint of the Crossbow can be unlocked through purchase of a Store Bundle.

New Weapon: Tempus Torrent

Season 02 Reloaded brings a new Marksman Rifle to the table — the Tempus Torrent. This weapon offers impressive damage and a fast-firing mechanism, making it a great Primary Weapon choice when deploying to the new Himmelmatt Expo Multiplayer map or to Ashika Island.

“This hard-hitting DMR from the Tempus Armament offers the versatility of the M4 Platform and the velocity and impact of 7.62 rounds. A patient hand and keen eye will result in on-target shots and quick kills.”

With a base capacity of 20 rounds, you can afford to utilize its fast fire rate in the heat of battle. Its recoil, though predictable, requires a steady hand, with a quick but noticeable kick up and to the left.

Like the KV Broadside, released earlier in Season 02, the Tempus Torrent has the unique property of being a new weapon on an existing platform from the Modern Warfare II launch. That means most attachments that were unlocked for the M4 Platform can be used on this weapon, so be sure to unlock everything from that platform to ensure maximum versatility when the Tempus Torrent becomes available.

The Tempus Torrent is typically a two-shot elimination unless you can land a headshot up through the midrange. Try pairing it with a short-range weapon — a Sidearm or an SMG or Shotgun using Overkill — for approaching tight areas like the event center.

How to unlock: Weapon Challenge – Get 25 Double Kills with Marksman Rifles – or via Store Bundle.

Shuriken Update

The Shuriken, a new lethal equipment piece that grants additional projectiles in exchange for not being retrievable, is already available in Season 02 through Resurgence game modes on Ashika Island within Warzone 2.0.

However, the Shuriken lethal equipment piece will not be available to be used in Custom Loadouts until after Season 02.

Emperor, Foot Clan Leader, Operator: Shredder Is Coming in Season 02 Reloaded

“The rat is mine.” — Shredder

The man, the myth, the villain.

Making his deadly debut in the first Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comic in 1984, Shredder is the notorious leader of the Foot Clan that uses his bladed armor to empower his expert ninjutsu and martial arts techniques. Now he is coming to Call of Duty, ready to slice and dice any Operator who stands in his way of victory.

In addition to the Shredder Operator, this Bundle comes with three Weapon
Blueprints, all based on the new weapons from the Season 02 Battle Pass. The
first is the “Oroku” Shotgun, which takes the definition of shredding to a whole
new level at close range. The other ranged weapon is the “Saki” Assault Rifle,
quick on the draw and ready to handle any threats at short- to midrange. And, of course, Shredder does not show up to battle without his “Steel Claws” — use this Weapon Blueprint of the Dual Kodachi swords with Shredder or any Operator to make your opponents taste his blades.

Other Bundle items include a Weapon Vinyl, a Vehicle Skin for the Light Tank, and a Weapon Charm that you can show off to prove loyalty to the Foot Clan.

Additional Bundle Highlights, Including St. Patrick’s Day Festivities

What else is in Store for Season 02 Reloaded? The first-ever Bundles for some Task Force 141 Operators outside of the Vault Edition, a golden opportunity to get a badass weapon blueprint and new Ghost skin, and a Bundle that will more than prepare you for the green rivers flowing in Al Mazrah to celebrate a mid-March feast day.

Tracer Pack: Padraig’s Pandemonium Bundle

Legend has it that in the middle of March, for only a few days, the rivers of Al Mazrah flow green. Some also say a rainbow can be seen over the arid land, with legend foretelling of something truly treasurable – if only for a single match – on the other side.

Whether those rumors are true or not, you should be prepared to deal out some Shamrock & Awe during Season 02 Reloaded with the Tracer Pack: Padraig’s Pandemonium Bundle. Featuring the “Off Kilter” Operator Skin for Conor, the Pro Tuned “Shamrock” LMG Weapon Blueprint with Green Tracer Rounds, and the “Scian” Combat Knife Blueprint, this Bundle has plenty of green and gold for those looking to get into the festive spirit.

Tracer Pack: Bone Chiller

Gold doesn’t just belong at the end of the rainbow.

The new Tracer Pack: Bone Chiller Bundle, arriving in season, features the iconic Ghost in a new “Gilded Reaper” Operator Skin. As the name suggests, this outfits Ghost with a tactical kit featuring a golden mask, something that may just make those other masked Operators like König a bit jealous the next time they have a debriefing… Or your fellow squadmates the next time you infiltrate into Ashika Island, Al Mazrah, or any Multiplayer or Special Ops mission.

In addition to a new Skin, this bundle comes with two Weapon Blueprints, with one being the “Skull Breaker” Assault Rifle outfitted with an awesome golden skull magazine attachment. The other, the “Bone Shaker,” is based on the new rifle released with this update, and is Pro Tuned to get the most out of its offensive capabilities.

There is also a new Finishing Move, a Charm, Vinyl, Loading Screen, and Emblem that rounds out this Bundle.

Generation XRK

Marking the return of the XRK manufacturer, as well as Farah’s first Operator Skin outside of the Vault Edition, the Generation XRK Bundle is a six-item collection of tactical wares for the veteran Operator. Tactical Poncho fans should also rejoice, as this cowl-and-cloak combo is part of Farah’s outfit.

Outfit Farah in a sleek neon-green and black rig with her “Voxel” Operator Skin, then punch through enemy defenses with the “Ectoplasmic” and “Resurge” Weapon Blueprints, pro tuned by the manufacturers over at XRK.

RAID BUNDLE Season 02, Deepwater Bundle

Farah is not the only Task Force 141 member to get a debut Bundle in the Store.

Captain Price is the main headliner in the RAID BUNDLE Season 02, available in the Store, includes the “High Rise” Operator Skin based on his appearance in the Modern Warfare II Campaign.

The Bundle also comes with two Weapon Blueprints, the versatile “Retrospective” Assault Rifle and the silenced “2019” SMG, as well as some other cosmetic items and 10 Stars for each Special Ops Kit.

New to this Season, additional Special Ops Stars within this RAID Bundle – and RAID BUNDLE Season 01 – can advance each Kit up to at least Tier 4 within Special Ops Missions and Raids. Note: player can also naturally earn Special Ops Stars through completing Raids and Missions with Weekly Stars, as well as earn stars through Daily Challenges.

Also, those who already purchased RAID BUNDLE Season 01 will have 10 Special Ops Stars for added to their Kits retroactively. Plus, a reminder to those who did not get a chance to play Raid Episode 01 nor get the RAID Bundle: you can get an Operator Skin for Gaz for completing Raid Episode 01, an additional Operator Skin for him in RAID BUNDLE Season 01, and get a bonus skin for both completing the episode and purchasing the bundle.

Complete Raid Episode 02 and purchase RAID BUNDLE Season 02 to also receive the “Ghillied Up” Operator Skin for Captain Price, in addition to the “Bad Boonie” Operator Skin you earn for completing the episode.

Meanwhile, Ghost will get the “Loch Ghost” Operator Skin as part of the Deepwater Bundle, which also includes “The Depths” Assault Rifle Blueprint and the “Tentacle” SMG Blueprint.

New Social Feature: Party Queuing

Among other technical updates across Modern Warfare II and Warzone 2.0 that all developer studios are working on, there is one notable feature addition that makes it even easier to form parties with friends and competitive teammates

Party queuing allows players to automatically join a friend’s party once they are finished with their active match. Just like inviting friends to a party or channel, you can access party queuing via the in-game social menu.

After selecting the option to party queue, you will wait in the hanger bay pre-match lobby until that specific friend is done with their match, then automatically join their lobby for the next match. While queuing, you can use the voice and text chat with those currently in a match, with all queued players appearing in the game channel member list for all players in said party.

Note that party queuing can cause the current squad to be ineligible to re-que for a playlist if their new party size exceeds the match’s maximum party count (for example: getting a party of five from party queuing after finishing a Battle Royale Quads match). In those cases, you may need to switch to a game mode that can accommodate the new party size, or figure out how to get back to the game mode party size limit.

Season 02 Reloaded — Himmelmatt Expo Map Intel

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RTxfh0sVT_U

Operation Himmelmatt Expo
Switzerland
Day 111, 11:37
Factions Deployed: SpecGru / KorTac

Get your winter jacket and prepare to deploy to the Himmelmatt Expo, an idyllic company retreat nestled in the Swiss Alps. Attendees for the upcoming Oil & Gas Summit 2023 will have to delay their arrival, however, as combat breaks out on the site between SpecGru and KorTac forces.

This new 6v6 Multiplayer map launches on March 15 alongside Season 02 Reloaded in Call of Duty®: Modern Warfare® II. On this medium- to large-sized Multiplayer map, Operators will navigate through the main event center and its neighboring amenities, which include the Pool, Sauna, and an upscale Restaurant. Catch breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains while booking it across the snowy streets; then get back to the task at hand and secure victory.

Spawn Point: KorTac

KorTac Spawn Zone (South) — Roundabout

KorTac forces spawn on the southern tip of the map, facing the event center, where they will see its welcome messages in various languages. Operators have several options from this area: Rush straight through the double-door entrances leading into the Lobby — where they can then head to the Lounge, Terrace, or Conference Room — take the double-door entrance leading into the Lounge, or stay outdoors, wrapping around the main building toward the Pool and Sauna.

Aggressive Operators may prefer starting in the Lobby, which offers greater concealment for tracking down enemy players. Want to start the match in a defensive position instead? Head for the Lounge and check for enemies crossing near the Pool and taking up position in the opposite Restaurant.

Also, take caution when moving through the Sauna; though it makes for a strong flanking path, you’re at a height disadvantage from several angles, so always be aware of your position.

Spawn Point: SpecGru

SpecGru Spawn Zone (North) — Street

Spawning in at the top of the map, SpecGru Operators can turn immediately into the North Hall or continue down the Roundabout toward the Pool, Restaurant, and Sauna.

The North Hall entrance leads directly to the Conference Room or the Terrace, where there are bound to be enemies arriving in from the Lobby. Operators with long-ranged Loadouts may prefer to stay outside, picking off enemies stationed in the Lounge from a distance or cutting off Operators attempting to move through the Sauna.

Situated directly across the Lounge, the Restaurant’s upper story makes for another defensive position worth utilizing even with its apparent risks.

Map Maneuvers: Route Planning

Himmelmatt Expo consists of four major areas, outside of the spawn zones:

- Event Center
- Main Roads
- Restaurant
- Pool & Sauna

Congress Hall

The Congress Hall event center occupies nearly half of the map, as it houses reception services, a Conference Room, the Lounge, and a Terrace. The structure is composed of two levels: the main floor that runs from the reception desks on either side of the building and through the Terrace, and the lower floor leading to the Conference Room.

There are two areas worth highlighting: the Conference Room’s Backstage and the Lounge. Backstage is accessible from the Lobby through a quick trip on the stairs or dropping down the elevator shaft. This is also a fast route to the Conference Room — a high-value location in several objective modes.

The Lounge provides a great view of the outer pool area, though its floor-to-ceiling windows make Operators inside clearly visible. Also, it’s possible to climb up into the Lounge from the Pool, a point worth keeping in mind whether you’re attacking or defending the area.

Main Roads

The Main Roads lead to the event center’s top and bottom entrances, with parked vehicles scattered throughout. From the southern Roundabout, one can see over the Sauna and up toward the Restaurant, while Operators in the north Street enjoy a similar view over the Sauna and against enemies emerging from the Pool.

