Ravagers around the corner. New features of the major June update. Part 2

Part 1

Hello, survivors! Let’s continue to learn about the new features of the upcoming Ravagers season. In this entry, we’ll talk about the legendary pulse accelerator and the eerie epic movement part consisting of many legs. Let’s dive in!

We remind you that all the new features described in the “Developer blog” are not final and may be changed before they are introduced into the game or may not make it into the game at all. This applies not only to information about possible unique features of new parts, but also to the appearance of the parts themselves.

Legendary pulse accelerator

In the first entry, we told you about the light legendary cabin that is perfect for long-range fire. The Ravagers have prepared a suitable weapon for it, which will allow you to wreak chaos and destruction without getting close to your opponents.

To activate the accelerator’s perk, you need to hit enemies twice in a row from a long distance. After that, the weapon’s projectile is replaced with a special one.

When it hits, this special projectile attaches itself to the enemy and periodically damages all enemy cabins within a certain radius. Note that if the cabin has 25% durability or less, it will not receive periodic damage.

After the damage phase, enemies within the radius will no longer see other players on their radar for a period of time.

Epic mechanical legs

It’s a shame when you’re using “ML 200” or any other legs, and one gets destroyed in battle. You have to hobble along and suffer until the end (which is not always a victory). The Ravagers have created a unique movement part that can keep your build firmly on its feet even after a fierce firefight.

One copy of the new movement part has two legs. That’s why a lot of them on a build may remind you of a centipede. The key feature is regenerating durability after a certain amount is lost. For example, if the movement part absorbs some damage, then only one leg will be disabled, while the second one will continue to function. After a while, the disabled leg regenerates and you can use it again.

Of course, if you lose both legs, you will fall to the ground. But after a while, the legs will regenerate, and you will be able to walk again and scare every arachnophobe you meet.

Structural parts of the upcoming season

That’s all for now. See you in the last entry, coming soon. Stay tuned.

“Knight tournament” brawl returns

Hello, survivors! We invite you to play the updated “Knight tournament” brawl! The special versions of the explosive spears can recharge so you can stay in battle, dash modules and weak and strong points on the armoured cars will make the battles interesting and dynamic all the way through!

Attention! The mode will be available from May 22 to May 28 inclusive!

  • “Knight tournament” is a team brawl with preset vehicles equipped with explosive spears.
  • The goal is to score more points than the enemy team in the allotted time.
  • The preset vehicles have been upgraded:

    • The spears now reload upon exploding instead of being destroyed.
    • The vehicles now have left and right dash modules.
    • Blowing up barrels now guarantees the destruction of an armoured car.
  • The battles take place on the “Crater”, “Sandy gulf” and “Oasis” maps.
  • The reward for the battles of the mode is wires.

Special challenges and rewards

  • Day 1: earn 2500 points in the “Knight tournament” brawl. Reward: 2 “Knight rider” stickers.
  • Day 2: complete 2 battles in the “Knight tournament” brawl. Reward: “Teutonic Stripes” paint.
  • Day 3: deal 3000 damage in the “Knight tournament” brawl. Reward: “Bludgeon” decor.
  • Day 4: destroy or help destroy 15 enemies in the “Knight tournament” brawl. Reward: “Martin’s helmet” decor.
  • Day 5: complete 1 battle in the “Knight tournament” brawl. Reward: 2 “Iron lily” stickers.
  • Day 6: deal 7000 damage in the “Knight tournament” brawl. Reward: “Damascus steel” paint.

Ravagers around the corner. New features of the major June update. Part 1

Hello, survivors! “The New Frontier” season is about to end. All this time, the Ravagers and their leader Aris have been experimenting in the depths of the “Cradle of mind”. Thanks to the protection of the Founders, they were able to make significant progress towards awakening the new mind. Nobody has realized yet how it will affect the balance of forces in the Wasteland.

The Ravagers return to the Valley with a bunch of unusual weapons and modules. This first devblog entry will talk about the new legendary light cabin and the new shotgun, as well as new sizes of frames. Let’s dive in!

