Hello everyone, it has been a while.
As you may have noticed, there have been no updates for Chonky in the last few months, and we would like to apologize for that. After spending more and more time fixing little bugs and adding missing features, we decided that Chonky and ourselves needed a break.
We are currently creating a new design document for Chonky. Once we have a better grasp on what we want Chonky to be, we will return to active development. Some of the core systems will have to be replaced. Therefore, it might take a while.
But rest assured, we will return to our beloved project. With a major rework and a lot of new content.

Tldr: Lots of quality of live and visual improvements, as well as fixes for small problems. And making Chubbington much more lively.^^

Fixes:

  • Fixed the effect from Rain of Light despawning to soon
  • Fixed Enemy health bars clipping behind the environment

  • Re added Water Chonky dialogue lines

Tldr: The HUD and the UI have been reworked, Stability and Performance were improved, Gamebalance and Gameplay have been upgraded and a lot of things where added, including 26 new Chonky NPCs.

Fixes:

  • Fixed crashes on entering and reloading levels
  • Fixed negative multiplicative boni in the hover text of items being coloured the wrong way around when comparing
  • Fixed healing being reduced by your armor
  • Fixed Enemy and Item levelling not being linear
  • Stats will now be removed from the Character when unequiping items
  • Fixed the weapon trails not adjusting their colour to your element

Tldr: Smoother gameplay, quest markers on the map and other quality of life improvements were added. A second round with more such upgrades as well as a rework of the HUD and the UI is on its way.

  • fixed a bug that would prevent you from moving ever again
  • fixed some skills overwriting one another in the diary
  • fixed incompatible save file mechanic (now only forcing you to make a new safe when actually necessary)

  • moved tutorial enemies out of the shadows and into the light, the light
  • removed the post-processing effect for the fields
  • removed weird parallel fence in the wood chopping area
  • improved item icons
  • improved aim-ability for the poison bomb skill (you can now throw at less than maximum force too)
  • improved smoothness of tutorial spider web death
  • improved dying speed of enemies (they vanish faster)
  • reduced the duration of movement locks for attacks and skill casting, also made them fit better to the animation
  • made the axe in the wood chopping area as well as the broom near the orchard pick-up-able
  • blocked a dead end near the wood chopping area

Update 2022.12.22

Tldr:

  • Three new quests, more sounds, the first consumables, some quality of life improvements and some visual improvements


Fixes:

  • fixed Bobbling Birb not adhering to the master and SFX volume
  • fixed game not displaying the Chonky icon in the task bar (hopefully, finally)
  • fixed confirmation messages in the main menu not being centered
  • fixed text: "Press 'e' to pick up" no longer blocks attack clicks
  • fixed the answer field in dialog windows not scaling to the size of the text in it and wasting precious space
  • fixed void spawn, casted void spawn and void spawn flower skills and re-added them to the game (finally)
  • fixed some walking animations of enemies


Additions:

  • added three new quests (On the hunt, Tales of trial and error, Spring cleaning) with new mechanics and unique rewards
  • added an auto saving feature that saves every 60 seconds

Update 2022.12.08

Tldr:

  • We got our first two quests and an interactive map now. Also, some quality of life improvements like auto stat comparison for items were added and a few new sounds.


Fixes:

  • fixed Snaily/Big Maggod/MagGOD spit sounds (does sound more like spiting and less like farting now)
  • fixed weapons only displaying their level 1 damage, not their real, leveled up damage
  • fixed stats window not automatically scaling with the size of the content


Additions:

  • added the first two quests into the game
  • added a new page to the diary with a map and a quest log
  • added an automatically updating little Chonky head onto the map, showing you where you currently are
  • added our first NPC, Simple Chonk
  • added auto item stat comparison when hovering over an item with something already equipped in its slot

Fixes:

  • fixed Bobbling Birb randomly aggroing
  • fixed spit attacks of Snaily and MagGOD still damaging you when they missed
  • fixed Dark Mass Boomerang skill turning with the player
  • fixed a broken item between the 2 benches before the Dark Forest (just removed it)
  • fixed oversized collision around the Tree Stump Shrine
  • fixed the target circle not appearing on bridges