Use the various trucks and vehicles here for cover as needed and be sure to race inside if you get notified of an incoming enemy streak.

Restaurant

While tiny compared to the Event Center, the Restaurant occupies an important position on the map, with several game modes positioning their objectives at or near the building.

The bottom floor consists of the bar, a small room with only the double doors leading into it and the staircase winding up to the second story.

While there’s more room to move around upstairs, it’ll still be a tight skirmish against any enemies you run into. Don’t miss the turn leading to the outside seating area, where Operators can get a view into the Lounge and over the Pool and Sauna.

Pool & Sauna

Yes, you can swim in the Pool, thereby conducting an amphibious assault by emerging and climbing up into the Lounge.

The Sauna offers a somewhat safer route when traveling outdoors, considering its position to the side of the map and the squat buildings providing solid cover. If you have to get through the Pool area, use your Tactical Sprint to get through fast; otherwise, you risk becoming a sitting duck on a cold winter day.

Recruit Tactics

Explore at Your Leisure

The Himmelmatt Expo has a lot to offer, but don’t feel like you have to take it all in on the first visit.

When first learning the ropes here, spend a match in the event center, exploring its twisting passages and the layout of its various rooms; then focus on dominating from outside, where you’ll discover new sightlines and learn to make the most out of the available cover.

Soon you’ll combine your knowledge of both and enjoy complete mastery over the map.

I’ll Start…Here

Once you’ve got a handle on the map, consider equipping the Tactical Insertion Field Upgrade. Being able to determine where you’ll respawn next can be a huge boon in the match, and the Himmelmatt Expo has plenty of nooks and crannies where the item can be dropped.

Pair it with the Overclock Ultimate Perk if you really want to get active about choosing your respawn locations, allowing greater control over the flow of the match.

Veteran Tactics

Do the Sauna Hop

Looking for a new angle? Try climbing atop one of the saunas for a greater view of the map’s center. Once you learn where to look for potential threats, it becomes a powerful position.

You can even jump from sauna to sauna to keep the enemy guessing. When things get dicey, simply drop down, use the buildings for cover, and move on.

Listen for Those Cues

While the event center and Restaurant offer great protection against enemy aerial streaks, you’re under clear skies when outside. Keep your ears open for warnings of incoming enemy streaks and get to cover to avoid attacks directed at your location.

You can also bring a Launcher, blasting enemy streaks before they become too much of a threat.

Prestige Tactics

Vanishing Act

A well-placed Smoke Grenade or other smoky Field Upgrade or Equipment piece can cause a lot of confusion here, whether deployed as a distraction near the Pool or within one of the event center’s main rooms.

When facing enemies out of range, toss the Smoke Grenade toward their position, cutting out their line of sight so you can safely get by. Time the smoke with an activation of Dead Silence to reduce their chances of pinpointing your location.

High-Tech, Winter-Made

As a larger map, the Himmelmatt Expo can become an arms race between Operators who employ scouting tools like Tactical Cameras, Recon Drones, and Spotter Scopes. These are all great items, but they fall victim to the Cold-Blooded Perk, which will help you maintain a low profile whenever you start running up against these kinds of defenses.

If you start to notice them — especially when using the Spotter Perk — consider switching to a Perk Package with Cold-Blooded as a countermeasure.

Objective Routes and Rotations

Mode Intel: Domination

Standing in the Lounge, the A flag is open to attack both from inside the event center and out toward the Pool where enemies can climb up into the Lounge or attack from the upper level of the Restaurant. Stick by the wine display in the café when capturing the flag to avoid taking shots from enemies outside. Watch the windows as well as the northwest corner of the room, where a discreet black door leads to a small staircase into the room.

Head down to the Conference Room to capture the B flag, sitting in a seemingly secluded area. With many different access points to the room, however, it’s a difficult task to determine where the next enemy may appear. Note the windows in the upper hall overlooking the Conference Room; this makes for a great ambush point against enemies who fail to take cover while capturing the flag.

The C flag is positioned outside, located at the top of the map between the Tourist Office and the Media Tent. Expect attacks from the Sauna and the Street behind the flag and keep an eye on that North Hall VIP entrance. Note that this flag is open to aerial streaks, so watch your head.

Mode Intel: Search & Destroy

In this one-life mode, the attacking team begins at the south entrance while the defenders start in the north. The A Bomb Site is positioned outside up north by the Tourist Office (in a similar location to the Domination C flag), while the B Bomb Site sits in the event center’s Conference Room.

The B Bomb Site is more quickly accessible to the attacking team, though the Conference Room presents plenty of dangers in its small play space surrounded by various entry points. Watch the upper window and the back wall for defenders rushing in from the North Hall entrance. You might instead send your bomb carrier through the Sauna to the A Bomb Site where the battle is less confined. This is a good move in the opening rounds before Operators have had a chance to build up streaks.

The defending team is about equidistant from both bomb sites, so it might make sense to split up the team. Even sending just one or two teammates to the outer A Bomb Site is well worth it, as they can more easily spot incoming enemies here as opposed to the confined Conference Room. Try jumping atop the bus here or taking up a spot in the upper story of Das Lokal Restaurant & Bar.

Mode Intel: Hardpoint

There are five Hardpoints on Himmelmatt Expo. The first appears just in front of the Restaurant; use the Showers area within the Hardpoint for cover. The Hardpoint then rotates to the Conference Room, which encompasses the stage and up to the first cover barrier past its front steps; you’ll most definitely want a Trophy System here, as grenades of all types are bound to inundate the enclosed room.

The third Hardpoint marks the only one outdoors, positioned in the north between the Tourist Office and the Media Tent. As the only point open to the skies, it’s bound to be a target for aerial streaks, so don’t group up too closely when defending the area. The fourth point takes you back inside to the Lounge — watch those windows — and the fifth Hardpoint is located just inside the North Hall entrance; use the concrete pillars here for cover.

Once there’s about 30 seconds left in the current Hardpoint, start rotating over toward the next. When the enemy comes knocking, you’ll be waiting for them.

Top Tips

1. Push and pull. On a larger map like Himmelmatt Expo, it’s important to get a feel for when you should move in and attack and when it’s best to defend your position. Move too aggressively and you’ll be eliminated in transit; hang back too much and you risk missing out on the action. The more you play the map, the sharper your instincts will become.

2. A run around the resort. Especially when outside, try to sprint across large open spaces to reduce the amount of time you are without cover. Consider equipping the Double Time Perk and the Stim Tactical Equipment piece, which could allow you to get around the map more quickly via extended or additional Tactical Sprints. While madly rushing toward your destination may not be the best tactic inside the event center, you’ll be thankful for the extra speed when traversing outside.

3. Work on the seasonal Camo Challenges. Season 02 Reloaded introduces a new Camo Challenge for each weapon class. Himmelmatt Expo makes for a great location to progress through longer-ranged weapon classes like Sniper Rifles, Marksman and Battle Rifles, and LMGs. It can’t hurt to bring along a Launcher to down enemy streaks, either.

4. Tac out! While it makes for a fine dining experience, the Restaurant has limited space, which makes it risky to battle an enemy Operator there. The theater is equally deadly, as you can’t see who’s in there until you’ve already arrived. Utilize tactical equipment, such as the Snapshot Grenade, in these instances to gather additional intel before rushing in, allowing you to better plan your attack strategy.

5. A different perspective. Areas like the North Hall entrance, the Conference Room, and the Lobby all feature multiple entry points surrounding the location. Get to know all the ways in and out of each area so you can utilize the best path forward when approaching the enemy. Keep them off guard by taking different routes throughout the match.

6. Break in the new Marksman Rifle. Season 02 Reloaded introduces the new Tempus Torrent Marksman Rifle, a high-damage, fast-firing weapon especially when battling outdoors. Down enemy Operators fast and get the job done.

7. Time your streaks. Don’t let your hard work go to waste by calling in an aerial attack just as the enemy is running for cover. Wait for a moment when there’s fighting out in the open or when an outside objective becomes contested. By timing your streaks, you greatly improve your chances of making contact.

8. Care Package incoming. Consider adding the Care Package or Emergency Airdrop to your streak selection when deploying to Himmelmatt Expo. The streets running along the top and bottom of the map offer plenty of room to fall back and call in the drop. Otherwise, these spaces are great to set up shop while you call in another streak, rather than be stuck out in the open while being out of combat.

9. Activate Scorestreaks. Larger maps like Himmelmatt Expo tend to give players a greater opportunity to build up score via assists, objective plays, and taking out enemy air support. If you haven’t already, try switching your option to Scorestreaks so that each of those actions additionally work toward unlocking your next big streak.

10. Come for the scenery, stay for the battle. Himmelmatt Expo’s sweeping vistas and fresh mountain air offer visitors an escape from the humdrum of daily life. Appreciate the views, take a deep breath, and then get back to the fight. Once you hit that victory screen, you’ll never want to leave.

Stay frosty.

Weapon Tuning Update

Our goal for Weapon Tuning has always been to deliver an experience that provides Players with deep customization for their favorite weapons: building a unique loadout for a precise personal playstyle. After examining Weapon Tuning in Season 01, we want to offer more value for Players by elevating the pros and reducing the cons of Tuning attributes. We are committed to making the system more rewarding for players going forward, without sacrificing overall weapon balance across the game.

The results of this adjustment will generally be felt as an increase in the overall impact of Attachments, with the effects of Attachment Tuning becoming more significant.

Tuning Balances

  • Tuning has been enabled for Laser attachments
  • Tuning Sliders have been updated for numerous attachments
  • Some beneficial Tuning attribute magnitudes have been increased
  • Some harmful Tuning attribute magnitudes have been decreased

SR (Skill Rating) & Divisions
Test yourself against your peers and track that progress with a visible SR (Skill Rating) that determines your place across 8 Skill Divisions.

  • All players begin our first Competitive Season in Bronze I with 0 SR.
  • Players increase their SR by winning matches and lose SR whenever they lose matches.
  • Both individual and team performance will impact how much SR you gain or lose per match. In higher Skill Divisions, team performance has a bigger impact on SR gained or lost so that all winning playstyles are more consistently rewarded.

Players can progress through eight Skill Divisions by reaching SR milestones:
Bronze – Starting Division
Silver – 900 SR
Gold – 2,100 SR
Platinum – 3,600 SR
Diamond – 5,400 SR
Crimson – 7,500 SR
Iridescent – 10,000 SR
Top 250 – 10,000+ SR

Division Tiers: All Divisions except for Iridescent have 3 Tiers - Tier I, Tier II & Tier III. Climb into higher Tiers as you advance your way through each Division.
Show Off Your Skill: It’s easy to see which Division someone is in in MWII Ranked Play. Your entire Rank Icon will change color and material depending on your current Skill Division. Your current Tier is also prominently shown in the center of your Rank icon.
End of Season Skill Setback: At the end of each Season, your ending Skill Division will determine where you start the following season:

Bronze through Crimson players will start one Skill Division below where they finish, starting in Tier I of that new Division.

  • For example, a player who finishes the Season in Platinum II will be dropped back to Gold I at the start of the next Season.
  • Players who end the current season in Bronze will start at Bronze I in the next Season.

  • The highest starting position each Season is Diamond I.

