CSD: Battle Kitchen 3.01 Beta Update Now Available
Hey everyone! First off, thanks to everybody who sent in bug reports, requests, and general improvement ideas for the initial release of Battle Kitchen. The beta had way more bugs than I was expecting, so I've been busy nailing down every single one of them while improving the game further. This will potentially be the last beta patch before the update goes live for everyone, so if you have any bug reports at all, be sure to post them in the Steam CSD forums!
The update is rolling out right now, and here's the change log:
NEW ADDITIONS
Added option in the Delete Saves menu to delete your Battle Kitchen save. Deleting your Battle Kitchen save will NOT affect your main save in any slot.
Endurance mode now tells you which four foods you had on your menu for high score records, along with their upgraded star rating. This will only apply to future records set within this new patch.
The Hungry Festivities Ninja character is now unlocked for all Platinum Star restaurants.
You can now refresh the Weekly Challenge if it does not load properly the first time.
You now have filters for the sub-leaderboard in the Weekly Challenge menu.
Avatars are now uploaded via Game Maker Server so that your character will represent you on the leaderboards.
IMPROVEMENTS
Changed the way controller input is handled. When a gamepad is plugged in when launching CSD, you can press enter on the title screen to switch to keyboard controls, or press A/X to continue using gamepad controls. This also makes it easier to have gamepad and keyboard mixed control schemes for multiplayer.
Co-Op/Tag Team: Fixed issues with controller handling when an event or day is completed or failed. (All control is given to Player 1 when navigating menus.)
Adjusted achievement difficulty for character unlocks down to three and six character unlocks (from four/twelve unlocks originally).
Improved the way the game handles character unlocks after all the characters are unlocked (it no longer displays how many stars to go or bring up the wheel to spin after being awarded stars).
ENDURANCE MODE: Slightly increased starting difficulty and increased difficulty after 100 perfect combos and beyond.
BATTLE KITCHEN: Resets difficulty to Standard when finishing an Endurance or Weekly Challenge run, and keeps the chosen difficulty when in Strike mode.
BUG FIXES
Fixed the wrong menus being shown after completing a campaign day, leading to emails and weekly challenges overlapping each other.
Fixed the low tenderize sounds.
Fixed small bug with looping friar cook sounds when using gamepad.
TAG TEAM (All Modes): Fixed bug that allowed a player to reset the tag team clock and gain control back by pressing B/Circle.
TAG TEAM: Fixed bug when using different controllers (PS4 and XB1 together, etc.) which resulted in the wrong button prompts when "frozen."
CO-OP CAMPAIGN: Playing Extra Events (Catering/Iron Cook/Hungry Fest) is now supported properly in co-op mode.
CO-OP CAMPAIGN: Fixed issues when using a keyboard and gamepad together for co-op.
ENDURANCE MODE: Fixed hard crash when completing the mode.
ENDURANCE MODE: Fixed bug that compared single player records instead of Tag Team records for Tag Team Endurance.
ENDURANCE MODE: Fixed randomization issue with Endurance Mode that prevented unique randomized foods in the Risotto Calls each time you started up the game.
ENDURANCE MODE: Fixed bug that did not save blue star progress, causing it to reset to 10 combos needed for the next unlockable star each time the game was booted up.
WEEKLY CHALLENGE: Fixed a bug that caused too many zeros in leaderboard times, as well as times being shown in milliseconds instead of the proper format.
WEEKLY CHALLENGE: Fixed scrolling bug for Weekly Challenges leaderboards that did not assign the proper times to the correct user.
WEEKLY CHALLENGE: Prevented players from trying the Weekly Challenge if the challenge has not been downloaded.
WEEKLY CHALLENGE: Fixed a bug that did not halt the challenge when all foods were cleared, making it impossible to complete.
WEEKLY CHALLENGE: Installed some failsafes that helps Weekly Challenges to be downloaded properly.
CSD: Battle Kitchen Beta Now Available!
I'm proud to announce that the new big update for Cook, Serve, Delicious, which includes weekly challenges and local multiplayer, is now available!
Originally scheduled for later in the month, I wanted to get a portion of this game's massive update available as soon as I possibly could. So this is part one of two major updates coming this month. In this update, you'll get access to the Weekly Challenges, Endurance Mode, 12 Strike Challenges, Campaign Co-op, and all the engine and game improvements and additions outlined below. A second patch later in the month will add Tournaments, Versus and eSports modes, as well as finish up the menu designs and any gameplay balances needed.
