Patch: 0.1.5: Cosmetic Vendor
Our content update for this 5th patch offers a wide selection in character customization. It introduces the Cosmetic Vendor. Our intent is to have players’ unique styles and personalities reflected in the Deathgarden characters. The patch also includes balance changes around Dash and The Inquisitor.
NEW FEATURE: COSMETIC VENDOR
Being in the Deathgarden isn’t only about surviving and killing. It can also be about standing out from the crowd by showing your colours and style. The Cosmetic Vendor will add a styled touch to the gardens by allowing Scavengers and Hunters to buy outfits.
Each cosmetic has been tailored for an individual character and there are 5 new different sets for each Scavenger and Hunter. This means the Cosmetic Vendor arrives with 45 full sets that amount to 180 cosmetic pieces. This is just a start as we plan to add more cosmetics in the future. You can read the full details on the reveal article.
IMPROVEMENTS
GENERAL
Gameplay/Balance: Number of Health Crates Reduced
· The amount of Health Crates is reduced by ~50%.
Design Goal: With the new Recycling mechanic, the number of Health Crates was unbalancing the match as it detracts from the value of Healing Bolt. Health Crates weren’t as much needed. This change will help balance the game in 2 ways: it will balance The Inquisitor’s “Deny Deny Deny” power by limiting the ability to chain stamina increases, and it will make the map easier to navigate.
HUNTER
Comfort: The “Recycle” and “Execution” Buttons Have Been Reconfigured
· The default button callouts for “Recycle” and “Execution” are modified. Respectively, “E” button → “R”; “R” button → “Q”.
Design Goal: Our original intention was to incentivize “Recycling” by replacing the original “Execution” button with the “Recycling” one. Reconfiguring these actions allows for more comfortable controls, and also makes it easier for new players to memorize.
Design Goal: The perk was unbalancing the chase dynamics.
HUNT WITH A FRIEND PUBLIC TEST **UPDATED**
Next week, we will hold a public test for the hunt with a friend (HWF) feature. For those interested, please add it to your calendar!
The HWF public test will be on Thursday, August 1st from 6 PM to 9 PM (EDT).
Specifically, during these 3 hours, the normal 1V5 mode will be replaced by the HWF mode.
More tests are planned in the following weeks, at different times, to ensure all the community’s members can try the new game mode. Stay tuned as we’ll share more information about it.
New Feature: Cosmetic Vendor
It has been hard to keep it secret, but here we are! The next patch will introduce the Cosmetic Vendors, two designers tailoring the fierce Hunters and their nimble prey, the Scavengers. These designers will raise the Deathgarden competitors’ fame by styling them with various cosmetics to bring out their unique nature.
Let’s hit the Proving Grounds and see how it works.
Welcome to Abena's and Wilson’s Shops
Scavengers and Hunters are required to interact with their own vendor to buy cosmetics. Scavengers deal with the Wardrobe Master Abena, while Hunters benefit from Wilson’s help.
“You may have lost everything to get here but you don’t need to go around advertising it.” —Abena Andenet Belai
An up-and-coming designer, Abena's ego rises faster than reality can keep up. While she sees the Scavengers as below her standing, their entry into the Bloodharvest provides the exposure she craves. Knowing an opportunity when she sees it, she’s begrudgingly accepted to outfit the competitors in hopes of drawing the viewers’ attention to their death-defying styles.
Abena’s certain she can make them famous. All they have to do is keep their damn blood off the clothes.
“Any idiot with a gun can blast a scav’s head off. You want to be part of the Enclave’s elite, you gotta set yourself apart.” —Kayla Wilson
A fast-talker who backs the Garden’s top talent, Wilson knows what it takes for a Hunter to become a legend. It doesn’t matter if you impress the fans or scare the hell outta them. What matters is making them remember you. Get geared up and build your brand, because you’re more than a bloodthirsty thug—you’re an icon of the Enclave’s glory.
Showcase Your Nature
Cosmetics make you stand out of the crowd. They stitch a sense of personality and uniqueness on each competitor. Fights in the Garden are a show for the elites living in the Enclave, and fame can be a way to alleviate the pain of dealing with death every day… maybe.
With the update’s release, each Scavenger and Hunter can buy cosmetics from 5 full sets (a grand total of 45 skins). They can buy entire sets or mix and match. Careful, though. Since everything is tailored specifically for each Hunter and Scavenger, exchanging cosmetics from a Scavenger to another is not possible.
Work Hard to Tailor Yourself
The Vendors will accept resources acquired in the Deathgardens as payments. Cosmetics can only be bought with Blood, Ink, and Iron.
Each set it priced differently. Vendors divide cosmetics into different categories based on how they differ from the original attire.
- Standard, a colour swap
- Specialized, original modele with a texture swap
- Superior, minor modele alteration with a texture swap
- And more to come as the game is constantly evolving!
Eager to try out these new cosmetics and show your true, hidden nature? Keep an eye on Deathgarden: BLOODHARVEST as the Cosmetic Vendor feature will arrive in the coming update, on July 25th.
A letter from the dev team
Hello Deathgarden Community,
With the reboot of Deathgarden we accomplished many of the goals we set for ourselves: a darker world, unique characters with “Power” progression, and optional (but still impactful) team play. We’re continuing to improvethese aspects with the very helpful feedback from the community.
As the patches keep coming and the content keeps flowing, we’re working on adding much more to the game. Some of you might already know that we’re working on a new Hunter that’s slightly less aim reliant. We heard your feedback, and we’re exploring different ways of aiming and different weapon styles for upcoming characters.
