Dangers of the Irish Coast
In our last update, we looked at some of the locations you’ll be travelling to during your adventure. As you pursue the wicked Pirate Witch, Flora Burn, you’ll need to work your way through the hordes of enemies she has left in her wake!
By transforming everyone onboard the HMS Barfleur into rats, Flora was able to kidnap Admiral Blacksmith’s son and make her escape to the Irish shore! To ward off any would-be pursuers, Flora has corrupted much of the native plant and animal life, creating malformed and dangerous creatures…
Giant. Enemy. Crab.
Before you’ve even managed to step off Shipwreck Beach you’ll come face to claw with Armoured Crabs. These enemies come in several shapes and sizes but the ones to look out for are the larger, tougher, ones. With hard shells and sharp pincers, the crabs will make short work of anyone that gets too close; however, a well-timed parry will stun the killer crustacean allowing you to strike its softer underbelly.
A Sticky Situation…
Venturing further inland you’ll eventually climb to the heights of Eriu’s Forest. This lush woodland may seem peaceful at first, but it is filled with vicious insects and plants ready to strike. Hidden among the branches are the large Caterpillars, gargantuan bugs that can birth smaller offspring to attack intruders. Be careful not to get webbed in the Caterpillar’s sticky silk or risk being swarmed.
To the bat cave!
If the forests are too much, try delving down into the deep caves of the Flying Rat’s Hole. As the name suggests, the caverns are brimming with Giant Bats ready to swoop in on unsuspecting victims. Don’t rely on the cave walls to protect you as the bats can manoeuvre their way through obstacles before unleashing a lightning-fast dive bomb!
Precarious heights
Make it out of the caves alive and you may find yourself clinging to the Cliff of the Winds. The harsh winds and narrow platforms are made even more treacherous by the mischievous Puffins. Despite their adorable appearance, these puffins will take any chance they can get to knock you off a ledge onto the rocky shore below.
Hard shells
Below the gorgeous orange canopy of Banba’s Forest lurk some incredibly tough Giant Beetles that can be difficult obstacles to overcome. Their hard exoskeletons render them impervious to most attacks. You’ll either need to whip around to their rear or execute a timely parry when they come rolling towards you.
Grave of the fireflies
Somewhere just below the surface of the Irish Coast lies the Moonlight Lough, a beautifully colourful cave system filled with dew-covered grass and flowing rivulets. Don’t get distracted by the enchanting view or you may fall victim to the explosive Fireflies that lurk in the shadows. Tread carefully as the deceptively glowing bugs can seemingly vanish without a trace, one wrong move and you’ll face a mighty explosion that may even trigger a chain reaction.
That’s all for now, there are still plenty of dangers to uncover on your journey to defeat Flora Burn. Stay tuned for more announcements soon!

Exploring the Irish Coast
Land ho!
Shake off your sea legs and prepare to explore the Irish Coast as we take a sneak peak at some of the many locations you’ll be traversing in Curse of the Sea Rats!
Shipwrecked on the rocky shores of this strange land, you’ll soon discover a host of intriguing environments brimming with dangerous enemies, and treasures to uncover!
The storm-lashed coast
You’ll begin your adventure on the aptly named Shipwreck Beach, where you’ll need to wade through waves of pirates and beasts that Flora has rallied to her cause. You’ll also find many friendly faces by the wreck of the HMS Barfleur where Admiral Blacksmith and his crew are busy making repairs.
Make sure to visit Major Mallory to learn from his many years of fighting experience or head up to Quartermaster Robert Garfield’s shop to buy some much-needed supplies.
A haven of calm
Venture far enough through the labyrinthine caves surrounding Shipwreck Beach and you’ll eventually work your way up to the verdant pastures of Molly’s Warehouse. In stark contrast to the rugged shoreline, Molly’s quaint dwelling is a welcoming site! Here the hardworking Molly and venerable Granny Malone raise their livestock in peace and comfort, a scenic respite from an otherwise harsh and unforgiving environment!
Forest of mystery
Situated high on the cliffs overlooking the Irish Sea, gnarled trees envelop ancient ruins in the mysterious Eriu’s Forest. This verdant locale is home to a variety of carnivorous plants, vicious insects, and even camouflaged pirates!
With branches and bark jutting out across the landscape, you’ll need to be light on your feet to navigate the area safely and avoid a long, perilous fall!
Into the spider’s web
Deep beneath the roots of Eriu’s Forest, lie the nightmarish, cobwebbed burrows of the Spider’s Nest. It will be easy to get lost in the tangled tunnels so you’ll need to bring a reliable source of light to guide you through the overwise pitch-black environment!
Filled with scuttling, eight-legged monstrosities you’ll also need to ensure that you have a plentiful supply of antidote vials to combat the potent arachnoid venom…
There are plenty more dangerous and mysterious locations to uncover along the Irish Coast and we can’t wait for you to discover these when Curse of the Sea Rats launches in early 2023!
Until next time,

