Development Hypnotic Chain (Common Limited Dream Weapon Skin)
Shazia Doll (Uncommon Limited Pet)
This item is currently a work in progress. Animations will be added in the future.
New Content:
A Capture the Flag mode has been added.
Due to the current workload and the work involved in creating a map, the only available map for this mode is Twilight Fountain (which will likely be temporary, as the map was built for Power Struggle). However, players are now able to create their own Capture the Flag maps.
Balancing Adjustments:
All projectiles are now cleared upon the start of the next round.
Eye Blaster Warden and Growing Pain Warden have had their detection range reduced.
E-Laminator's maximum knockback has been increased.
Bug Fixes:
Even more attempts at increasing game server stability.
Movement interpolation has been reworked.
This should result in little to no visible change for most players, but higher latency players (typically those with throttled connections) will now appear to have smoother movement.
Fixed not being able to clear the Welcome Message in the server settings.
Fixed formatting issues in the item descriptions of weapon skins for default weapons.
Fixed client timeouts sometimes not triggering on the game server's end.
Miscellaneous:
New music composed specifically for Counterpact by miguelangell960 has been added.
Game servers can now be locked behind a password.
These servers can still be listed in the browser, but will show a padlock icon to denote they are locked behind a password. Players will not be able to join unless they input the correct password.
Eclipsium bundles have been added to the shop.
These are items that can be used to trade Eclipsium between players.
Due to time constraints, these currently use temporary icons. Their icons will be updated in the future.
Using emotes or chairs will now reset the AFK timer.
Lil' Invader has been adjusted to no longer display decorations below the saucer.
Options have been added to export and import localization data.
Not all in-game text has been made compatible with the localization system yet.
In the future, official localization data will be included with the game. Due to the localization system being a work-in-progress, and due to a lack of translation resources, players may need to rely on unofficial, community-created translations for the time being.
New Alpha Released: ALPHA_NOVEMBER_B
New Weapon: Supernova
Defense weapon for "Voyager" the Loadout
The weapon is fairly slow, but has great area denial properties.
Attack: Shoots an incendiary grenade; the explosion deals no direct damage, but has high knockback and briefly ignites any enemies caught in it. The explosion can also ignite the user if they are caught in it.
Ability: Shoots a unique missile that cannot hit enemies directly, and will not detonate when hitting the environment. Instead, the missile will stick to a wall (if it hits one). After sticking to a wall, the missile will explode after a short time, dealing devastating damage in a large area. The missile can travel further than a standard missile before fizzling out. The ability cannot be used until the previous missile has detonated or fizzled out.
Bug Fixes:
Fixed a map editor error caused by deleting an image with a higher image index while using an image with a lower image index for the current tool.
More networking adjustments. What else is new?
Miscellaneous:
The arsenal configuration menu has been revamped.
The most notable change is item icons are now shown on the menu itself, and the item's description appears if you hover over the item slot.
This revamp also fixes the "bug" that made it look like no weapon or outfit was equipped if the item in those slots was discarded somehow (via recycling, trading, etc.).
Players are no longer kicked for duplicate packets; instead, the packet is simply ignored.
New Alpha Released: ALPHA_NOVEMBER_A
Bug Fixes:
Added more network stability measures in an attempt to prevent servers from unexpectedly crashing when dealing with clients who have extremely unstable connections.
Fixed decorations on the Invisible Chair not appearing.
Removed a leftover debug function (that wasn't internally marked as debug by accident) that would copy the entire array of Chinese unicode characters to the player's clipboard upon loading the main menu.
Balancing Adjustments:
Team shuffling now takes each player's score for the previous round into consideration, and tries to balance teams accordingly.
Twilight Fountain's layout has been adjusted slightly.
Two platforms were added to each spawn room, allowing all characters to leave through the top.
The healing strength of the underwater heal beacon has been reduced to 50%.
The healing strength of the side heal beacons have been reduced to 33%, and they have been moved further away from the center.
Miscellaneous:
The default game server timeout duration has been increased to 10000ms (10 seconds).
Added an option for game server hosts to disable team shuffling.
Added an option for game server hosts to disable "even" team sizes.
When disabled, players can join either team regardless of team sizes, and players will not be autobalanced.
Added an option for game server hosts to disable the team imbalance buff.
Game server hosts now have the option to set a welcome message that is displayed to joining players.
The scoreboard now displays candy next to the player who is currently holding the candy during the Trick or Treat metagame.
Extra icons have been added to the Power Struggle and Dual Power Struggle overlays to denote which team currently owns the zone(s).
Icons have been added to capture zones to help clarify ownership.
Players can now use their scroll wheel to view in-game chat history.
A "map name" entity has been added to the map editor.
Setting a name through this will cause that name to appear in the server browser instead of the map's filename.
