We at RecklessGames would like to inform you that we have decided to remove C.Q.C. from the Steam Store in the near future. This decision was not easy for us, but was made for the following reasons:

  • The game no longer represents the quality we want to represent with our indie development studio.
  • Therefore, the sales figures remained below our expectations.
  • In addition, we revamped our studio during the last year and are now looking forward to develop games from other genres of better quality and with more manpower.

C.Q.C. - Final release version 1.0 out now!

Hello zombie hunters,

it's been a while since the last update but the wait was worth it! Today we released the final version of C.Q.C. (version 1.0) with lots of changes, improvements, and bugfixes. With version 1.0 we will also leave the Early Access state of the game. Thank you all for your support, the last years were full of ups and downs and today we are very proud to deliver you the final version of the game.

But enough bla bla, here is what you are waiting for the patch notes for the final release 1.0!


Massively improved feature: gore system


In co-op and single-mode you are now able to perform a headshot on zombies. Each bullet that hits your opponent has a small chance to trigger a headshot. Once triggered, the game will switch to slow-motion and your opponent's head will explode with an awesome splatter animation.



Since this isn't enough for our taste, you also have the chance now to shoot the arms off a zombie with a nice blood splatter effect.
To complete the whole we also implemented some more blood particle effects in general. So nothing more to say than: Happy Zombie hunting!



New feature: Combo kills


To make the game even more rewarding we implemented a combo system where you can gain additional materials to upgrade your weapons. It works like this: The more zombies you kill within a small time frame the higher your combo will get. Once you finished your combo you will instantly receive materials based on the combo count as a reward.
We also implemented an announcer who reacts to the number of kills you do during a combo.





Zombies: much more variation and female zombies


To give a lot more variety to our zombies we implemented different zombie styles, including female zombies with a variation of clothes. With the help of this, no zombie will look exactly like another one anymore.



Since we have a ton of different zombies now in our game we also implemented a lot of variation when it comes to zombie sounds. Each zombie has a pool of different zombie sounds when he gets hit, dies or groans around. This makes the zombie threat come to life.


Other Co-op/Single-mode improvements


  • During cutscenes the screen isn't split anymore dependent on the number of players. Instead, all the players are now able to view the cutscenes in full screen.
  • We implemented a tutorial in the starting area to get a general overview of the game. To don't annoy the player with it too much the tutorial only triggers once per map session and each one only appears three times in total.



PvP improvements


The PvP mode felt a bit rough around the edges and we improved it with following four changes:
  1. A smooth transition has been implemented between the player/weapon selection screen and the player spawn.
  2. We implemented a start animation with a countdown which triggers the start of the game after all the players are done with weapon and character selection.
  3. Your kill count will now be reduced when you kill yourself for example with your own grenade or when running into the fire or by getting too much fall damage.
  4. The winner of any PvP match performs now a winning dance with some effects. Your enemies will hate you for this :-D





Bugfixes


  • Fixed a bug where players were able to run away from a biting zombie. This system has now been improved and you won't get away from a biter once he bites you in your throat. Except you kill him.
  • Fixed a bug where some doors could not be opened because the door itself was stuck in the frame.
  • Fixed a bug where the police zombie boss of the Urban Suburbs map stopped moving when the player was too close to him.
  • For the same map (Urban Suburbs) we Implemented some missing textures which didn't show up.
  • Fixed another bug for this map (Urban Suburbs) where zombies spawned out of bounds.
  • Fixed a bug for the Bloody Island co-op map where the player was able to shoot through the walls.
  • Fixed some bugs for the same map (Bloody Island) where shadows of some objects weren't calculated correctly.
  • Fixed a bug for the in-game map selection where some map images stayed in the hovering state.

Content update (Version 0.69) live: New starting area with Player Hideout + Vendors + Map Hub, Bugfixes

Hey, zombie hunter and PVP killer, we are back from our summer break and got a brand new update for you right away. It includes a completely new starting area with a hideout for you and your guns, a vendor place to buy and sell stuff and a complete map hub including all PvP and Coop maps.

With this release we are proud to announce that we completed all the milestones regarding content updates during the early access phase.
This means for us that we are now in the final phase of optimizing and polishing.

Player Hideout


This is the place where you actually start the game. Here you wake up in your tiny but comfortable home where you can inspect your weapons and chill out a bit. You are able to always come back here as soon as a Coop or PvP map is finished.






Map Hub


Once you get out of your house you are in the map hub. In this hub, you can walk to each of the Coop and PvP maps and start them right away. It also includes the marketplace of the vendors.








Vendors' Place


In the vendors' place you are able to trade your goods (materials you earn in-game) as well as upgrading and inspecting your weapons. Once upgraded you can also have a look at your new weapons in your hideout again.




Bugfixes


Version 0.69 comes also with some smaller bugfixes. Let us know in case you stumble uppon any issues during gameplay. Following issues have been fixed with this release:

  • Map ColdIce: Fixed a bug which caused the shadow of buildings not working properly when a player entered a house.
  • Fixed some texture issues which appeared on various house elements for Balsam Retirements, ColdIce and the Vendors hub.
  • Fixed an issue which caused doors not playing a sound when those have been crushed by Zombies or opened by players.
  • Fixed a rare bug where Zombies could get stuck in doors.
  • Fixed a bug in the animation blueprint of the player character where fall animations weren't triggered properly.

