Gearing towards the release - Part 3

Hey There,

We are back once again with some more update and information about our game Clan N.

First, as usual, some update regarding the release. We made a good progress on platform certification, which is needed to be allowed to released on that platform, and already have passed on majority of it, including Steam! There's particularly one platform where there is a specific issue we are trying to solve with the help of the support guys and hope to solve that problem within this week as well! So, it's gettibg very close ːsteamhappyː.

The GamePlay

By looking into the screenshots and not playing the demo yet ːsteamsadː, you may wonder what makes this game different than the others, apart the very small characters, which is for a reason so let's try to answer this question.

In our game description we state that Clan N is a mixture of today's modern brawlers with old time arcade beat em ups and this reflects to the core gameplay mechanics. The old beatemups mostly play on 2D horizontal gameplay area, contains a bit of a slow paced movement characteristics and rely on mashing the punch button more leads to win formula. On the other hand, today's modern brawlers, with the 3D gameplay area prove more freedom on movement, got more tactical with heavy reliance on block and dodge/roll mechanisms as well as speed up in pacing. Also in older games where you could play 2 - 4 players together the modern games mostly turned into one player experiences. With this idea, we constructed Clan N as ; feeling tight and slick, have the ability to dodge/roll and block from enemy attacks anytime you want and have the ability to play in a 3D area with multiple users. This also reflected the look of the game since with 4 players and enemies along the screen, you need enough play space to use the abilities mentioned above so this made the game items a bit smaller than what people get used to. On the other hand, this also gave a unique character to the game so it's became a win win situation ːsteammockingː.

Let's dive a little more into the gameplay aspects. As expected, you have light and heavy attacks bound to different buttons/keys. A combination of light/heavy attack button/key taps allows you to create different combos such as uppercut, air to ground punch, shoulder dash, etc. Combos can only be created while you are hitting an enemy and if you get a hit, it'll get reset. This combo hits does also increase your hit amount which you can see under your character HUD and the more hits you make, the more points you'll add to your score. Not only this, each hit increases your damage you make onto your enemy when you hit so a first hit will be much less effective than the one you make at 15 hits.

Charge attack is an attack type which is used for automated quick hits to your enemy once activated. It has it's own meter under your character and fills up with every hit you make to enemies. To activate it, you can hold your heavy attack button/key and once you see a tornado character around your character, it's ready so you can just release the button/key to slash the closest enemy you have.

Another item is the throwable shurikens/knives. Simply tapping the throw button will throw a shuriken/knife into the closest facing enemy and it feels so satisfying to do so! Don't forget that these are limited so use them wisely and collect them through the levels or buy them from the shop. Another neat feature of these shuikens/knives can be attached to ropes, if you hold the throw button rather than tapping, this allows you to pull the hit enemy into nearby to attack him/her further and whenever I do this, I always feel the need to say get over here, I wonder why !?!?! ːsteammockingː

And the last item is a must for every beatem up, your special attack. Each character has it's own unique attack as Akira bening the master of Lightning, Reina beign able to control the Ground to Punch, Daiki being able to create Tornados and Tarou being able to call his Dragons to burst flame into enemies.

Once again we reached the ending of our another gearing towards the release post series. We hope to see you next time again with hopefully a very happy news! Till than, #StayHome and #KeepGaming...

Gearing towards the release - Part 2

Hello Everyone,

Greetings once again and hope that all you are well.

The Release

First the bad news, we still cannot give you the exact release date yet, apologies for that once again. Apart that, as part of the business, we almost finished all marketing materials as well and you may notice some of them from the updated screenshots which represents the game in final form. Our release trailer is also ready waiting for the release date to be attached before the reveal and than there are some more items which we keep as secret for now!

Who is Clan N

Clan N is an ancient samurai group in the region of “Far East”, sworn to protect the realm from all who seek its destruction. The four group members consist of the shinobigatana-wielding ninja Akira, the staff-striking Reina, the dual sword-swinging Daiki, and the sickle-slashing monk Tarou.

After years of training and dedication to their respective craft, each character has uncovered their own unique magical abilities. Akira shoots pulse-filled lightning bolts, Reina controls the ground with vicious earthquake shocks, Daiki swirls up brutal tornado waves, and Tarou can call for the help of Dragons.

