Production Cost Optimization

Hi Binoguriens and Binoguriennes!

I don't know if it's a good idea to say "Hi Binoguriens and Binoguriennes!", so let's stick with "Hi folks"!
Version 1.21 is the most stable release ever, I still have one crash to fix, I'm working on it but that's not all.

The long-awaited return

When I redid the console creation system, I had to remove an important feature due to lack of time. It was the reduction of manufacturing costs based on the number of units sold. Recently, I took the time to put this feature back in place.
And now, the more your console sells, the more manufacturing costs will be reduced, up to a maximum of 45% reduction.

I had to add a few more things to this, including tooltips that will warn the player when the console price is too high and will hurt sales, while changing the font color.

What's next

This triumphant return of production cost reductions is great, but v1.22 is focused on studios. I'd like to add a feature that allows copying/pasting furniture placement in a studio. I plan to add it soon, but that's not what I'm working on right now.

I want to be transparent with you, and I'm working on your suggestions. The arrival of the studio director has generated a lot of suggestions. So, I'm going to add a few things, notably the ability to rename a game produced by the studio director. Or, allow the studio director not to publish a game if it doesn't reach a certain score.

These are pretty significant changes that will clearly improve the quality of life in City Game Studio. But in addition to that, I'm going to rework some small things. You see, the icons in the bottom menu aren't visible enough. It's not obvious what you can click on or not. So I'm going to rework this part. But I've also had several bug reports saying that the mouse pointer on Windows was offset at times.

I haven't fixed these bugs yet, and I'd like to finish all these tasks before starting to work on the studio furnishing changes.

That's all for me, thank you for reading,
As always, if you have any comments, I'll read them with joy and enthusiasm !

Happy New Year and best wishes
Xavier aka Binogure

Patch v1.22.0-rc0

Default version of the game, we want to make sure to have a chance to discover bugs and adjust the balancing, to give you the best game experience possible.

Access the Unstable branch on Steam by right clicking City Game Studio in your Steam library, and then select ‘Properties’. In the new window, select ‘Betas’. The Unstable branch should now be available for you to choose from.

Please leave any feedback you may have in the appropriate channel in our Discord, or in the subforum on Steam.

As always, remember to be considerate towards players not partaking in the Unstable, in case they want to avoid spoilers.

Please make sure to make backups of your save files before playing.

Changelog

Custom-platform

  • Console manufacturing costs are adjusted according to the number of copies sold.
  • Added notification when your console reaches a new manufacturing cost reduction threshold
  • A tooltip is added when the console price is so high that it adversely affects console sales.

New Year, Fresh Start

Hi everyone!

A quick update to start 2025! (yes, already!)

Bug Fixes

Windows was giving us some attitude. The game would crash on first play, like some sort of welcome gesture to new players (not very welcoming, I know). And some game panels would sometimes refuse to load, which gave a rather... interesting... experience? That's all fixed now!

Misc

I've updated the copyright to 2025. Feels weird writing that, doesn't it? Time flies when you're developing games!
Also added a tooltip to the exit panel, because sometimes a bit more explanation doesn't hurt.

What's Coming Next

I'm still working on:
- Reworking studio furnishing (with those copyable templates)
- Reducing console manufacturing costs based on sales

That's all for today! As usual, if you find any other bugs, don't hesitate to let me know.

Have a great gaming session!

City Game Studio joins the Steam Winter Sale (-25%)

Hey everyone!

I'm super excited to announce that City Game Studio is part of the Steam Winter Sale with a 25% discount! You can grab it for $11.99 instead of $15.99.

If you've been following the recent updates, you know that v1.21.0 brought the biggest changes to the game, including the Studio Director feature. This lets you automate game creation while you focus on managing your company, designing your next console, building new studios, and handling your digital store. And that's just scratching the surface!

For those just discovering the game: City Game Studio is a deep management game where you start in 1976 with a tiny game studio and grow it into a gaming empire. You'll manage multiple studios, create games, build consoles, compete with (or buy out) your rivals, and much more!
And speaking of what's next - I'm currently working on the next big update planned for March/April 2025, which will include:

Studio layout templates (copy/paste your studio setups!)
Console manufacturing cost reduction based on sales

I want to thank all of you who've been supporting the game's development. Whether you're a long-time player or just thinking about jumping in, now's a great time with the Winter Sale discount!

Take care,
Xavier aka Binogure

P.S. If you run into any issues, don't hesitate to let me know. I'm always here to help! :)
PS 2: This is my upcoming game, that should be out for $2.99 on April 7th 2025. I'm sure you're gonna love a DEMOCRATIC monpoly on Steroids with TEAM !

The Express Update: Bug Fix 2

Hey everyone!

A quick update today, but one that fixes some rather... annoying issues!