Hotfix 0.681 is live: Reflections, PvP Timer, Weapon preview, Dryland issues (Co-Op)

Hey guys we've spotted and fixed following bugs during our playsession today:

  • Fixed a bug, which caused the water reflection not working properly. This bug only affected PvP Map Urban Suburbs and Downtown Garden.
  • Fixed a bug, which caused the timer in PvP not starting with the correct time at the beginning when a new map has been started via the map selection at the end of each PvP map.
  • Fixed a bug, where the UI was being displayed during a cutscene at the end of the Drylands Co-Op map.
  • Fixed a bug, where only one player was shown at a cutscene at the end of the Drylands Co-Op map.
  • Fixed a bug, where a wrong preview weapon has been shown in the weapon upgrading menu for the level 6 sniper.

Content update (Version 0.68) live: New PvP Maps (Bog Forest + Cold Ice), Bugfixes

New PvP map: Bog Forest


In this map you have to beat your enemy in close range combat. The environment itself is a muddy swamp with some heavy rain approaching from time to time. It also provides three layers of verticality which is perfect for some grenade action.






New PvP map: Cold Ice


This map supports a wide variety of playstyles with some smaller areas, medium range combat and some larger areas which are perfect for sniping. Also, be wary of the frozen lakes, those have a direct impact on your movement. And what would be Cold Ice without a new weather system: snow!






Bugfixes



  • Fixed a bug, which caused the collision of projectiles not working properly with the environment when the hit angle was really small.
  • Fixed a bug, which caused hovering over the map Downtown Garden in the PvP map selection screen to show also the hovering effect on the urban suburbs map.
  • Fixed a bug, which caused some triggers to be visible during gameplay.

Content update (Version 0.67) live: New Co-Op map, bugfixes & improvements

New Co-Op Map: BogForest


This map is a medium sized co-op map and takes place right after the Drylands map. You will start in a kind of sunken city and need to butcher your way through the swamp to the final boss.



The map itself provides a smaller start area which leads in a more open swamp. From there you will make your way through an area with some overgrown ruins where you will meet the final boss.



The environment is dark, swampy and it may happen that you run into a rain shower in the middle of the swamp.



Since this will be the last Co-Op map before the final release, you will face a lot of zombies which have overrun the swamp. So will you be able to hunt them down and beat the final boss? Find it out in BogForest!


Bugfixes & Improvements



  • Implemented missing collision for some meshes
  • Fixed the collision mesh for some rock formations
  • Improved some Co-Op map locations where the third person camera could get stuck in objects
  • Fixed a bug for melee weapons where some attacks haven't been calculated correctly (Co-Op mode only).
  • Fixed a UI bug which showed a white bar when hovering over a slider with the mouse + improved different UI element states

Content update (Version 0.66) live: New melee weapon, Improved gore system, UI improvement, Bugfixes

New weapon type: melee weapons


With this update, we introduce a totally new type of weapons: the melee weapons. We've implemented a completely new system for that to easily expand the weapon variety when it comes to melee weapons. We are currently planning to implement more melee weapons after the final release of the game.



New weapon: tactical axe


The tactical axe has a quite high damage output, which is worth to face your opponent in a close quarter fight, especially with a higher weapon level. Like all other weapons, the tactical axe can be upgraded up to 10 levels and comes with three completely different meshes when reaching specific levels.
To compensate the melee damage you take from enemies, you are able to heal yourself instead of throwing a grenade up to three times with each life. Picking up grenades will be replaced when you equip the tactical axe with filling up your ability to heal yourself.



Improved gore system


We got the feedback from our latest play sessions, that the hit feedback could be better and dealing damage or killing a Zombie doesn't feel as rewarding as it could be. Therefore we did a complete rework of the gore system. In detail we improved and implemented following features:

  • Reworked blood particle effect which results in more blood splatters and blood puddles on the ground.
  • Implemented impact physics when an Enemy gets killed based on the bullet impact direction and the movement speed/direction of the enemy.
  • Implemented a bullet impact sound when enemies get hit.




We will continue investigating this feature and may improve it with future updates.

Improved UI in PvP


When a player spawned he wasn't able to see the skill cooldown time via the UI. This has been improved now to always show the player the current state of the skill cooldown and usage time.
When no usage time is available, for example for the health refill skill of the police guys, the usage time is hidden.

Bugfixes



  • Fixed a bug which caused the selection of a wrong surface type on a bullet impact.
  • Fixed a bug which caused melee weapons to appear in cutscenes.
  • Fixed a bug which caused the lodge mesh to not collide with bullets.
  • Map Drylands (Co-op): fixed a bug which caused players not spawning at the highway when the ladder has been used.
  • Map Bloody Island (PvP): fixed a bug which caused footsteps not playing the water particle effect properly.
  • Map Balsam Retirements (Co-op & PvP): Fixed a collision issue for the floor below the fountain.

Fourth content update live now (Version 0.65): New Sniper weapon, Bugfixes

New weapon: Sniper


The sniper has a low rate of fire with a bolt action reload mechanism. One magazine contains 10 rounds and a bullet can be deadly either in Coop against Zombies or in PvP.



Besides the high damage, the sniper has a special ability: bullets can pierce the enemy. The number of enemies hit that way depends on the weapons level. The sniper with level 0 will start with one hit and can go up to 5 hits for a maxed out sniper.




Bugfixes



  • Fixed a bug which caused player animations in PvP not fit to the right weapon.
  • Fixed a bug where the sound has not being played when a weapon gets reloaded.
  • Fixed the collision response channels of some weapon meshes.

New PvP map: Downtown Garden


This map is designed for close to medium range combat in a bright downtown park environment. It provides a lot of places of interest and the different playable areas are separated by small rivers.






New PvP map: Urban Suburbs


This PvP map is the equivalent map to the same named Co-Op map. It is designed for close range combat and provides a small park combined with a parking area and a small street with shops and a factory.

  • Map Urban Suburbs (Co-Op): Fixed some texture issues which lead to a decreased performance in some areas.
  • Fixed the collision of some meshes
  • Fixed the physical materials used for some meshes
