Company of Heroes 3
CoH3 Hot Fix 1.0.3 - February 28, 2023
This patch is focused on Progression Blockers, Crash Fixes, and a major Audio pass. We're targeting another hot fix for next week.
General
Fixed an issue where Steam Cloud settings were overriding Client settings and causing settings menu to default between play sessions. Settings should now persist between sessions. Please take some time to review your settings again after downloading this patch.
Fixed a crash “TacticalPauseVisualUIInfo” while using Tactical Pause.
Fixed an issue where users were getting high frequency de-syncs in multiplayer.
Campaign
Improved Cinematic resolution, some videos were playing at a lower resolution than intended.
Salerno
Fixed an issue where a Unit gets stuck stationed on a ship and is unable to deploy.
Fixed an issue that prevented progress when the enemy company attempting to recapture Salerno is attacked.
Fixed a progression blocker where destroying the enemy company that is meant to attack Salerno prevented the completion of the "Defend Salerno" objective.
Fixed a “Action_finish” crash that occurs during the Defend Salerno Mission.
Fixed an issue where a player can't complete an objective by upgrading a strategic point if a territory has been recaptured.
Anzio Annie
Fixed a crash “Group_GetPosition” when Anzio Annie kills a specific unit during the mission.
Fixed a progression blocker where capturing Anzio without combat does not complete the objective.
Improved the dialog and warning messages from General Buckram around Anzio Annie.
Audio
Improved High Dynamic Range mix.
Stabilized Audio Playback, improving instances where audio drops out on Medium or Low settings in the late/high pop cap stages of a game.
CoH3 Hot Fix 1.0.2 - February 27, 2023
These GPU crash fixes aim to address the largest portion of our current crash rate and instability. We will be monitoring our crash rate after releasing this patch and determining if we need to rollback. Please report and continue to send us Bugsplats.
We are targeting another hotfix this week and are still working to confirm those fixes. The 1.0.3 hotfix will include an Audio pass, along with addressing progression blockers and additional crash fixes.
Note: Mid-mission saves will be invalidated after all patches and hot fixes. Please revert to a previous autosave to continue your progress. We will do our best to minimize the frequency of patches while also providing estimated release dates.
Stability/Crashes
Fixed a rendering issue with shadows flickering causing instability in the GPU.
Reduced building textures flickering when zooming in & out and moving the camera.
Fixed window sizing crashes on the GPU when using ALT +TAB, ALT + ENTER, and/or minimizing the game.
CoH3 Hot Fix 1.0.1 - February 24, 2023
Please continue to submit Bug Splat/Crash reports, as a developer will read every single report, it provides us with much-needed information for us to resolve issues swiftly. We plan to have another hotfix on Monday, February 27th, patch 1.0.2, which is focused on three major issues with stability.
Stability
Fixed a crash when players ended a turn in the Dynamic Campaign Map.
Gameplay
Afrikakorps Armored Reserves Deployment Upgrade cost from 150 Manpower and 50 Fuel to 200 Manpower and 150 Fuel.
Afrikakorps call-in Costs increased for Assault Groups to 600 Manpower, and 80 Fuel.
Afrikakorps Tiger cost from 900 Manpower to 800 Manpower and 180 Fuel.
Increasing the build time of Afrikakorps Panzergrenadier Squad from 13 to 25 seconds.
Fixed an issue where American AI overused recovery vehicles if they took the Armored Battlegroup.
Campaign
Due to the complex nature of these features, we are expecting some rare edge cases at launch, which we hope to address in the days ahead.
Fixed a progression blocker when destroying bridges in the Benevento Mission via Italy Campaign.
UI/UX
GUC (Global Unit Control) no longer resets its position to the bottom left when entering a new match
Fixed an issue where cinematics was not triggering correctly at the start of the North African Operation.
Fixed an issue when party lead is passed to a player, they are unable to create or join custom games.
Fixed an issue where "Single Player" label is greyed out after an automatch game
Server Error no longer occurs when Quick Match search is started for a party consisting of more than one player.
Graphics/Rendering
Please make sure your graphics driver is up to date.
To use Ultra Texture settings you need a GPU with minimum 16 GB of Memory. High needs 8GB of GPU Memory. We are working on lowering the Ultra requirements after launch.