Additions:

  • added on hit aggro for enemies, when you hurt them, they will come to hurt you back
  • added Bloodflower Tree to Dark Forest
  • added 3 collectible Apple Friend items to the map (to already existing piles of apples lying around)

  • nerfed Miasma skill to only have half its former range
  • nerfed Miasma damage by 200% (now 0.05 per tick, former 0.2 per tick)
  • nerfed Bobbling Birb damage per attack by 20% (now 12, former 15)
  • nerfed Wobbly Wosp health by 8.3% (now 110, former 120)
  • nerfed Rocknado Burst cooldown by 25% (now 7.5 sec, former 5 sec)
  • nerfed Rain of Light and Casted Rain of Light Damage by 37.5% (now 0.5 per tick, former 0.8 per tick)
  • nerfed Poison Bomb damage by 20% (now 0.8 per tick, former 1.0 per tick)


Buffs:

  • buffed Poison Rain damage by 37.5% (now 0.08 per tick, former 0.05 per tick)
  • buffed Wooden Greatsword damage by 5 for normal and special attacks
  • buffed Wooden Greataxe normal attack damage by 5 and special attack damage by 10
  • buffed Wooden Greatsword normal attack damage by 2 and special attack damage by 3
  • buffed Wooden Greatclub normal attack damage by 8 and special attack damage by 5
  • buffed Broom normal attack damage by 8


Random

  • made the projectile of the Big Maggod spit attack bigger
  • disabled all 3 Voidspawn skills until we manage to make them actually work
  • halved the distance Maggods can move while idle
  • replaced the "You died!" message on the death screen with the much friendlier "You fainted"

Fixes:

  • fixed black flickering spots bug
  • fixed lil maggods not being hittable by firebeam
  • fixed snaily/maggod spit attack colliding with ground sometimes

  • fixed triple chomp being unlockable from getting hit by the maggod spit attack, it now can only be unlocked by being bitten by him
  • fixed shadow arrow, shadow arrow barrage, light spear, heavy light spear, triple light spear flying way too short
  • fixed triple light spear unlock requirement to actually only trigger from using polearms
  • fixed dark mass boomerang dealing damage before and after flight

  • added text to the skill description of bite and triple chomp, explaining that they only trigger when hitting an enemy
  • added new sign explaining two-handed weapons blocking the offhand slot

Balance Changes:

  • nerfed apple staff normal attack from dealing 40 to 35 base damage
  • increased dark mass boomerang damage
  • increased whole basket range


Random

  • slowed the river down and made the simple chonk lake an actual lake

Update 2022.11.04


  • Added the option to assign Skills with Shift + Number. As long as the Skill Unlocked window is open, pressing Shift + 1-4 will assign the Skill to that number. If a Skill will be replaced by this action, the pop-up "Are you sure you want to replace this Skill" will still open and can be either accepted or rejected via keyboard inputs.
  • Removed the Chaos System that was responsible for the majority of the crashes. Enemies now perish with a fancy particle effect instead of falling apart. Also, some skills now use despawning projectiles instead of ones that break apart.
  • Fixed the sound settings. Music will now respect the loudness setting and will no longer default to maximum when loading into a level.
  • Fixed special attack scaling. Weapons special attacks will now actually scale with the level of the weapon.
  • Fixed negative multiplier in stats window. It will no longer display +-X% but rather only -X%.
  • Fixed the unlock requirement for the big light ball. It can no longer be acquired randomly.
  • Fixed Skills being able to deal damage with no weapon equipped.
  • Fixed prefixes on tutorial items. They are now always the same.
  • Fixed Prefix "Balanced" for weapons. It should not have given +900% physical damage, but rather +10 physical damage.
  • Fixed two more prefixes that gave 5 times the buff that they actually should.


All prefix changes will only affect newly spawned items, those that you already have in your inventory will keep their old overpowered stats.