We remind you that all the new features described in the “Developer blog” are not final and may be changed before they are introduced into the game or may not make it into the game at all. This applies not only to information about possible unique features of new parts, but also to the appearance of the parts themselves.

Legendary light cabin

The Ravagers have developed an interesting light cabin that is perfect for those who like precise shooting at long distance. Thanks to its features, you will be able to make powerful shots at distant enemies, and easily change your position if you get spotted using the high maximum speed of the cabin.

The cabin passively increases the penetration ability of weapons. The perk is accumulated with medium to long range hits. After a full charge of perk, you can activate it and temporarily increase the penetration ability of your weapons even more. So much so that this is the first cabin in the game that will allow you to raise the penetration ability of your weapons above 100%!

This cabin would work best with some sort of sniper weapon. Who knows, maybe the Ravagers will provide something suitable. We’ll see in the next blog entry…

Legendary shotgun

A nod to those who love spears. The Ravagers decided to add an explosive twist to the list of new features of the update. The legendary shotgun continues the “Gremlin’s” technology branch. You can probably guess its perk from the start of this paragraph.

The shotgun has an explosive at the end of its barrel. Its mechanics are similar to explosive spears. In order to charge the explosive and drive it into a nearby enemy, you need to deal damage with the shotgun. At the right amount of damage, the explosive will charge up, and then you can use it. It’s genius in its simplicity.

New frames of the upcoming season

This time, the update will bring you standard and heavy 2x2 and 2x5 frames, as well as an L-shaped 4x8 frame.

Please note that after the season ends, you will be able to get the new frames at a workbench for Engineer badges. This also applies to frames introduced in the current season, “The New Frontier”.

And this is only the beginning! See you in the next entry, coming very soon. Stay tuned.

The “Steel troopers” brawl is back!

Many survivors have been waiting for this moment, and now it’s finally here! Hop in the battle walker cabin and ruthlessly destroy the hordes of mechanical spiders. The rewards include the chance to produce the new passive melee weapon “Claws”!

Attention! The mode will be available from May 15 to May 21 inclusive!

  • “Steel troopers” is a team PvE brawl where players on battle walkers have to fight hordes of mechanical spiders of the Ravagers, while completing various tasks.
  • Among the enemies, there are small mobile spiders and larger spiders with harpoons that can trap your battle walker and make it an easy target.
  • Players take part in the battles of the mode on preset battle walkers.
  • One of the battle walkers has the new “Driver” robotic legs. The enemy spiders’ visual effects have also been updated.
  • Destroyed players can be brought back to battle if their teammates arrive to the place of their destruction in time and wait for their respawn.
  • The reward for the battles of the mode is plastic.

Special challenges and rewards

  • Day 1: earn 3000 points in the “Steel troopers” brawl. Reward: 2 “Stop them together!” stickers.
  • Day 2: deal 15000 damage in the “Steel troopers” brawl. Reward: 80 Engineer badges.
  • Day 3: complete 2 battles in the “Steel troopers” brawl. Reward: 2 “Special stabilizers”.
  • Day 4: earn 2000 points in the “Steel troopers” brawl. Reward: “Military reserve” container.
  • Day 5: deal 15000 damage in the “Steel troopers” brawl. Reward: 80 Engineer badges.
  • Day 6: destroy or help destroy 75 enemies in the “Steel troopers” brawl. Reward: “Humanitarian aid” container.
  • Day 7: deal 25000 damage in the “Steel troopers” brawl. Reward: workpiece for the production of the new passive melee weapon “Claws”.

More maps available in clan battles

Hello! We often receive feedback from players suggesting we add more maps to modes such as “Clan wars”. We would like to note that the default versions of locations you encounter in PvP missions have to be modified in a certain way in order to be available for clan game modes.

Today, we are happy to announce that the next update in June is planned to add the following maps to the “Clan confrontation” and “Clan wars” game modes:

Clan confrontation (and “Battle for uranium” without battle walkers/armoured aircraft)

  • Brotherhood stronghold
  • Marble quarry
  • Sector EX
  • Chemical plant
  • Orbital station
  • Cradle of mind
  • Sinto City
  • Broken arrow
  • New Fuji (without the interactive console)

Clan wars

  • Brotherhood stronghold
  • East quarter
  • Chemical plant
  • Orbital station

Please note that the “Chemical plant” and “Orbital station” maps only have the “Domination” scenario available, which is currently not included in the clan game modes. This way, we would like to increase the variety of scenarios in clan battles. In order to make capturing bases more impactful, the capture time in these modes has been reduced by a third.