Where should I start? When you first launch Company of Heroes 3, you will jump straight into our tutorial mission. (You can exit this from the menu at any time by pressing ESC and selecting Quit to Menu. You can access it again under the Singleplayer menu if you want to play it once more). After completing this, you’ll be greeted by the Main Menu. For first-time players, we recommend starting with the Italian Dynamic Campaign as this also features several tutorials to help you get going. For our returning players that want a more linear singleplayer experience, feel free to start with the North African Operation. Longtime multiplayer fans and coop players can access automatch for both of those modes right from the Main Menu, or you can create your own Custom Game lobby at any point. Custom Games are also how you’ll be able to setup games with mods from the Steam Workshop.
How do I invite my friend(s) to play with me? Click the Social button from the in-game menu. From there, you can search from your online friends. You can either start an in-game chat or invite them to form a party.
Where can I meet others to play with? Our official Discord server has a dedicated ‘Looking For Group’ channel, along with auto-generated voice channels for you and your squad!
Where should I leave my feedback? You can leave your feedback on our official forums here. We plan to spend a bit more time gathering your feedback before we discuss future updates, patches, and fixes. Our goal is to allow you the time to explore and experiment with CoH3 so we can identify the top areas of feedback. We plan to follow-up in a few weeks to address as much as we can! Any emergencies or critical issues we will address as soon as possible.
Where can I find the Known Issues list for Company of Heroes 3? We will link the Known Issues list here once we publish it on release day.
How do I report a bug I found in Company of Heroes 3? We greatly appreciate all your help finding and reporting bugs so that we can continue improving CoH3. You can leave a bug report by filling out this form here. Be sure to select Company of Heroes 3 under Game or Service and Report Feedback or Bug under Nature of Enquiry.
I’m having trouble redeeming Company of Heroes 3 on Steam. Please reach out to Steam’s Support team here.
I’m having a technical issue with Company of Heroes 3. What should I do? You can find our Knowledge Center here, which outlines the answers to many technical, account and support related issues. You can also contact our Customer Support team directly here.
I’m having an issue with one of the items in the pre-order DLC packs. What should I do? Please contact our Customer Support team here.
How do I report or block another player in-game? Right click a player’s name from any in-game menu. From there you can select Block to avoid future interactions with that player. To report them, click Report and fill out the form with all the relevant details.
Why are certain graphics settings unavailable in my settings menu? To access 4K resolution and the highest texture settings, please ensure that you are using a GPU with 16GB of memory or more.
Where can I see my statistics? You can find our Leaderboards here. Data will slowly begin to populate in the leaderboards after launch.
How can I take cool screenshots? By default, you can use the shortcut CTRL + SHIFT + / to toggle Screenshot Mode and hide the game’s user interface. In any singleplayer game, Tactical Pause (pressing spacebar) is your friend! Along with this, in any mode you can hold the ALT key and move your mouse to change the camera angle. Use your mouse’s scroll wheel to control the zoom. Share your best screenshots with us using the hashtag #CoHCommunity and you could be featured in our next Wire Report!
How can I watch a replay file in-game? Though we are still working on the 1.0 version of our Replay feature, we understand not having this at CoH3’s launch makes creating content, hosting tournaments, coaching, etc. more cumbersome. For now, you can make use of a workaround to force the game to play a replay file. Note: this method is not fully stable and could result in playback desynchronization, crashes, or other issues. This workaround will not allow you to see the perspective of both teams.
When you complete a multiplayer, coop, or custom game, navigate to the playback folder on your computer. It should be in a file path like this: MYNAME\Documents\My Games\Company of Heroes 3\playback
Your most recent match will be saved as temp.rec
Rename this file, otherwise it will be automatically overwritten when you play your next match
Right-click Company of Heroes 3 in your Steam library and select Properties
Under Launch Options, input the following argument string, and be sure to change “filename” to whatever you saved your replay file as:
-replay playback:filename.rec
Now, click Play on the game. It should now load directly into your replay file
Tactical Pause will work during replays
Where can I get started with modding Company of Heroes 3? Right from launch, Modding tools will be available to anyone who purchases Company of Heroes 3. More details on the modding tools will be linked here on launch day. Our team continues to work to improve the offering and capability of the modding tools, and much of that work will be based on your feedback and testing. So please leave your feedback on the forums! If you want to browse the mods that are available for CoH3 you can click the Mods tab from the in-game Main Menu or find the Steam Workshop here. We recommend checking out Janne's CheatCommands Mod to test and learn game mechanics!
