PTS 1.3: New Base Tiers & Backpack in Backpack Storage

Hello Deadsiders!

Today we begin public testing of version 1.3!

Before we get into the details of this version, it's important that we let everyone know that there will be NO WIPE! So no need to worry about the fortresses that you have constructed, they will still be there when version 1.3 releases.

This version continues to expand our base building with the addition of two new base tiers, logs and concrete. Log structures are simple to construct, allowing us to reduce the health of Branch tier. This means any impromptu Branch structures that players construct in combat will now be much less effective. Concrete is now the strongest tier, dethroning metal. This will allow players to make their bases even more secure, however raiders will be getting a stronger explosive charge as well.

The full patch notes can be found below the testing instructions. There are some exciting features like backpack in backpack storage, so give it a read!

How to connect to the Public Test Server (PTS):

  • Right-click Deadside in your Steam library; click on Properties…;
  • Choose BETAS, then select the “public_test_server - PTS” branch from the drop-down menu;
  • Wait for the update to download and launch the game;
  • Connect to one of the available official PTS servers, which depends on your location.

How to switch back to the live version of the game:

  • Right-click Deadside in your Steam library, then click on Properties…;
  • Choose BETAS, then select the “None” branch from the drop-down menu;
  • Wait for an update to download and launch the game;
  • Connect to one of the available official live servers depending on your location.

Patch Notes:

  • Added two new base tiers; Log and Concrete. Tier progression will now look like:

    • Branch - now with heavily reduced HP
    • Log
    • Plank
    • Metal
    • Concrete

  • Added Reinforced Explosives, an expensive raiding item that does the most damage to bases
  • Added a new comfort item - a shooting target
  • Added Concrete Mixer, a new base module for tier progression
  • Added Cement, Concrete Mix, and Bricks
  • Remodeled the RPK-mod and M-133
  • Empty backpacks can now be stored inside of other backpacks
  • Added more building blockers to bridges, let us know if more blockers are needed!
  • Removed nails from traders
  • Removed camera shake when using an Axe or Knife
  • Reduced character swaying when standing

Let us know what you think about these changes, enjoy testing!

Future Plans & 1.2 Overview Video

Hello Deadsiders!

Today we would like to discuss our plans for development going forward, so that you know what to expect from our next few updates. Though before we begin, if you haven’t seen much about version 1.2 yet, we have created a short overview video that covers the major changes:

It's important to remember that any plans we discuss today may need to change. There are many factors that go into the decision making process during game development, and we believe that keeping a relatively flexible development plan helps us make the best game possible. This is also why we won’t be giving out any dates today, though we can at least tell you which features will take the most development time.

If you are in our official discord, you may have already heard that we are planning to add more base upgrade tiers soon. Bases will now have five tiers, with the addition of a new tough brick/concrete, and a log tier. New concrete and brick items will be added to the game world to accommodate the new brick/concrete tier. Additionally, the plank tier has been visually remodeled and improved. Here are a few WIP development screenshots showing the new base structures:

New tiers aren’t the only thing you can expect to be added into base building, we are also working on sandbag barricades, and possibly 1/4th walls. Though the smaller walls will need to be playtested carefully before being released to the live client, so you can expect a PTS update with them at some point.

Looking farther into the future, while we are working with various features and ideas, a lot of our effort is currently going into creating a modkit. As we mentioned before, creating a modkit for Deadside requires lots of time consuming R&D. It's likely that we will release multiple versions of the modkit as time goes on, with each release containing more features, and allowing for more modification to the game. This work has to be done carefully, as there are anti-cheat and other security concerns inherent to releasing these files. Our priority is to create a modkit with the features you want, while maintaining the integrity of the game that players expect.

While our programmers are hard at work with the modkit, our artists and level designers have begun working on a new map! This second map is much smaller than our current one, built for high intensity PvP, while being visually distinct from the autumn forests that Deadsiders have become accustomed to over the years. Currently this map is still early in development, so you will still see some empty areas in this preview image. These areas will eventually be populated, but in the meantime have a look at this WIP image:

We are always looking to the community for feedback on features and ideas, with Nolt being one of our primary platforms for this purpose. So if you have an idea that you would like us to consider, head over there and let us know! Voting on ideas you like, or dislike, is just as important. It helps us gauge which features the community wants overall. Of course we also have the #feedback-and-report channel which we monitor as well.

Thanks for reading, let us know what you think about our plans!

Game Moderation

Hello Deadsiders!