Boss Spotlight: Rama Cinnamon
Ahoy Sea Rats!
We’re back with another Boss spotlight for Curse of the Sea Rats with a close look at another of Flora’s wicked crew.
Flora Burn has truly sailed to the ends of the Earth gathering the most vicious pirates from all four corners to help in her quest for power. One such pirate, Rama Cinnamon, likes to think of herself as a strategic genius and likes to taunt her foes.
Armed with a whip and her wit, Rama sits atop the very apex of Erui’s forest, lying in wait for the Sea Rats. Unlike Sharpie, Rama holds no sense of comradery or sportsmanship towards the Sea Rats and relishes the thought of fighting!
Goddess on the Mountain Top
You’ll need to climb all the way to the top of Erui’s Forest to face off against Rama. Standing in your way is a whole swath of Flora’s troops as well as some of the strangest bugs and insects to inhabit the land.
Fight your way through pirates, and beetles, and laser slugs (oh my!) across the vast overgrown trees. Like the Cliff of the Winds, you’ll need to be quick on your feet to traverse the dense jungle-like area.
As you reach the summit be cautious, Rama has set several traps lying in wait for you…
Five Lashes Be Owed
Using her whip, Rama has some incredible reach with her attacks as she cracks it down on the exposed branch arena. Get too close to her and she’ll her acrobatic skills to leap around and gain as much ground between the both of you as possible.
Occasionally, she’ll leap into the air and unleash a flurry of whip strikes that envelop the immediate area. Even without her whip. she can deal some serious damage as she spins violently and gracefully back and forth.
As with many of Flora’s crew, Rama possesses some supernatural powers. In Rama’s case, she can control vines and the fauna surrounding her causing waves of thorns and deadly plants to chase the player.
Good luck in facing Rama and the rest of Flora’s crew! There are plenty of other creeps and creatures to uncover on the coast of Ireland, if ye dare…

Boss Spotlight: Sharpie the Sharp
Welcome back, shipmates!
By now, you’ve gotten to know a few of the devilish scoundrels that make up Flora Burn’s crew in Curse of the Sea Rats. Following on from the spotlights for Fatso and Murat Reis, we’re here to introduce you to the next pirate challenger, Sharpie the Sharp.
Sporting two curved blades, Sharpie certainly lives up to her name. However, unlike the rest of Flora’s gang, Sharpie is nothing if not empathic, recognising the plight of the heroes as she too was once a prisoner of the British Empire…
You didn’t fall? Inconceivable!
You’ll need to be fast on your feet if you hope to chase down Sharpie the Sharp. Located deep in a forlorn and remote area of the Cliff of the Winds, Sharpie is well within her element.
With harsh winds attempting to upset the balance of anyone foolish enough to descend its treacherous cliffside, the narrow platforms hold little comfort for anyone caught off-guard. If that wasn’t enough, Flora has placed several marksmen in strategic locations to take down any pursuers, taking pot-shots whenever you are at your most vulnerable.
Keep an ear out for the enraged cries of the local puffin population as well. Once they see someone encroaching on their territory they’ll dive, beak first, at intruders to protect their eggs!
You Seem a Decent Fellow
Once you’ve successfully manoeuvred your way down the cliffside and braced the icy winds, Sharpie will be waiting to stop you in your tracks.
Unlike her crewmates, Sharpie is more willing to embrace you as a fellow prisoner and openly welcomes you into the folds of Flora’s crew! Your refusal to join her however will soon eradicate any initial good-will she had towards you…
A pirate through and through, Sharpie is perhaps the deadliest swordsman on the island. She is precise, swift, and deadly at all ranges as she hurls razor-sharp gusts of air from her blades.
Capable of harnessing the harsh winds that whip around her, Sharpie utilises the cliffs to create the perfect offence and defence. Avoid getting close for too long as Sharpie can surround herself with a damaging vortex!
Stray too far, however, and Sharpie will unleash her lightning-fast lunge attack. Disappearing for a moment, Sharpie will leap forwards, cutting anything in her path into ribbons.
Will you be nimble enough to survive the Cliff of the Winds, and Sharpie’s relentless attacks?