Some of the maps added to the “Clan confrontation” may also become available for the “Clan wars” in the future, if the game experience on these locations will prove solid.

Which of the locations do you agree with adding to clan modes, and which do you believe to be unnecessary? Please share your ideas and suggestions in the comments

The development of the “Commit” ballista

Survivors! “The New Frontier” season introduced the “Commit” heavy ballista. One hit from this brutal weapon can leave your opponent with almost no armour, and that’s the best case scenario for them!

We spoke with the development team to learn more details about the process of creating this weapon. We hope you’ll enjoy reading this entry!

Narrative

Q: Why was the weapon named “Commit”? Is there a story or some cultural context behind it? We noticed that all new Founders modules’ names follow a particular pattern. What is the naming based on?

A: “Why ‘Commit’? And why not? We’re not poets, we’re engineers. The names of our parts are like computer terminal commands: clear, straight to business, no sentiments.

In programming, Commit means fixing changes. Before → after. No ifs, maybes or buts. ‘Commit’s’ projectiles are also like that: they pierce anything in their way and unconditionally change the environment. New reality. Fixed. Ironclad. And if the enemy is also fixed in the process, even better.

There are a lot of engineers among us, we speak the language of technology. It’s our mother tongue. We call parts as we understand them, through their mechanics, functions, associations. You realize what you’re dealing with as soon as you hear the name.

"For romance, you can go to Steppenwolfs. They had ‘Dove’, or ‘Love’, or whatever. We work with things that work.”
Maja Lindholm, The Founders

Game design

Q: What was the “Commit” like at the concept stage? Were there any unexpected changes made to the original vision during the development phase, and if so, what prompted them? Or did everything go according to the initial plan?

A: From the concept stage to the release, the weapon has not undergone any significant changes in design. We were inspired by real-world ballistae when creating the “Commit”. We immediately liked the idea of a massive and intimidating weapon that would pierce through the opponents.

Q: Why did Crossout need “Commit” specifically? What gameplay does this weapon bring to the table?

A: As with any other weapon, “Commit” was supposed to bring a new experience to our players. As mentioned earlier, the ballista should give its owner the feeling that every shot is important, and every hit on an enemy causes enormous damage. With accurate shooting and good knowledge of the game’s building system, the weapon allows you to more effectively destroy enemy armoured vehicles.

Appearance

Q: What was the inspiration for the design of the ballista’s appearance? Why does the final model look the way it does, and what decisions led to this look? What unique effects do the ballista and its spikes have?

A: The weapon had to look like a ballista, but in the style of the Founders faction, which is characterized by references to construction equipment. We wanted to create a slender, low silhouette and emphasize the dynamism and gravity of the structure by means of straight lines in contrast with the functional metal carcass. The restrained visual design emphasizes its performance and brutality.
The spikes also refer to the construction theme: straight, simple, tough.

Sound

Q: What was the reference for the sound of the ballista? What instruments and techniques were used to make the sounds of stretching the string, reloading and other sounds appear natural?

A: We didn’t use any specific references. We just tried to make a dense, rich sound with a powerful metallic peak. The sound was created in such a way that it would fit well with both shooting and reloading animations. As for the reloading sound, it has several layers; the start of each layer is randomized to create a natural sound. The first layer is the electric motor, while the second layer is responsible for the mechanical clicks and string tension. The mechanical layer, in turn, is assembled from previously recorded material.

That’s all for today. Good luck in battles, survivors!

“Spring mayhem” brawl

Attention! The mode will be available from May 8 to May 14 inclusive!

