Dawn of the Robot Empire

v1.0.6 is available on the beta branch

New Features:
- use staff to spear standard robot
- use staff to smash robots glass head
- use staff to knock robot down or off game grid
- standard robots can now approach closer to the player

Note: robots will not approach closer to the player until mid-game. Additionally not all robots will move closer to the player, only some of them will.

If you have a really large play area you'll be able to spear robots any time simply by walking up to them and spearing them. However, for the rest of us you'll need to wait till they make that move to get closer to you.

Smash and spear the standard robot!

Coming soon is an update that improves the physical interactions between the staff weapon and the normal robots. You'll be able to smash their glass heads or spear them with staff and use them as a shield!

New update - New 'spin' robot

v1.0.5 Changes:
* Added new 'spin robot'
* Reworked later enemy waves to include new robot and last longer.
* Improved standard robot movement
* Improved hover bot homing bullet deflection with shield (more accurate / faster response)
* Improved physical interaction of staff / shield with the world and new spin robot.
* Added build version to pause menu.
* Added new audio effects for player damage (from blades, rocks or electric shock).
* Fixed bug with standard robot lightning attack (if gravity is off).
* Fixed bug with spider climbing up steep incline.
* Fixed bug to prevent snake eye from being damaged when speared simply by shaking staff.

Available if you opt-in to the beta. Thanks for playing!

The future

I’ve been waiting a long time for a viable consumer ready VR system and as a game creator I could spend the rest of my life developing experiences for it. It’s fun, exciting and challenging all at the same time.

Dawn of the Robot Empire is my 1st VR game. I’ve really tried to make the interactions feel as physical as possible to make it seem like you’re in the world and can interact with it. e.g. the laser pistol not only shoots; you can use it to “bash” enemies. An example of this is seen in the game trailer where you can ‘spear’ a robotic snake with your staff weapon and then bash it’s armored eye till it breaks. It’s something that you’ve probably seen in a fantasy movie or performed in another game by pushing an “action” button. But here you’re really doing it. The haptic feedback makes all those hits really connect.

The HTC-Vive is the 1st device that IMO meets the minimum standard needed to create real VR experiences. Those controllers and the perfect tracking make my game possible. When you swing your arm to knock out the robotic snake you really are swinging your arm hard and fast. You're not having to hold back because of some limitation of the tracking system.

I do plan to eventually support the Oculus Rift using the Touch controllers. However, it may be sometime before that happens as it's not clear when they will be available.

Thanks.
