Ratings & Reviews

Hey tigers!

Hope you've all enjoyed the weekend and got up to many an adventure! It's just a quick announcement to keep you all in the loop about the development and that in the next update should hopefully be the new Cave level which will contain one objective map and one defense map. I am also starting work on an Airfield map which should be with you all in a month or two if all goes well!

On a side note, I have a little bit of a plea to all you awesome guys who have been Congo-ing it up since our early access release. Unfortunately, we have had a few negative reviews recently which has bumped us down to the 'Mixed' category which is pretty heart-wrenching for us to see and a scary shade of red. It's totally understandable that there are some bugs and some issues that need to be ironed out and we're working our hardest to get it complete and bug-free!

Our plea would be that if you like Congo and want to help see us through the development but haven't yet left a review, then please please do :) We'd love to hear it and it would be a great push to help us get Congo complete and push us out of the Mixed category!

If you have already left a review, then thank you so much! We're still super chuffed with all the support we've got so far!

If you don't like Congo :( then thats ok too, but please check back in a few months time and give it another try then and see what you think :)!

Thank you!

Apologies, Update delayed :(

Hey adventurers.

I have some bad news on the update! Unfortunately, despite our best efforts some nasty little bugs made their way into the last build. A lot of them have come from our transition to UE4.8. An example of one of these issues is bouncy demons, where the demons seem to bounce off each other.

Theres also an issue with brightness and correlation to graphics settings. We are working on getting these fixed, but unfortunately couldnt get the build ready in time for this weekend.

The team is also away for the next few weeks so we wont be able to get the update out for at least 3 weeks which we are very sorry to have to say :(

We hope you can work around some of the issues present in the current version such as the Steam voice chat blockage. We have fixed this, and its frustrating that we're not able to just get that fix out. But if in the meantime you were able to use skype or similar then that would work and we'll get this sorted soon!!

Thanks again for your patience :)

Update to UE4.8 and Progress Report

Hey Congo adventurers!

We have been hard at work upgrading to the latest version of Unreal Engine and like all big updates in technology, it comes with loads of issues!

The main issue we were facing was that the game would consistently crash on load. As you can imagine, thats a pretty big problem, but it took us quite a long time to narrow down what was causing the issue and luckily we've found it now and it's been sorted.

This has stopped us from uploading new updates to fix some of the issues you guys have been experiencing such as the Steam Voice Chat issue where UE4 was blocked the Steam Voice Chat and limiting you to only the in-game chat which ended up not working... This has since been fixed.

There has been some massive improvements to the navigation system in UE 4.8 that allows us to build the navigation dynamically with a minimal hit on performance. In the current version, the demons would get stuck at certain parts of the level that change dynamically... This is no longer the case.

We have also made improvements to the AI system which drastically improved performance and we've also made some changes to the aiming system which we hope make for a more intuitive experience, but we'll need your feedback on that when we hopefully publish an update this weekend!!

Thanks for reading and your patience! We'll keep you updated on the release date of the next update.

Feedback & Plans

Hello tigers! Thank you all for your feedback and contributions to Congo, we read every comment and review and it's really helping us focus on what needs to happen in the next few updates.

We are currently working on an update that should hopefully smooth over some of the issues people have been experiencing. One of the issues is optimization and the performance. We have just updated to a newer version of Unreal Engine 4.. We've gone from 4.5 to 4.7 and there's a number of features in this more recent version of UE4 that will directly affect the performance.

A lot of the performance increases will be through the foliage system, lighting system and the navigation systems which should increase frame rates. After v0.3a, it will be great to hear from you guys and see what differences it makes to you.

It also seems that a number of people have been experiencing crashes and gamefreezes. This is something we are determined to fix, if you have experienced a crash, please let us know by sending us the details of the crash and your system specs to support@theinnocentdevils.com

We'll be updating the options as well, increasing the number of resolutions available and trying to sort issues in fullscreen mode and other window modes.

