Dawn of Man

Version 1.8.2 released

Hello all,

This is a maintenance update to fix a couple of issues.

Changes

  • On Windows, the game now detects if the user has changed the mouse pointer size in the system and adjusts the position of tooltips accordingly, to avoid the cursor overlapping the text. This is a fix for the issue reported here.
  • Updated to latest Unity 2022.3.21, this fixes the issue of some Mac players not being able to click on the UI. Reported here.

We are looking forward to any feedback.

Thanks for supporting Dawn of Man!

Martiño.

Version 1.8.1 released

This changes the behavior for non-QWERTY keyboards so it makes more sense, in particular for french AZERTY, there are two options:

a) If you set the windows keyboard language to English, the default configuration will just work (you will be able to use the right keys to move the camera around) but the prompts will be wrong.

b) If you set the windows keyboard to French, the default configuration will be wrong, but you can remap the keys in the settings and then all the button prompts will be correct.

Version 1.8.0 released

Hello Everyone,

We've finally managed to spare some time from the development of our new project to release version 1.8.0.

The game now runs on the latest Unity stable version (2022.3 ATM).
We've been wanting to upgrade for a while, but unfortunately this wasn't a trivial task, as there were some changes in the random and math libraries, that were breaking our procedural map generation.
It took us a while, but we got everything sorted out and managed to upgrade.
This should provide better compatibility across the board for newer systems.

New Grass/Reed rendering

Grass and reed details, are now rendered as geometry instead of billboards, and they are also using different shaders to the rest of the terrain details.
They now look nicer, provide more coverage, and blend better with the terrain.

Terrain Shadows

In High and Ultra quality modes, terrain now casts shadows, see the difference in this screenshots:

New Fullscreen Modes

You can now select Exclusive fullscreen mode in settings screen, this provides an alternative to anyone that might be experiencing issues with the current Borderless mode.
On Mac we are also now supporting Maximized mode.

Other changes

- Disabling IMGUI layouts, which saves random memory allocations.
- Removed duplicate string warnings for workshop scenarios.
- Updated Madruga Works logo.
- Better handling of some OneDrive errors.

We want to take this chance to thank everyone in the community that supported us and allows us to keep on making games!

THE LONG STORY

We've finally managed to spare some time, from the development of our new project, to update the game to the latest Unity.

This wasn't a trivial task, since they've updated the Math and Random libraries, meaning that the maps generated by the game were totally different, which among other things was breaking savegames.
After some investigation and hacking we believe we managed to fix the problem, so the maps generated should be identical to version 1.7.2 and savegames should be fine, but we would like to gather feedback from the community before publishing this to the default branch.

Upgrading to the latest unity comes with some much needed improvements to the terrain engine, we can now render details (which we use for grass, reeds, sticks etc...) with different shaders, which is nice, so we can use proper geometry for grass/reeds, which look nicer, especially when in the shade.

We've also enabled shadows from the terrain mesh itself which are a cool addition, see the difference:

Additionally we've added support for exclusive window mode in the settings, which will give people an option if the default borderless window is causing issues.

We are looking forward to any feedback.
Thank you everyone for their support all these years!