The Deutsches Afrikakorps are a mobile and aggressive force that excels in mechanized tactics. Bolstered by a strong roster of Italian loyalist allies, the Afrikakorps strike fast, and never take their foot off the gas. Check out the trailer to see them in action.

We wanted to thank everyone who took part in our most recent Company of Heroes 3 Multiplayer Tech Test! This was our last push to test our online infrastructure and to nail down any pesky bugs and crashes before we launch on February 23rd. Over 154,000 players took part in the Tech Test, which was four times more than what we had for the Mission Alpha in July! We can’t thank you enough for helping us with this crucial step.
Over the course of the test, we received over 650 bug reports from the community through our new online form. Your testing also helped us identify crashes well before launch so that we can already investigate fixes. All these reports along with your feedback is going to help us deliver a great Company of Heroes experience when we launch just over a month from now!
Objectives & Results
So, what did we want to accomplish with this test? And did we achieve those objectives?
Test server load and overall stability. This includes things like match performance, player logins and overall matchmaking.
Test matchmaking queues and how they worked individually.
Test wider array of different PC setups, hardware and software compatibility, and game client stability.
Optimize the game by discovering and reducing crashes and bugs.
Test client and server-side maintenance and patching.
On all counts, this test was extremely successful for our team. We had 4x our estimated players and we had no server issues. Our average gameplay latency or matchmaking times were both lower than our targets, and we continue to look at ways to improve both. We were able to test over 1,400 different processors and video cards across different hardware setups, and we found and fixed several crashes related to configurations, rendering and game mechanics. Additionally, we found some fun bugs related to AI and economy exploits.
Our data also showed that certain GPU models that are slightly older were experiencing worse performance than they should have been getting. The Tech Test allowed us to identify this issue early, and we’ll continue to make improvements based on that player data and feedback. Our goal is to make the game playable on as many configurations as possible at launch.
After our first hotfix, we were also able to cut our crash rate almost by a third. We’re going to continue this work over the next month to reduce our crash rate even further. No game can ever have a 0% crash rate, but we can try to get close!
The team at Relic accomplished our goals with this test, but we also want to let you know how we plan to tackle your feedback.
Visuals
One of biggest topics of discussion during this Tech Test focused on the look, feel and readability of the game right now. First, the version of the game we used for the Tech Test was about a month old, and a major lighting pass wasn’t quite ready for this build of the game, but you’ll see updated versions in our upcoming Deep Dives. We’ve also identified a couple of key issues that were contributing to degraded visuals. For some users, game scaling was defaulting to a Low setting, meaning they were seeing subpar resolutions and blurriness. Additionally, we found two rendering and map bugs that were causing lighting shadow artifacts and missing terrain details, so we really appreciate everyone calling these out! We have most of these fixes internally already and look forward to showing the game again closer to launch.
Before: Tech Test with bugs
After: Latest version with bugs now fixed
Before: Tech Test with bugs
After: Latest version with bugs now fixed
Additionally, we plan to start vehicles in a state that is slightly more weathered, so they don't feel as 'clean' when they are first produced.
Before: Original vehicle starting state
After: New vehicle starting state - slight weathering
Reference: Full weathering state
Audio
There was a lot of discussion about CoH3’s sound design and some concerns that it didn’t quite meet expectations. We found an issue where Sound Output Quality was defaulting to Low or Medium for some players instead of High, which would significantly degrade the audio experience. We approached CoH3’s sound design with an emphasis on realism with gunshots and explosions having more of a “crack,” whereas past CoH titles had more of an old-school Hollywood “kapow!” Therefore, the team is re-working and optimizing several audio FX including cannons, machineguns, explosions, off-map artillery and more to give them that heavy impact. Not only that, but the team is working on the final audio mix and will be completely re-mixing the audio for all our tanks for launch.
Settings & Controls
We’re happy to be providing more quality-of-life options for players including things like WASD camera controls, customizable keybinds, and more camera settings. We did see that some players had frustrations when navigating those settings menus or when things weren’t controlling in-game as they were used to in CoH1 or CoH2. Your feedback has been critical in identifying those pain points, and we hope to improve on those systems post-launch.
