However, this time you won't just be watching the game...

...Because we are releasing the demo of Complex SKY in its current state during the showcase!

That's right, Complex Sky Demo is OUT NOW on Steam!

Please keep in mind that the game is still in its early-ish stages: this release is primarily aimed at enthusiasts interested in trying out the game's core gameplay loop and testing out its systems and ideas.
The gameplay and general progression are there, but we still need to experiment with new gameplay elements and balancing, and we will be taking your feedback to heart.

Devlog 2: Stand-out features in Complex Sky

Hello, architects of the future!

Last time we covered many different ways to build things in COMPLEX SKY as well as some core features behind construction. Today we will be taking a broader look at the game’s feature set in order to better understand its gameplay loop. Before we go on, please consider putting the game on your Wishlist:

https://store.steampowered.com/app/1549600/Complex_SKY/

Here is what the game will have in store for you:

— Progression & Customization

Complex Sky boasts both an endless Sandbox Mode and a progression-based Story Mode. In Story Mode, you will be tasked with advancing your civilization and meeting certain milestones, so we included some features to spice your playthrough up.

1. AI Cores.
Before starting your Single Player campaign, you will have to choose one of three AI cores that give you certain advantages and disadvantages. They are generated randomly with each new playthrough, giving you a new challenge each time.

2. Expanded difficulty settings.
In COMPLEX SKY, you have a whole slew of difficulty settings to choose from. Your final setup is also given an overall difficulty rating to give you a basic idea of how hard your run is going to be. Whether you want to relax or go 100% hardcore is up to you. Fiddle away!

3. Quests.
You can always build your city the way you want. However, those seeking a more guided experience can also do quests, just like in many traditional games! Completing quests earns you certain multiple-choice rewards, unlocks further quest lines, and also acts as a less intrusive tutorial to help you get your bearings.

— Logistics

COMPLEX SKY is as much about building as it is about maintaining what you’ve created. A lot of the game is spent managing your population and resources with their own sub-systems. Here are some of the highlights:

1. Inventory and transportation.
Most buildings in COMPLEX SKY have their own inventory: for example, producing something in a factory requires you to put the necessary materials inside that factory. Inventories can also be used as temporary storage.

This also enables you to set up transportation lines which carry goods and materials from one building to another. No need to drag your produce from a farm to a living apartment to feed your people, simply set up a supply chain and let the game do it all for you.

2. Population and population types.
Your living apartment blocks house your city’s population, which needs to be fed and taken care of. Growing your population is one of your main duties, as it also develops your civilization further, giving you certain perks as you go. More than that, COMPLEX SKY boasts multiple population types (such as workers or scientists), which have their own functions and can even evolve into other types! We will go into more detail about this mechanic at a different time.

This was just a light-ish showcase of the variety of features that will be present in COMPLEX SKY to give you a basic idea of what the game is all about and how it accommodates both hardcore and casual players.

We still have a way to go and a lot of features to cover (e.g. pollution levels), but we hope you’re now truly ready to put your thinking caps on when the game comes out!

See you in the next update and if you like what you see, you can check out the alpha build of the game on GameJolt and wishlist the game on Steam!

See you on cloud nine!

Devlog 1: High-rise Construction

Hello, city builder fans!

As the release of Complex SKY gets closer, we are going to look at one of the stand-out features of Complex SKY: verticality. Inspired by titles such as the movie Upside Down or the anime Patema Inverted, Complex SKY features sky-scrapers aplenty, which you can stack and build things on top of.

Before we continue, support us by adding Complex SKY to your Wishlist:

https://store.steampowered.com/app/1549600/Complex_SKY/

Unlike other city builders, Complex SKY doesn't provide that large of a gameplay area:

The building grid after acquiring a couple of area upgrades

However, this is done to focus the player's attention on building their city upwards rather than just expand it.

As of right now, most of the general structure of your city can only be created on the ground level. However, as time goes on, you will be able to build roads, pipes, and foundation tiles on multiple levels within the grid, making for a truly multi-tiered city.

There are also other ways to give your city more verticality:

— Modules

The game features an item type called modules, which are structures that can only exist when connected to other completed structures.

Outfitting the game's core building (highlighted in green) with various modules.

This means that if you can’t extend a building directly by stacking it up (such as a Basic Apartment), you can still modify it using a Module upgrade. Some of the modules can act as a base to build on top off, so experiment!

Wonder how much those islands can hold?

— Plants and trees

Some nature-related tiles can exist on multiple levels, even on roofs of buildings, making for some beautiful scenery.

Also, unlike many other games, you can even place some plants upside-down! Or even on the sides of buildings.

— Upside-down structures

Perhaps the biggest feature of the game is the ability to build your city upside-down, on the opposite side of your default landmass. This feature will become available once you research a certain upgrade after making enough progress in the game.

Reminds you of a certain inverted castle, doesn’t it?

Your typical buildings aren’t the only thing installed on the underside, however. It’s also housing some special structures that help keep your city afloat, figuratively and literally.

For instance, these lifters affect the total carrying capacity of your city. Use them with care! Currently this area of the game is in active development, with more to come in the future.

Hope you liked this general overview and are looking forward to more! If you like what you see, you can check out the alpha build of the game on GameJolt and wishlist the game on Steam!

DevLog #0 Dev Introduction and Demo is coming

Hi, I'm a sole developer of Complex SKY
A vertical automation floating flippable city/factory building in the sky
This is the first DevLog of me working on the game. I don't know how frequently the DevLog will maybe range for a few weeks to a month. It depends on my current workload and etc. etc.

Here is some backstory for the game. I was working on this game for almost 4 years and I have programming, 3d art, 2d art experiences as old as my game. I know how to program since 11 but at that time I didn't take it seriously, I can say I'm fairly new to this industry. Currently I started looking into marketing and that was very hard to get people into the thing I made. I am looking forward to making a new gameplay trailer that shows cool stuff in the game.

Demo is coming
The demo version of the game hasn't been in my plan since I started, so to implement the demo version it may take some time and I am working in parallel with a new gameplay trailer so it takes ever more time. The demo version will show some of the general concepts of the game like how to build a building in sky land, how to setup a factory to automate production items, how to setup item transport routes between buildings, how to automate research technology and how population system work in game. What the difference between demo and alpha version, the demo version will contain less game content to fit into around 1 hour of play time but have more new features. and it marks the end of an alpha version.

anyway don't forget to join Discord Server to talk with the dev, talk with others, report bug(s), suggestions and any feedback is welcome. The next DevLog will be how do I get a game idea or maybe something else that comes to my mind at that time. The Early Access will be available around Q4 2021 so wishlist and follow for future update.

Complex SKY Demo is coming

I already working on Complex SKY Demo version it actually a Alpha version
Anyway here is a nice gif from my testing city