  • “Spring mayhem” is a team PvP brawl with Brotherhood preset vehicles.
  • At the beginning of each battle, you can choose the desired armoured car that you will drive into the battle. If you do not choose a car in the allotted time, the blueprint is selected randomly.
  • There are 5 blueprints to choose from with different weapons, movement parts and, accordingly, roles:

    • Scout: a high-speed but poorly protected APC with a radar. Other vehicles have neither radar nor radio.
    • Tank: a heavy offensive armoured vehicle.
    • Anti-aircraft: an option for medium and long range battles, vulnerable to flank fire. Good against armoured aircraft.
    • Demolitionist: rocket APC with high damage and low defense.
    • Armoured aircraft: airborne fire support. Vulnerable to accurate anti-aircraft fire.
  • The same blueprint can be selected at the same time by no more than 3 players.
  • Your objective in the battle: fill the point scale earlier than the opposing team, or score more points before the time runs out. Points are awarded for the destruction of opponents and assists.
  • A team is awarded a win if it scores 50 points and outscores the opposing team by at least 5 points.

    • If the time of the match ends, but the gap of 5 points between the teams has not been reached, then the teams are given extra time. At the end of the extra time, the team that has the more points wins.
    • If at the end of extra time the teams scored an equal amount of points, then a draw is declared.
  • The team receives points for destroying enemies according to the following formula: “1 + the number of bases controlled at the time of destruction”. You can always find out how many points your team will receive for destroying an enemy by looking at the number of filled in rhombs under the team score counter.
  • The reward for the battles of the mode is scrap metal.

Leaderboard

Attention!

  • Leaving the battle before it ends counts as a defeat and leads to losing the rating points as in the case of the defeat.

Treacherous Wasteland: places with highest destruction counts

Hello, survivors! We continue to share the thermal maps that show the places where your armored vehicles get destroyed most frequently in the fierce battles in the Wasteland. This time, we’ll analyze the “Air harbour”, “Sanctuary” and “Gates of the Valley” maps.

Only real players are marked on the heatmaps with no power score limits.

The “Air harbour” map and the southern pass slaughter

The Steppenwolfs outpost in the Red rocks was built on the site of the former Waderkvarn corporation research facility, and became a battlefield for the Brotherhood and the Lunatics. The wolves had turned the place into a secure base for repairing armoured aircraft and developing flying machines. It’s no wonder that raiders come here to loot aircraft parts.

The small battlefield is perfectly designed for both ground combat and aerial firefights. The map clearly shows that the southern bridge is much more interesting to the survivors than the rest of the “Harbour”. Maybe you can solve the mystery of its appeal.

The “Sanctuary” map and what’s done in the dark is brought to light

At first glance, it’s hard to say that the “Sanctuary” is a Syndicate-style map, but dragons have always preferred to isolate themselves from the world in urban environments. Unfortunately for them, this means that pretty much anyone in the Wasteland knows where to find them. That’s why the leaders of the Syndicate have chosen a small mountain sanctuary, built before the Crossout by the Sinto corporation, as the spot for their secret meetings. Too bad, but with the advent of armoured aircraft, this secret place was discovered by the Steppenwolfs and the Syndicate had to look for another secret hideout.

The heatmap of the “Sanctuary” is very straightforward. The huge dome, capable of hiding armoured vehicles from the watchful eye of aircraft during the battle, attracts all the attention of the survivors. But you have to be careful: the old structure may collapse at any moment, and the ground warriors will no longer be able to hide from the sky hunters.

The “Gates of the Valley” map and the fire from heaven

This former military cargo transportation route has become a brutal battleground for two factions. Despite the seemingly small scale, the “Gates of the Valley” is a maze with a variety of spots for firefights.

The battlefield offers balanced gameplay for all types of vehicles, as the heatmap suggests. If your armoured car is spotted by aircraft (Should have upgraded your stealth to 100. You brought this on yourself), you can duck into a tunnel and wait out the dangerous moment. The armoured aircraft themselves can also hide from enemies by maneuvering between rocks. Being able to maneuver, by the way, is the key skill for aircraft pilots on this map, since battle airships constantly circle the location. They are not simple decorations, but independent combat units, which won’t let you stay in one place for a long time.

That is all for now. We have many more interesting thermal maps that we will share with you next time. Good luck in battles!