The Story

Akuji is a former samurai of the Clan N that discovered the balance of the world lies in three areas: Peace, Knowledge, and Time. Akuji found that if you knock the world of one of these, you can harness the powers of “spiritual imbalance” and grow stronger from it. As a result of pursuing spiritual imbalance, he was shunned from the samurai temple and kicked out of Clan N.

What Akuji didn’t know was that attaining spiritual imbalance would not only give you dark powers, it consumed your light and the purity of your life. Following his banishment from the temple and Clan N, Akuji was able to destroy peace by slaughtering villages and retain the power of those he killed, thus absorbing conflict and electric sorcery abilities, becoming the most powerful sorcerer warrior in the Far East. While he continued to grow, Akuji formed Seishin Gun, the spirit group, to join his conquest and remove anyone standing in their path.

Once his actions were discovered by Clan N, they set on a journey to stop the villainous pillaging by Akuji and Seishin Gun.

The Content

Continuing from our last post, here is further information about the levels in Clan N :

Level 3 - The Unnamed Land

Leaving the vermillion caves, emerge into the sunless lands of the unliving. Blooming through the moonlight, the undead thrive & rise again. The unnamed land is just that, an unspoken realm that bewilders the living. Sacred ground or hellbound, no one truly knows.

Level 4 - The Village

Surviving through the fuming lands of the undead, you’ve finally reached a prospering land, where dragons and dogwood flourish. Pretty sure nothing could slither its way out of this lovely little village, enjoy the gentle hostilities... hospitality, that is.

Again we reached the ending of another post. See you again in our next gearing towards the release post!

Demo update...

Hello Everybody,

As promised, we are happy to let you know the immediate availability of the final demo of Clan N. We currently named it as Beta in case there is any bug hidden that needs to be squashed but otherwise, it represents the final game.

Here's the full list on what is new on the demo :

- A new fancy intro, yeah! ːsteamhappyː
- Full keyboard support along with the previous controller support. Only one player can play via the keyboard so for any others, you still need attached gamepad(s).
- Multilanguage UI support.
- Your demo progress is now saved. Although it's not that long of a journey to complete, if you happen to leave it before completion, you now have the option to continue from where you left off.
- Ability to play the first level's minigame, Dodge the Rocks, in standalone form, which is perfect for solo or multiplayer highscore attemps. But, don't forget that, all minigames first need to be unlocked through the campaign in order to play as standalone!
- Ofcourse, it also contains the fast paced, addictive hack'n'slash gameplay in final form you glimpsed in the previous demo. ːsteammockingː

Hope you'll like what you see and don't forget to let us know if you notice any bug or sort! We'll get back soon again with exciting more news while we are gearing towards the release, until than, take care, stay home and keep gaming!

Gearing towards the release - Part 1

Hello Everyone,

It has been a little while since our last post and we are getting closer to the release. While waiting, we wanted to start a series of postings titled "Gearing towards the release" where we would like to provide you the latest news about the release as well as various information regarding Clan N's content and development story/materials. So, let's begin than :

The Release

It's obvious we are going though one of the toughest times for humanity and this reflects to bussiness as hard as it does in other areas. There's quite a bit of delays on certifications proceedings which affected us quite hard on our timing. Add that our little errors which causes further delays on this process. Still we are doing our best to have this done as soon as possible so we can do a simultaneous release as we always anticipated.

Still, we are eager to show Clan N to you as soon as possible, so, we'll be updating our demo next week to it's final form to give you a glimpse on the final product ːsteamhappyː.

The Beginnings

It's quite hard to believe that it has been 6 years when we decided to do a hack'n'slash/brawler/beat'em up game which would feel quite retro as well as modern by combining best of the past and today. It was clear that to achieve this ; a pixel based graphics style with a 3D like playfield and slick/fast paced gameplay. By this, we also thought we could fullfill the most wanted how you remember your old games played feeling. After some trial and errors, we came up with this first mockup on how the Clan N world should look :

It was spot on and you might notice how religioulsy we stciked on it. Along the way we made some small size adjustments but apart that, everything stayed as it was imagined from the beginning.

To be honest, not everything was straight forward as it looks and Clan N might have become just another 2D beat'em up game, albeit a classy one, like this :

There were even some lackluster attempts which, god forbid ːsteammockingː , didn't make into the game :

The Content

In a previous post, we gave you the backstory of the Clan N universe so now it's time to look into the content inside the game you'll go through on your journey :

Level 1 - The Wilderness

Travel through the Wilderness is the first part of your journey.