Today we would like to discuss in more detail some changes in community management, while reminding everyone about the in-game rules of conduct. This is especially relevant now that Deadside has a team of game moderators, which has already proved its effectiveness dealing with cheaters and maintaining order on the servers. This is also a huge credit to our community, thank you for your reports!

Be sure to join the official Deadside server on #Discord and take an active part in the development of the game and community. We adhere to the principles of fair play and strive to make the gameplay enjoyable for all players. So if you suspect a player of unfair play using third-party software, gaining an advantage by using exploits, offensive behavior, griefing, or other actions aimed at breaking the normal gameplay for other players - be sure to let us know in the channel #feedback-and-report, the moderator team reacts quite fast.

⚠️Please be advised that with the release of update 1.2 we have disallowed building on bridges, but on some of them it is still technically possible ( will be fixed in the next update). Nevertheless, structures that block the traffic on bridges and riverbeds disrupt gameplay for other players and will be considered as a violation. In addition, players have been very creative in building offensive symbols and words using the game's base-building mechanics, which is also an in game violation.

We have provided players with the ability to communicate freely in the game's chat, but obviously we all see inappropriate offensive language, spamming, or other inappropriate behavior on a frequent basis.

The violations mentioned above will now result in temporary and permanent bans. Moreover, we are implementing a progressive penalty system so that repeated violations will result in more severe sanctions. We do not plan to start a witch hunt, but we are committed to ensuring that all players have the best possible experience playing Deadside.

If you received a ban and it is not shown on your Steam account, you probably got a temporary ban, you can check it in the channel #temp-bans on our Discord server - this is a temporary solution, in the near future all information about the ban, if you received it, will be displayed in the game client..

The next point relates to changes in the appeals process. We will now use the form: https://tblink.co/DeadsideBanAppeal

Appeals for bans issued due to the use of prohibited software can still be made on the BattlEye website at https://www.battleye.com/contact/.

I would like to draw your attention in advance that we do not provide “amnesty” or unbanning for any reason if you have been detected for cheating. Account safety is entirely the responsibility of its owner, remember that. The use of cheats on an account will result in loss of access to the game, no matter who used it.

Temporary ban - consider that you were given time to think about, as you went way overboard. Make conclusions and do not repeat mistakes. Do not expect that the ban will be lifted on the basis of “I won't do it again”

Play fair and Respect other players - this is the main tenet of the Deadside community

Pretty soon we will share some news regarding some future development plans for the game - should be really interesting, stay tuned ;)

Update 1.2 - Triangular Structures, Assault Ladders, Respawn Changes

Hello Deadsiders!

Tomorrow at 9:00AM CET / 12:00AM PST, we will begin the release of version 1.2!

⚠️Warning:
During the patch deployment, servers will be temporarily unavailable for technical maintenance. We expect this maintenance to last around 60-90 minutes. Game client update is required.

The release of this update to the live servers will require a wipe. All items, bases, safezone storage and player inventories will need to be reset for the update to function correctly on release.

Along with the wipe, important changes will be coming to many official servers. Some official servers will be renamed (300 & 400s), while others with low traffic will be closed. All official servers with the exception of scheduled raid servers will no longer have scheduled wipes, using the “no wipe” setting. Scheduled raid servers will still wipe, with scheduled wipes once per month. Lastly, the raid period on scheduled raid servers has been increased to 6 hours.

Thank you for your participation and feedback during public testing! A handful of changes have been made based on the test, the most notable being a change to the half wall model. Half walls previously only covered about a third of the wall area, now they are larger and cover half of the available space. Along with an assortment of bug fixes, Assault Ladders can now be placed in water.

Before we get into the patch notes, we would like to mention that our official moderation team is fully up and running! If you need to report a player, sending a report through the #feedback-and-report channel in our discord is now by far the fastest method. Our moderators are monitoring the report channels, and are able to begin investigating quickly. Cheaters beware!

Patch Notes:

  • Added Triangular Structures and Half Walls
  • Added Assault Ladders
  • Added weapon inspect animations when pressing [G]
  • Added the ability to partially repair weapons in the workbench
  • Rebalanced armor protection - high tier armors are now more resistant to weaker weapons
  • Rebalanced weapon availability
  • Reduced the crafting cost of Dynamite and Explosive Charges
  • Reduced the submersion depth of foundations and made bodies of water deeper for better base balance
  • Nails and Rebar are now required to upgrade structures to higher tiers
  • Added corpses and new vehicle props in various locations
  • Updated map icons, added map icons for Wood & Metal Planners
  • Removed seasonal items

New Respawn Mechanics:

  • Players respawn at 50HP using bags outside of their base claim
  • Players respawn at 75HP using bags inside of their base claim
  • Players respawn at 100HP using a bed inside of their base claim

New Community Server Settings:

  • Admins can now customize the sleeping bag limit
  • Admins can now disable sleeping bag placement in POIs
  • Admins can now add moderators, who get access to only moderation tools in the admin panel
  • Servers now log admin panel actions in a file that can be downloaded through your online dashboard

Thanks for reading, enjoy the update!