Top 250 Leaderboard & Division

  • The Top 250 Division returns in MWII, ranking the top 250 Ranked Play players in the world on an in-game Leaderboard that all players can view from within the Ranked Play lobby.
  • New this year, the Top 250 will be active from Day 1 of each Season.
  • Players will qualify for the Top 250 and appear on the Leaderboard as they surpass 10,000+ SR. The top 250 players with the highest SR above 10,000 will remain on the board and compete for 1st place over the remainder of the Season. (GLHF!)
  • Play like the Pros, against the Pros: New this year, the Top 250 Leaderboard will display CDL Team Affiliations and Profiles for current CDL Professional players and coaches. Keep track of your favorite players and teams and see how they stack up against the Ranked Play competition.
  • Ultimate Bragging Rights: In addition to new Rank and Seasonal Rewards in Modern Warfare 2, the #1 Ranked Play player will receive a unique, one-of-a-kind Calling Card and Emblem at the end of each Season.

- The Season 2 rewards are as follows:

  • Top 250: ‘Season 2 Top 250’ Weapon Charm, Emblem, and Calling Card
  • Iridescent: ‘Season 2 Iridescent’ Weapon Charm, Emblem, and Calling Card
  • Crimson: ‘Season 2 Crimson’ Weapon Charm and Emblem
  • Diamond: ‘Season 2 Diamond’ Weapon Charm and Emblem
  • Platinum: ‘Season 2 Platinum’ Weapon Charm and Emblem
  • Gold: ‘Season 2 Gold’ Weapon Charm and Emblem
  • Silver: Emblem
  • Bronze: Emblem

  • Ranked Play First Place: The player who finishes Season 2 in the #1 position on the Top 250 Leaderboard will receive a unique, one-of-a-kind Calling Card and Emblem for the ultimate bragging rights.

Competitive Integrity Features

  • From Start to Finish: Players who disconnect or quit matches will receive SR penalties as well as temporary suspensions, with escalating penalties for repeat offenders.
  • SR Forgiveness: If a player disconnects or quits in the middle of the match, all team members outside of that player’s party will not lose ANY SR.
  • It is still possible to earn SR if players can overcome their disadvantage, but a loss at a numerical disadvantage will not yield SR loss for players outside of the leaving player’s party.
  • Fair Fights, Even Teams: If a player quits or disconnects before the start of a match, the match will be canceled and will not count. The remaining players will be returned to the main menu.
  • Professional Conduct Only: Friendly Fire is enabled in Ranked Play per CDL rules. Repeated Friendly Fire will result in players being kicked from games and receiving penalties and suspensions.

Demotion Protection: After advancing to a higher Skill Division, players will be granted temporary Demotion Protection and will not lose any SR within the first three games in the new Division. Following that initial protection, if players were to lose enough SR to be demoted, they will first be dropped to the minimum threshold of their current Skill Division instead of being demoted. Losing their next match will result in a demotion.

- Demotion Protection is also applied for the player’s first 3 games of each Ranked Play Season.

Party SR Restrictions: To ensure competitive fairness and balance of matches in higher Skill Divisions, players in certain Divisions can only party up with players around their current SR. The player with the highest Skill Division in the party determines which Party SR Restrictions are used:

- Iridescent (Including Top 250) & Crimson: Can party with players within 1 Skill Division
- Diamond: Can party within 2 Skill Divisions
- Bronze - Platinum: Can party up without any restrictions

Additional Social Features

  • Hot Streaks, Literally: Win 3 Ranked Play games in a row over a short period of time to earn Victory Streak Flames that appear behind your Rank Icon in the lobby and in-game. Extend your win streak to progress the flames. Victory Streak Flames expire when you lose or after 72 hours without playing a Ranked Play match. Go on a roll and the competition will know the heat is coming. (Stay Spicy!)
  • Social Profile: Rank Play icons will be added to your Social profile to identify your Ranked Play Skill Division and Rank anywhere your profile is viewed across Modern Warfare 2 and Call of Duty®:

WARZONE 2.0

MAPS

Ashika Island New Map

Brought to you by our partners at High Moon Studios, Ashika Island, also known as “Isle of the Sea Lion”, is part of a small archipelago located in an undisclosed location, somewhere in the APAC (Asia Pacific) region. For now, this map will host the new Battle Royale Resurgence mode and will also be available in DMZ at the launch of Season 02.

Our team is so excited to finally release Ashika Island to the world with the launch of Season 02. With its beautiful Japanese-inspired location, diverse areas to explore, and a host of secrets to uncover, we hope you enjoy playing in this space as much as we have enjoyed the art of crafting it. Ashika also has a lot more to offer than meets the eye, so take time to explore everything.

Building on our learnings from Fortune’s Keep, the team was thrilled to continue implementing interesting traversal options while being mindful not to over complicate our designs. We wanted each area of the map to have an authentic visual theme that paired with the gameplay style of each space. And we wanted to have strong visual landmarks that could be seen from a distance but didn't tip the balance in favor of adding dominating sniper perches. But at its heart, it is an island with everything from rooftop “run and gun” gameplay, to “cat and mouse” interior brawls, to underground secret passages and waterways that help you traverse the space that much quicker.

We can’t wait for you to drop into Ashika Island and start racking up those wins. Just, please, no running around the pool!

- High Moon Studios

This map consists of seven major points of interest listed below:

Ōganikku Farms
The majority of the northwestern sector of Ashika Island is composed of mixed agricultural, residential and industrial use, along with old shoreline defenses.

Town Center
The western and parts of the southwestern island comprise a bay with impressive sea wall defenses. Northwest of the main submarine canal is a Ferry Terminal and tourist facilities. Cross the canal bridges to reach a hotel and market district, with an additional Gas Station and the semi-circular City Hall structure.

Beach Club
Further southwest of the Town Center and east of the Port is an aquarium and Beach Club and open-air swimming within the southwestern ocean beach. Parts of the area are easily spotted from a parachute drop as the pathways are a vivid aquamarine-blue color.

Tsuki Castle
The higher ground in the center of Ashika Island is dominated by an ancient castle with multiple fortifications and a natural defensive hill along the southwestern side of the structure. This is a large plateau with shallow, stepped battlements, cherry blossoms in bloom, and a scattering of secondary structures throughout the grounds. Look high for combat opportunities, but also look low; there’s an entire underground waterway and submarine base directly under this fortification!

Port Ashika
The southwestern edge is dominated by rocky bluffs, and a port named after the island. There’s steep terrain to the north as you venture to or from the castle, and a variety of industrial warehouses, offices, a comms tower as you venture towards the ocean, as well as a canal entrance to the subterranean submarine base.

Residential
On the lower ground below the castle battlements to the north and east of the Farms and allotments sits some residential housing between a couple of industrial structures (a Power Plant and Water Treatment Facility). Easily accessed (and surrounded by) tarmac roads, there are plenty of places to discover, both over and underground.

Shipwreck
The inclement weather and hazardous shoreline spelled doom for two cargo tankers. Both vessels have run aground here, and the containers they were carrying have been mostly saved and stacked in a pleasing manner. Further northeast are cliffs and the main looping tarmac road, as well as a comms tower and lookout above a gas station.

In DMZ specifically, Players will experience foggier conditions than those of Battle Royale. Players can utilize the fog for cover, but so can your enemies at range.

MODES

Resurgence

Resurgence is back! Grab your Squad and drop into this fast paced, high-action Mode that allows Squads to respawn as long as one member remains alive. The last Squad standing wins, regardless of how many times they’ve had to redeploy. Get ready for an intense fight.

How does it work?

When eliminated, Players enter a spectating state and must wait for the Resurgence timer to tick down. Squad members can shorten the timer by completing Contracts, looting, and eliminating enemy Players.

Resurgence

  • Respawns are disabled on the fourth circle, so keep an eye on the clock

New Score Events
In addition to the traditional score events, we have added new ways to shorten the respawn timer for Squad members:

  • Headshot - Eliminating an enemy Player via Headshot
  • A.I. Elimination - Eliminating an A.I. Combatant
  • Uplink - Capturing a Data Heist uplink point in
  • On The Move - If you move more than 25 meters while your teammate is dead
  • Hunt -You eliminated a Player while they were tracked by the Hunt mechanic
  • Hunter Double - You eliminated two Players in a row while they were tracked by the Hunt mechanic
  • Hunter Spree - You eliminated more than three Players while they were tracked by the Hunt mechanic
  • Armor Break - You broke all of a Player's active Armor Plates
  • Audacious Elimination - You got an elimination while a Squad member was down
  • Fearless Elimination - You got an elimination while being the last living member of your Squad

Hunt & Track Mechanic

  • At any point during a match, eliminating an enemy Player will display their Squad members for a few seconds on the minimap.
  • Specific to Solos, eliminating an enemy Player will display their location upon redeployment for 10 seconds.

Loadouts

  • Players can acquire their Loadouts via two different methods in Resurgence. Towards the end of the first circle there is a Public Event that drops a Loadout crate for your Squad. Loadout Dop Markers are also available for purchase via Buy Stations, using the same price scaling as standard Battle Royale.

Additional Information

  • Strongholds are disabled
  • Weapons found via ground loot always have attachments
  • Blue Resurgence Supply Boxes restock after 90 seconds
  • Both Restore Honor tags and eliminations show red dots on the minimap
  • Enemy A.I. Combatants only spawn during the Data Heist Public Event or during a Search & Seizure Contract

GENERAL

Private Matches

  • Private Matches are enabled for Battle Royale Standard (Solos, Duos, Trios, Quads) on Al Mazrah
  • The spectating feature for Private Matches will be enabled at a later date

GAMEPLAY

New Gameplay Features

All Maps | All Modes

Counter UAV New Killstreak

- A defensive Killstreak that deploys an autonomous UAV to target an area and jams the enemy's radar, minimap, as well as their HUD.

Al Mazrah | All Modes

Redeploy Packs New Equipment
- This new Tactical Equipment will give Players another shot at victory! They can be found in ground loot, on some Buy Stations and are guaranteed from completing the Strongholds & Black Sites mission.

Ashika Island | Event

Restore Honor New Recovery Mechanic (Season Launch)

  • Every Player in Resurgence will drop a dog tag upon death once per match, which can either be picked up by a Squad member or themselves after redeploying. Doing so grants a small Cash reward, as well as a single UAV ping that marks both enemy threats and nearby Supply Boxes.
  • If a Player recovers their own Fallen Soldier Tag or one belonging to a teammate, they get a 50-meter loot ping, a normal 300-meter UAV ping, and $1000.
  • The money reward will only be awarded once but the pings will be given each time honor is restored thereafter.

Search & Seizure New Contract (In-Season)

  • Recover a stolen vehicle protected by local mercenaries and transport it to a safe location for extraction. Avoid the enemy deterrents and ambushes along the way.

Data Heist New Public Event (In-Season)

  • A public event where laptops with enemy intelligence are spawned around the map, giving Players the opportunity to steal the data for intel themed rewards like UAV and Advanced UAV. Downloading the data, however, takes time, and Players will need to defend their download against AI defenders and other Players.

Redeploy Drones New Field Upgrade (In-Season)

  • Interact with a cable suspended from a heavy lift drone to ascend skyward and quickly relocate.

Rusher New A.I. (In-Season)

  • An aggressive A.I. Combatant that specializes in close quarters combat, utilizing evasive forward movement to try and close the distance for an attack. Has a handgun as a backup Weapon in case an enemy can't be reached for melee and mini-smoke bombs to help reposition and retreat.