Bug Fixes

We had two sneaky bugs playing hide and seek in the code:
- Sometimes, games were being released before their rating was computed! As a result, they were lost in limbo, with no sales and impossible to discontinue. It's like sending someone to a job interview without a resume!
- Similarly, some games were retiring before their lifetime was calculated. Result: even more backstage chaos. That's now a thing of the past!

That's all for today! As always, if you find any other bugs, don't hesitate to let me know.

Happy gaming!

Operation Stability

Hi everyone!

Today, big stability update! The game had a tendency to crash a bit too often for my taste, so I spent quite some time fixing all that.

Bug Fixes

The game had some issues with random crashes:
- When making a game sequel (as if making a game wasn't stressful enough!)
- When releasing a game for your future console (looks like the game doesn't like time travel)
- And when porting a game as a publisher (that one was just to annoy you)

I also fixed some other stuff:
- Czech translations have been reworked
- The company logo creator had a silent error on first launch. The kind that makes the game act weird without telling you why. That's fixed!
- Added a one-frame delay for game updates. Basically, this prevents information from displaying incorrectly or the game from crashing

Misc

- Improved Steam integration (because we like it when things work well with Steam)
- Brought back the old company/studio button (sometimes, better is the enemy of good!)

Known Issues

There's still that small issue with online games where the number of units sold includes retention figures. I haven't forgotten about it, I'm working on it!

What's Coming Next

I'm still working on:
- Reworking studio furnishing (with those copyable templates)
- Reducing console manufacturing costs based on sales

Small Fixes, Big Plans

Hi everyone!

A quick update today, with some bonus info about what's coming!

Bug Fixes

Fixed a crash that occurred when buying out a competitor. Let's just say the game wasn't too fond of hostile takeovers!

Game Name Generator

Added two new variations to the generator. Nothing fancy, but it should give you a bit more diversity in your titles.

Known Issues

There's currently a small issue with online games: the number of units sold includes retention figures, which isn't really what we want. I'm working on it!

What's Coming Next

For those wondering what's cooking, here's the plan for March/April 2025:
- I'm reworking studio furnishing. You'll be able to create templates and copy/paste them from one studio to another. No more setting everything up from scratch every time!
- Consoles will become cheaper to produce the more you sell. Just like in real life!

That's all for today! As usual, if you find any other bugs, don't hesitate to let me know.

Have a great gaming session!

Meet Fortune Avenue!

Hey folks !

My other game, Fortune Avenue, just got a major update! For those who haven't heard about it yet, imagine Monopoly reinvented with modern twists that keep the game fresh and exciting. You can take planes to zip across the board, escape melting ice floes, vote on game-changing rules every 12 rolls, and even organize the World Cup to multiply your hotel's rent tenfold!

As someone who loves management games (like you all!), I designed Fortune Avenue to be deeply strategic while keeping that fun party game spirit. Instead of a boring jail, you might find yourself on a luxury cruise. And if you're falling behind, watch out for the helicopter that chases down the poorest players!

The new update brings tons of improvements and new features that make the game even more enjoyable. Plus, it's very affordable at just $2.99 - less than a cup of coffee! If you enjoy City Game Studio's mix of strategy and management, I think you'll have a blast with Fortune Avenue too.
Come try it out and let me know what you think! I'm always around to chat and improve both games based on your feedback.

Take care,
Xavier aka Binogure

P.S. There's also a free demo available if you want to give it a test drive first!

Back from Vacation

Hi everyone!

Quick update to fix two rather... interesting bugs!

Bug Fixes

The studio director got his knuckles rapped. He wasn't always respecting exclusivity contracts and was making games for other console manufacturers. Let's say he was taking a bit too much liberty with contracts! That's now fixed.

And finally, some of your employees were going on vacation... and never coming back! The worst part is that you kept paying them. It was like permanent paid vacation. Nice for them, not so much for your wallet! That's fixed too.

That's all for today! As usual, if you find any other bugs, don't hesitate to let me know.

Have a great gaming session!

Small Tweaks, Big Impact

Hi everyone!

A quick update today. Nothing crazy, but a few fixes that should improve your gaming experience!

Bug Fixes

Well, sometimes the simplest things can cause issues. For instance, when Steam wasn't detected and you were using the dark theme, you couldn't read the text. It was kind of like playing with your eyes closed, not very practical! That's fixed now.

For those who were frantically clicking the exit button (we all know it happens when a game stops responding), well now the game actually listens to you and really closes. Promise!

The studio director has also learned to count. He wasn't always using the platform with the largest market share. Now he can do his math properly!

Translations

A big thank you to MasterStudioCZ who improved both Czech and English translations. Steam achievements are now also available in Czech!

That's all for today! As usual, if you find any other bugs, don't hesitate to let me know.

Have a great gaming session!
