CELEBRATING 1 YEAR OF DEATH STRANDING ON PC

Welcome, Porters! Antonela here, Director of Global Community at 505 Games working on the PC edition of DEATH STRANDING. On July 14th 2020, the team at KOJIMA PRODUCTIONS and 505 Games launched DEATH STRANDING onto PC, something we’re all immensely proud of and want to celebrate today.

ESTABLISHING CONNECTIONS

DEATH STRANDING revolves heavily around establishing connections, something we’ve tried to do more than ever with our players during these challenging times over the past year. The level of connectivity and positivity demonstrated in response to our social media activity has been overwhelming and it’s really motivated us to keep connecting with our PC Porters in whatever ways we can!

Today, we invite everyone to reflect on the past year with us in the form of an interactive events timeline, which can be viewed over on the DEATH STRANDING PC website. We wanted to stop and take a moment to celebrate the positive events from the past year, those moments where we established a connection with our Porters, celebrated success and just had some fun.

http://505.games/1YearDSPC

Here are some of our favourite memories from the past year. What are yours? We’d love to hear your thoughts over on our social media channels!

COMMUNITY AMA SESSIONS

What better way to bridge the gap between the community and the DEATH STRANDING team by inviting everyone to get their burning questions answered in a live Q&A session. To celebrate the launch of DEATH STRANDING on PC, we welcomed the likes of Yoji Shinkawa (Art Director) and Tommie Earl Jenkins (Die-Hardman) to the fan-run subreddit to engage with our community. Check out those sessions here:

SHARING OF KNOWLEDGE

One major thing we’ve noticed over the past year is just how supportive the DEATH STRANDING community are towards one another and how far they’ll go out of their way to help others. Over the past year, we’ve invited our most experienced Porters to share their top tips and advice to others who are just starting their quest to reconnect America. Take a look at some of those blogs here:

PHOTO MODE EVENTS

DEATH STRANDING is filled with incredible photography opportunities and the introduction of photo mode made it possible for our Porters to share their adventures with us.

Over the last 12 months, we’ve invited our community to showcase their journeys with us using the tools available in game. Check out some of our favourite submissions and events here:

KEEP ON KEEPING ON

Let’s wrap this up by once again saying how grateful we all are, here at 505 Games and KOJIMA PRODUCTIONS, for the support you’ve shown us ever since we announced DEATH STRANDING was coming to PC back in 2019. Your kind messages, contribution to events, fan art and photo mode shots brighten our day, so please, keep that content coming! It really does put the biggest smiles on our faces.

One final thing before we sign off. To celebrate our 1-year anniversary, we’re offering Steam users the opportunity to get a massive -60% OFF DEATH STRANDING until July 16th.

Hi Porters! We hope you’re well and staying safe. To celebrate our involvement in the Steam Summer Sale, we’re giving you all another opportunity to contribute to our Central Region interactive map. DEATH STRANDING is all about establishing connections, so what better way to celebrate that message by inviting our PC community to share their journey to reconnect America with us.

On this occasion, we want to see your sunniest and warmest SUMMER photo mode shots. We’ll pick a selection of our favourites to upload over on our website soon after.

http://505.games/DSPCInteractiveMap ːsteamthumbsupː

Want to get involved?

EVENT DETAILS

• Submit your best photo mode shots here in the comments, along with a screenshot highlighting where in the world you’ve taken your photos. This will allow us to pin your shots on our interactive map. Without that additional screenshot, we won’t be able to accurately identify where on the Central Region map the photo was captured.
• Think outside the box and travel far and wide! We’re looking for variety, so do explore as much of the map as possible.
• Please only use the photo mode tools available in game.
• If you wish to include a short message to support your photo submissions, then leave them in the comments and we’ll include them with your captures over on our website!
We will pick approximately 20 shots at the end of the event to upload to our Central Region map.
• Our second interactive Central Region map update is scheduled for week commencing July 5th, so be sure to get those submissions in as soon as possible!