Gameplay Adjustments

Loot that spawns across Al Mazrah has been adjusted…

  • Slight adjustment to the existing loot pool
  • Counter UAV has been added

Cash Economy

  • Players will now drop more Cash upon elimination
  • Players will now retain more Cash upon redeployment
  • Overall balance change to economy so that Players earn more Cash per match
  • Slight reduction to Cash rewards for completing Contracts
  • Cash found via ground loot has been increased to compensate for the above change
Minimum Cash value found:
- On ground increased to $500
- In cash registers to $500
- Basic Supply Boxes - $500
- Legendary Supply Boxes - $800
- It was previously mentioned that Cash would no longer be obtainable via Basic and Legendary Supply Boxes - this has since been adjusted

Armor Plates & Vest

  • All Players will now have a 3-Plate Armor Vest at all times
  • Players will also spawn with a different number of equipped Armor Plates depending on the following:

Infil deployment
Players will deploy with 2 plates

Resurgence redeployment
Players will redeploy with 2 plates

Perk Packages

  • Players will now be able to customize their own Perk Packages

Disabled perks

  • Overclock
  • Birdseye

Buy Stations

  • Spawn locations have been adjusted
  • All spawn locations will be static across each match
  • Loadout Drop Markers now have unlimited stock at all Buy Stations and prices have been reduced. Prices will scale to Squad sizes.

- The Season 01 FTac Recon “Brass Tacks” Weapon Blueprint reward has been vaulted
- All other Champion’s Quest rewards remain the same

Backpacks & Inventory

  • Loot will now drop out of all containers in the world, similar to loot from Supply Boxes
  • Eliminated Players will drop loot onto the ground rather than loot-filled Backpacks
  • To better define each Player’s role within the match, Medium and Large Backpacks will no longer be found in the environment
  • Every Player will have the same Small Backpack throughout the entire game
  • When Players expend an item in their active Loadout, stored items from the Backpack will no longer fill that slot. The only two items that will still automatically populate the Loadout from the Backpack are Armor Plates and Ammunition.

- The changes above should reduce the impact of stacking medical supplies, Equipment, and Killstreaks

Loadout Drops

  • A second Loadout Drop Public Event has been added, which means the drops will now happen on the first and fifth Circles each match.

Spawn Protection

  • Protects the Player when they are between 64 to 19 meters off the ground.

Gulag

  • Players will now face one another in a 1v1 Gulag

Introducing the Battle Pass and Bundles for Season 02

Prepare to forge your path across a new area of operations in the Season 02 Battle Pass Call of Duty®: Modern Warfare® II and Call of Duty®: Warzone™ 2.0.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zMWQByParDQ&feature=youtu.be

The new Battle Pass for Season 02 features 100+ rewards across 20 Sectors, including three new functional weapons and the Operator Ronin.

The Season 02 Battle Pass launches at the start of the season on February 15. Upgrade to the full Battle Pass for access to all of Season 02’s Battle Pass items or purchase the Battle Pass Bundle to earn additional Battle Token Tier Skips and get a head start on conquering the map.

Here’s what’s inside the Battle Pass, plus a glimpse at some new Store Bundles arriving in the new season.

Purchase the Battle Pass to Unlock Bonus Sector B0, Ronin

Players who purchase the Season 02 Battle Pass or Battle Pass Bundle will gain immediate access to the B0 Bonus Sector featuring Ronin.

An ex-Special Forces officer, Daniel “Ronin” Shinoda’s skills in unconventional warfare were in high demand during the Verdansk conflict. In 2019, the “one-man-army” volunteered for Armistice, a multi-national force that opposed emerging threats in the region. He believed this force would restore balance to the war-ravaged lands. Instead, he saw it descend into chaos.

After the fall of Armistice, it wasn’t long until inter-factional wars starting spilling into neighboring areas such as Al Mazrah. As a masterless mercenary, Ronin took it upon himself, using his skills in reconnaissance and sabotage, to maintain balance between the factions while taking up a new code:

Elevate your awareness, outthink your opponent, be honest and proficient, and trust your instincts.

In this way, Ronin has finally found the master he can serve, one that cannot be corrupted — balance, itself.

In addition to unlocking Ronin’s default Skin, the Bonus Sector awards four more items, including the “Corporeal State” and “Watchful” Weapon Blueprints.

The sector also includes the “Emblematic” Gun Screen, which allows you to display your chosen emblem while using any weapon, and a 10% Battle Pass Boost for faster progress.

New Weapon HVTs in Sectors B4, B11, B13

Throughout the new Sectors, you’ll encounter three free functional weapons: a new Shotgun, Assault Rifle, and Melee Weapon.

KV Broadside Shotgun — Kastov Platform (Sector B4, HVT, Free)

Bringing the power of the 12 gauge to the Kastov Platform, the KV Broadside is the fastest-firing semi-auto firearm in the shotgun class. Destroys targets at close range with impunity.

Get the KV Broadside using just 15 Battle Token Tier Skips, heading from the start and working through Sectors B2 to B4. If room clearing is your calling, you’ll want to head straight for this new Shotgun.

The KV Broadside is all about positioning, as its rapid fire rate and damage output are hampered only by its short range compared to other choices in its class. Without question, this may be a strong weapon against heavily armored Forces in DMZ and elsewhere, especially against Juggernauts — just be sure there is nearby cover to use between reloads. Against fellow Operators, the KV Broadside will add to the mix of solid close-range options in small Multiplayer maps or building-heavy areas in both games, such as the high-rises of Al Mazrah City.

Along the way to Sector B4 with this new weapon, you’ll also pick up Chuy’s “Fusillade” Operator Skin in addition to some blueprints and other cosmetic rewards.

ISO Hemlock Assault Rifle — ISO Platform (Sector B11, HVT, Free)

This powerful and enhanced rifle from Expedite Firearms is designed to take both 5.56 and subsonic .300 BLK ammunition, providing battlefield-advantage in any situation.

Located in Sector B11 on the other end of the map, the ISO Hemlock is a powerful mid-range contender that’s positioned three Sectors to the east of your starting position. On your way to collect the ISO Hemlock, head through B3 and B7 to earn König’s “Expedition” Operator Skin and the “Universal Tourist” SUV Vehicle Skin.

Once unlocked, the ISO Hemlock will be a contender in an already-deep Assault Rifle category, offering two different ammo types in addition to small and extended magazines for better versatility when constructing Loadouts. For those looking to have a damage profile similar to the M4, Lachmann-556, and STB-556, the ISO Hemlock can take 5.56 ammunition. Great for an Operator who wants to be prepared for a variety of combat scenarios across all modes, 5.56 is a gold standard for a reason.

Alternatively, the subsonic .300 BLK ammunition puts the ISO Hemlock in direct competition with the M13. More suited for stealth situations, such as lurking around DMZ, this ammo gives a bit more kick in exchange for hiding enemy elimination skull indicators. Combined with a suppressor and any other attachments of your choosing, a .300 BLK ISO Hemlock build could be a silent and deadly addition to your arsenal.

Dual Kodachis Melee Weapon — (Sector B13, HVT, Free)

A powerful melee weapon that can quickly move towards a target with a longer-range attack. Each swipe has an impressive range and faster forward motion towards enemies compared to the Knife melee weapon, though this comes at a slight cost, a slower strafe and sprint speed.

Located centrally in Sector B13, these short swords make quick work of enemy Operators. There are two main paths from B1 to B13 — whichever one you take, you can’t miss Hutch’s “Vengeful Dragon” Operator Skin as you near your destination.

New HVT Operator Skins at Sectors B3, B8, B10

New Sectors mean new tactical kits for several Operators, all prepared to drop in and make their mark on Ashika Island and Modern Warfare II’s additional Season 02 Multiplayer maps Dome (Core) and Zaya Observatory (Battle Map), Al Malik International (Battle Map), and Valderas Museum (Core).

“Expedition” König Operator Skin (Sector B3, HVT)

Dressed in full tactical gear, a mesh hood, and gloves, König is ready to take the fight wherever it may lead the KorTac forces. This Sector is right next to the start, making it an easy unlock.

“Gozen” Kleo Operator Skin (Sector B8, HVT)

Kleo prepares for undercover ops in this Operator Skin featuring pauldrons, a hood for all-weather target acquisition, and a red and black filtered mask.

“Sheathed Blade” Roze Operator Skin (Sector B10, HVT)

Designed for maximum mobility in close-quarters encounters, Roze’s new kit provides essential armor to ward against blows to her arms and legs.

Complete the Map for Victory Sector Rewards

Conquer all 20 Sectors to get 100% map completion and access to the final Victory Sector, which features the following items:

“The Peak” Ronin Operator Skin

Ronin operates at peak performance in this all-black tactical kit, featuring short sleeves, tattoos, and samurai-inspired shoulder armor. Equip this kit to show off your unflinching dedication to victory.

“Unchained Fury” Assault Rifle Weapon Blueprint

Ronin’s weapon of choice, the “Unchained Fury” Weapon Blueprint is a five-attachment Assault Rifle that is custom-built and professionally tuned for the Operator’s preferred style of engagement. Based on the new Assault Rifle releasing with Season 02, the Unchained Fury looks as awesome as it performs out in the field, with an animated surface allowing you to show off Battle Pass completion no matter where you use this weapon.

Ranked Play in Call of Duty®: Modern Warfare® II — An Overview

Ready to become the best in the world in Call of Duty®: Modern Warfare® II?

Presented by Treyarch in partnership with Infinity Ward, with the support of the Call of Duty League™, Ranked Play will officially launch at the start of Season 02. Following their foundation of Ranked Play in Call of Duty®: Vanguard, Treyarch set out to build upon this system, streamlining an authentic online competitive experience for players while offering more rewards to the franchise’s most skilled and dedicated players.

These innovations include a Rank system overhaul that puts more weight and reward on winning matches, as well as how Rank and Skill Divisions are represented, and the introduction of features such as Skill Rating (SR) Forgiveness and Demotion Protection.

For those unfamiliar with Ranked Play, check out what it has to offer:

The Basics

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zOKdPCQ3Tes

Ranked Play is the official competitive 4v4 Multiplayer experience for Modern Warfare® II, using the official rules, restrictions, maps, and modes from the Call of Duty League, which can be read here. Whenever the Call of Duty League rules are updated, expect changes to the Ranked Play rules to follow suit.

Players must be at least Level 16 to access Ranked Play but will have all unrestricted items – including weapons and attachments – automatically unlocked within this mode to ensure that all players are on the same competitive footing.

Just like in the Call of Duty League, each Ranked Play match will take place on a map and mode from the following list:

Hardpoint

- Al Bagra Fortress
- Breenbergh Hotel
- Embassy
- Mercado Las Almas
- Zarqwa Hydroelectric

Search & Destroy

- Al Bagra Fortress
- Breenbergh Hotel
- El Asilo
- Embassy
- Mercado Las Almas

Control

- Al Bagra Fortress
- Breenbergh Hotel
- El Asilo

Playing matches grants Skill Rating (SR), which determines what Skill Division out of the eight you belong to:

Bronze – 0-899 SR
Silver – 900-2,099 SR
Gold – 2,100-3,599 SR
Platinum – 3,600-5,399 SR
Diamond – 5,400-7,499 SR
Crimson – 7,500-9,999 SR
Iridescent – 10,000 SR minimum
Top 250 – 10,000+ SR (see below)

Your Skill Rating is based mainly on the result of every match you play – simply put, win the match to gain SR, lose the match and lose SR. Individual performance and your team’s overall performance will impact the amount of SR you gain or lose each match. In higher Skill Divisions, more emphasis will be put on team performance to ensure all winning playstyles are appropriately rewarded.

