Hello! I'm not sure what time it is where you are, but over here it is very nearly Christmas and this is our seasonal gift to you: a new update for Chime Sharp. Unwrap it (it's a metaphor, don't actually unwrap anything please) and you'll find some minor bugfixes, crucial rule and scoring changes in Strike mode and a oh-our-gosh A NEW SONG.
Once you've played it take a moment to welcome chiptune superstar Shirobon to the Chime fold, and check out the rest of his work: FOX reminds us of the soundtrack to the best sides-crolling shooter that never was and we think it sounds absolutely brilliant in our game.
That's it. Thanks for all your support this year! You are all amazing. Let us know what you think of the game so far on the forums, by email or by Twitter. Have a great holiday season and we'll see you below us on the scoreboards -- and if not there, then in another update at the start of 2016, perhaps with another new song...
New build/update!
Hello everyone, Lana here. I'm hijacking the announcements section from Ste to bring some news on the new update.
We've fixed stuff that have been reported to us in the discussion forums, reviews and in support emails. Thanks for those and keep them coming. I read every single one of those!
Our game maker Connor forwarded some patch notes to me to give to you. Now I'll pretend I'm President Snow and you're my tributes. But not really because that would be weird and the principle of Hunger Games is immoral. (Battle Royale tho)
Here you go:
Palette Reworks We’ve made a long list of changes to the colour schemes we’re using in Chime Sharp to help playability. More to come on this next update!
Camera Mode Added a ‘Classic’ camera mode that is similar to that of the original Chime. You might find this useful if you’re having mouse sensitivity issues. It can be found in the options menu.
Visual Modes We’ve added a few new visual modes to the options menu. One is a colour blind mode (We really want feedback on this so we can tailor it to as many people as possible!) The other might be preferable to some players! And it looks cool too.
Custom Music and Sounds You can now add custom Chimes, Quads and Loops to your user generated levels! Check out the how to doc in the StreamingAssets/CustomLevels folder in your build. (yay for fart SFX)
Other Features Added credits to the options menu.
Added some new visuals to the menus.
Made some adjustments to the in game UI for usability.
Improved visuals across the menus.
Bug Fixes Fixed a bug that was causing the D-Pad to not work on some devices.
Until the next update!
Early Access Current Work
Hello Steam users! I’m Ste, and you’re playing (or maybe you’re about to play, or maybe you’re not sure yet, so let me help make up your mind: DEFINITELY PLAY IT) Chime Sharp — a music puzzle game that we Kickstarted earlier this year and should be finished in early 2016. This is an Early Access version which means there are lots of things that are in-progress and broken here, but the game is perfectly playable and I think it’s a pretty good illustration of the game we want to end up with. It’s pretty, pure, and both relaxing and challenging. We’re really proud of it!
With that in mind, here are some of the things we’re working on right now, possibly even as you’re reading this:
++ There are only 6 of 15 tracks in at the moment and they’re not all final. If you’re part of our Early Access team you’ll see new tracks added regularly (and improved / edited) (and some might get removed, too, as we try to build our perfect mixtape)
++ We’re still playing around with the game modes. Both Sharp and Strike are new additions and we’re glad they’re there, but they need some balancing work and all rules are subject to change
++ The UI. Should the “Next” pieces really sit below the board? Seems a bit odd to us, so expect that to change shortly
++ The menu system. It’s a bit of a jumble right now and we’ll definitely be remixing that before release. Artists up front, we think?
++ The controls. They’re still a little twitchy around the edge of each cell but we have a plan. You can read a longer post about that over at the Chime Sharp Kickstarter, in our updates, if you’re curious
++ The viewpoint (and the palettes). We love our new look but we know it isn’t for everyone and there’ll be a test “classic perspective” option in the next build, we think. We’re also adding support for alternate colour palettes to address issues for gamers with different visual needs
Busy times. I’ll update this with more build notes on the next release but until then let us know your thoughts…
