Camp Canyonwood

The Controller Update (Version 0.35)

Welcome to the fourth major Camp Canyonwood update! This month, we finally buckled down to give y'all something we've been wanting to add for a while - Controller Support! In addition, we've continued fleshing out existing features and adding new ones such as a brand new fast travel option! Check out the full feature list below:

New Features

Controller Support

The much-awaited option to use Gamepads is finally here! With the sole exception of typing in your name and custom notes (which should come in due time), Camp Canyonwood is now fully playable with a controller, menus and all! You can even swap between keyboard and controller setups at will!

This was a hefty feature to implement, and as such we don't expect to have gotten everything perfect out of the gate, so let us know if you run into any issues as you play on your gamepad of choice and we'll be sure to address any kinks as soon as possible! We will continue fleshing out this feature as development continues.

NOTE: Natively supported Gamepad types include - Xbox 360, Xbox One, Sony Dualshock 4, and Nintendo Switch Pro Controller.

Fast-Travel Bonfires

A mysterious new type of Campfire has appeared in Hooper's Shop, known as the Strange Bonfire! When two or more are placed, these mysterious bonfires will allow you to teleport from one to another, letting you supernaturally blip across camp in no time at all!

Functional Watch Towers

Watch Towers are now no longer just for show! Now, when approaching a Watch Tower you'll be given the option to enter it and from your vantage point, take a look at what each camper is up to at this very moment using swappable Camper Views!

Musical Loudspeakers

Loudspeakers also received an upgrade this update! Now, when approaching a Loudspeaker you have the option to turn it on and make it play music for the enjoyment of any camper around it. Music will steadily increase campers' Fun when they are within listening radius.

With this feature comes two brand new original tracks from our composer David Johnsen!

Additionally, if you hear anything strange playing on the loudspeakers during the day, maybe be sure to keep your campers indoors that night.

Changes and Fixes

  • Removed "Camper Dislikes" in the interest of removing tedium/confusion from the camper management mechanics. While we're sad to see it go, we think this will create a much smoother experience while still retaining incentives for learning a campers' favorite activities.
  • Many Food items can now restore Fun! Less healthy food such as Marshmallows or Candy won't do much to restore Energy, but they sure can help cheer up a bored Camper!
  • You may notice new Mysterious Strangers have appeared across camp! These mustachioed fellows might somewhat resemble the camp's local trailer-dwelling conspiracy theorist Hooper, but they'll assure you that they are completely different people.
  • Fixed an issue where players were able to scroll past slot 9 in their tool bar hot selection, throwing out of range errors.

Patch Notes (Version 0.302)

  • Added a fix for cases where the day end sequence was getting stuck due to an out of range exception caused by a piece of deprecated code.

Camp Canyonwood Wins Artistic Achievement Award!

Howdy campers,

We're honored to announce that Camp Canyonwood won for Artistic Achievement at the 7th annual Utah Game Developers Choice Awards! The choice awards are held by the Utah chapter of the International Game Developers Association to promote and celebrate the great work done by game developers in the Beehive State.

A huge thanks to the IGDA for recognizing our efforts with this award! During Early Access we'll continue our award-winning artistic work to create the best game we can!

Cheers,
The Camp Canyonwood Team

The Management Update (Version 0.3)

Welcome to the third major Camp Canyonwood update! This past couple of months we've been taking the time to address the community's most major concerns. Consider this the first major Quality of Life update, if you will. It's our hope that this month's changes will make the game more welcoming for newcomers and veterans alike, and will hopefully reduce a lot of the anti-fun friction! Take a look!

New Features

Administration Desk

Introducing The Administration Desk item! Using state-of-the-art 90s computer technology, this buildable item lets you access several administrative functions! In the Equip Menu you can access your campers' inventories all at once, and in the Structures Shop, you can purchase all large structures for your camp! In future, we hope to add even more useful features to this desk, such as Camp Data screens.

The Administration Desk can be purchased after completing Vernon's third donation quest.

Camper Equip Menu

At the end of each day, or else anytime via The Administration Desk, you can now access a new menu that allows you to equip all of your campers with anything available in the camp's handy Tool Shed! We hope this will make inventory management easier each day and gives an opportunity to schedule the next day's activities!

Shops Overhaul

All Shops now have a brand new look, designed to be easier to navigate and to be more informational! It displays a better, more detailed look at each available item, and includes a list of properties for each item, letting you know its various uses in-game, such as whether it's cookable, edible, buildable, etc! The new UI also displays how many items are left to be unlocked in a given shop!

Auto To-Dos

Your To-Do list just got a lot more automated! Now whenever a staff member or a camper makes a request, a To-Do note is automatically generated and pinned on your screen for your convenience!

NOTE: These types of notes will be checked off automatically once completed.