Every Skill Division below Iridescent has three Tiers to progress through. These Tiers provide additional granularity to each Division and help players feel a sense of progression as they climb. Think of these as additional SR subcategories within each Skill Division, separating the range of SR in each Division into thirds.

Returning from the Vanguard Ranked Play system is the Top 250 Skill Division, which is above Iridescent. The 250 best players with the highest SR above 10,000 will be put on the Top 250 Leaderboards for all to see.

This year, the Top 250 will be active at the beginning of each Season and start to fill as the best players climb above 10,000 SR and qualify. The race to Top 250 is on – who will be the first player to qualify in Season 02?

Also new to the Top 250 this year, something to help everyone keep track of their favorite CDL Pros who qualify for the Top 250 Leaderboard; each Pro who reaches this Leaderboard will have their CDL team affiliation and player profile displayed on their ranking. Will a Pro finish Season 02 on the #1 spot? Or will a future League player make it to the top instead?

In Modern Warfare II Ranked Play everyone will start out as a Bronze Ranked player. That means you will get to play at any time you want with no placement matches, allowing you to compete with everyone else across Ranked Play the second it goes live. Yes, even kings and tiny terrors had to start somewhere — play well enough, and you will move up through the available Skill Divisions in only a few matches. This nets out to a simpler overall experience with the removal of Ladders and Ladder Points, allowing you to just focus on winning and getting that SR up.

As for squadding up, you are allowed to bring up to three squadmates into matches if they fall within a certain Skill Division threshold, with the highest Skill Division in the party determining the restriction rules:

  • Bronze through Platinum players can party up with no restrictions.
  • Diamond and Crimson players can only form parties with and play against other players within two Skill Divisions.
  • Iridescent and Top 250 Players can only form parties with and play against other players within one Skill Division.

At the end of each Ranked Play Season, your highest Skill Division placement for the Season determines what rewards you earn, as well as where you start for the next Season:

Bronze through Crimson players will start one Skill Division back (save for Bronze, which will begin with Bronze Tier I) with Demotion Protection enabled for your first 3 matches (see Additional New Features).

Iridescent and Top 250 will start at the Diamond Tier I Skill Division with Demotion Protection enabled for several matches.

Rank, Seasonal Win Challenges

Winning a Ranked Play match also counts toward two additional systems: your Rank and Seasonal Win Rewards.

The Rank represents your cumulative progress in Ranked Play, starting at Rank 1 and going through Rank 50. Advancing through Ranks is as simple as winning matches – every Ranked Play win awards a Star. Earn enough Stars and you'll progress to the next Rank in your journey to Rank 50. Every five Ranks awards a new symbol that appears in the color of your Skill Division, such as a Wolf for Ranks 11–15 or the mighty Silverback Gorilla for Ranks 31–35. Unlike Skill Divisions, Ranks do not reset between Ranked Seasons.

Each win also counts toward a Seasonal Win Challenge, which will offer new rewards each Ranked Season.

In other words, no matter your Skill Division, you still get rewarded and the next Rank up is only a few wins away.

Additional New Features

Ranked Play competitors know some of the most frustrating times are when a random teammate decides to quit at the beginning of a match or right in the middle of the action. While it is impossible to prevent players from disconnecting, there are a few new features being introduced with this version of Ranked Play to make those moments more manageable:

First, Ranked Play matches will not start if teams are uneven. If a player disconnects or quits before a match begins, all remaining players will return to the lobby and the match will not count.

Then there is SR Forgiveness: if a player disconnects or quits in the middle of the match, all team members outside of that player’s party will not lose ANY SR. Basically, if that 4v4 becomes a 3v4 due to a teammate quitting, SR can still be earned if you manage to overcome the disadvantage and win the match, but losing while shorthanded won’t deduct any SR.

Like previous Ranked Play iterations, penalties and suspensions can be given to those who quit, disconnect, sit idle, or commit friendly fire too often. Players who show repeated bad behavior will be handed more severe punishments. The system used to evaluate repeated bad behavior has been overhauled in Modern Warfare II to punish bad actors and avoid harsh punishments for players who consistently play the game the right way, or who change their ways after being penalized or suspended more consistently.

Another new feature is Demotion Protection, which will help all players avoid immediate relegation after advancing to a new Skill Division. After advancing to a higher Skill Division, players will not lose any SR within the first three games in the new Division. Following that initial protection, if players do lose enough SR to risk relegation, players must lose two consecutive matches to be demoted out of their Skill Division. Demotion Protection also applies to the first three matches of every Season.

Two additional features of note are Hot Streak Flames, which rewards players who can rack up 3+ game win streaks over a 72-hour period, and the addition of Ranked Play Icons in Social Profiles, allowing you to show off that Skill Division and Rank across Modern Warfare II and Call of Duty®: Warzone™ 2.0, no matter what mode you play.

To the Victor — and the Most Dedicated — Go the Spoils

Whether you’re in the Top 250 or have only ranked up a times, there is plenty that comes with winning Ranked Play games. And all of them can be shown off within Ranked Play, in Modern Warfare II Multiplayer, or even in Warzone 2.0.

First, there are several Seasonal Win Rewards for this first Ranked Season, starting with a Sticker at 5 wins and a Pro Issue SMG Blueprint, which includes attachments that are fit for competitive play, that is awarded at 10 wins. Additional rewards up this progression path include a Charm, Decal, and Loading screen all the way up to a Weapon Camo, which can be used on any weapon and is awarded after winning 100 matches.

In terms of Rank Rewards, there are a few key items outside of a new Calling Card every five ranks and some additional, competitive-focused cosmetics:

  • Rank 5: “Ranked Competitor” Operator Skin Pack, one “Home” version and one “Away” version awarded for both the Male and Female CDL Operators
  • Rank 15: Pro Issue Sidearm Blueprint, which has similar attachments to what is used at the highest level of competitive play.
  • Rank 30: New Gun Screen that tracks Ranked Play wins.
  • Rank 40: Pro Issue Combat Knife Blueprint, which is another popular competitive Secondary weapon.
  • Rank 50: “Ranked Veteran” Operator Skins (Home and Away) awarded to Male and Female CDL Operators, proof of your commitment to Ranked Play no matter your Skill Division

As for Skill Division Rewards, it’s not about where you finish the season, but rather the highest Skill Division reached during it.

Reaching Bronze and Silver Ranks awards a new Emblem, while reaching any other Skill Division — including the Top 250— grants two new special Operator Skins, an Animated Emblem, and a Weapon Charm. You can earn the other Skill Division rewards by finishing at a higher (or lower) Division in the following seasons.

Iridescent and Top 250 members also get an Animated Calling Card, while the #1 Ranked Play player will receive a special, one-of-a-kind exclusive Animated Calling Card and Emblem, which can be considered the ultimate bragging rights from Ranked Play.

With all these rewards on offer starting in Season 02, you better start up a few new voice channels and start scrimming for Ranked Play — it’s your year, after all.

Tips from the Pros

Outside of playing the game and learning from experience, how else can you prepare for the start of Ranked Play?

At Major II hosted by the Boston Breach, where Atlanta FaZe took home $200,000 and 65 CDL Points, we asked a Call of Duty League pro players for some advice on mastering the game’s competitive modes.

Cameron "Cammy" McKilligan of the Minnesota Røkkr, a 2020 Call of Duty League All-Star and one of Scotland’s greatest pro players, broke down what it takes to win Search and Destroy:

“Search and Destroy is very situational. The best thing you can do is to just play it as much as possible and get familiar with the maps, find angles to watch routes your opponents will be taking to get information and kills. The more you play the more you pick up the little things that are important for Search and Destroy. You get more experience in all those situations like 1 v 1s, 1 v 2s, 2 v 2s, and learn how to handle them.”

Amer "Pred" Zulbeari of the Seattle Surge, last year’s Call of Duty League Rookie of the Year, had this to say about Hardpoint:

“Every hill on Hardpoint is 60 seconds but you should start to rotate to the next hill when the timer gets to 30 seconds. You’ll want to keep people on the hill soaking up the time but whoever is going to rotate should start to head towards the new hill around the 30-second mark. The first guy going to the new hill should take the longest route.”

And finally, there is no better way to study up on competitive play than by watching the Call of Duty League in action.

Qualifiers for OpTic Texas’ Major III begin on February 17, with all games to be streamed on the official Call of Duty League channel. Tune in to watch Cammy, Pred, and the rest of these incredible pro players battle for positioning as we reach the 2023 regular season’s halfway mark.

Season 02 Tactical Overview — Ashika Island, DMZ, and more

Welcome to Warzone 2.0 Season 02

Get ready to squad up and drop into Season 02 of Call of Duty®: Warzone™ 2.0, introducing the new Ashika Island map to Battle Royale and DMZ. Developed by High Moon Studios, Ashika Island brings players to a Resurgence-sized, centuries-old village in an archipelago, presenting all new risks and rewards across its many locales, bridges, districts, and waterways.

The new season will also feature the return of the 1v1 Gulag, a new AI Combatant, the Path of the Ronin seasonal event, new DMZ Faction Missions, and more. Season 02 launches on February 15. Read on for a tactical overview of everything coming to Warzone 2.0.

BATTLE ROYALE OVERVIEW

  • Ashika Island Debuts with Resurgence. Explore a new environment with the launch of Ashika Island, debuting alongside Resurgence Battle Royale.
  • 1v1 Gulag. The 1v1 Gulag returns, including changes to the current Gulag map, ground loot, and starting Loadouts.
  • New Contract, Public Event, the Rusher, and More. Take on new challenges that will be added to Ashika Island throughout Season 02.
  • General Season 02 Changes. Season 02 introduces other changes across Ashika Island and Al Mazrah, including adjustments to your starting armor, Buy Stations, and Stronghold rewards.

Introducing Ashika Island

Welcome to Ashika Island, aka “Isle of the Sea Lion.” What was once planned as a resort destination is now under siege by Shadow Company, whose forces are looking for local members of the Ultranationalist Konni Group.

A compact, medium-sized map designed for Resurgence, Ashika Island includes various locales such as the Town Center, Beach Club, Tsuki Castle, Port Ashika, and river channels and bridges spread throughout the environment.

See our Deep Dive on Ashika Island for a rundown of the new Resurgence map’s seven major points of interest.

Resurgence Returns

Playlist updates throughout Season 02 will feature Resurgence in Solos, Duos, Trios, and Quads. In this mode, a countdown appears next to the name of any eliminated squad member, as long as at least one other squad member is still alive. Once the timer completes, the eliminated player is redeployed.

Squads who complete objectives like eliminating squads or finishing contracts will shorten the countdown, bringing their fallen teammates back into the match more quickly. The countdown will grow longer over the course of the match until eventually being disabled in the final minutes.

The last squad standing wins.

Our main tips for Resurgence are as follows:

  • Move as one. In any squad-based version of Resurgence, squads that stick together are more likely to survive. From the initial drop to the final circle, coordinate your movements to ensure no Operator is left behind.
  • The intel advantage. Eliminating any member of an enemy team temporarily reveals their squadmate’s positions on the Tac Map. Use this to track down and completely wipe squads, so they are unable to redeploy back to full strength!
  • Clutch up, stay alive. If your squad members are down, prioritize your life to ensure they can redeploy. Remember that looting items, completing contracts, and earning eliminations shorten their Resurgence countdown, but sometimes, waiting out the clock for a few seconds can be the difference between the squad redeploying and an untimely end to a match.

