[H1]Our Goal[/H1]
From day one we set out to develop an exciting and compelling RPG with a vast story and interesting characters. The project that emerged became a modern RPG that evokes nostalgia, but also improves on many of the pitfalls of classic RPGs that we remember so fondly.

Modern technology has allowed us to design and develop a beautiful and vast 3D world, with stunning towns, dungeons, depth of field and verticality that adds to the game's atmosphere. The 360 degree camera allows the player to fully explore the 3D environment, rotating and zooming to find hidden paths or just to get a better look at the world.

[H1]The Story[/H1]

Two hundred years ago a great war waged between man and magic. This conflict created giant fissures in the earth's surface, which began to spew a strange mist that conjured terrible monsters. Today, the people of Varos fear magic and those who possess the power to wield it.

Step into a world rich with history and lore


As you travel through Varos, you'll learn about the history of the world and its inhabitants. In particular, you'll hear about the ancient war, how it almost destroyed Varos, how it caused continents to be split into islands and how it left scar-like rifts along the planet's terrain.

[H1]The Characters[/H1]
Varos is a world ample with diversity and well-developed races. It was important during the writing process to explore different kinds of beings, including the beings living in Varos. You'll discover an interesting mix of races as you play, each one with its own variety of lifestyles, beliefs, and outlooks on life.


Exploring Varos


We've designed the world of Varos to be both vast and beautiful. We really want the player to make the most of the camera design, rotating and zooming to get a better look at the world and environments as they travel and explore. We will also be using this opportunity to hide secret areas, loot and Easter eggs in Sol Ni Koro.

No forced backtracking!


We're avoiding filler, so there will be be no forced backtracking through areas the player has previously visited. Sure, you can backtrack if you want to search for secret areas, loot or just power level your party. But you absolutely shouldn't have to.


[H1]The Combat System[/H1]
The combat system in Sol Ni Koro has been designed to be at its core fast paced and streamlined, but also fun and exciting!

Unique Character Skills


Each playable character in Sol Ni Koro has a completely unique skill set. Characters will gain new skills in two ways:
[B]1.[/B] Levelling up
[B]2. [/B]Equipping 'Scrolls'
Each character and his or her skill set will prove useful in different battle situations. For example, Nova's skill set 'Magic Arts' is focused around offensive magic, while Lalune's skill set 'Sword Arts' leans towards physical/elemental attacks and de-buffing the enemy.

Scrolls


[I]'Ancient parchments left behind for those that have been blessed by the Sun'[/I]

When equipped to a character a scroll will grant a visible stat boost. But what's particularly interesting about scrolls is that they will grant an invisible bonus too. Some scrolls will grant the character a special ability, skill/spell or secret stat boost as well. Scrolls will also behave differently when equipped by different characters, it's all about experimenting!

Version 1.0 Changelog - 2 new themes & less grindy!

Hey everyone!

We are very happy to announce that we've made some awesome changes to Catch a Falling Star.

Firstly, we are extremely thankful for everyone who's played the game and took the time to provide us with feedback. We take everything into consideration. We realised after creating the achievements that the Money Hoarder achievement isn't really all that fun to go for and a bit too grindy. Although we're not going to remove the achievement or change it, we have increased/changed the ways for you to earn some Star Coins in the game.

  • Ice bumping now rewards 5 coins per 5 bumps instead of just 1.
  • We've created a harder to catch coin worth 50 Star Coins.
  • Lastly, we want to reward you for playing more and getting better - with every 1000 points you make, you will earn Star Coins. It starts at 5 Star Coins for 1000 points, and then doubles for every 1000 points after that. So if you hit 2000 points you'll earn 10 Star Coins, 3000 points earns you 20 Star Coins, etc.

We believe that this will make earning Star Coins much easier and more rewarding.

So, you can't just have an easier way to earn Star Coins and not have anything new to spend it on hey? So, without further ado, we have created two "cameo themes"! Our two guest themes are based on the highly popular Turbo Pug, and our other game, Star Chronicles: Delta Quadrant.

Lastly, we've fixed a bug or two with how the leader boards are displayed, and tweaked a bit on the User Interface in-game - it's now slightly transparent, making it easier to spot falling stars that might be hidden behind the UI.

As always, we did play-test extensively, but if you experience any bugs, please post it on the Steam Forums or use the Report Bug button in the game.

Version 0.90 changelog

Hi guys!

Sorry it took slightly longer than we hoped, but our latest patch is finally live (if your game doesn't update, simply restart Steam)!