Changes and Fixes

  • Implemented extensive rework of the item systems, which will allow for easier item implementation in future updates, and will result in fewer implementation bugs in general!
  • Implemented extensive rework of the loot and luck systems, which will allow for quicker and easier balancing changes in future!
  • Implemented extensive rework of the inventory systems, which will allow for new features such as sub-inventories in future!
  • Doubled the starting inventory size for the player, now with 18 slots available for early game management!
  • Added many new sound effects to give feedback for many different activities, UI, and animations. (Bridge Repair Sounds, Hit Noises, Rustling, Menu Screen Buttons, Falling Asleep, Alien Chittering, etc)
  • Reworked tutorial to include new tasks requiring players to learn how to earn badges, introducing the player to each staff member, and learning how to obtain food through Pam.
  • Added many new tip displays for features such as Badges, Dangerous Wildlife, Texting, Day Planning, and Broken Bridges.
  • Adjusted text on nearly all tips for clarity and brevity.
  • Removed floating stat icons from campers.
  • Reworked/re-balanced camper star scoring system to include bonuses for fulfilling camper requests.
  • Adjusted base camper score from 3 stars to 1 at the start of each summer.
  • Removed/moved much of the logging from on-screen notifications to reduce overall notification noise. Many of the logs can still be seen in the raw activity log (lower left corner).
  • Changed/added new "affirmation logs", which are simply green text notifications to let players know when they've done something good for the camp or the campers.
  • Fixed many instances of incorrect footstep sounds playing.
  • Adjusted loot tables for all currently available fishing spots to only include fish appropriate for the current biome.
  • Fixed loaded items not loading in their texture properly ("pink items" bug)
  • Added signage to broken ramps and bridges.
  • Tips and shops now pause the game while displayed.

Development Update

Howdy Campers,

We’d like to start off by thanking everyone who’s joined us during Early Access. Your support is what keeps us going, and while there are many exciting features on the horizon before our full launch, we couldn’t be more grateful to the folks who have been supporting the game and offering their valuable feedback to help us make Camp Canyonwood the very best it can be. Group hug, anyone?!

Now for an FYI regarding the November update! After listening closely to your feedback on Discord, we’ve decided to expand, rework, and refine our update milestones in order to address the content and systems that matter most to you sooner rather than later. That means that there won’t be a November update, but we’ll have a major update in December with the expanded systems you all crave. We’re taking this extra time to prioritize implementing some quality-of-life improvements in order to give you the best experience possible. We hope you’re as excited as we are!

Just to be clear, skipping the November update doesn’t mean there will be less content overall. The opposite is true! We assure you that your patience will be rewarded. We look forward to continuing to hear from you and, together, making Camp Canyonwood the ideal camping life sim. If you haven’t already, please join the Discord to share your feedback and discuss all things Camp Canyonwood. For more updates, make sure to follow us on Steam.

Cheers,
The Camp Canyonwood Team

The Paranormal Update (Version 0.25)

Welcome to the second of Camp Canyonwood's monthly content updates! This month the campgrounds have just gotten a whole lot spookier. Encounter strange creatures in the woods, hunt ghosts, and decorate your camp to look as spooky as possible!

New Features

Close Encounters

The night is dark and full of spookiness. This month's update adds more than twice as many Ghosts across the campgrounds to discover, who will now give a fright to campers who wander too closely. Additionally, rumor has it that Aliens have taken to scuttling around the Plateau woods on foot on certain nights, but that's totally unsubstantiated.

New Photography Badge Activities

Two new Badge Activities in the form of Paranormal Investigation and Wildlife Photography have been added this month, allowing any camper or counselor with a Camera to try their hand at snapping pictures of the campground's supernatural phenomena at night, or just the local wildlife if you're a normal person! (Though more dangerous creatures are worth more Badge XP!)

Camera available from Hooper after unlocking Hooper's Mystery Museum.

Spooky Decorations

There are 13 new spooky decorations available to customize your camp with! Available from Hooper after unlocking the Mystery Museum, you can now purchase items such as string lights, historical artifacts, spooky signage, cryptid plushies, and more!

Day & Night Spawns

Night activities got a lot more interesting! Only certain things can be found at night now, such as fireflies, moths, bears, and even new natural stargazing spots. Furthermore, certain wildlife will now be exclusively seen during the day, such as snakes and butterflies. The difference should feel, well, like day and night!

Changes and Fixes

  • A new Camper Archetype - "Ghost Kid" has been added!
  • Raccoons will now sometimes rummage through trash cans and empty their contents onto the floor in the process.
  • New evidence has been hidden on the map (found on the Plateaus).
  • New dialogue telling you that Hooper plans to open the museum the first time you meet him.
  • Added a tutorial message for the to-do list, activated the first time you get a Donation Quest.
  • Raccoons now seen mostly at night, and only rarely during the day near trails.
  • Campers can now cry (based on needs) and puke (when poisoned).
  • Poison berries/mushrooms now cause a small health drain over time when eaten.
  • Slowed down campers' movement speed when they are self assigning leisure time.
  • Beehives no longer spawn on the ground and instead will spawn randomly in Birch Trees. Beehives now only aggro when the tree is chopped down.
  • Added 2 potential fixes for campers duplicating tools in the tool shed.
  • Added many new feedback sound FX for campers and counselor (crying, puking, falling, failing, celebrating)
  • Improved Fencing Logic, now fences should be able to realign their neighbors' assets when knocked down.