Because of the enormity of this update, I decided to push it into a beta as I feel I need feedback to make sure the new challenges and modes are properly tuned before releasing it to everyone. To play this update, simply right click Cook, Serve, Delicious in your Library, select Properties, then click on the Betas tab and opt into the "Betas" group. The beta is PC only right now but a Mac/Linux version is coming early this week.
PLEASE MAKE SURE TO BACK UP YOUR SAVES, OR USE A NEW SAVE FILE FOR THIS BETA. Battle Kitchen has its own save file so you can unlock content in that mode across multiple saves, however like any beta saves can be volatile and it always pays to back up saves. For information on where to find your saves, visit this thread: http://steamcommunity.com/app/247020/discussions/0/864980153147332444/
Here is a list of improvements in this patch:
NEW FEATURES
Battle Kitchen Mode added! This new expansion is unlocked at the onset and is separate from the Campaign Mode. Some of the new modes include...
Weekly Challenges (1 player)- Leaderboard time based challenges with a new challenge each week!
Strike Challenges (1-4 players)- Take on twelve brand new challenges on your own or Tag Team with 3 others locally! For the first time Specialty Foods are mixed into these challenges, and the gameplay has been tuned to provide the most difficult waves of food yet. Select between Standard Difficulty or Extreme Difficulty for an ever greater challenge!
Endurance Mode (1-4 players)- How far can you make it as endless waves of food pour into the kitchen? Not only that, but calls from Chef Risotto has you upgrading and switching out foods on the fly, providing a unique experience that's unlike anything else in the game.
25 Indie Guest Stars- 25 characters from Indie Classics to up and coming great games have stepped into the Battle Kitchen! Unlock them by completing Strike Challenges, participating in a Weekly Challenge or going as far as you can in Endurance mode.
Campaign Co-op- play with a friend simultaneously in the main Campaign! One person cooks, and the other expedites the orders. Works with your current save and is a fun way to play the game with others!
All new Statistics Menu- Three pages of detailed data that uses your current save, from how many pounds of meat you've served to a breakdown of each food you've made.
Enchiladas have been completely retooled to be more user friendly and faster to prepare (no more wait times needed for frying tortillas).
You can now select specific recipes to practice on in Practice mode.
NEW ADDITIONS/IMPROVEMENTS (ENGINE)
Improved controller handling when plugging/unplugging a controller during a game. You can also navigate options and gamepad menus using the controller, and no longer need a mouse for first time gamepad setups.
A new "Load Game" option allows you to exit your current game to load a new save without having to quit and restart.
Utilized Game Maker's new audio engine and replaced all music with ogg files, so that there are now "clean" loops of music tracks.
Utilizes Game Maker's new engine improvements that addresses a rare bug that causes memory leaks for some video cards, leading to choppy performance over a short time.
Implemented new render modes. Originally an option for "High Rendering" allowed the game to render at 1080p once restarted. Now there are three options: Standard Render (displays the game at 720p), High Render (displays the game at 1080p, is the new default option), 2K and 4K renders (upscales the game for resolutions above 1080p). These can be changed on the fly and no longer require a restart. These options significantly improve graphical quality for both windowed mode and for monitors above 1920x1080.
Engine improvements should fix an issue for some users that lead to crashing when going to fullscreen.
You can now resize the game window in Windowed mode.
Improved audio cues for certain actions. Thanks to the Nerd3 Blindfold video that inspired me to make this slight adjustment!
NEW ADDITIONS/IMPROVEMENTS (GRAPHICAL)
UI overhaul on many menus to better illustrate options and features, including buttons and what can be manipulated.
HD assets added for food menu icons, email menu and other elements to improve graphical quality at fullscreen. Many food icons have been completely redone to better illustrate the foods as well.
Changed the visual look of the nachos, pizza, and burger bun tops for prep work.
Improved the six Food Pins design for achievements and in-game display. Also improved clicknstart/Love Chef achievement icons.
BUG FIXES
The game no longer saves the options when switching to fullscreen mode, preventing infinite crash loops for some users.
Finally solved the rare food bug issue that caused foods to be given to the player without purchasing.
Fixed the Steam Screenshot bug that caused odd outlines and incorrect alpha values in screenshots for Windows users.
The Perfect Combos meter now correctly displays combos over 99 during gameplay.
Gamepad input display for Pasta have been corrected (left stick prompts).
Smaller other bugs have been addressed.
KNOWN ISSUES
Avatars do not load properly in the Leaderboards, and the Leaderboards do not show mode specific to where you came from. You can simply toggle them via the button above the boards.
Endurance Mode final foods pictures do not load properly.