New Feature: Restore Honor

Restore your honor and exact revenge against your enemy.

Once per match, Operators who fall on Ashika Island will drop a dog tag where they perished. If you or one of your squadmates picks up the dog tag, you’ll be rewarded with a small Cash reward and a UAV Ping to scan the area for supplies and potentially the position of the enemy Operator who downed you.

Here are two strategies for this new feature:

  • Truly Honorable. Heading straight for your dog tag after a redeployment is a smart way to get a head start on that fresh life. Alternatively, have a squadmate pick up that tag and call out nearby Supply Boxes so you can quickly build back that Loadout.
  • Dishonorable Bait. Given the advantage it provides, an enemy dog tag can be used to lure enemy teams into exposing their position. If you see a dog tag in the wild, consider taking an advantageous position near it and pick off any Operator who attempts to pick it up.

A New Path to Riches

Season 02 balances the Battle Royale Cash economy for more consistent rewards when pursuing resources. The Cash payout for completing contracts has been slightly reduced, while the minimum value of Cash piles as ground loot has been increased to $800 and from cash registers it has been increased to $500.

Cash will no longer be found in basic and Legendary Supply Boxes, but it can be found as ground loot, in containers, and in white Stronghold Supply Boxes.

This emphasizes looting during a match rather than solely completing contracts to rack up Cash. Be sure to search every Supply Box, Duffel Bag, Locker and other containers to maximize Cash gains during matches.

It’s You and Me: 1v1 Gulag Returns

Season 02 sees the return of the 1v1 Gulag. In this iteration, the Jailer’s out; it’s just you and the enemy player, with the return of the Domination-style control point as the overtime mechanic.

Operators will skirmish in an edited version of the current Gulag map that’s better suited for 1v1 combat. Expect new ground loot and spawning Loadouts, including Assault Rifles, SMGs, and LMGs that change as the match progresses. Shotguns have been removed from the rotation.

Here’s our advice for this updated Gulag:

  • Practice makes perfect. Head into Call of Duty®: Modern Warfare® II Multiplayer and try out a variety of Primary Weapons within those categories to learn their strengths and weaknesses. Although Operator health differs between Multiplayer and Battle Royale, learning how to control each weapon’s recoil and knowing their range can be crucial to surviving the Gulag.
  • Chuck those ’nades. Remember that a Gulag Loadout also includes Lethal and Tactical Equipment. Use it to slightly damage or disorient opponents before dealing the eliminating blow with whatever given weapon.
  • More Cash: The Gulag now spawns Cash as ground loot to reward players who move around. If you can stall your opponent long enough, take time to pick up those stacks of Cash to make it easier to rebuild that Loadout on the redeploy. Also, Season 02 pays out a larger Cash reward to Gulag winners, so every W counts!

More Coming to Ashika Island Throughout the Season

New Contract: Search and Seizure (In-Season)

In Search and Seizure, Operators are tasked with tracking down a stolen vehicle taken by the Shadow Company. Get to its location marked on the minimap, take its key from one of the nearby guards, and navigate the vehicle to the designated area. It’s a risky venture, but the rewards will set you up for success later in the match.

New Public Event: Data Heist (In-Season)

In Ashika Island’s new Data Heist Public Event, a trio of uplink stations activate around the map during the second circle collapse. Approach a station to hack it for rewards. Prepare to defend your position against Shadow Company forces; eliminating them will speed up the hacking process. A successful hack rewards XP, Cash, and a random piece of Tactical Equipment.

Hacking a second and third uplink station will result in greater rewards, including Killstreaks. Operators can disrupt the hacking process as well by usingthe DDoS Field Upgrade and by directly contesting the area around the uplink station.

Get Around Fast with Redeploy Drones (In-Season)

Reposition quickly by using the new Redeploy Drones set for deployment during Season 02. Interact with a drone to hook up a cable and launch toward a distant location. Operators can reposition around the cable in preparation for launch, offering flexibility in where you land.

Some drones will reposition to a safe area when encircled in the gas. Note that the drones’ high-tech build makes them vulnerable to lock-on missiles; a well-timed shot may eliminate an enemy Operator attempting to escape the area.

New Combatant: Rusher (In-Season)

Prepare to encounter a new class of AI combatant: the Rusher. Lightly armored and highly mobile, the Rusher combines a short sword and pistol paired with smoke grenades for distraction. Their low armor makes them vulnerable, so don’t let them get in close. Rushers will appear in Resurgence Battle Royale under certain conditions, such as during a Data Heist.

General Changes

Faster Looting, Streamlined Backpack

The inventory system is shifting away from menus and back to floating loot that will drop out of containers as it does from Supply Boxes. This reduces the time spent navigating the UI, so you can move on from collecting resources more quickly.

To better define each Operator’s role within the match, Medium and Large Backpacks will no longer be found in the environment. The limited space reduces the impact of stacking medical supplies, Equipment, and Killstreaks so that the decisions you make on what to carry remain impactful throughout the match.

Customizable Perks, Get Your Loadouts Faster

Season 02 introduces customizable Perk Packages. At first, a limited supply of Perks will be available to ensure proper balance and viability. Try different combinations of Perks to see which ones work best in different situations.

There are also some upcoming changes to how players obtain their Loadouts in the match. Primary Weapons can be purchased at Buy Stations at a more affordable price, and the cost of Loadout Drop Markers has also been reduced. Furthermore, a second Loadout Drop Public Event will activate in the match, taking place in the first and fifth circles.

Deploy in a 3-Plate Vest

All players will now begin their Battle Royale matches with a 3-Plate Vest. Varying vest sizes will no longer be part of the loot pool, so you can focus purely on looting Armor Plates to keep your vest topped off between fights.

Players will additionally gain a slight movement speed increase while inserting Armor Plates, which means you can sprint through doors while plating. These changes help get you to safety more quickly.

Buy Station Adjustments

Spawn locations for Buy Stations are being adjusted in Season 02, and these spawns will be consistent from match to match. Furthermore, all Buy Stations will have an unlimited stock of Loadout Drop Markers.

Stronghold Reward Tuning

Season 02 brings changes to the rewards Operators will earn upon completing Strongholds or Black Sites, as well as adjustment to AI combatant damage.

DMZ OVERVIEW

  • Ashika Island Comes to DMZ. Infiltrate Ashika Island and complete all new Faction Missions.
  • Balance Changes to Enemies, Spawn Points, Missions. Embark on new Faction Missions that explore all three DMZ Exclusion Zones. Balance changes to AI Combatants, spawn points, and Faction Missions offer a more streamlined match experience.
  • A New Faction for Modern Warfare® II Players. Players who have purchased Modern Warfare II will have access to an exclusive DMZ Faction called Crown.

New Exclusion Zone: Ashika Island

Infiltrate Ashika Island, the third Exclusion Zone to be added to DMZ after Al Mazrah and Building 21. Unlike Building 21, which requires that you first acquire a keycard, Ashika Island can be chosen as your DMZ destination at any time.

Infiltrating Ashika Island will be crucial to faction progress, with multiple missions across all factions involving Operators who must perform tasks on the island. However, you can also complete more generic missions that do not require deployment to a specific region on the island. If you find more success in eliminating enemies and gathering items on here compared to other exclusion zones, then feel free to drop back in here and use the new space to your advantage.

Each player additionally begins the season with a fresh slate. Though you’ll retain any permanent items you unlocked in the previous season, all earned Contraband and Keys will be reset from the inventory. Season 01 Faction Missions will be reset to make room for the new Season 02 Faction Missions, tasking players with assignments across all three Exclusion Zones.

For more information about this reset, read Infinity Ward’s DMZ blog here.

DMZ Tuning

  • Enemy Tuning: AI Combatants will receive some balance adjustments in the new season that alter the number and types of AI you’ll encounter, and there will be changes to their ranged accuracy and other abilities. This should help prevent players from becoming overwhelmed while still providing a challenge.
  • Spawn Points: Changes to the starting spawns around Al Mazrah should improve the opening minutes of the round, ensuring your squad never spawns too far from loot and contract opportunities.
  • Faction Mission Reset and Tuning: Season 02 introduces all-new Faction Missions, as well as some tuning to their requirements. While later missions will still be challenging, the tasks won’t be quite as demanding as in the first season, making each player’s journey to unlock the second Insured Weapon Slot more manageable.

Modern Warfare II Exclusive DMZ Faction

Owners of Modern Warfare II will gain access to missions from an exclusive new DMZ faction: Crown.

In addition to learning about this new faction’s place in the overall DMZ story, completing their missions allows you to earn new rewards like weapon blueprints and operator skins.

GENERAL OVERVIEW (ALL MODES)

  • Path of the Ronin. Complete seven challenges along the Path of the Ronin event to earn exclusive Season 02 rewards.
  • UI/UX Updates. Expect improvements to the user interface and experience, and other general tuning and balance changes to improve the Warzone 2.0 experience.

Al Mazrah POI Updates

The main Warzone 2.0 map will have a few updates as part of Season 02…

Intel from Al Mazrah indicate that a downed aircraft has been spotted north of Sa’id City, while enemy reinforcements have gone underground, resulting in a subterranean cave network between multiple points of interest in the North. Also, we are confirming reports of a train being recommissioned, and ready for passengers, on the main railroad line in the region.

Downed Plane at Sattiq Cave

Veterans of the Call of Duty franchise may have felt the outdoor space within the Sattiq Cave region looked familiar before Season 02, and the upcoming change to this point of interest all but confirms those suspicions.

For those who do not know the tactical strategies needed, the new downed plane offers a great amount of cover in between the large cave openings, houses, and bunkers. Use it to cut-off sightlines from snipers around the area, or as a place to reload before reengaging.

New Underground Cave Network

Whether you played Battle Royale or DMZ during this past season, you may have noticed the space between Rohan Oil and Taraq Village was only populated by military camps, hills, and small homes. With the Season 02 update, a new network of caves will be open, giving Operators an additional option for getting around this part of the map by foot.

The network has five distinct entrances; some are straight drop-downs, such as one tucked within a garage, while others are cave openings. Be mindful of equipment and Killstreak traps around these entry and exit points, or set some up of your own to prevent a trailing squad from following your path.

All of this new space also means there is a chance for Supply Boxes and other loot to spawn within this network. When travelling through the nearby major point of interests, consider taking a detour through here if that loadout or backpack is looking light.

New Passenger Train

The freight train is no longer the only locomotive rolling along Al Mazrah’s major rail network.

The passenger train will offer yet another quicker way of travelling around the map and stocking up on items, including through Legendary Supply Boxes that could be found within its sleeper, bar, and normal passenger cars. Unlike the freight train, all cars on this locomotive are covered with only a few allowing for access via open skylights on the roof.

Travelling through the cars on this train is also different compared to doing so on the freight train, as it involves opening the doors in between each one. Take the extra second to “peek” by slowly opening the doors if you want to stealthily engage Operators in the other cars, or barge straight through while plating up for an aggressive start to the ensuing fight.

Walk the Path of the Ronin

The Path of the Ronin Season 02 event launches with three challenges that can be completed in Modern Warfare II Multiplayer or Warzone 2.0.

The first three challenges include:

Integrity
Multiplayer: Win 15 matches in any Multiplayer game mode.
Warzone 2.0: Get five Top 10 finishes.

Advice: Get a great squad going — either with existing friends or by using the new social features — to tally up those wins in no time.