Update 1.1.3: Official Server Moderation & Anti-Cheat Team

Hello Deadsiders!

On Thursday 11:00AM CET / 2:00AM PST, we will begin the release of version 1.1.3!

This update adds more functionality to the admin panel, and technical support for Official server moderation!

We saw a big increase in player count following our release, with unfortunately more cheaters to accompany them. We have been doing our best to address the issue, but based on the recent feedback from the community, a different approach is required. So we have created the tools required for an Official server moderation team.

These moderators will have access to some limited admin tools on official servers, allowing them to hunt down cheaters. Moderators will respond to player submitted reports, drastically reducing report processing time. After finding a cheater in game, moderators will be able to quickly issue a game ban using a separate tool outside of the game itself. With the help of this team, cheaters will be detected and banned faster than what was possible before.

Community server admins will be getting more support in this update as well. Admins will have the option to assign a moderator role to players, giving them limited access to admin tools.

Additionally, the game server now logs any admin tool actions, which can be viewed by requesting the log file from your server host. With these added functions, server owners will be able to keep a closer eye on their admins, ensuring that they are using their powers responsibly.

Thanks for reading, more news to come tomorrow!

WIP: Half Walls, Triangle Structures & Rebalancing

Hello Deadsiders!

Lots of planning has been done going into 2025 post release, and we believe it's time to show you what we have been working on! After talking with our community and looking through the suggestions you have put on our Nolt, we have a handful of features planned for the immediate future. Some of them you can expect to begin testing fairly soon, while others may need more development time.

Base Building & Raiding:

In our next update you can expect to see triangular foundations, triangular floors, as well as half walls! Using triangular objects, you can make more defendable and complex bases while being efficient with your space. Half walls are perfect for shooting floors, especially when combined with auto-turrets. Here is a work in progress development screenshot of these new objects:

While your bases may be more secure with these new objects, we have also added a new tool to shake up raiding; Assault Ladders! These will allow you to climb onto bases without blowing open a wall, and gives you a tool to deal with roof campers. Be sure to lock your windows when this feature is released!

Construction upgrade costs, as well as raiding material crafting requirements are currently being rebalanced. While development here isn’t done yet, we can tell you now that nails and rebar are going to be required for upgrades once again. More work in this area will be done during internal and public tests

Respawns:

We have gotten lots of feedback about our sleeping bag/respawn system after release, though this feedback varies heavily depending on the specific playstyle and preferences of the player. Finding a system that suits everyone has been a challenge, so we have decided to create an option for community servers to disable sleeping bag placement in POIs. This option won’t be used on official servers, but it's there for the community servers who would prefer to use it.

We are also playing around with the idea of reducing the HP of players respawning on a sleeping bag outside of your base. This would make it easier to kill players running back into combat after they just died, unless they have a bed in a base nearby that they could use instead. Let us know your thoughts about this idea, the balance of HP values isn’t final yet, and we are always open to community suggestions.

Lastly, we are working on creating a system for sleeping player bodies. This means your player character remains in the server after you have logged out. This will make combat logging nearly impossible, and should fix a few other minor gameplay issues currently present within the game.

Other Changes & Features:

Last but definitely not least are some changes to weapon progression and AI. The various types of AI across the map have had their weapon selection changed. Now they will have lower tier weapons more often, with lower durability. For example, you won’t find AK-mods on military AI anymore. This will encourage players to either purchase weapons from the trader, or to loot high quality weapons from the world, or event rewards. It also slightly reduces the effectiveness of respawning players who have scavenged weapons from slain AI, though bullets from a busted up AK-SU still definitely hurt.

While many of these features are relatively short term, we have some other features planned for the future that take much more development time to complete. The biggest one that we would like to talk about with you today is the creation of a modkit for community run modded servers! As exciting as that prospect might be, we do need to say up front that this task requires time consuming R&D. Work in this area just started, so right now we don’t know when the modkit will be released or what features it will have. But we wanted to let you all know about it now to get some feedback on what our community expects from the feature. So please let us know in the comments here or on our Nolt what you would like to create with this modkit!

Thanks for reading, stay tuned for news on an upcoming public test!
