We're currently in the process of reworking some of the art and visuals in the game, especially focusing on icons and character portraits. While we're still working on it, weโre excited to share that we've finished all seven beast portraits. We really wanted to show you what we've been working on, so here they are!

In anticipation of future updates, I decided to revisit Coridden. I started with a walk through Quilon's streets and then took a boat to explore distant shores.

Every adventure starts from leaving home. Our neighbour needed a bit of help. I watched the boats float in our little bay. I wasn't sure what she was looking at, so I came closer to investigate. It was potatoes. I attended some business in the main square. Then I immediately went to sell the valuables I traded earlier. I wished I could pet him, but he wasn't mine. These fish look dangerous. Like everything outside the city. I took a boat and went for a swim. Then I got attacked! Fortunately, I'm skilled with bow and spear! I explored some more, but got surrounded by beasts. So I turned into one. That didn't go too well... So I decided to change my equipment. That'll show them... next time!

But that's not all! We're lucky to participate in this year's indie event at the venue โ The MIX!
We've also got some updates rolling in, and we can't wait to share them with you! Our recent playtesting session was a success, and your feedback has been invaluable! We've been busy fixing bugs based on it, and working on completing the game's areas, environments, texts, and translationsโit's all slowly coming together ๐
To ramp up both challenge and fun, we decided to try out some changes to skills, items, and gameplay elements. Here's a peek at what's new:
๐ก๏ธ New Defence Stat for Armours
Armours (including beast forms) will now have a Defence stat. Defence is compared to the Level of the attacker. If you have a high defence, it will decrease incoming damage. Having a low defence compared to attacker level might lead to more damage taken.
We wanted to include this stat as something that every armour can provide to protect you better, even if that armour doesn't have damage resistance or reduction. This allows for more varied armours, such as an armour providing more ability power or energy regeneration instead of just protection.
๐ฉธ Wound Healing
Selected armours will now have a Wound Healing stat, allowing players to regenerate health while outside of combat.
๐ช Adjusted Death Penalties
Players will now lose money upon death, and the time required to revive an ally has increased slightly from 1 second to 2 seconds, adding a touch more challenge.
๐ฐ Economy Adjustments
We've reduced the overall money drops from enemies to make a more balanced in-game economy. We hope that as a result, completing quests will feel more rewarding and crucial to progression.
โ๏ธ Weapon Damage Balancing
We've adjusted both ranged and melee weapon damages to maintain a consistent challenge throughout the game.
๐ฒ Beast Form Items Drop Rate
We've increased the drop chance for beast form items.
๐ก๏ธ Expanded Inventory
We've added more inventory space, allowing players to carry more of their hard-earned loot.
โฌ๏ธ Enhanced Damage Resistance for Enemies
Enemies' damage resistances will now scale with higher difficulty levels and with more players in multiplayer mode. This change encourages varied playstyles and strategic builds among players tackling tougher challenges together.
๐ Improved Item Comparison and Stats Display
๐ธDamage is now compared directly, regardless of damage type, helping players make quicker, more informed decisions. ๐ธ If an item has more than one damage type, a total damage value will be displayed alongside a breakdown of each damage type's contribution. ๐ธWe've reorganized item stat displays to highlight the most important stats at the top, followed by a clear break before the rest, to streamline the comparison process.

