Walls blocking noise, keyboard shortcuts and more...

Version 5.3.0 is live:

The focus of this release is a number of critical bug fixes and a bunch of minor QoL improvements.

Improvements:

  • Spreading of noise is now affected by walls. Use the Expert Construction skill to set up gaps between foundation tiles.
  • Added keyboard shortcuts for work shifts. Default: J,K,L
  • Imported new data for BTC,ETH,LTC and DOGE
  • Added clearMarkings setting to remove text marks when modding existing CPU and GPU cards
  • Documented floor tiles for modding
  • Show 2 columns when selecting mining target for the whole facility and many coins loaded via mods
  • You can use the mouse wheel to browse the coin list in the market screen when you have many coins loaded from mods

Bug fixes:

  • The hashrates would multiply after loading beyond the first facility.
  • Region settings in Free play would get reset after load and save.
  • Power efficency would remain the same after massively replacing Power Supply units in the whole facility.
  • Floor tiles would display temperature in Celsius even when Fahrenheit is selected in the settings.
  • Fixed grammar in NPC dialogue.
  • Fixed bug where invalid date in mod file could crash the game.
  • Allow date format YYYY-MM-D for prices of modded hardware.

Cloud Saves

Finally, the Steam Cloud Saves are here. You can now play the same scenario across multiple computers.

Also, translations for German, Spanish, Italian, Korean, Portuguese, and Turkish have been updated.

The Steam Cloud save support should work automatically out of the box.

Important: If you have multiple Steam accounts playing on the same computer, you should back up the save files because Steam cloud update will overwrite them!!!

Also, you might want to back them up for the first run, just in case.

The files are stored in %APPDATA%/Bigosaur/CryptoMiner

That folder is typically in C:\Users\Your_windows_username\AppData\Roaming\Bigosaur\CryptoMiner

The AppData folder is hidden, so you would need to enable system hidden files to see it.

Or you can just type %APPDATA% into the Windows file explorer address bar, and it will take you there directly.

Now you can play and share progress on multiple devices.

Improvements ported from the Switch version, modding ehancements and more...

Version 5.1.0 is live with significant performance improvements and modding enhancements.

New features:

  • Added auto-pause option to the Pause screen
  • You can select which mods to load when starting a new Free Play game
  • You can resize and move the Coin Market screen around
  • Added dark outline to challenge text so it doesn't blend into background
  • Custom bought motherboards with items (CPU,GPU,RAM) are added to Shop's Recent Items tab
  • The play area is drawn in grayscale when the game speed is zero
  • Autopilot settings are now saved in each savefile, so you can have different ones for different scenarios without having to set them every time
  • Added progress bar when saving takes more than 3 seconds.
  • Added setting to control auto-scrolling on screen edge.
  • Updated translations
  • Modding: Added support for custom GPU slots (generation 2+)
  • Modding: Allow placing .txt files for override items into subdirectories. Now you can set override=itemID and in that case the file name is no longer used. Check the updated readme.txt in the modding docs.

Performance improvements:

  • Major speed improvement with garage/storage drawing when you have thousands of items
  • Significantly increased loading and saving speed (about 20 times faster on average)
  • Drastically reduced the save files size, going from dozens or more megabytes to about 70kB in a typical scenario
  • Loading and saving now streams directly to disk buffer instead of unpacking and packing in memory
  • Save files are compressed while writing
  • Saving and loading uses a temporary buffer to read and write disk in smaller number of bigger chunks
  • Temperature changes are now computed in real time and you can see the heat slowly spreading. This means that some operations that require heat recalculation for the whole facility can now be completed instantly instead of you having to wait for the game to update all tiles and equipment
  • All game audio is now the same framerate, which improves loading times.

Bug fixes:

  • The graph in the Coin Market used the be off by one day for some dates. Fixed.
  • Prevent Set MAX option from entering negative values into buy quantity field.
  • World map and Phone are now properly reset when you start a new scenario without restarting the game.
  • Fixed loading and saving progress bar.
  • Fixed occasional problem with order of drawing objects inside the rack.
  • Fixed position of Job icons when objects are inside racks.
  • Fixed occasional draw bug with text hints.
  • Fixed bug when game window is resized during saving.
  • Fixed bug when loading invalid items when mods change.
  • Fixed UI positions on Public ICO launch when using Large text setting.
  • Fixed bugs when saved alerts wouldn't load
  • Improved shelf space detection when auto-placing ASIC and FPGA.
  • Sometimes the Linux User skill would be randomly added to employees when loading saved games. Fixed.
  • Clock changes due to Daylight Savings used to create problems, so I created a special, DST-free, date and time system

Nintendo Switch port improvements are coming to Steam

Since game consoles typically have lower hardware capabilities, substantial amount of work was needed to make the game run smoothly. For example:

  • significantly increased loading and saving speed (about 20 times faster on average)
  • drastically reduced the save files size, going from around 200MB to only about 70kB for a typical scenario
  • loading and saving now streams directly to disk buffer instead of unpacking and packing in memory
  • save files are zipped
  • saving and loading uses a temporary buffer to read and write disk in smaller number of bigger chunks
  • temperature changes are now computed in real time and you can see the heat slowly spreading. This means that some operations that require heat recalculation for the whole facility can now be completed instantly instead of you having to wait for the game to update all tiles and equipment

Beside all those improvements, some important bug fixes were made.

Also, the UI was redesigned to be more optimal when playing with controllers. Racks and rigs automatically position to get placed next to the already placed ones and the game automatically behaves like you were holding SHIFT and CTRL in PC version. I'm also considering making a special build for Steam Deck which would use that UI. If you would be interested in something like that, please comment below.

The Nintendo Switch version is now released and complete, so I can focus on port all these changes to Steam.

All these changes are coming to Steam version in the next few months.