The initial Leaderboards section in the Weekly Challenge menu does not have a filter selector.
Gaps in between players (such as player 1 and player 3 joining a game without player 2) can cause issues.
Small other oddities will be addressed when the game is released outside of beta.

If there's anything I might have missed, please let me know below or in the forums. Thanks again and for a peek at just a few of the new additions and updates with this patch, check out the previous patch announcement.
(PC) CSD v2.49 BETA- Full Controller Support, New Game+ and tons more! Opt-in today!
Hey everyone, hope you're ready for more CSD cause' that's what I got! This is such a large content patch that I've opted to have it available as a beta first before rolling it out for everyone.
As this is a beta, be aware that there can be bugs and such that will not be a part of the final patch. BE SURE TO BACK UP YOUR SAVES, which will be detailed below. This beta is for Windows users only.
There is a long list of new additions and updates that I'll post once the patch is live for everyone, but here are some key areas that I want to focus on for this beta:
Controller support (DualShock 4, Xbox 360 PC Gamepad). Everything in the game has been reconfigured to support full controller functions. Unless marked, there should not be any instances where a controller doesn't allow you to progress or perform an action. The two exceptions to this are the options menu at the start of the game and the key binding menu. Rumble is also supported across all foods. Please let me know what you think of the controls, how you might improve them, and so on. They definitely take some getting used to, but have been fine tuned so that you can punch out orders as quickly as possible. It's my personally preferred control scheme at this point.
New Game+. As this is a new mode, it's always a bit dangerous to mess with code that can affect regular games as well, but I'm pretty sure everything turned out great. If you have a Platinum Star Restaurant, you can jump right into the NG+ mode. I'd love to get some feedback on difficulty and what you think about the new changes.
New code for buying/practicing foods. There was a bad glitch that has haunted this game since release that would gift players certain foods after trying them out...or worse, remove foods from their menu that they had previously bought. To kill this bug once and for all, I had to redo the entire code for buying and practicing foods. Please let me know if there's any kind of glitch when practicing, trying out, or buying foods. Everything should be good now.
The ability to replay the opening tutorial. This may not seem like much but originally I could not get this to work because of some old legacy code, so it wasn't available. Thanks to the new code for buying foods, I can finally add this feature. You can replay the opening tutorial via the Tutorials menu, and get a different version when using a gamepad. Again, let me know if anything doesn't look right after replaying the tutorial on a normal save.
Many assets re-rendered in 1080p. As a result of providing better assets for High Rendering/1080p, there could be a glitch that makes objects or text appear twice the size it should be, or seem abnormally large. This definitely shouldn't happen so let me know if you see anything like that.
New Quick Options menu in the title/save select screen. Pretty handy if you ask me! You can click the cog on the top right to access it in the opening menus only.
Garbage throwing sped up by 30%. Let me know if any glitches seem to occur when throwing trash.
Now I've personally played a bunch of this beta and feel like I've squashed all the possible bugs in this release, but there's always the chance I've missed one, hence the beta. Lots of bugs from older versions of the game have been fixed as well, which I'll post when the final patch goes live.
Note that this is not the performance patch that will fix the issues of progressive slowdown that some users have been experiencing. That is a bit more out of my control but I'm hoping that the new stable version of GM Studio will be out in the following month, which should solve the issue.
Please please give me feedback either in the comments below or in the community forums for the game. I really appreciate it! So, here's the three steps you need to take to opt into the beta:
STEP ONE: Backup your saves. It is vital you back up your saves manually as this beta has a number of game changing updates. To do so, first go to your C:/Users/(your username) folder. Then go to the AppData folder (if you do not see that folder, make sure the ability to see hidden files and folders is turned on). Now go to Local, then CSDSteamBuild, and finally copy all Ndata1file.ini thru 6 files to another location on your computer. You should also copy the BCKNdata1file.ini files as well.
STEP TWO: Make sure your email is confirmed with Steam. Steam occasionally prompts you to confirm your email address within the Steam client. You need to do this before opting into the beta, otherwise your cloud saves may become out of sync.
STEP THREE: Opt-in. Go to your Steam client, select Library, then right click on Cook, Serve, Delicious and select Properties. Click the Betas tab. In the code box, type in
iwantmoredelicious
and then hit Check Code. You should be accepted! Now click the drop down menu for the "beta you would like to opt-in to" and select v2_5 beta- Controller, NG+ Beta (3/31/14). Your download should start soon after.
I hope you all enjoy the beta, and for those waiting for the final version to update, it's gonna be worth the wait.