Please don't hesitate to get in touch if there's anything you've experienced any issues playing Congo! :)

Thanks!

v0.3 Released & 50% off!

Finally, v0.3 is here! ...And to celebrate its arrival Congo is now 50% off for a week starting now! There's a ton of new stuff in this update, check it out and let us know what you think!

Here's a little breakdown of the new stuff!

New Objective Level
A brand new Objective level - Swamp Basin is available to play right now. Find and break open the fuel store and power up the backup generator.

New Defence Levels
Four new defence levels set in the Swamp Basin. Protect the objective and survive for as long as possible.

New Weapons
M16 - A powerful and accurate rifle that fires in a 3-shot burst but carries a smaller magazine capacity compared to the AK47. It also has a flashlight strapped to the barrel.

SPAS-12 - A semi-automatic shotgun that works well at breaking up large swarms of demons. Armed with flashlight it's the perfect anti-swarm weapon.

New Achievements
Six new achievements. Two objective based achievements and Demon achievements!

GPS Update now points to Players
The GPS now shows the location of your team mates. So now those honourable medics among you can track down a fallen comrade!

Rare Species
There are whispers of a few rare species of demon in the jungle. Collectors in markets will pay highly for their skins. Track down and kill an Albino and Brown-Spotted variant of the Demon!

Dynamic Navigation
The demon's navigation now updates at run-time which fixes a few issues where the demons wouldn't be able to cross certain areas of the map.

Brightness Setting
Added a new brightness system for those with dark screens. This option is accessible through the Options menu on the start screen.

Demon Sounds
Improved and added additional demon sounds for the scamp.

Fixed Crate Issues
Fixed weapon / ammo spawning issues that sometimes happened with crates.

Re-assigned Toggle Names key on Gamepad
You can now toggle Player names by pressing the Up button on the D-Pad. This used to conflict with Switch Weapon on Controllers.

Improved Machete Collision
The machete now works better when taking down Demons.

Fixed "Panic" Crash
Fixed a bug that would cause the game to crash occasionally when being attacked.

We hope you enjoy playing with all the new features whether a new player or one of the veterans :) We'd love to hear from you all!

Stirrings for v0.3

Hello Congo-ers!

Just a quick update today, to let you all know how development is going. We were hoping to release v0.3 but we've encountered a number of issues which means we have to postpone the release for another week or two.

We've taken this opportunity to combine a few other things we have been working on as well, to make v0.3 as juicy as possible, and substantial enough to welcome in the second Objective level and additional 4 Defense levels. We've also been working on some plans to bring more players to Congo, so those heroes among you who are dedicated to playing Congo will have more explorers to adventure with! We'll keep you all posted :)

If you've been pondering away with ideas to make Congo better, we'd love to hear them. Please let us know your thoughts!

Update v0.2d Released

Hey jungle adventurers! It's been an eventful few weeks, but we are now able to say we have released v0.2d (as you can tell there were a few developer versions before this release...) Not anything huge with this update, it's mostly to pave the way for the next update which will be a content-rich one!

Some of the updates and features of v0.2d:

Steam Achievements

There are now 13 Steam Achievements that you can unlock. We will be adding to these more and more as the game develops, but for now there are 13 to collect!

Control Menu

You can now view a list of controls accessible by pressing ESC or the "Start" button on Gamepad. Hopefully some of the more hidden functions will now be more obvious.

Show Player Names

You can now toggle to view player's names in-game by pressing Tab.

Fixed Unlimited Drop

Fixed a bug that meant that you could create infinite amounts of objects and items by dropping them.

Updated GPS

Updated the GPS to now only show the next relevant objective. Before, it would show all objectives based on distance, so would show you objectives that you couldn't access yet. Now you should only see the most relevant objective.

Bug fixes and Optimisation

Lots of little bug fixes and optimisations.