Honor
Multiplayer: Get 100 objective defense kills.
Warzone 2.0: Collect your dog tag (Restore Honor) 5 times.

Advice: For Multiplayer Operators, Hardpoint can be a great game mode to sit on the point and eliminate enemies. As for Restoring Honor, it only needs to be done five times; do it only when you are certain enemies are not nearby and ready to pounce.

Sincerity
Multiplayer: Get 50 kills using Battle Rage.
Warzone 2.0: Complete five Assassination Contracts.

Advice: Close-quarters weapons, such as SMGs and Shotguns, are natural fits for Battle Rage. For Assassination Contracts, try playing in squad-based game modes; if anyone on the squad earns the elimination, it counts toward this challenge’s progress.

Expect more challenges to activate throughout the season, each gifting unique rewards upon completion, whether you perform the assigned Multiplayer or Battle Royale task. Complete all seven in either Warzone 2.0 or Modern Warfare II to unlock the Crossbow!

UI/UX Updates, More in Patch Notes

A number of UI/UX updates will launch with Season 02, improving the overall flow of in-game menus. These changes include improved navigation and organization of the Camo menu, a more polished Social tab, quick equip items from the Battle Pass and Store Bundles, and more.

Keep an eye out for the Season 02 patch notes, which will go into more detail on general changes, including crash and stability improvements, audio adjustments, weapon balance, and more.

Upgrade to Modern Warfare II, Get Rewarded in Warzone 2.0

Purchase Modern Warfare II to get access to content across three modes, as well as the ability to unlock 14 exclusive Operators across both games and other ways to quickly level up the available 30 Weapon Platforms and over 50 Weapons through Multiplayer and Special Ops.

Modern Warfare II owners also get access to the new DMZ faction, Crown, as well as Premium XP while playing Warzone 2.0 — at the end of each match, owners will receive additional XP on top of any earned match XP.

WARZONE 2.0 OVERVIEW

  • Resurgence Mode Returns with New Warzone Map. Ashika Island welcomes all warriors willing to fight for honor and glory, as well as those who have a trained eye for secrets hidden in plain sight.
  • New Contract, Public Event, and More. Hijack a stolen vehicle from Shadow Company forces, hack into uplink stations, and attempt to discover all the secrets that this island may hold…
  • DMZ Expands to Ashika Island. The power struggle continues across a new Exclusion Zone with plenty of new threats to face and a clean slate for all Operators, who will have the opportunity to earn new permanent reward and Contraband.

Welcome to Ashika Island

Resurgence gets a new front: a compact, Japanese-themed map called Ashika Island, which is roughly 30% larger than previous small maps.

Developed by High Moon Studios, Ashika Island is a centuries-old village currently under siege by Shadow Company forces. After dropping in through the mist, Operators can navigate an ancient shipwreck and ruins, modern apartments and town center, a sprawling beach club, a bustling port, an organic farm, or the fortified castle that looms over the entire island. They may even discover plenty of rooftop pathways or the underground waterway networks that can be used for stealthier maneuvers.

Learn more about Ashika Island in a deep-dive blog here.

Resurgence Mode Returns with New Map

Ashika Island is the perfect size for Resurgence, a frenetic game mode returning from the original Call of Duty®: Warzone™.

Available for all squad sizes – Solos, Duos, Trios, and Quads – within regular Playlist updates throughout the season, Resurgence allows for multiple respawns as long as one squad member is still standing.

In this mode, if a squad member is eliminated while one or more squad members are still alive, a countdown will appear beside their name. When this countdown hits zero, they will redeploy to the DZ. This countdown can be shortened by your squadmates if they perform specific in-game actions such as eliminating enemies, which incentivizes aggressive play. This countdown grows longer with each circle collapse until the final few circles — where all redeploys, save for those bought through a Buy Station — are disabled.

The last squad standing wins no matter how many redeploys they needed to stay in the match, so be prepared for a relentless battle.

New Feature: Restore Honor (Launch, Resurgence)

On Ashika Island, it takes incredible courage to return to where you once fell in battle, courage that is worthy of some valuable rewards.

Every Operator on Ashika Island will drop a dog tag upon death once per match (Resurgence or Battle Royale), which can either be picked up by a squadmate or themselves after redeploying. Doing so grants a small Cash reward, as well as a single UAV ping that marks both enemy threats and nearby Supply Boxes.

Whether it is finding out who downed a squadmate or getting a head start on rebuilding a Loadout, choosing to Restore Honor is a solid strategy for continued survival.

New Contract: Search and Seizure (In-Season, Resurgence)

In addition to contracts originally in Battle Royale modes like Safecracker and Bounty, Ashika Island will have an additional contract — Search and Seizure — to take up for Cash and other in-match rewards. It is expected to go live in-season.

Search and Seizure involves reclaiming a stolen vehicle — either an SUV or a Patrol Boat — from Shadow Company forces somewhere on the island. After you accept the contract, the vehicle’s approximate location is revealed on the minimap and as a marker in the overworld.

Operators must neutralize any Shadow Company forces guarding the vehicle, then pick up the key dropped by one of the soldiers and get the vehicle safely to its designated drop-off point. Expect heavy resistance en route to this destination, as the Shadow Company has been rumored to have their hands on some powerful hardware, ready to repel Operators venturing onto the isle…

New Public Event: Data Heist (In-Season, Resurgence)

Intel is power, especially during a Data Heist, a new exclusive Public Event on Ashika Island.

During the second circle collapse, three uplink stations will come online around the map, allowing players to download critical intel from them. In exchange for valuable in-match rewards, squads can hack into and stand near the uplink station to gain this intel, but they will face resistance from Shadow Company combatants guarding these precious machines.

Download progress can be sped up by eliminating these combatants, while other Operators can halt progress through contesting the station area directly or using a DDOS Field Upgrade.

Successfully completing a download rewards XP, Cash, and a random piece of Tactical Equipment. Squads that visit two or three uplink stations and successfully download their intel will receive increased rewards, such as a random Killstreak or even an Advanced UAV.

Additional New Features

Season 02 will include several notable changes to Warzone 2.0, including an updated Gulag that will host 1v1 duels, changes to armor plate vests and backpacks in Battle Royale, customizable Perk Packages in Loadouts, and more.

You can read more about these updates in Infinity Ward’s Blog here.

In addition to these updates, a few new and returning features are also coming to the game:

Redeploy Drones (In-Season, Resurgence)

Redeploy Drones, the high-tech successor to the Redeploy Balloons you first used on Caldera, are the high-risk, high-reward way to reposition around Ashika Island, to be deployed during Season 02.

To use a Redeploy Drone, simply hook a cable up to the drone via interaction. After ascending to where the drone is hovering in the sky, an Operator will be launched in the direction they are facing, allowing them to parachute down safely to a distant location. While ascending, Operators can rotate around the cable to best position themselves for launch, and they can hip-fire weapons and detach at any point.

These new drones have a few differences compared to the Redeploy Balloons: notably, they can relocate to a safe area after a short period if they are within the circle collapse. Only a certain number of drones will reposition with each circle collapse, with all drones going out of commission after several circle collapses have occurred.

On the downside, their high-tech nature makes them easy targets for lock-on missiles, and they are too expensive for an Operator to replace. Instead, new drones will fly in after a short time if there is an available safe location to hover over.

New Combatant: Rusher (In-Season, Resurgence)

So far, AI Combatants are all about dealing damage from a distance, unless otherwise provoked to swing wildly with the butt of their gun. During Season 02, a new type of Combatant joins their ranks to fulfill that extreme close-quarters combat (CQB) role: the Rusher.

The Rusher may not have much in terms of health or armor, but what they lack in defense they make up for in increased agility and a deadly short sword. This adversary also packs a pistol in case a target is unreachable for a melee attack, as well as mini smoke bombs to use for repositioning.

Rushers are meant to be downed just as quickly as they sprint, especially in confined and indoor spaces where they are most effective. Expect them to hit the ground running in Resurgence mode, with AI only appearing under certain conditions such as during a Data Heist.

Discover the Secrets of Ashika Island

Like previous smaller-sized Warzone maps, Ashika Island has its own secrets for Operators to uncover. Use all of your senses and be curious during Resurgence matches, and you may just stumble upon some Legendary Supply Boxes or other items that can help you toward victory.

DMZ Expansion to Ashika Island, New Crown Faction

From the first missions of Al Mazrah to the uncovering of Building 21, the new DMZ experience has significantly evolved thanks to a growing community committed to building up that Contraband stash and reading every last bit of intel gathered.

In Season 02, Operators will begin their journey again with a new Exclusion Zone to infiltrate: Ashika Island.

As mentioned in Infinity Ward’s blog, Season 02 will see DMZ experience its first reset, allowing all Operators to start with a clean slate while keeping all permanent content they earned in Season 01, along with their Insured Weapon Slots.

Following the reset, a new faction known as Crown, available to Modern Warfare II owners, will add additional intrigue alongside a refresh of familiar missions and their rewards, granting Operators new permanent unlocks like Operator Skins and Weapon Blueprints as well as Contraband.

Operators will be able to complete missions either back in Al Mazrah, within Building 21 if they have keycard access, or by infiltrating Ashika Island. This new map will be central to the experience’s continued narrative, and other new features like Boss Hideouts to test even the most seasoned Operators.

New Boss – Bombmaker – and Weapons Case on Ashika Island

The one who rules over Ashika Island knows how Operators will infiltrate the Exclusion Zone and will be more than prepared to defend his domain by any means necessary.

The Bombmaker’s location is currently unknown, but Operators will be able to find him somewhere on Ashika Island. He holds a new Weapons Case for Season 02, which contains all-new permanent rewards for Operators to flaunt within and outside of DMZ.

Note: Al Mazrah and Building 21’s Weapons Cases will remain the same for Season 02, so be sure to grab those too if you have not extracted all 13 of those rewards.

More information on DMZ, including how to access Building 21, is detailed in Infinity Ward’s blog here.

Points of Interest Updates in Al Mazrah

Intel from Al Mazrah indicate that a downed aircraft has been spotted north of Sa’id City, with plumes of thick, black smoke visible from the summit above the Sattiq Caves Complex. Enemy reinforcements have [[REDACTED]], resulting in a subterranean [[REDACTED]] between multiple points of interest in the North. Also, we are confirming reports of [[REDACTED]] being recommissioned, and ready for passengers, on the main [[REDACTED]] in the region.

Given the amount of existing reconnaissance in this release, this intel will be declassified as part of a Tactical Overview to be released tomorrow.

MODERN WARFARE II OVERVIEW

  • Prove Your Skills in Ranked Play. Built off previous iterations, Modern Warfare II Ranked Play offers plenty of rewards and bragging rights to those most dedicated to being the best Operator in Multiplayer.
  • Two Core Maps, Two Battle Maps. Battlegrounds in Al Mazrah and Spain will be ready for Multiplayer infiltrations at Season 02 launch.
  • A Half-Dozen Modes. Infected, Gun Game, and Grind to be available at launch. Drop Zone, One in the Chamber, and All or Nothing set to start the party in season. Also, the return of Hardcore.

Get Ready for Ranked Play

Those who claim to be the best in Modern Warfare II Multiplayer will have to prove it in Ranked Play, a new Multiplayer experience built in collaboration with Treyarch and the Call of Duty League.

