ːcartel_loveː New Settings for Sandbox! Play around with Market and Events settings! Make them as harsh and frequent as you want or turn them off completely!
ːcartel_loveː Research Tree Search Bar! Find any building or an upgrade using a new search bar!
ːcartel_loveː Character List! Now all of the characters are easily accessible through a menu, not just your Lieutenants! Find Mayors, Gangs, and Special Building Leaders easier!
ːcartel_loveː New Lieutenant Abilities! You can now turn on or off certain Lieutenant Abilities, we’ve added a new one and changed some old ones like "Coordinator"!

- Military Base upkeep changed. We got your feedback that the bonuses from supplying Military Base weren't lasting very long, so we updated their placement and changed how much upkeep the Base is using!
- Updated the Global Goals menu to show you which unlocks you can and can't get with your current settings in the playthrough!
- When you're exporting legal goods through Smuggling Points they no longer will be suspicious! Illegal goods hidden in legal goods can still be found, be aware!
- We made the game a bit harder after the Tutorial ends. Be prepared for the real Cartel Tycoon experience!

[expand type="details"]Hola Capos! It’s me - Andrey! I haven’t seen you since the 1.0 Release, so it’s good to be back with another devlog! And it’s a big one. Our next update - Goals & Gains is coming very soon, so it’s time for you to know what’s inside. Let’s get right into it!


Global Goals. We’ve been hinting about this addition on our socials, and some of you might’ve already figured it out! We’re adding Global Goals to Sandbox Mode - you can choose or simply play without them, but completing a Global Goal will grant you unique goodies - special character skins, for example!
Global Goals differ and you can decide on how to approach them! And if you fail them - don’t worry, you can keep playing your Sandbox game and try again later!


The Logistics. When the game hit 1.0, we got a lot of new players and feedback about the logistics part of the game. So we’ve been working on improving it since the release. There are a lot of changes under the hood but with the new system in place, there no longer should be a situation when one of your Workshops is loaded with products and the other ones sit empty. We’ve also adjusted how Residencies distribute Dirty Money between production and city buildings!

New Events. With this update, we’re also adding new events that can happen in your game! For example, Building Events that can affect your production, adding more variety to the process. Also, we’re adding Enemy Gang Events - some of which will require a hard choice to make but will spice up your interactions with Gang Leaders and introduce players to some Gang Mechanics they weren’t using before. Did you already know that you can talk to the Gang Leader to better your relationship? With new Gang Events, you certainly will!

Saving and Loading times. With the 1.0 Release, a lot of you pointed out that the game sometimes takes too long to save. Since the release, we’ve been optimizing and rewriting the system, so now your games should load and save much faster, and the size of your saves got reduced significantly! We’ll continue monitoring your feedback on this so we can further improve the system but our internal tests look promising!

Research Tree. Research Tree also got lots of love in this update - now the game will remember where you were on the Research Tree when you closed it, so you don’t have to find Warehouse III when you open it again. And that’s not all! You can now….. DRUMROLL PLEASE…. Queue research! Yep, you heard me right! Add everything you want to Research to the Queue, pay upfront - and if you changed your mind about Warehouse - just delete it from the queue and get the money back!

We’ve also made a lot of small visual changes, fixed a lot of bugs, and generally had an awesome time reading all of your feedback and finding ways to implement it into the game. We want to thank everyone who supported our game from the start and those of you who joined us with the 1.0. We’re grateful that you gave Cartel Tycoon a shot, and we want to make the game even better for all of you!

Major changes



ːcartel_loveː Global Goals! We’re adding 4 end-game missions to Sandbox! Just playing around can be fun, but having a goal in mind can be even more fun! You can choose your own Global Goal when starting a new Sandbox Game, and if you complete it - you’ll get a special reward! It’s Sandbox, so you can choose your own way to approach this goal! Global Goals Unlocks can be obtained only on standard Sandbox Settings (easy, medium, and hard)
ːcartel_loveː Logistics reworked! We’ve made significant changes to the internal prioritization systems, so your money and your products would be delivered to their destinations much more smoothly, and situations, where one of your buildings stays completely empty while the other is overflowing with produce, won't be happening. We've also remade priorities for Residencies, so the Residence doesn't deliver all the money to laundering buildings without leaving anything for the production chain upkeep.
ːcartel_loveː Save System optimized! We’ve been doing a lot of optimizations under the hood and updating how our saving system works. We managed to shrink the file size for saves 20x! The saving process itself is 10 times faster, and loading times tripled in speed. When you start your game for the first time, it could take some time to optimize your old saves but it should be smooth sailing after this!
ːcartel_loveː Research Queue added! Add everything you want to Research to the Queue, pay upfront, and if you changed your mind about something - just delete it from the queue and get the money back!
ːcartel_loveː New Events! We’re introducing new Events for buildings and Enemy Gangs! It means more interactions with Enemy Gangs and it means keeping an eye out on your production and logistics systems!
ːcartel_loveː Heroin changed! We heard that Heroin wasn’t as satisfying to produce, so we changed the amount of product that is needed to make it! We've also made adjustments to its Market fluctuations. These changes will make this drug MUCH more desirable to produce!
ːcartel_loveː Airport balance changed! We've lowered the time needed to sell a batch of products, so your Lieutenants can be available at a faster rate while still selling the same amount of produce, which will make it a more desirable Special Building to control!


Other updates & changes




  • We've optimized the map, so now it shouldn't be obstructed by the interface, no matter your screen size. Rejoice, Ultrawide users!
  • You can cancel any Lieutenant ability now! Stop them, and they'll go to the nearest Friendly Building!
  • Added Global Unlocks to the ESC Menu. Check what and who you want to unlock during the game!
  • When you reopen the Research Tree you’ll be in the same position you were when you closed it!
  • Added Lifetime statistics to Building Statistics Menu
  • Added new unlocks for completing Global Goals
  • Lieutenants can escape Prison if the player ignores Prison Events from Lieutenants
  • Lieutenants can be killed in Prison if the player ignores Prison Events from Lieutenants
  • Now there's a greater chance of Lieutenant's death in Prison
  • Pressing the "Inspect" button in the Quest Menu now teleports the camera to the building this Quest is related to.
  • Added a loading screen before the Main Menu appears when you start the game. It also loads much faster!
  • Terror Scale now appears at the start of the "Needs and Fears" campaign.

As we said before, we’re working hard on the next update, but we wanted to tell you a bit about what we’re working on.

First and foremost, logistics - we made internal changes to the system, and they look very promising in addressing your feedback on this core feature. We want to thank everyone who provided crucial feedback that helped us in this endeavor.

We’re also optimizing our save system - making the saves smaller and addressing the long saving and loading times that some of you have experienced since the 1.0 Release. Once again, our internal tests show great results thus far but we’re continuing our work to make them even better.

We’re also working on adding new features to the game - more Enemy Gang Interactions, Building Events (what the heck is that?!), G.G. (and what the HECK is that?!), and improvements to the Research Tree.

We aim to release the Steam Beta Build very soon and test it out with all of you before releasing it on the main branch - your feedback is crucial, so we decided to go this route before releasing the update on the main branch.