Level 2 - The Cave

That's all for now again folks. See you soon in our next gearing towards the release post!

Achievement Unlocked!

Hello Everybody,

First and foremost, we sincerely hope that all of you and your loved ones are safe and secure in these though days. We're going through historic days and hope that it'll get over soon so we heartfully support to #StayHome and #KeepGaming.

Today, we are proud to announce that we have completed the development of Clan N on all planned platforms/channels. It has been a rough last few months struggling to get everything in place (looking at you multiplayer features ːsteamfacepalmː) but we finally managed it ːsteamhappyː.

You may now ask "so, when is it going to be released?" and although this is a big step forward, we still need a bit more time becuase of all the certification/QA process it'll go through on all platforms/channels the game will be available and due to the current conditions, things are going to be a bit slower than they used to be at this stage. We already experienced in the steps involved in this process so expect a minimal error on our side but stil there may be cases which we might not have noticed. If everything goes as expected, we anticipate a simultaneous release during May 2020!

In the following days, we'll share more content with you, including a brand new final demo and a final release trailer once the date has been determined so stay tuned!

We would like to thank all of you for all your support + interest so far and hope to get back to you very soon with the next update!

Introducing our mighty Bosses...

Hello Everybody,

As promised in our last post, we are proud to bring you our latest trailer, named Bosses Trailer, which should introduce you the mighty bosses during the long journey you'll take in Clan N world.

We hope you'll like what you see and don't hasitate to let us know any of your thoughts! ːsteamhappyː

It's so silent around here...

Hey Everybody,

We recently realized that it has been quite some time since we posted an update about the progress of our game hence reflecting the title of this post ːsteamfacepalmː. Please accept our apologies on that matter! We are a pretty small indie shop as you know so sometimes it gets pretty hard to catch up with everything that you should.

Anyway, let's get into the good news, the game is now in a fully playable condition from start to the end ːsteamhappyː. We have concentrated on tweaking the gameplay/balance lately along with a hard work on Online Co-op portion to make it as close as possible to the local couch play. We now understand much better why many games skip the online coop support as we spent more than a few months to get it work properly. It required quite a bit of work and adjustment but at the same time we believe it'll add a lot to the experience so the months we spent on it will be worth in return. Since we are also targeting for a simultaneous release both on PC and Consoles, quite a bit of work on porting is also underway where the game is playable on all platforms as well, though there are still specific details to be done.

You may be asking, with all these up to date info, where does this bring us regarding the release date? If you check the release date section as of today, you should be seeing Q4 2019 which is almost over. We're sad to inform that we won't be able to make it into that range but into January 2020, so not far off from target ːsteammockingː. An exact release date will be announced at he new year beginning along with the release trailer. We'll be also updating you much more frequently until the release starting with the Bosses Trailer next week, so stay tuned...

After all these boring text, you probably would like to see some more visual hints on upcoming things so let's peek a few items from the upcoming Bosses trailer :

Along your long journey, you may face quite friendly animals in the sea world :

And can be guest to hospitable city residents :

Hope you liked what you saw and see you soon in the next post!

The story so far...

Hey Everybody,

Today we would like to reveal the story of Clan N and give you more info about the characters and world the game is based on.

About Clan N

Story

About the characters

Reina and Daiki grew as siblings in a southern samurai clan. Reina was not taught the teaching of the clan like her brother Daiki but still observed and learned the ways mastering the staff. She eventually took onto Shamanism as well becoming one of the first shinobi shamans in the land as a young woman.

Akira was a childhood friend adopted into the clan as a lost child wandering in the outer lands chased by a pack of wolves, barely making it to the village. Daiki’s father took the child in and raised them, although Akira typically covers himself from head to after severe scarring.

Tarou was from the same monastery as Akuji (prior to his joining of Clan N) and learned under the same teachers. Akuji returned to the Monk’s temple many years later and stole an ancient scroll that explained how to destroy the pillars of balance and extract their spiritual imbalance. In pursuit of Akuji, Tarou traced his steps to Clan N. After explaining the situation to the existing three members, they all decided to team up and take down Akuji.

And that's all so far. Hope you liked it and keep providing your feedback to us, either through here or by joining our Discord channel, it means a lot for us. Until next time!