We recently organized a Q&A session where we invited you to ask your burning questions on Discord, and we're thrilled to share the answers with you today! It was a fantastic opportunity for us to connect with our amazing community and provide some insights into what goes on behind the scenes ๐
We prepared a video of the entire session available for you to watch. But if you're short on time, don't worry! We've also summarized the key points in written form below. Enjoy!
Q: How did your team form up? A: It started a bit after Valle and I met. We met at the university, where we were studying Chemistry, so not quite Game Development back then. But Valle had an interest in Game Development since high school, so he was developing games. He had just finished a game project and was starting a new one, and he asked me for ideas and input. I started helping, and it eventually snowballed into us working together. Finally, we started a studio in 2018 have been doing this game since. The current team has been formed through first us, and then people we met on the way.
Q: How big is your team, and what are their roles? A: The core team that works on the game daily except us two, there are two more people. We've got Oskar who's been helping us with VFX, so he's like a technical artist, and we've got Gabi who helps us with the environments and 3D assets. But we also have people who help us with music, sound, 2D art assets, etc. Q: How did you find the idea of becoming what you kill? That's the most interesting and "exotic" feature of the game IMO! A: At the beginning, we only had one creature you could play as and shape-shift into a human and a creature. Then we added two more, so you could always shape-shift between four forms. But progession-wise, we felt like we didn't get what we wanted; We wanted to have more possibilities of progression with the beasts, and that's when we came up with an idea that they're not just something you have all the time, but rather an ability or an item. When you defeat a beast it can drop its form and properties, and you can pick it up and become it.
Q: Did you think at any point of the game about making some PVP features? A: No. We wanted to make a co-op game. PVP takes a long time to develop because it has to be very fair and extremely balanced. We felt like we wanted to focus on the co-op aspect and PVE rather than PVP. We decided very early that PVP won't be our focus.
Q: Were there any road blocks, either from the art side or programming side, that had to have a creative workaround for the issue(s) encountered? A: It's a hard question because, of course, we had some roadblocks here and there. We've been working on the game for so long that we tend to forget. But when we found problems with performance of the game, we had to come up with some workarounds or skip on some features. E.g. we always liked to have plenty of lights in our game โ creatures, humans, environments emit light, especially in the dark areas, so a lot of things had shadows. But it soon became apparent that the shadows costed the game a lot, and we had to cut down on them a bit. It affects immersion a bit, but for now, we felt like it was more important for the game to flow well. Our game is about precision - you have to time your attacks, etc., so we didn't want performance to suffer.
Q: For how long was Corriden in development? What took the longest time to make? A: We've been developing the game since 2018. We both started working on it part-time, but we started working on the prototype even before that. We were working and studying before that, so... I don't want to count the years anymore. But we've learnt a lot along the way. What took the longest? Programming! Not only to do the programming, but to learn it as well. When we started I did make some games, but they were small and in a different programming language. So it was more or less like starting from a scratch when we started working in Unity.
Q: What is your proudest moment of what you've currently developed for Corriden? A: It's hard to pick just one, but a whenever we went to conventions to show our game, then seeing people play it and have fun would make us proud and happy. Also, when someone plays it and streams it online or makes a video and has fun with it of course makes us happy! But the biggest milestone so far was that we managed to reach the goal for the Kickstarter. That was a really nerve-racking time and we're happy that so many people wanted to help us release the game. We'll be the most proud when we get to release the game!
Q: Will there be another playtest or will it be onto full release from here? A: Our last playtest was really good. We got a lot of reports on issues, and we're very grateful for them. We definitely want to squeeze one more. Maybe not necessarily in the same open form, but maybe for the Discord community and Kickstarter backers, so on the smaller scale. Can't promise it, but we'd love to!
Q: Do you have a future goal in mind for Aftnareld Studio such as develop at least one AA or AAA game? A: That's very hard to answer! If we got the opportunity - sure, but getting such an opportunity is really hard. You need a lot of money, and a lot of people, and it's a very big risk. Maybe we'll get to do a AA in the future, who knows, but AAA is probably out of our reach. It would be fun, though! We already have ideas for big projects! For now, our heads are in the indie space, but who knows, maybe after a couple of projects weโll be ready for something bigger.
Q: Those ideas that you've mentioned - are these more like Coridden 2, or something completely brand new? A: Right now, we're focused on Coridden, and we're thinking on how to expand on it in the future. We haven't decided yet if there will be Coridden 2 - it depends on what we feel like we've learned after releasing Coridden. What people liked and disliked and if there's more to explore there. We'll keep this one a bit of a secret. We'll see!

The Dynamic Quartet
Our very first key art introduced you to the Dayal siblings and their beasts forms. All four siblings were showcased in action, each displaying various fighting styles. This piece was all about dynamism and the raw energy of battle.
Jai Takes the Lead
Next, we brought Jai to the forefront. As the oldest of the siblings, Jai often takes on the role of the leader. We wanted Jai's intelligence and sense of responsibility to shine through. This artwork highlighted his shapeshifting abilities, with his siblings supporting him in the background.
Deviโs Moment
And now, we proudly present our latest key art, featuring Devi in the spotlight! Devi, the empathetic and observant second-oldest sibling, is depicted transforming into a beast. Behind her, you can see all the Dayal siblings riding beasts and wielding their favourite weapons. This piece combines elements from the previous artworks, showcasing both the individual strengths and the unity of the Dayal family.

As you know, we recently wrapped up the playtest of the Alpha build of Coridden. We were thrilled to have our amazing Kickstarter backers, selected creators, and those who applied through the Steam form join us. First off, we want to extend a huge thank you to everyone who participated in our alpha playtest. Your feedback has been invaluable, and we truly appreciate the time and effort you put into helping us improve the game โค๏ธ We've just turned off access to the alpha build, and we're currently compiling all the results. We'll be back with a summary of the playtests soon!
In the meantime, we've already started implementing changes inspired by your feedback and suggestions. We even uploaded a patch to the build last week! But that's not allโwe've been hard at work throughout the entire month.

Combat Ready ๐ก๏ธ
๐ท Automatic Champions Placement We've added "Champion" enemies. These tougher foes often have more abilities than their normal counterparts and can appear randomly on the map. You can tell them apart because of their blue outline.
โ Added Wound Healing to Some Armor Now, certain armors will grant health regeneration, helping you stay in the fight longer.
๐ฅ Dragolem Smashes Attackable Objects
๐ก๏ธ Two-Handed Weapon Style Fighting We've been working on improving animations and the overall feel for the Heavy/Two-handed weapon style. Our goal is to make these weapons feel more impactful and satisfying to use, making your combat experience better.
Eye Candy ๐คฉ
โก More Clear When You Are Out of Energy We've made it easier to notice when you're out of energy. However, we feel like there is more that we can do here, so let's say it's still a work in progress.
๐ค Improved Player Animation Syncing in Online Multiplayer We have worked on improving the syncing of player animations in online multiplayer because the one we had so far left much to be desired.ย
๐ฅ Skills VFX Fixing and Improving We've fixed and improved the visual effects for skills, making them look even cooler!

We've made adjustments to Skill and Energy Cost based on your feedback, and we'll be testing it out in the future.
