Dasher

Major Game Balancing, Optimization and Compatibility Update - Version 1.2.3

Hello everyone, and welcome, to another Official Dasher Update!

Many things are changed for the better, even for a simple game such as Dasher, so let me list them down bellow:

Bit Collection and Grinding:

  • Average amount of bits earned per enemy destroyed has been greatly increased.
  • It is now possible to buy an upgrade or background per run, on average, depending on how good you are at the game.

Difficulty, Enemies and Related things

  • The door to the exit of the map had a collision hitbox that was too huge to be properly broken by the player, making it so that the player could not move it out of the way. Now the hitbox has been adjusted can be pushed easily after breaking it.
  • Enemies now become aware of each other sooner and will try to circle the player to better trap and kill him.
  • Enemy movement speed slightly decreased, but Yellow and Red acceleration increased to 5% bonus movement speed by second, from about 0.5%.
  • Keys no longer slow the player down after being collected.

Performance improvements and Compatibility

  • There was a poor written method on the game made to handle spawn-able objects, such as the player's smoke, enemies pieces and some other smoke effects, causing FPS to drop 100 to 200 frames on some machines. It is now fixed.
  • Dasher was initially designed to properly run on a fixed 60 frames per second environment, which means that machines that had faster monitors would run the game at the speed of light. Now the game should run properly in any framerate.

Post pandemic update

Hello everyone, Moonbad here.

After a long time without coding, because mostly of the whole pandemic thing, I'm happy to announce that Dasher will receive an update in the near future. The update aims to fix the following problems:

- Machines with monitors with an update greater than 60Hz+ cause Dasher to run much faster than normal, making the game unplayable to many. This is because Dasher was designed to only run on 60Hz machines, so I'll be adjusting the code to be compatible with all framerates.

- The Store has prices that are too unreasonable, so I'm increasing the amount of average Bits earned per enemy by a lot, about 7.5 times, which should remove most of the unnecessary grind in the game.

- My pixel art skills have improved as well, so I'll be updating some of the things inside the game, specially the map.

As for the future of the game, I'll continue to improve it little by little, maybe adding new game modes or maps, but surely fixing the bugs.

Dasher Translation Update

Hello everyone, Doctor Moonbad here again with a new Dasher update:

# Polish Translation:
- Dasher received a Polish translation by the awesome Jakob Niklas. He was really kind to make this translation for free, and as a result also received a free copy of Dasher as well, with his name on the credits. Thank you Jakob!

# Multilanguage Support:
- Dasher has received a code update that allows for new languages to be easily added to the game, making the process much faster. The current available languages are the original, English, and the recently added one, Polish.

And that's all for today! Thanks for playing Dasher, and I see you all on the next update.

Dasher After-Release Update

Hello everyone, Doctor Moonbad here with Dasher's first update:

# Sounds:
- Dasher's dash sound slightly reduced.
- Enemies damage sound slightly increased.

# Upgrade Store:
- Scroll sensitivity greatly increased, now it is easier to navigate.

# Pause Menu:
- The pause menu has now a button called 'commit seppuku'. The player can use it to end his / her run anytime (with honor even).

# User Interface:
- The controls visualization has been improved: the player can now see where the pivot point for rotation is, while also being able to see the direction where Dasher is going to.

And that's all for today, thank you for playing Dasher, and have fun!
