Alpha 0.9.4 changelog

Avast!

The team has been hard at work to improve the overall performance of the game the past few weeks. This led to the surfacing of a few nasty network bugs which took our team a lot of effort and digging in code to solve, which is why the communication with the community has been a little silent. These implementations create a more stable and performant base of the game, which enables us to add new features more easily in the future. With the bugs solved we can open a new testing window for you all to test the game.

Here’s a detailed rundown of what has been added, updated of fixed this patch;

[UPDATED] A lot of the network code has been updated and this leads to a significant increase in performance as well as resolving a couple of bugs; namely clients displacing on the ship.
[UPDATED] The container system has been overhauled, giving players the ability to place items back into the containers.
[UPDATED] The tavern’s lighting has been overhauled.

[FIXED] The stairs to the lower deck has received an overhaul regarding collision. Players should no longer get stuck on invisible edges when walking up the stairs.
[FIXED] A small visual bug that allowed some players to see incorrect wind visuals has been corrected.

[NEW] A new LOD-system has been added. The new system makes rendering the map easier on your GPU by rendering only parts of the map that the player is on. This leads to an overall increase in FPS and lower loading times.
[NEW] A new character controller has been introduced. This makes other players look better ingame with better placement of a characters’ limbs.
[NEW] A rework of the ship’s accessibility made it possible for players to finally walk on the front pillar of the ship located on the bow.
[NEW] A vote kick system has been introduced in the lobby scene. Players can initiate a vote kick on a certain player and other players can vote on whether or not to kick this player.
[NEW] A new build validator system was introduced in this update. This will resolve the problem of players being stuck in the main menu.

Furthermore we did more additional improvements and bug fixes:

[NEW] Added an announcement board to the lobby which shows the testing timeframes.
[NEW] Added a screen on the starter island that shows who has already loaded the match.
[NEW] Added touchpad locomotion.
[NEW] Added preferences in settings to choose locomotion type.
[UPDATED] Lobbies can now be hosted privately and people can only join through invite.
[UPDATED] Improved ship maneuverability.
[UPDATED] Left hand radial menu Quit button needs to be pressed 3 seconds and returns haptic feedback.
[FIXED] Issue with inversed movement when trying to climb in the crowsnest is fixed.
[FIXED] Voice chat channel in the lobby is now shared instead of per team.
[FIXED] Fixed crashing ship when a player glitches through the ship.
[FIXED] Decreased belt lookat angle before belt freezes.
[FIXED] Opening SteamVR overlay during a match will not pause the game anymore.
