Cannon Crew

Alpha 5.6 - Campaign Map, Character Selection and more!

Happy Pancake Day!

How's it going? We've got a list of new things in Cannon Crew! Wow!

Campaign Map

- There's a brand new map in Story Mode!
- Each marker on the map is a Tavern.
- The game saves your story progress in singleplayer and multiplayer (so you can recruit your friends for a few missions and then carry on from that point in singleplayer)

Character Selection

- Hooray! You can now select which character you would like to play as!
- Currently in Alpha 5.6f there are 8 playable characters.
- You start with the 4 regular Cannon Crew characters and the rest are unlockable during the game.

Chasing AI

The chasing AI has had another upgrade!
- Chasers can no longer see through walls.
- You can hide round corners to lose the chasers.
- If a chaser has lost a player they will go to where they last saw one and patrol that area!

New Survival Map

- The new Survival map is called "Crawley Castle"
- 2 separate sides so you are responsible for your own side!
- Ammo spawners are shared so don't steal them all - your team will need some ammo!

Highlights

- In Singleplayer the selected player is now highlighted by a yellow ring around them!

More things! Nice!

- Fire! When a castle is about to be defeated in Castle Battle levels they will start to burn!
- Saying "Thanks" to a Helper while they're firing a cannon or filling up an ammo box will make them stop and go back to their usual jobs.
- Puzzle Menu now displays "Best Times" for each difficulty.
- Best Puzzle times are now saved.
- Now possible to hire 4 helpers from the Taverns!

Alpha 5.5 - Puzzles, Gems and Saves

Greetings!

I hope you're well!

Alpha 5.5 is out now! It's just a little update that will help with future updates.

Here are some of the new things:

- The Puzzle Menu has had a little update, the puzzle levels are now sorted into categories. Simple, Moderate and Tricky.

- Each category has 3 puzzles and is timed.

- The Puzzle Menu now displays your fastest time in each category.

- There is a Steam Achievement for completing each difficulty.

- Gold coins now have a 1/20 chance of being a Gem

- Gems glow and are worth 5 gold each - but don't get too distracted and run out of time!

- Singleplayer Story Mode now saves your carrot intake and cannon upgrades!

Alpha 5.3 - AI Commanding, Win Scene and Tutorials

Hey hey hey!

I hope you're all well!
We've just released Alpha 5.3 for Cannon Crew. Nice!

What's new?

I'm glad you asked! Apart from little bug fixes and additions there have been a few bigger things added to Cannon Crew!

- AI Commanding

You can now command the Helper AI chaps you've hired from the Tavern. This is still very much a work in progress but I wanted to get some feedback and suggestions from you guys.
With a controller you can use the Triggers and Shoulder buttons for the different commands.
If you're playing Singleplayer and using a keyboard you can use numbers 1-4.

The current commands are:
"I need ammo!" - If the nearest helper is holding a cannon ball they will bring it to you.
"Fire the cannons!" - The nearest helpers will go to their cannon and fire it if it's loaded or load and fire it if they're holding ammo.
"Fill the box!" - The nearest helpers will take ammo from the spawners and place them in the nearest box for you to use.
"Thanks!" - This does nothing but it's always good to say thank you!

These commands will only affect the helpers that YOU are nearest, if another player is standing next to a helper they won't listen to you!

- Win Scene

The end of Chapter 1's scene has been completely re-done. I won't ruin anything so I'll just let you play it, complete it and find out!

- Tutorial Loading Screens

The loading screens at the start of the game now display useful tips and controls! Wow!

I'll be pushing a few updates in the next few days which will just be ironing out little bugs in preparation for the Early Access release on 1st February!

Have a great week!

Alpha 5.2 - Out Now! AI Pathfinding update!

Ahoy there!

What's new?

- AI Pathfinding

In this latest update we're testing a new pathfinding system which is used by the enemy guard chaser AI in the Story Mode.

Here is a video showing the "stupid" AI before and how the enemy guards act after the update:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L3v2DJdVevo

- Fullscreen / windowed
You can now change the window mode and resize the window!

- Aesthetic things
Added lens flares when firing cannons and a few lighting effects!

- Level changes
All of the sneaky missions have slightly changed to accommodate the new pathfinding system. There are also a few new secret areas on these missions!

What's coming soon?

- Commanding

At the moment you can hire Helpers from the Tavern who will load ammo boxes and fire cannons. They'll also respond to the "I need ammo!" command if they're currently holding a cannon ball and bring it to the nearest player.

Very soon the Helper AI with also have a similar pathfinding system and we hope to implement a new way of "commanding" the helpers.
This will help mainly in Singleplayer because you'll be able to select what cannons and boxes the AI will use and give new orders like "Fire the cannons!" or "Reload the cannons"

Alpha 5.1 out now! Taverns, New Survival map and more!

Hello!

We've just updated Cannon Crew to Alpha 5.1 - here's a list of some of the new features:

- Taverns
Taverns work as an upgrade screen as well as a checkpoint. You'll be able to upgrade your speed, cannons, vision and hire guards to help defend the castle! These Taverns are currently a work in progress.

- New Survival Map
The second survival map is now playable and is called "Chester Keep" This map features a rather tricky mechanic - a moving cannon that can be controlled by pressing buttons in the room behind. The map is definitely recommended for at least 3 players! But hey, give it a go!

- Darkness
The Infiltration levels or "sneaky levels" are now completely dark apart from the light from torches and the players - be careful, there might be guards hiding in the darkness!

- "I need ammo"
Saying "I need ammo" (Left Trigger on Xbox controller) when near a helper AI who is holding a cannon ball will make that helper bring the ammo to you and players have an option to take the ammo from them.

- Lots of little bug fixes

We're currently working on a map for the campaign so it'll be easier to go back and choose levels you've already completed. In the next update we should have a saving feature working - these saves will carry on over no matter how many players you have (for example, you can complete half the story solo and then finish the rest with a team of 4)