When the current inventory filter results in no items being displayed, a notice is now displayed notifying the player that no items fit the criteria.
New Alpha Released: ALPHA_OCTOBER_HALLOWEEN_FIX_2
Balancing Adjustments:
Hypnotic Chain's base subdue time has been increased.
Hypnotic Chain's yank strength has been decreased.
Bug Fixes:
The exact cause of the "corrupted data" issue has been pinpointed, and the issue itself has very likely been fixed.
Map timers and game mode timers now run off of delta time to compensate for low strength game servers.
Miscellaneous:
The word wrap logic now breaks up words that themselves are too long to be display.
This will likely only be noticeable in the in-game chat.
The in-game chat now uses the same "small font" the rest of the game uses.
White outlines around players' healthbars are no longer displayed unless they are overhealed.
New Alpha Released: ALPHA_OCTOBER_HALLOWEEN_FIX
A new alpha for Counterpact has been released. This update contains the following changes:
Balancing Adjustments:
The player holding the Trick or Treat candy will no longer receive the reward if their team loses.
This is to discourage players from not participating in gameplay after getting the candy by hiding in areas that are either far from the objective(s) or are difficult to reach.
Reduced the attack damage of Eye Blaster Wardens from 3.5 (it alternated between 4 and 3 each tick, averaging to 3.5) to 3.
All Wardens now suffer from heal fatigue twice as quickly.
Bug Fixes:
Fixed Trick or Treat candy not being given during the first round after a game server is launched.
Fixed an error that would appear when attempting to load a map in the map editor.
The game is now compiled differently for Linux, as to avoid corrupted data coming from the game servers after extended uptime.
There is no guarantee as to whether this will completely prevent the issue, though testing seemed to indicate it could be the fix.
If this presents any issues with actually playing the game on Linux, please report said issues.
Warden heal fatigue is now properly synchronized.
This has no effect on gameplay; this is solely to give more clarity to other players.
Back Alley Invitation's sap bonus is now properly synchronized.
This has no effect on gameplay; this is solely to give more clarity to other players.
Fixed being unable to use Steam's screenshot functionality.
Miscellaneous:
The Pumpkin Bucket Charm's required candy for maximum glow has been increased from 15 to 25.
Likewise, the ghostly aura emanating from the eyes now starts at 26 candy collected instead of 16.
Game server hosts now have an option to adjust the timeout threshold for clients.
In an attempt to circumvent issues caused by players with particularly poor connections, the default setting for this is 2500ms (2.5 seconds).
Happy Halloween!
Happy Halloween everyone! For those of you who started playing after Counterpact was released in Early Access, welcome to Counterpact and thank you for playing! I hope you've been enjoying the game so far. I hope all Counterpact players also enjoy this update, as the first (of hopefully many) Halloween update is upon us.
This update includes the following changes:
New Variety Gashapon items:
Party Topper (Common Holiday Outfit)
The Spooky Ghost! (Common Holiday Pet)
Lil' Jill (Common Holiday Pet)
Eternally Screaming Skull (Rare Holiday Pet)
Ghost (Common Holiday Emote)
Pumpkin (Common Holiday Emote)
Boo! (Common Holiday Emote)
Giant Pumpkin (Common Holiday Chair)
Enchanted Broomstick* (Rare Holiday Chair)
Despite being classified as rare, players will have increased chances to pull this item this year. This increased chance is equivalent to that of an uncommon outfit.
Trick or Treat! Due to time constraints, this year's Halloween event will be fairly small in size. In the future, you can expect larger gameplay-altering additions. This year, a smaller metagame will have to suffice.
The first player to score a KO after a round starts will receive the candy.
The player holding the candy receives passive (but slow) health regeneration, a small speed boost, and a small amount of armor!
If an enemy KO's you while you're holding the candy, they'll steal it from you!
If you are KO'd by an uncredited source while holding the candy, it will be taken from you, and it will be given to the next player to score a KO.
If you are holding the candy when the round ends, you will receive an Exclusive item! If you already have it, the item's appearance will be upgraded!
Steam:
Steam users can no longer set their display name in-game. Instead, their display name on Steam will automatically be used.
In-game activity is now displayed through Steam's rich presence.
Players can now register accounts linked to their Steam account.
Note you will not be able to merge Steam logins and normal Counterpact accounts, so please log into your normal Counterpact account if you already have one.
Currently, there is not a way to change your account credentials. When these options are added, you will also be able to convert your Counterpact account into a Steam-linked account and vice versa.
Balancing adjustments:
Back Alley Invitation has received the following nerfs:
Maximum attack speed has been reduced.
Maximum lifesteal has been reduced.
Starting from 100%, Sapped Bonus now increases more slowly as it gets closer to 200%.
Bug fixes:
Fixed the in-game menu appearing instead of the character select menu when entering the Gilded Spire.