TOMMIE EARL JENKINS’ 10 FAVOURITE DEATH STRANDING PC COMMUNITY CAPTURES

TOMMIE EARL JENKINS’ 10 FAVOURITE DEATH STRANDING PC COMMUNITY CAPTURES

Last month, we invited the incredible Tommie Earl Jenkins (Die-Hardman) to be the judge in our latest DEATH STRANDING PC community photo mode event here on Steam.

Once again, our amazing PC Porters delivered some truly awesome captures, so let us take this opportunity to say a big thank you to everyone that contributed. Our comments section was overwhelmed with stunning shots and it was a difficult task for Tommie to pick out only 10.

In no particular order, here are Tommie’s 10 favourite photo mode shots from the DEATH STRANDING PC Steam community. A massive congrats to all those selected and once again, a big thank you to everyone that took part. To our Top 10, expect to see your shots displayed over on the DEATH STRANDING PC website in the coming weeks.

As for future community events, we’ve got something a little different lined up for our virtual photographers that we’re still working on, but we think you’re going to love. Stay tuned for more info on that.

In the meantime, take care and keep on keeping on!

"I love this photo because it depicts Sam standing on a peak looking out on the vastness of the landscape in all its glory, and you get a sense of wonder and somehow the majestic-ness that lies before him and the journey he's on. So, it's great that the title of this is "Sam's Journey”."

Username: bad_fur_day1
"This photo reminds me of the old James Dean style B&W Hollywood shots. The bad boy essence of Sam Porter Bridges taking a well-deserved break with his truck parked. I can almost see a cigarette in this pic, and it wouldn't be out of place. Once again, the title says it all. "West Coast Classic" this could be Edge Knot City."

Username: YASV
"This photo capture of BB is beautiful. The innocence through the eyes of a child. You can almost see what he's thinking. The emotion in the eyes is so real you can actually feel it. Almost with a sense of playfulness too. I love the play on words in the title. "Peek-a-Lou" like Peek-a-boo. Hence that playful side."

Username: by.Taylor Lautner
"This photo captures the action of the boss fight with Sam and Higgs and I love it because I'm rooting for Sam. Set against the backdrop of the floating whales creates the strangest and eeriest feeling. I'm most captured by the pose of Sam in mid-air with his fist drawn back and ready to strike with all his might. You can feel his determination. Beautifully captured."

Username: elveness
"Love love love this. The title is perfect. "Lost". It couldn't be more poignant. Seeing Sam wander through this crumbling city, devastated by a voidout. You also get the sense that you're looking at him through someone else's eyes, as if someone is watching him from a different vantage point and very low to the ground. Could it be friend or foe? A lot of drama in this shot. Excellent!"

Username: YASV
"This is a brilliant shot captured. "'Route Zero" The loneliness of our porter heading towards the highway and without a vehicle. Perhaps the up side of this is, it might be easier to traverse this highway on foot versus the rocky terrain. Regardless this is stunning all around and I love it for so many reasons. Knowing Sam's journey, you can feel compassion for him knowing what lies ahead."

Username: bad_fur_day1
"This shot gives me life! Mainly because I can feel the energy in this pic. The vibrant colors the motion of the bike and the overall look. I would have this framed in a heartbeat and hang on my wall. Everyone loves the bike and the connection to Norman with his show RIDE. This says it all. I give it a big YAAAAASSSSS!"

Username: Yuric83
"OK, so this shot is everything. Mainly because you can't quite believe you are looking at video game. The detail in Sam's face and skin is so incredible. This person captured the very essence of Sam Porter Bridges, his overall moodiness and no tolerance for BS is seen in his face. The pensiveness in his eyes tells us that he's concentrating fully on his mission or whatever it is he has to do or has done. You can literally see the cogs turning. This is so lifelike that you get the feeling that his eyes will slowly shift up and stare directly at you. Awesome."

Username: C===|[ESP];:;:;:{-XNK-}:;:;:;:;>
"This pic is entitled "Neon Disco X)" and I love it because it has an element of fun even though this scene is very serious. I did have a little chuckle to myself when I first saw it because it does indeed look as though Sam is walking into a disco with a body on his back. If only there was a coat check to leave the body until he finished his drink and had a boogie. The neon color is perfect. This whole pic is very eye catching."

