Oculus Support!

Oculus Support

I finally got myself a Quest 2, I can now test my games on the Oculus. There's still perhaps some polishing I want to do for both the Oculus and Vive but things are progressing nicely.

Fixes

  • Fixed a bug that would cause a drone to spawn before round start in the shooter mini game
  • Fixed teleportation on Oculus and (probably) on the Valve Index... Still don't have an Index ːsteamsadː
  • Fixed a bug that would slow down the walk speed if the player looked straight up or down

Thank you everyone for sticking around! It's been a lot of fun so far working on this project. Hopefully I can finish this off before the end of the year.

Another Big Update

New Engine Version!!

I updated from Unreal 4.19 to 4.26. This came with a lot of things to fix but will allow me to use more engine features and plugins. This also seems to have effected physics a bit so the carnival games will play a little differently.

Changes/Additions

  • Changed wall and ceiling colors in apartment.
  • Updated the lighting again for all the maps.
  • Added a more proper controls board in the starting room.
  • Added collisions around maps so players can't walk outside the play area.
  • Added a bounding box around play area. If a player is outside of it for 5 seconds they'll be teleported back to the play space.
  • Changed the spectator screen away from a full screen capture. This will increase performance.
  • Set the controller model to a more generic one rather than being a Vive controller.
  • Holding the grip buttons will reset player position to starting location.
  • Changed the drone glow color to yellow in the shooter mini game.
  • Added a new text effect when a drone is destroyed.
  • Changed the amount of bottles knocked to reset from 12 to 8. With the physics change and the removal of a ball it made it pretty difficult to get to 12.
  • Some new easter eggs ;)

Steam Leaderboards

Added leaderboard support. You'll find the leaderboards in game in the shooter game and in the carnival at ring toss and the bottle knock games. If I get more time I may add in filters for friends only, and possibly pages.

Fixes

  • Fixed nav mesh in all maps with teleportation.
  • Fixed swapping items between hands.
  • Fixed collision issues with various apartment meshes.
  • Fixed healthbar on guns in shooter game.
  • Removed some unnecessary dynamic effects from both the tutorial and main base vending machine level that improved performance A LOT.
  • Fixed sound concurrency for certain physics objects.

Added Inputs

I added inputs for the Valve Index and Oculus. I won't go as far as to say they're actually supported since I can't test them myself but the inputs are hooked up... They should wooooork? For the most part. Give it a shot if you have one of those but like I said, not actually supported. With that you can switch the controls board in the starting room to view your devices controls.

Coffee VendoR is getting there, just a couple more updates until I'm satisfied. It's been a long journey, thanks for everyones support during it!

Movement And Optimizations

New Movement System

  • Players can now choose between teleport and smooth locomotion in the "main menu" map.
  • Using smooth locomotion you walk with the left pad.
  • There's now also a rotate button. Using the right pad players can rotate.
  • In the "main menu" map players can choose rotation amounts between, 15, 30, 45, and 90 degrees. Or they can turn off snap turn for smooth turning.

New Shooter Gun Model

Better Lighting Builds

  • Apartments has gotten increased lighting fidelity.
  • Carnival has also received this lighting improvement and has also been changed to night.
  • The vending machine has also gotten lighting improvements.

Other Changes

  • Made a lot of optimizations, in general the game should run a bit better.
  • Fixed some player collisions in Apartments.
  • Made the vending machine a tad bit smaller. I didn't realize how big I made the area until I played in a smaller playspace. I may even work on making the components of the vending machine moveable.
  • Added some new little easter egg props.
  • Made the mini games more consistently track high scores.
  • The bottle knock mini game now has one less ball.
  • Added a framerate limit. Before the GPU would be working very hard to get even more frames despite having more than enough. This will reduce your GPU usage without impacting gameplay.
  • Removed the settings board. I'll have to rework it a lot before I re add it.

I can't stress enough at how poorly my code has aged ːsteamsadː I've spent A LOT of time just cleaning up old code and scratching my head at my past self.

Once everything is properly optimized and I get that last minigame in there I will likely stop development for Coffee VendoR. I've been spreading myself a little too thin lately. If you include my "real job" at the studio I've been trying to work on 4 projects at once and it's just not sustainable.

Thanks for everyones support.

Now with (some) music!

Hello all! This has been a very fun launch and I've enjoyed reading what everyone has to say about the game.

One of the more recent pieces of feedback I got was from Ben Plays VR, a Youtuber. He suggested the game could use some music so I got working on that earlier today and just finished.

You can now make your coffees with some nice tunes! You can switch between a few songs. Music by Eric Matyas at Sound Image

Thanks again everyone! With the minor bug fixes and gameplay tweaks out of the way I can finally start working on the next mini game!

Moar Gaems!!

I've finished a new mini game for the second teir TV, it's Goose Slayer! Another totally original idea by yours truely... Please be gentle, Nintendo.

It's pretty basic right now, the geese get faster the higher the rounds get and there's not really a menu yet. But it's pretty neat.

Less than two days until release and I think I'm about ready for a nap.

More mini games!

New Mini Game!

I've just finished a new mini game you can play on the lowest teir TV in your apartment. It's 2D Table Tennis... Totally not lke some other game you might've seen before.

I hope I can finish at least one more of these for the teir 2 TV before release. If you have any suggestions for a fairly simple 2D game to play on the TVs let me know!

Less than 3 week until release!! ːsteamhappyː