Fixed an issue with game server socket refreshing.
Fixed certain Decorated animations on weapons not scaling properly when previewing them in the arsenal menu.
Added some measures to reinforce game server stability.
Miscellaneous:
Launched another official game server located in Singapore. This server is named "Counterpact Official - Southeast Asia".
An "Alert" emote has been added to the default emote menu.
Refined items now display two sparkles instead of one. These sparkles are also slightly more transparent now, to set them apart from Gilded Spire reward sparkles more.
The maximum length of account passwords has been increased to 32 characters.
Back Alley Invitation's attack sound now increases in pitch as the Sapped Bonus gets higher.
The movement speed of moving chairs has been increased.
Game server hosts now have an option to disable metagames correlating to events.
By default, video settings will automatically be reduced if the game is running at slower speeds. An option has been added to disable this feature.
The GUI Smoothing option no longer applies to the in-game chat or the arsenal previews.
The direct map download feature has been removed; game server hosts must now provide download URLs for each map.
This was done for optimization purposes, as the map file's raw data had to be kept in memory in order to facilitate direct map downloading.
Keyboard keys for attacking and using abilities have been added.
If there is more than a one-player difference in team sizes, the next player from the larger team will automatically be moved to the smaller team upon being KO'd.
The Halloween items will be in the Variety Gashapon until November 7. Likewise, the Trick or Treat metagame will run during this period of time. If you don't get the Halloween items before the event ends, don't worry! You can either trade for them or wait until next year's Halloween event!
Happy Halloween!

The Current State of Counterpact
Hello everybody!
Last Friday, Counterpact was opened to the public through Early Access. Since then, there has been a much larger turnout than I was expecting. It has been fun playing with you all so far, so I want to say thank you for playing! I hope you are enjoying the game, and I hope to continue seeing you all.
With that said, you may have noticed some persistent issues occurring while trying to play (especially today). I just want to make it clear that I am aware of these issues, and they are being worked on. I am asking for your understanding and patience regarding these issues; please keep in mind the game is in Early Access.
The official servers have been frequently crashing today. This event was unprecedented, and only started occurring today. I am unable to determine the exact source of these crashes at this time, but I will be switching hosts for the official servers soon. Hopefully, this should make the official servers more reliable, as well as provide myself some insight into why they were crashing to begin with. In the meantime, if an official server crashes again, the best place to notify me is the official Counterpact Discord server.
Game servers may send garbage data, resulting in odd behavior or fatal errors on the players' ends. This is a fairly old issue that I thought I fixed before opening the game to the public; apparently it wasn't fixed. This is also a high priority, but this issue doesn't seem to occur as often.
"Autobalance" (automatically moving players to team when one team has two or more players than the other team) was previously a low priority, but with the game becoming public, it has become a more pressing issue since many new players seem to not realize there is an imbalance in teams whenever one occurs. Unfortunately, autobalance will not be implemented in the next update, but it will be implemented in the update following that one. For now, please do remember there is a "team deficit" buff that powers up players on the smaller team, so even on a smaller team you will not be defenseless.
The next update is planned for the 24th of October, and will bring a Halloween event along with it, as well as some other balance changes, bug fixes, and quality of life features. That's it for now. Thanks again, everyone!

New Alpha Released: ALPHA_OCTOBER_ADJUSTMENT
A new alpha for Counterpact has been released. This update contains the following changes:
Balancing Adjustments:
Back Alley Invitation has been somewhat reworked with the following adjustments:
The sapped bonus no longer provides extra attack damage, but instead provides faster attack speeds.
The sapped bonus now provides a movement speed increase.
The sapped bonus now decreases at a slower rate, and the pause until decreasing starts is now longer.
The sapped bonus lifesteal has been decreased.
The attack's knockback has been reduced.
The attack's base damage has been increased.
Bug Fixes:
The Back Alley Invitation's sapped bonus will no longer stop decreasing if it is higher than the maximum health of the currently chained enemy.
Fixed game servers in the server browser not being pinged if another server failed to be pinged.
Implemented measures to prevent game servers from rejecting new connections after a period of time.
Miscellaneous:
The "Join Team Dawn" and "Join Team Dusk" buttons on the in-game menu now show the text above the team symbols.
Font outlines are now smoother by default.
Added an option to adjust the quality of font outlines.
Added an option to toggle thick font outlines.
This option is particularly useful if you have to reduce the quality of font outlines, but do not like how thick font outlines look as a result.
Added an option to draw Shazia the Dream's chain as a simple line as opposed to a dynamic chain.
The in-game menu now automatically pops up after joining a game.
The previous damage counter font has been deprecated.
A popup encouraging players to join the Discord server the first time they launch the game has been added.
This popup will only appear once, regardless of the option chosen.