Here is a list of what changed:

  • New feature: Music Jukebox - we have now opened up all the music tracks in the game, even if you haven't unlocked the theme yet, and you can now enable the music jukebox feature, which will basically loop through the tracks you've selected.
  • New feature: Bubble Shield - sometimes you just cannot avoid catching something like ice or a penalty with the Star, so we've created a Bubble Shield which you can unlock as a once off purchase of StarCoins. Once unlocked, you can hit Space Bar or X on your controller once per minute to give you a shield for 2 seconds that will only allow Stars and StarCoins through. With this, there's also a new power-up, which decreases the recharge time for the shield by 10 seconds.
  • New feature: You can now disable the depositing of Stars by holding in either Shift Keys or Y on your controller - especially handy if you have the "faster basket" power-up active and don't want to accidentally deposit a non-full basket!
  • New feature: On the Play Screen we now show handy tips which will help you play the best Catch a Falling Star game of your life!
  • Improvement: StarCoins are not affected by wind as much anymore, making them a bit easier to catch in general.
  • Improvement: We've reduced the penalty for when you deposit a full basket with Ice in.
  • Kobayashi maru: We've improved how we handle the online leader-boards - Did some more highscore hacking/cheating prevention :)
  • Changed: we modified the 1000 Stars achievement on Steam's end, which we think will sort out the issue where some players get stuck at 999/1000 stars for the Achievement. Please let us know if you guys who are affected by this are still having issues with this achievement.

We tested all of this thouroughly, but please report any bugs you may find by either posting to the discussions here on Steam or by using the Report Bugs button in the game.

We look forward to seeing the new high scores you'll be putting on!

New features inbound

Hi everyone!

Firstly, thanks so much for each and everyone that's supported us so far and played Catch a Falling Star - especially to the ones who's given feedback and/or suggestions! We really appreciate it!

We are busy working on some new features for the game, and hope to have it done as soon as possible! We always play-test changes like these thoroughly to make sure there aren't any bugs or things like that, so thanks for your patience!

The first one is based on the feedback given by Zaxtor99 about ice being a bit of a pain, especially when you cannot avoid catching one. We have created a "bubble shield" that you can unlock as a once-off purchase. Once you've bought it, you can activate it once per minute in-game, which basically puts a shield around your basket that will only let stars and coins through (effectively bumping away anything else - even power-ups). With this, we've also introduced a new power-up which basically speeds up the recharge time for your shield when caught.

After a lot of thought, we do not want the Star Coins to be the main factor for big high scores or to make the game too easy, thus only allowing a single one-use power-up to be bought at the start of the game. We feel the shield feature will help to lessen some of the bad luck and frustration you sometimes experience in situations you cannot control.

The second one was in response to people accidentally depositing stars at the edge of the screen when they didn't mean to. Our way to combat this is by creating a feature to disable depositing when a certain key is held down.

Lastly, we are reducing the penalty of ice when you deposit a full basket with a chunk of ice in it.

There are a few in-the-background changes we're working on as well, especially with regards to the online leader board. We'll give more details with the official patch notes when we go live with it :)

Anyway, you guys have been super! Thanks again for all the great feedback!

Hotfix - All the new looks achievement not triggering

Hi everyone, someone pointed out that the "all the new looks" achievement wasn't triggering properly (thank you!), so we quickly fixed it. If your game doesn't update automatically, restart Steam and it should download. It's only about 10MB.

3 Achievements removed

Hi guys

I'm just letting you know, thanks to feedback from some of the players, we removed 2 of the masochist achievements. We realised it is just silly to force people to lose lives in the game just for an achievement, and it takes away from the fun of the game. The ones we took out is the 50 and 100 lose-a-life achievements.

Also, the leaderboards achievement. We are having issues making it trigger properly, and also not everyone likes to have their name up on a public place like a global leaderboard, so we decided to scrap that one too.

There was also a very small bug in the script that returns the high scores that one of the players pointed out - thanks so much for that, I have fixed the issue.

Hope you understand!

Oh, and our top score is held, at the moment, by Lavatein with 6070 points! That's an awesome score indeed! Who's up for the challenge to beat him?

V0.87 live - ACHIEVEMENTS!!

We've had a great launch for Catch a Falling Star, and a lot of you wanted achievements. It was the plan all along, but we decided to get them in much sooner than we initially wanted to.

  • So, Achievement Hunters - have fun! there are close to 50 of them to go for! We've coded in a feature to make the achievements that you would have gotten to trigger when you play the game. For example, if you put a high score of 3000 points, then the relevant score related achievements will trigger (you don't have put up a score like that again.)

  • We also added the High Scores button on the main menu, so you don't have to wait till after an actual game to view them :)

  • Lastly, when a star now falls off the side of the screen, it explodes.

If your game doesn't update, simply restart Steam and the update will happen. It's all of 3MB!

If you experience any bugs or issues please let us know, we're constantly keeping an eye on things.
