Steam Workshop: Episode Editor BETA now available!
Hey everyone,
Today is a very exciting day! Remember when, way back in 2013, Chroma Squad almost reached our Kickstarter stretch goal for an Episode Editor?
Back then I was just a backer like you. A few months later, I was brought on board to help the Behold Studios team in making this dream come true! Slowly, throughout the years, we kept improving the game, surprised and motivated by how much love it got from you, our fans.
You never forgot about Chroma Squad, so neither did we! Last year we saw the “Director’s Cut” free update, with lots of much-requested features such as the New Game+ and controller support. And today we are officially releasing the Beta version of our Episode Editor!
What can you do?
With the Episode Editor you can create episodes as complex (or even more!) as the ones in the game. You can create your own stories, dialogue, fights, giant robot battles, surprising twists and “funny” puns. Oh boy, I wish we had this tool back in the day - it would have made development so much easier!
But it is here now, and it is yours. It is still rough around the edges, and we need your help to test it and to tell us what we can do to improve it.
The only major limitation is that you cannot add your own media such as sprites and sounds (yet!), and you also cannot add or manipulate special objects in the environment (such as the bombs from Season 5 or Monster Portals). Apart from that, the sky is the limit - you have access to all maps, bosses, enemies, characters, sound, music, and special effects from the official Chroma Squad campaign!
You can create adventures that slot in the regular campaign, or create stand-alone stories or even campaigns - it’s up to you!
How do I use it?
If you want to create episodes or simply play the creations of other people, you just need to follow these simple steps:
1. Go to your Steam client
2. Go to “Library” and find your Games list
3. Right-click your “Chroma Squad” installation
4. Select “Properties”
5. Click the “Betas” tab
6. On the “Select the beta you would like to opt into” drop-down menu, select “public-beta”
7. Click on “CLOSE” to close the Properties window
8. Wait for the download and play the game!
After launching the game, the Episode Editor BETA can be accessed from the Main Menu on the bottom-left corner of the screen.
Documentation & Tutorials
These are under development! We will share them with you as soon as they are done. In the meantime feel free to ask questions here in the comments, in the Steam Forums, or tweet directly to me @markventurelli or @beholdstudios.
Example Episode
I have created an example episode that I will reference on the tutorials. It is a fairly complex episode, and it demonstrates the power of the Editor. I also think it is pretty fun :) You can download it by visiting Chroma Squad’s Steam Workshop page and Subscribing to it.
I have feedback / I found a bug. What do I do?
Please report bugs directly to us using the in-game tool. Just click on the top-right corner of the screen. Or email us on bugreport@beholdstudios.com.br.
For general feedback, you can use the comments below, the Steam Forums or any of Behold Studios' social network channels.
Go let your imagination run wild!
Thank you for your love and support throughout all of these years!
We can’t wait to see what you will create.
With love and imagination, anything is possible! Go, Chroma Squad!

First patch for "Director's Cut" version is live!
Hi everyone,
Thank you for all the love and support you've given us since we released the "Director's Cut" super-patch! Also, thanks for the patience - we know there are still bugs to be fixed, and we are working on it. We've seen your reports in our bug report system, as well as on the forums, reddit and even Twitter. Thank you for helping in making this game better! :)
Today we are addressing most of the things you've reported, but there's still work left to do.
Especially, I'd like to talk about two things.
1) If you are on Mac or Linux and have been having problems launching the game, we figured out why - it's actually a Steam patch problem related to us renaming the executable. That's why we were having it work for some people but not work for others.
**TO FIX THIS ISSUE**
- Go to your Library, and right-click "Chroma Squad";
- Select "Properties";
- Select the "Local Files" tab;
- Select the option "Browse Local Files";
- Now, on the game folder, right click "chromasquad";
- Select the "Get Info" option;
- Open the folder Contents\MacOS;
- Rename the file "mac2" to "chromasquad";
Please let us know if this solves the issue for you.
2) If you are experiencing a freeze on the final boss (please avoid spoilers and don't mention the name of the boss on the comments), we have fixed an issue on that fight, but we have failed to reproduce some of the cases that you have reported - we've played this fight over 20 times and it seems perfectly stable on our machines now.
Please let us know if the freeze still occurs for you. If it does, send us a report with your email through the in-game system. We might ask you for your save game file to try and catch this elusive issue.
That's it for today :)
Cheers,
~Mark

Free “Director’s Cut” Update Now Available
It’s finally here!
We’d like to thank you for your patience and support through all these years. To all the fans and backers: this game is not ours, it is yours!
The "Director's Cut" free update to Chroma Squad brings long-awaited new features and improvements to the game. Let's go through each one of them!
The adventure no longer ends after the credits roll - with the "New Game+" and "New Game++" features you can keep playing with your current party, facing randomized enemies and goals on the episodes, crafting new items, and perhaps making different story choices that could lead you to unexplored paths!
The Mecha Fights have been completely revamped to be faster and more fun, and the random chances were replaced by new reflex mini-games!
Difficulty levels have been completely rebalanced to offer a more customizable experience, including a new super-hard mode called "Heroic Difficulty"!
We have also tweaked a few encounters in the game that were famously unfair or long (*cough cough* Mini-Kaiju Squad *cough cough*)!
And that's not all - we also fixed some bugs and the game should be running smoother and faster overall!
**IMPORTANT: If you don't like the changes, the previous version of Chroma Squad will be forever available in the "Legacy" branch on Steam.**
And that's it! Oh, and if you like Chroma Squad, maybe you'll be happy to know that Behold Studio's new game, "Galaxy of Pen and Paper" is releasing this month, on July 27th. It already has a Steam Page:

It all starts with a dream... PC update is coming soon!
It all starts with a dream... we gather a group of friends and start working hard everyday. This is not just the story in Chroma Squad, it is our story as well.
We know that you all expect so much from us, to fix all the bugs, to read all the comments, to release every possible feature and content...
We're actually doing everything we can. We're are a small team of indie devs from Brazil, living the dream of creating our own games. Everyday we struggle with our laws, taxes, burocracy, prejudice and lack of opportunities.
But today we achieved part of that dream. We're releasing a game on consoles! And we want to share this with you.
The console version has some long-awaited features such as New Game+ and major changes for the Mecha fights. These changes are coming to PC as well in our "Director's Cut" edition. We originally planned to release it today alongside the console and mobile versions, but porting to consoles turned out to be way more challenging than we expected.
There is no exclusivity deal or any hidden motive or agenda behind this delay. We are trying our best to release these console changes on PC, and will do so as soon as it is done.
Someday we'll be as good as you deserve, but today, we can offer you this: a game made from the heart! <3
Thank you for supporting us through all these years.
What we've been up to...
Hello guys and girls :)
We’re so happy with Chroma Squad and the amazing community is has created. So I’m here today to make some considerations and keep you updated with all sort of things.
As soon as Chroma Squad was launched we started a new project and some of you already know, we are a very small indie team, so the beginning of a new project ended up putting on hold some of the updates we wanted to make for Chroma Squad.
Also considering that the game is licensed by Power Rangers, it makes everything very slow and bureaucratic to add new stuff. So you can have a sense of all the paperwork involved, the contract to port the Chroma Squad to consoles and mobile took more than a year to be signed. Yeah. That’s how slow things move around this license!
But today the team is way more focused on Chroma Squad and things are finally flowing. We want to resume our contact with this amazing community so you can expect updates for the next months.
As always we’ll be here in case you need us

Now it’s available in English, Brazilian Portuguese, French, German, Spanish and Japanese. How awesome is that?!