This feature-packed, stand-alone competitive Multiplayer mode uses CDL-approved rules, restrictions, maps, and modes all while rewarding players with exclusive items and visible skill ranks to show off with pride. Work your way up through seven Skill Divisions — from Bronze to Iridescent — all the way to the Top 250, where your name will be displayed on a special Top 250 leaderboard. Earn Skill Division Skins based on your highest rank for that Season, including a set for finishing a Season in the Gold Division or above for the first time, as well as unique rewards given out each season.

As you fight to increase that Skill Rating (SR), you also climb through a separate set of Ranked Play Ranks (1–50); this does not reset with each season. Everyone starts at Rank 1 and can climb towards Rank 50 by winning matches to earn Stars, with each win equaling one Star earned. Every 5 Ranks will update the player's Rank icon and award a set of exclusive Ranked Play rewards, including Skins at Rank 5 and Rank 50 - along with other rewards.

Stay tuned for a dedicated Ranked Play blog detailing these rewards, the ranking system, and more.

Four Maps for Multiplayer at Launch

Core Mode and Ground War Operators, get ready to deploy to more locales around Al Mazrah and Spain in Season 02:

Dome (Core Map)

Located at the highest point in Al Mazrah, Dome bears a striking resemblance to one of Call of Duty®’s classic maps.

This small- to medium-sized map is built for fast-paced combat with three main buildings surrounding a central street area. One of these is the iconic domed structure, which has a small catwalk that provides incredible views over most of the map’s outdoor spaces.

However, just know that the metal grates on that catwalk can be easily shot through, and sidearms can be used on ladders.

Zaya Observatory (Battle Map)

Zaya Observatory will be available in Ground War and Invasion modes, where the combat area will be expanded to fit all of Al Mazrah’s tallest natural point of interest.

The Battle Map version encompasses the entire science facility and adjacent cliff sides. Observant operators will find solace along the mountain side flank routes. While a narrow space for vehicles, tanks and other armored vehicles can be used to effectively hold critical choke points. With main thoroughfares cut off, infantry should resort to navigating the facility buildings to bypass any vehicle obstructions. For when you have no other option but to sprint across an exposed road, be sure to keep smokes equipped to deter any rooftop sniper fire.

Those skills learned from Battle Royale, DMZ, and the Special Ops mission Defender: Mt. Zaya more than apply to this Ground War map.

Al Malik International (Battle Map)

Located at the southern tip of Al Mazrah, this modern airport mixes traditional and modern architecture to host both business and leisure activities, and will be available in Ground War and Invasion Modes.

The Battle Map version of this locale comprises of the tarmac and main airport building, allowing Operators to take hold in all the familiar spaces within the Terminal or take to the roof for more advantageous angles. Meanwhile, those looking for vehicular combat have plenty of runway to use for getting around the Battle Map quickly.

Similar to the Zaya Observatory map, not much is different between this Battle Map and the point of interest within Battle Royale or DMZ, save for the boundaries to keep matches focused within this area. Use those sightlines and other tricks from past experiences, and you will be more than ready for takeoff.

Valderas Museum (Core Map)

The other Core map launching at the start of Season 02 is Valderas Museum, returning since first appearing in the Modern Warfare II Beta.

Infected, Gun Game Headline Returning Modes

Modern Warfare II Multiplayer is getting a half-dozen modes that veterans of the Call of Duty franchise know as some of the greatest hits over the past two decades. Plus, the return of Hardcore:

Infected (Launch)

Ever since Call of Duty®: Modern Warfare 3 (2011), this mode is known for being infectious fun.

In Infected, Operators must avoid the chosen Infected player at all costs. Every survivor eliminated joins the Infected team until none remain or until the five-minute time period elapses.

Jump into this game mode with friends or make some of your own in the 18-person lobby… Just don’t get too attached to those who may wind up joining the infected ranks!

Gun Game (Launch)

One of three party game modes launching in season, Gun Game is a competition of overall gun skill. Every ranged elimination awards a different weapon, while melee eliminations put your opponent one weapon back on the 18-weapon rotation. Show off your prowess with a variety of weapon categories, then finish the job with a Throwing Knife to win.

Grind (Launch)

The third mode whose roots trace back to Modern Warfare 3, Grind is Kill Confirmed with an added twist: enemy dog tags are stackable and must be banked at one of two fixed locations.

Bank multiple dog tags at once to maximize point gains, but be sure to stay alive to avoid giving the enemy a ton of tags!

Hardcore (Launch)

As previously announced, the Hardcore playlist will return in place of the Tier 1 playlist at the start of Season 02.

The initial Hardcore playlist will feature a mix of traditional modes with the classic ruleset veterans of the franchise are familiar with, including decreased health that cannot be replenished outside of Stim shots, as well as a limited HUD.

Whether you appreciate a more realistic FPS experience or want a place to hit those Longshots for Platinum Camos, head into Hardcore and be sure to watch your six.

Drop Zone (In-Season)

Care Package lovers, look no further.

Drop Zone is another classic mode that debuted in Modern Warfare 3. A derivative of Hardpoint, Drop Zone sends a Care Package down into occupied Drop Zone areas every 15 seconds.

Perfect for those wanting to ramp up their Killstreak elimination numbers or who just love pure chaos, expect this to be among the modes available in weekly Playlist rotations at launch.

All or Nothing (In-Season)

With only Throwing Knives and a pistol with no ammo, can you rack up 20 eliminations to win this special Free-for-All party game mode? Every Operator get additional Perks starting with Scavenger, which allows for ammo pickups after the first elimination. Like other party game modes, feel free to bring the squad in or make new “friends” in the lobby.

One in the Chamber (In-Season)

As the name implies, every Operator gets a handgun with one bullet in the chamber for this Free-for-All variant. Every elimination awards an additional bullet, and Operators only have three respawns. Ensure your aim is true and practice good trigger discipline; the Operator with the most eliminations wins.

Raid Episode 2 Coming Mid-Season

Atomgrad was just the beginning.

Price, Farah, and Gaz will be back later in Season 02 with Episode 2 of the Raid, a continuation of the Modern Warfare II Campaign.

Prepare to squad up for whatever gauntlet lies ahead — even if it means finding unlikely allies to help tie up those loose ends.

GENERAL OVERVIEW

  • Path of the Ronin Season Challenges. Complete challenges in Warzone 2.0 or Modern Warfare II to earn rewards, including a new functional weapon.
  • Ronin Returns with an Arsenal. Vanquish your opponents like a true warrior with this new Operator and five new weapons during the Season, three of which are available for free in the Battle Pass.
  • New Personal Watercraft Vehicle. Engage in fast-paced aquatic combat utilizing the new aquatic vehicle.

Walk the Path of the Ronin: Launch Event

Following the way of the warrior will lead to the spoils of war.

At the beginning of Season 02, the Path of the Ronin Challenges will present all Operators with seven challenges to be completed in Warzone 2.0 or Modern Warfare II based on the Seven Virtues of Bushido: Integrity, Respect, Courage, Honor, Compassion, Sincerity, and Loyalty. Each challenge comes with a reward for completion, such as a Gun Screen or a Weapon Charm.

Complete all seven challenges in Warzone 2.0 or Modern Warfare II and get the new Crossbow functional weapon.

Five New Weapons, Three in Battle Pass

New armaments and returning favorites highlight the weaponry to be available in Season 02 at launch and in-season. Get three of these new weapons through the Season 02 Battle Pass and the remaining two through seasonal challenges.

ISO Hemlock Assault Rifle — ISO Platform (Launch, Battle Pass)

A powerful and enhanced rifle from Expedite Firearms is designed to take both 5.56 and subsonic .300 BLK ammunition, providing battlefield-advantage in any situation.

How to unlock: Free weapon within the Season 02 Battle Pass.

KV Broadside Shotgun — Kastov Platform (Launch, Battle Pass)

Bringing the power of the 12 gauge to the Kastov Platform, the KV Broadside is the fastest-firing semi-auto firearm in the shotgun class. Destroys targets at close range with impunity.

How to unlock: Free weapon within the Season 02 Battle Pass.

Dual Kodachis Melee Weapon (Launch)

A powerful melee weapon that can quickly move towards a target with a longer-range attack. Each swipe has an impressive range and faster forward motion towards enemies compared to the Knife melee weapon, though this comes at a slight cost, a slower strafe and sprint speed.

How to unlock: Free weapon within the Season 02 Battle Pass.

Crossbow (Marksman Rifle Category) (Launch Window)

Silent and agile, this high-performance crossbow fires 20.0” bolts with exceptional lethality. Exclusive customization, distinct functionality, and unique ammunition types put this weapon in a class of its own. Standard 20.0” bolts are recoverable, and are undetected by trophy systems.

How to unlock: Complete all seven Path of the Ronin Event challenges, or purchase via Store Bundle.

Also expect a new Marksman Rifle – the Tempus Torrent – to be available at midseason, as well as a new lethal equipment piece, the Shuriken.

Remember: each new weapons comes with a brand-new set of camos to unlock for use across all your weapons. Expect well over a dozen new camos to be available to unlock by the end of Season 02.

New Personal Watercraft Vehicle

Complementing the armored Patrol Boat and the midsized RHIB, the Personal Watercraft (PWC) is a nimble seacraft capable of swiftly carrying up to two Operators across any body of water in Ashika Island or Al Mazrah.

Consider the PWC the ATV of the sea: one of the faster ways to get around the map with little protection for its driver and one passenger.

Although it is considerably weak compared to its fellow watercrafts, the PWC’s quick speed makes it a hard target to hit.

Ronin Returns at Launch

A Japanese American who embodies the modern-day warrior, Ronin is the marquee Operator available at the start of Season 02.

Daniel “Ronin” Shinoda (Launch)

Returning from Call of Duty®: Modern Warfare® (2019), Ronin is the ex-Special Forces fighter known for his mastery of multiple fighting styles and unconventional warfare.

His name comes from the rough translation of “wanderer,” which came about during the feudal era of Japan when a samurai had no master. Forging his own path, Ronin is a known saboteur who can pick apart foreign defense systems and perform special reconnaissance like no other Operator can.

From the ashes of ARMISTICE, Ronin took it upon himself to maintain balance between different factions as their wars spilled over into Urzikstan and Al-Mazrah. Living by a new code of honor, Ronin found a new master he can serve, one that cannot be corrupted: balance, itself.

Prestige: Level Up to Rank 500

Time to put those Double XP tokens to good use.

At the start of Season 02, the Prestige Rank cap will be increased to Prestige 10, with the level cap increased to 500. Specifically, players can unlock the following new Prestige Ranks, which come with a new icon beside their name:

  • Prestige 6: Unlocked at Level 300
  • Prestige 7: Unlocked at Level 350
  • Prestige 8: Unlocked at Level 400
  • Prestige 9: Unlocked at Level 450
  • Prestige 10: Unlocked at Level 500 – this is the maximum level that can be achieved in Season 02.

Each Prestige Rank also unlocks a new set of Challenges. Complete these to earn new Calling Cards, including Animated Calling Cards for completing full sets of Challenges.

As stated previously, all progress will not reset at the beginning of each season. Players will continue ranking up at the level they ended Season 01 at, whether it was before the Prestige Ranks (1-55) or within the Prestige Ranks (56-250).

More information on this Prestige system can be found here.

Combat Record, Leaderboard Update

Warzone 2.0 Combat Records will come online as part of Season 02. The statistics present in the Warzone 2.0 Combat Record will only be from the activation date forward, and will not include statistics from Season 01.

Furthermore, Leaderboards for Modern Warfare II Multiplayer will be online as part of Season 02.

For additional updates, be sure to check the Patch Notes.
