Cold Shell dev progress 2021

Hello!

First of all, I wish you all a happy new year!


I rarely post to Steam, but here is a Cold Shell update, to keep you informed.

Main story quests are 100% complete now (but lack some small arts here and there). So yeah, one can start a game and walkthrough it all the way to the end credits. Here is a spoiler-free ending screen.


Arena selection screen has the enemies' art updated. It has 9/10 battles ready now, i have to finish the last one. 90% done.


Controls customization screen. I've heard more than once that people may want to change the controls. It's rather hard to implement (for a not-so-skilled person as myself). BTW for the default controls i've taken keys from emmm... a very popular, classic, top-down game that has melee combat, lakes of blood and drug references. But anyways, you will be able to select your own keys in the game, yay!


For more transparency each skill's description will now show you more info on damage you can deal (or HP you can heal). E.g.: instead of "strong bash" it's now "x4 DMG bash".


I still have a few side missions to finish, bugs to fix, and boring technical stuff to do. But i can finally see the finish line ahead of me. Steam release date is updated to 2022 (obviously). And i will keep working towards finishing the development sooner than later.

Cold Shell dev progress

Hello everyone!

I haven't posted on Steam for awhile. But the development of Cold Shell is going well. Let me give you a short list of current progress so far:

  • - main story is 90% complete (i am focused on the final act 3)

  • - secondary missions are 60% done (they take less time to create, but are based on main missions assets)

  • - room customization is 100% ready (all the art is ready and implemented in game)

  • - battle system, active skills and passives are 95% ready (it all works, but needs more balancing)



I am not certail about any release dates. And i hate giving any false promises. But I move steadily towards the release.

Minor demo patch

Just a minor update to make the demo more tidy

* Fixed a few typos in the quest texts
* Removed the red "save warning" sign, that sometimes spawned for no reason in the room

Just as the title says. I still can't believe it myself.
Cold Shell made it to the top 10 Players Choice - Best Upcoming at IndieDB.
I've added the medal to the awards section of the game's page with a link to the article, in case you want to check it out.

That is huge for a small indie dev like me. And i can't thank enough all the people who voted for Cold Shell.



I keep working on the game. The COVID-19 landed a heavy hit on the development near the end of 2020 when the (only) artist got sick for 2 months. But he's fine now and we are returning back to normal.

I work on the act 3 (of 3 acts). Acts 1 and 2 are mostly dev complete, with some art pieces missing. I still can't name any release dates yet, because my previous fragile schedules were shattered by all that 2020 mess we all had.

Small fixes for the demo

DEMO patchlist:
* bridge boss could attack too fast on some systems, not any more
* added an Interference on the map screen in room, when the protagonist is ready to fight - for visibility
* tutorial levels now have the "light" correctly connecting the hint button to the skill icon
* made the "stop music" levels' exits wider - for a more comfortable mission completion
* now some texts under the quest banner will fade a bit, for a better look

Also, those fixes will be included to the full version.
