Here is what is new in CTHON:
New Features
- The game can now run in a window. Use F4 at any time to toggle between windowed and fullscreen modes. You can also Alt-Tab out as well as resize the window by dragging the edges.
- The game now has one resolution mode for launch (an emulated 640x480 display); the forced 640x480 mode was causing more problems than it was worth. Higher resolutions are planned for a later patch. This may cause display issues with certain recording software, so if you plan to record gameplay you may need to configure your software for window capture.
- Added a "Strafe On" key that defaults to Alt. Holding this key allows you to use Turn Left and Turn Right to strafe in the corresponding direction. Ideal for old-school keyboard setups.
- Added back in a brief overview of the controls. A message at the beginning of the game displays to inform players to use F1 for a list of controls.
- Added extra sounds for weapons equipped with several damage upgrades.
- Added a new type of map piece.
- Changed the way health, ammo, and bombs display - they are now displayed in an x/x form.
Bug Fixes
- Fixed a bug where mapping a control to one of the mouse buttons would cause every key to perform that action.
- Fixed a bug where saving and exiting would not record the total time of the run accurately.
Balancing
- Rebalanced the way items spawn. In particular, the previous version was spawning too many Framework Nodes to be practical.
- Removed items in the final boss fight. The reason for this was to increase the level of tension at the end of the game and require some planning on the player’s part.
- The Blade now deals higher base damage for all classes (and the Berserker still starts with more than the other classes). This will hopefully make melee a little more viable.
- Berserker now starts with slightly faster base speed.
- Sapper now starts with slightly faster launcher fire rate.
Thank you, and enjoy!
EDIT: The next major update will be planned for between May 5 and May 12, 2017. Please don't hesitate to report bugs in the Bug Reports section of the forum, and request new features in the Feature Requests section! Generally, large features must be planned for the following patch, but small things that are relatively easy to implement can usually be bumped up the list, and of course, major bugs always take high priority. I will also be looking at implementing Achievements for this month. Thanks again!