In the next couple of weeks, we will be releasing v0.3 which will include a new Objective level and four new Defense levels, at least one new weapon, new Achievements and more! :)

Grab a copy todayyyyyyy and survive the jungle.... :D

Also, v0.2a is outtt nowwww! We have updated our HUD. Quite a simple change, but we have combined the top "Ammo count" and the bottom stack of current weapons. Definitely a lot smarter and definitely a lot cleaner. Let us know what you think!

We have also fixed a number of bugs that were lurking around in v0.2 which included:

Mouse Focus
The mouse was sometimes not focused on the application which meant the first click could potentially click out of the game. This is now fixed.

Camera Lock after Inventory
The camera would sometimes lock after the inventory, but this is now fixed

'Take Ammo' Button
The Take Ammo button has now been set to the Alt key. This wasn't working in the v0.2 but now it is!

Mac-10 Firing
We have changed the way the Mac-10 fires. It is now a short burst weapon.

Smoothed Spectator Camera
We have made a number of tweaks to the Spectator mode which means the camera is now much smoother.

Hope you enjoy the few tweaks and changes. Feel free to let us know your thoughts on the Discussions page. We are working on the next update already and stay tuned for a new batch of levels including 1 new Objective map and 4 more Defense levels.

Update v0.2 Released

Finally! After a much longer wait than we first anticipated, we are now happy to tell you all that v0.2 is out now and available for you to download. There's some tasty new content, so here's a little breakdown:

v0.2 Changelog:

    <*>New Game Mode - Defense

Defense mode is a more traditional horde-style game mode where all 4 players must defend an objective for as long as possible, travelling out into the jungle where possible to collect supplies and equipment.

    <*>4 New Defense Levels

Four new levels for Defense game mode. Fishing Village, Mountain Checkpoint, Military Outpost and Old Market House.

    <*>Singleplayer Mode

We have made several changes to make a solo-play experience more forgiving by adjusting spawn levels and item drops. We have also introduced a new item to help survival

    <*>Hunting Knife

When equipped with a hunting knife, you have the ability to kill a demon once they have jumped you. This is a one-use item and can be found dropped around the jungle. In singleplayer mode you will start equipped with several.

    <*>New Demon Type

Making more of presence in the jungle now are a new type of demon. Smaller, faster, more agile but less dangerous than their bigger brothers, they dart out of the vegetation and knock you to the ground, leaving you vulnerable to further attack.

    <*>Spectator Mode

Watch your friends fail or succeed or be true heroes and revive you with the new spectator mode. Left-click to cycle through players and Right-click to switch between free camera or locked.

    <*>Voice Chat In-Game

Press T to chat with the other players in-game.

    <*>Update to Unreal Engine

Updating to the later versions of UE4 has brought a number of improvements and optimisations.

    <*>GPS Unit

The GPS unit can be used to find objectives and useful checkpoints. If somebody is out to scavenge weapons, give them the GPS so they can find their way back!

    <*>Re-work of Objective Mode

Objective mode has been altered. Originally, there were checkpoints which you could capture which gave you bonuses.. We found that actually these were confusing so we have now stripped them out and just made those areas more valuable for supplies. We have also reworked the introduction video and is now a little clearer.

    <*>Fixed Level Holes

There are always sneaky level holes! We've blocked up quite a few... Hopefully all of them.

    <*>Fixed Swarms and Spawners

There was a strange issue with spawners and swarms where they weren't escalating correctly. It was hard to gauge difficulty levels but now you should see a significant difference.... Good luck!

    <*>Foliage and Jungle Optimisation

We have stripped out all the jungle and replaced them with UE4's foliage tool. Should look and feel virtually the same, but is now more dense and should increase performance.

    <*>Bug fixes and Optimisations

Thank you all for your patience, let us know what you think of the new update. We will be doing smaller, more regular updates so stay tuned for what's to come. New features in v0.2a will be new in-game GUI, fully optimised Flare and a new system for sub-machine guns (plus the usual bug fixin'! :D)