Post-Launch
Finally, we know there’s been a ton of discussion about balance, systems, unit abilities and more. Though this recent test was more focused on testing our online infrastructure, all these discussions are giving us a head start on fixes, balance patches and quality-of-life changes that we want to address in the first few weeks and months after launch. We’re continuing to work on features and systems we know players want, and your feedback is helping to shape and inform what those systems look like, and we want to deliver them in the best state possible without compromising the core game at launch. We’ll have more news on some of those big post-launch updates as soon as we have all the details.
Be sure to keep your feedback coming in the weeks and months ahead, as that’s going to help us prioritize it and continue improving this game and franchise that we all love so much. From everyone at Relic, thank you for taking part in the Multiplayer Tech Test and we can’t wait for you to play the full game at launch.
British Forces Sizzle Trailer
The British Forces are a stubborn and efficient fighting force. Aided by their Commonwealth allies, the Brits can do it all - from digging in and weathering the storm, to striking out and punishing the enemy with a range of mechanized options.
Multiplayer Tech Test
Objectives & Intent
Welcome to the Company of Heroes 3 Multiplayer Tech Test! This is our last big development push before launch and we’re extremely excited to finally get it into your hands.
Your participation will allow us to prepare for launch by testing our infrastructure on a larger scale. The test also helps us identify new bugs and issues that cannot be caught without having thousands of people playing the game at the same time.
Your feedback during this test is critical. Though the game is essentially ready for launch, your feedback on your experience - everything from faction balance to units to systems and more - will help inform fixes and patches in the first few weeks and months of the game’s life. This will also help us iterate on quality-of-life improvements, feature priorities, future iterations of gameplay elements and content.
Test Objectives
Server load and stability
Match performance - server calls during matches
Logins - server is capable of handling large numbers of player logins
Matchmaking - server can match players quickly and efficiently based on our parameters
Queue testing
We will be changing access to certain game modes during the Multiplayer Tech Test to monitor how the queues work individually. This will vary with the number of players testing at any given point in time and will be communicated in Community Spaces (forums, Discord) and social media.
Client stability & compatibility testing
A large group of players testing the game with different PC set-ups will give us the chance to test a lot more hardware and software configurations than we would ever be able to do with our team. We will be focusing on learning about:
Hardware issues
Software configuration issues Crashes - We will be monitoring crash reports to ensure CoH3 is optimized for as many configurations as possible. Help us by filling in the Bugsplat report should you get one! Our team reads every single one of these and the more information we get, the better we can understand the issue.
Bug Reporting
With a large group of players, we are going to be able to discover new bugs and issues that we never had the chance to encounter during internal testing. This will help us squash as many critical issues in the launch window as possible. You can report a bug by going to this link. Be sure to select “Report Feedback or Bug” under “Nature of Enquiry.”
Client and server maintenance & patching
As we plan to support CoH3 for a long time, we are using this test to make sure we are ready to deliver updates and perform maintenance without a hitch. We will be testing this both on the client side (when you need to download a patch through Steam) and on the server side (when the update is deployed via our servers and downloaded in-game).
Available Features
Mission Zero – First time launch tutorial (skippable). Note that there are many tutorials and first-time-user tooltips that will not be present in this test, but you will be able to experience them at launch.
As this test is Multiplayer focused, Tactical Pause will not be available. However, at launch, Tactical Pause will be available in the singleplayer Dynamic Campaign Map in Italy, in the North African Operation, and in singleplayer Skirmish.

Player Feedback
For those that have been with us since we first revealed Company of Heroes 3, you know we want to hear your feedback and you know we take it seriously. Please share your thoughts and concerns, as that’s how we continue to improve CoH3 in the days ahead.
As a reminder, we won’t be able to make any major design, feature, or gameplay changes before our official launch on February 23rd. However, your feedback will inform future iterations, balance changes and patches in the weeks and months ahead. Our team’s focus for launch will be to squash any newly discovered critical bugs and crashes – anything that’s a showstopper. For example, if your game consistently fails to launch, that is something we need to know about so we can fix it before launch.

If you've registered before the test goes live on January 11th, you'll be notified once it has begun to download it. If you register after the test has started, you should be prompted to download it right away.
We'll have more information on the test, it's contents and an FAQ going live just before testing begins, so keep an eye out for that. Otherwise, we'll see you on the battlefield on January 11th!