Boss Spotlight: Murat Reis
Ahoy Sea-Rats!
Welcome back to our Curse of the Sea Rats boss rundown! Last time around we showcased the first of Flora Burn’s deadly crew, the brutish bully Fatso.
Now we shift our attention to another member of her ruthless gang, the mysterious and cunning vampire rat, Murat Reis.
Bat to the Bone
To reach Murat Reis, you’ll need to head down into the depths of Flying Rat’s Hole. Filled with deadly protruding spikes, a dexterous set of paws will be required to navigate the various tunnels beneath the Shellfish Rocks.
Once you’ve successfully ducked and dived your way through the first few sections of the cave system, you’ll be faced with the locked door to Murat’s domain which can only be opened using a special key. Past this, and descending deeper and deeper, you’ll eventually come face to face with the villainous vampire himself!
Love at First Bite
On top of his impeccable dress sense, Murat Reis possesses a unique set of weapons and vampiric abilities which make him a formidable foe indeed.
Upon entering the cavernous lair of Murat Reis you’ll immediately notice the exceptionally tall ceiling. Murat Reis makes good use of this space by flying and levitating. This may seem daunting to landlubbing sea rats at first, but be sure to sneak in some aerial attacks when you get the chance!
Murat Reis wields his trusty rapier with deadly speed, darting from one end of the cave to the other. You’ll need to be quick on your feet if you want to avoid getting caught in his path.
To compliment his sword skills, the vampire rat has the power to command dark magic which he can use to call forth multiple harmful columns of crimson energy. Keep an eye on the ground for signs of a bubbling eruption waiting to happen!
Beware as Murat Reis has one last trick up his sleeve… While you’re busy dodging his fountains of dark magic and rapier blows, he’ll also be trying to hit you with his brace of throwing daggers! You’ll need your wits about you if you want to avoid taking unnecessary damage and overcome this flamboyant foe once and for all.
We hope you’ve enjoyed learning more about the devilish crew of Flora Burn, but stay tuned as we’ll be back with more boss battle spotlights soon!

Boss Spotlight: Fatso
Welcome back sea rats!
Today we’ll be kicking off a new series of posts dedicated to showcasing some of the many varied bosses that you’ll be encountering throughout your mission to save Admiral Blacksmith’s son from the clutches of the wicked Captain Flora Burn!
Many of these powerful foes are in fact elite members of the pirate-witch’s nefarious crew tasked with stopping you from achieving your ultimate goal. The very first member of this dastardly bunch is the barrel-tossing, wise-cracking glutton, Fatso.
Fatso is a large and intimidating bilge rat who makes up for his lack of speed and table manners with his immense strength! Fatso also happens to love a good party and so carries around a large barrel wherever he goes…
You’ll find Fatso in the Shipwreck Beach area, literally blocking your path forwards, so you’ll need to best him in a good old-fashioned scrap if you want to continue your adventure.
The barrel-toting ruffian has no issue with swinging his weight around. Avoid his big sweeping attacks or be whacked across the room! Fatso loves to fight but can also get a bit carried away, if you get hit by his body slam attack, he’ll pause and have good belly laugh. Use this window of opportunity to get in a few licks before he composes himself for another swing.
His barrel isn’t just for partying either, during the fight Fatso will shake up the fizzy contents and use the resulting gas explosion to launch himself towards you!
The last thing to watch out for are his smaller, spiked barrels which he hurls across the floor. Only the nimblest of Sea Rats will have a chance of avoiding these so get ready to jump!
Stay tuned as we explore what other dangers lurk along the Irish Coast in our next update…

Unaware of its true power, Admiral Blacksmith entrusts the amulet to you in the hopes it will aid you in retrieving his son.
