City of Gangsters

City of Gangsters: Criminal Record is available now!

Hello everyone!

City of Gangsters: Criminal Record is now available! Discover and profit from expanded Roles and Schemes as you take on new challenges in historic Philadelphia!

On the streets of Philadelphia, you’ll discover countless banks and jewelry stores ripe for the taking, along with homemade brandy, a new type of booze to make and sell. On top of all of that, we’ve added a unique starting condition which gets you a Captain on your crew from the get go.

You’ll also have 5 new Roles to explore for your crew, each with their own requirements and capabilities:

Enforcer
Captain requirements: Attack and take over rival territory
Role bonus: Fronts will become cheaper

Jailbird
Captain requirements: Fight and kill rival gang members, and get arrested
Role bonus: Excels at non-firearm weapons

Lookout
Captain requirements: Discover corners and drive around the map
Role bonus: Drive 50% further

Mouthpiece
Captain requirements: Establish fronts and bribe cops
Role bonus: Bribing cops will become cheaper

Closer
Captain requirements: Complete business deals with corner hooligans, trade in favors and attend events
Role bonus: Taking over buildings becomes cheaper

Each of these Roles includes a unique Scheme. Want to organize a bank heist with an Enforcer? Blackmail businesses around town with a Mouthpiece? Set up a new front across town? It’s up to you decide which of your Captains’ ideas you’ll agree to and which you decide are just too risky.

You’ll also have a new way to show off what you and your outfit have accomplished during Prohibition! As your wealth grows, the time will come to set up Your Office. You’ll have to decide between a secluded woodland lodge or glitzy penthouse where you’ll stash trophies and rewards from your criminal escapades.

We can’t wait to see how your criminal empire grows in Philadelphia! Come chat with us and other crew members over on Twitter and Discord once your new operations are up and running!

Until then!

Free Update 1.3: Roles & Schemes is now live!

Hi everyone!

Ready to expand your criminal empire with a whole new host of abilities and activities? Then good news - our latest FREE 1.3 UpdateRoles & Schemes” - is now available!

As your Captains work to grow your empire, they’ll pick up their own, unique experiences. You can now use that experience to elevate them to a new Role in your crew. Once they’re in a role, they’ll be able to start their own Schemes - ongoing activities that will give you an opportunity to make some big scores. You’ll use the new organization chart to see each crew member and Captain and their progress toward a Role.

Each Role also comes with unique abilities. For example, Intimidators can help you discover what rival gangs are storing in their hideouts, while Accountants will help you purchase buildings at cheaper rates. All Captains are eligible for promotion into a Role and you can have several of the same Role.

Based on their experience and Role, your promoted Captains will have some ideas of their own that they’ll want to pitch to you as the Boss. Once you agree to one of their cunning Schemes - and after some investment on your part - they’ll get down to business.

Schemes come with risks as well as a variety of rewards, each depending on what you choose to have your Captain do, so choose carefully. Get it right and the rewards will be worth the risk. Get it wrong and all your investment will go down the drain, or worse - your Captain could get arrested or killed.

We’d love to know how you’re enjoying the latest update, so as always you can find us over on Twitter and Discord.

Hope to see you there!

Announcing free update 1.3 “Roles & Schemes” + new Criminal Record DLC!

Hey everyone, since our last post we’ve been hard at work on some new mechanics and content for City of Gangsters, and today we’re announcing the impending arrival of Roles and Schemes in the main game!

These new systems will be released in free update 1.3, arriving in early March. You will be able to specialize your captains into specific roles, gain access to a variety of new abilities and actions, which we’re calling schemes, and inspect your entire outfit in a new organization chart.

Along with version 1.3, we will be launching a new DLC which extends these new mechanics! Unfolding in the streets of Philadelphia, City of Gangsters: Criminal Record will not only add more roles and schemes, but also provide a new city map, with a fascinating novel starting condition, and a brand new view of “Your Office” where you will collect mementos of your various criminal deeds and exploits.

The times have changed

Captain roles let you specialize your crew further. Your new and improved outfits will be more diverse and adaptable with their own distinct hierarchy and feel. Once a crew member gains enough experience and ascends to captain level, they’ll have the opportunity to work towards an advanced role such as:

  • Enforcer
  • Intimidator
  • Jailbird
  • Lookout
  • Mouthpiece
  • Closer
  • Accountant

Attaining a specialized role requires very specific experience and expertise, which differs from role to role. For example, to become an enforcer, a candidate must have been successful at a number of combat and enforcement operations in the past, in addition to attaining the rank of a captain. And remember, a captain can only have one role, so choose wisely!

The less I say the more my work gets done

These roles in turn unlock role-specific abilities. As your gang moves through the 1920s, you will discover that your new captains will develop ideas for their own personal schemes. Maybe they will want to stage a bank robbery or blackmail a local crooked cop, based on their prior experience.

Schemes are elaborate illicit activities that unfold over a number of stages, and each stage has a number of different options and potential consequences. Will you be able to leverage the scheme to your long-term advantage? Or will your captain fall prey to their own ambitions, the law, or your rivals?

Philadelphia freedom

Beyond update 1.3, the Criminal Record DLC will bring extra roles and schemes into the game, along with some new content. It also unlocks the city of Philadelphia, with a unique starting condition that is sure to be incredibly profitable. And no matter which city you pick, you will now be able to set up an office, in a country lodge or in a downtown penthouse, and it will fill up over time with spoils of victory and mementos of your escapades.

Shine the light

We can’t wait for you to dig into these new mechanics, and develop your crew into a highly specialized criminal machine! We’ll be back soon with another update to break down the new systems and discuss the additions in City of Gangsters: Criminal Record, so take care of yourselves until then!