Username: sevenlightyears
"This pic is so full of color and beauty, it's hard not to stare. I love the way Sam is kneeling down as if he too is taken back by the insane amount of color and beauty. It reminds me of the Coral Reef, If you imagine this completely submerged under the ocean, it would probably resemble the reef. It's crazy to think that with all of the chaos and destruction around Sam, nature still finds a way to shine through."

COMMUNITY TOP TIPS

Last year, we put the spotlight on some of the biggest DEATH STRANDING players we know, giving them the opportunity to share their thoughts, knowledge, tips and advice to new and upcoming players.

With that in mind, we took to Discord, Reddit and Twitter and asked some of you to share a personal piece of advice (spoiler free) for PC players. And guess what? You didn’t disappoint! Check out the responses below…

ASK FOR HELP

It’s okay to ask for help. In the beginning this game will be unlike anything you have ever played. You WILL likely get stuck, you WILL likely get frustrated, and you WILL fall down a whole heck of a lot. That's how the game is *trying* to make you feel, frustrated, alone, under-equipped/overworked. You’ll soon understand why. There are several fabulous communities dedicated to this game, just a few clicks away, so if you're ever feeling like you're at wits end, pop into the Discord and chat with some people, share your experiences. Ultimately, that is what this game is about after all: connecting with others.
- Pan1c

COMMUNITY SPIRIT AND EXPLORATION

Like and get liked! It takes only a second to show to other Porters that their constructions helped you in your adventure. Keep in mind that DEATH STRANDING is an experience where sharing and helping other players is important! Also, if you see it, go for it! DEATH STRANDING is one of the most beautiful open-world experiences. The fact that everything you see can be reached is an amazing opportunity to give yourself some challenges. Can I go on the top of this mountain? YES, YOU CAN! Pack your boots, ropes and ladders and go for it. (Don't forget to immortalize the moment with a picture!)
- Tarak Ch.

(Credit: @lochskye)

TAKE YOUR TIME

Take your time. Just like in the real world, rushed actions and abrupt decisions are risky. When making deliveries, be careful and pay close attention to the lovingly detailed world around you. When resting in a private room, put on some music, and read the emails — these help you understand the game world and progress further. After all, DEATH STRANDING is a game that hopes to teach you a vital lesson, if you're just willing to slow down and listen. In a constantly stressed and overworked world, that message is especially valuable.
- Irina

SPEAK TO PREPPERS

Throughout the game there are 'Preppers' holed up in various locations. Each Prepper has their own story that you can learn more about as you help them out and they will even reward you with valuable items and equipment. Make sure to fully explore the world and find all of the Preppers as some of the rewards impact your gameplay.
- Brink

(Credit: bad_fur_day)

TAKE CARE WHEN CROSSING WATER

Not only is the timefall rain dangerous in DEATH STRANDING, but crossing water is also a regular threat for you and your delivery. But this is where your scanner comes into use. Scan the area before you enter the water. Squares in the colours blue, yellow and red will give you information about the water level. Blue water can be crossed easily, while the yellow markers indicate a deeper water level. Be careful about your balance and stamina when entering. Red indicates the deepest water level and you should avoid that entirely. It will instantly sweep you away.
- German Strands

KEEP YOUR FOCUS

DEATH STRANDING may look stunning, but don't let the melancholic beauty of Sam's world fool you – it's unforgiving. From dangerous terrain, cargo hungry MULEs, and disturbing BTs, you'll have numerous obstacles between you and your destination. To give yourself an easier and more enjoyable time, focus on the story for the first few chapters. As with many games, it's easy to get lost in side missions and exploration, but, tackling the story will unlock new items that will make Death Stranding's additional content much more enjoyable.

... And don't forget. No matter how tough the obstacles seem to be, keep on keeping on!
- Enter_the_Fray

Of course, there are more top tips we could share, but here are just a few things to bear in mind before venturing out on your quest to reconnect America. A big thank you to those who offered their wise words of wisdom and stay tuned for another community driven blog soon.

If you have any top tips yourself, be sure to share them with us over on Twitter for a chance to be featured in a future post! Simply use #DeathStrandingPC in your tweet.