Prior to the complete revamp of the game, there was one idea that we shelved because of time pressure: a 2 Hunters versus 10 Scavengers mode. With the reboot behind us, we have the opportunity to test this mode with you, the community.
This mode has many interesting possibilities for Deathgarden—a way to play Hunter in co-op being the first obvious result. It’s a feature we have received feedback on almost every day since we revealed the game a year and a half ago. For Scavengers it creates an even deeper sense of dread and fear—something that has recurringly been a part of the positive feedback. It also allows for further team play with the possibility of multiple Scavengers helping each other out in many parts of the map.
Testing a new game mode is no small feat. We are aware there will be balancing issues with our first iteration, and therefore we want to test it out quickly with you. Your help and feedback are precious for the development of the game, as we wish to deliver the best experience possible. We have already made several changes to support the game mode, and we expect to keep working on it with your help.
We’ve planned various play days and hours so everyone can give it a shot and we’ll announce them soon so everyone can try it out!
As for the near future, we teased a new addition to the Locker Room: the cosmetic vendor. Character customization is something that’s been requested for a long time, and it is finally coming to Deathgarden. We also continue to work on new maps, Hunters and Scavengers
We hope to see you in the garden,
The Deathgarden Dev Team

HOTFIX 0.1.4.1: Gruesome Executions
Hotfix July 7th

- Fixed Scavengers' animation after being executed
- Fixed Sawbonesw' vambrace texture
Patch Note: 0.1.4 : Gruesome Executions
Hey Deathgarden community,
The fourth content update patch is upon us! One month after the reboot, our dedication to delivering a great game hasn’t faltered, and we’re thrilled to add new content, new features, and new mechanics.
You’ve asked for it and we’re more than happy to deliver it. This patch will include an improved feature: executions!
NEW FEATURE: EXECUTION ANIMATIONS
Ever wonder how those terrifying Hunters deliver death when they jump into the Deathgarden? We’ve added 3 different executions, one for each Hunter, to show off their personality and ruthlessness.
We’ve been diligent in the creation of these executions to provide Hunters with a sense of supremacy, and Scavengers with a sense of dread.
Every Hunter can now execute their prey. Once a Scavenger has been shot down, the Hunter can close in and execute them in a gruesome manner, asserting their superiority. Before the Scavenger is removed from the Garden, the Hunter will execute them in a deadly lock-in animation, during which players are able to move the camera to get the best view. Once the Hunter disposes of a Scavenger, they can resume the hunt until everyone has been killed – or has escaped their grasp.
Each animation has the same duration and is designed to depict the Hunter’s personality and their prejudice towards Scavengers.
IMPROVEMENTS
GENERAL
Game Health: Proving Grounds Leaderboard Update
- The leaderboard now shows the player’s position as well as those around them, rather than the top 5 players in the world
Design Goal: Our intent is to ensure players have a positive feeling and a sense of achievement when looking at the Proving Grounds leaderboard.
Progression Variety: Character and Player Level Progress Bars Added
- The player level and character level widgets now display progress bars. Players now have access to more information regarding their progression
HUNTER
Player Comfort: Hunters Can Now See Which Scavengers Have Been Recycled
- When damaging a Scavenger, Hunters will now see two distinctive health bar colors:
- Yellow health bar indicates the Scavenger hasn’t been Recycled yet
- Red health bar indicates the Scavenger can be Executed
Design Goal: This change allows Hunters to accurately assess their prey and helps them prioritize targets.
Player Comfort: Rotation Speed Is No Longer Clamped
- Improved the fluidity of rotation speed when sprinting
Balance: Shorter Execution Time During Blood Mode
- During Blood Mode, Execution time has been reduced from (5)s → (1)s
Note: The Execution animation won’t be played during Blood Mode.
Design Goal: Blood Mode is a tense, action-packed experience; we want to highlight that feeling for the player. Waiting 5 seconds to Execute doesn’t reflect the game design intentions.
Balance: The Stalker’s Perk ‘Stealer’ Now Counts for Progression
- The Stalker’s Perk ‘Stealer’ counts towards the overall progression of The Stalker
- The XP stolen will not be included in the ’Proving Grounds’ scores
Game Experience: New Hunter Progression Challenges
- 4 new Progression Challenges are available in the Hunter Progression system:
- Drones: Earn XP in the ‘Drones’ category from the Tally Screen
- Downing: Earn XP in the ‘Downing’ category from the Tally Screen
- Execution/Recycling: Earn XP in the ‘Execution/Recycling’ category from the Tally Screen
- Hacking: Earn XP in the ‘Hacking’ category from the Tally Screen
Note: These new challenges are only available on Characters purchased or Prestiged after the Gruesome Executions Patch.
SCAVENGER
Balance: ‘Speed Boost’ Vambrace Power Duration Reduction
- Dash’s Vambrace Power ‘Speed Boost’ is reduced
- Level 1: (3)s → (2)s
- Each additional level: (.5)s → (.4)s
Design goal: We’ve noticed that the overall escape rates of Dash were higher than those of other Characters. By slightly diminishing his Vambrace power’s effect, our design intent is to ensure all Scavengers have the same survival chances in the Garden.
Balance: ‘Active Camo’ Vambrace Power Noticeability Increase
- When the ‘Active Camo’ Power is active, the heat shimmer is now visible to the Hunter when the affected Scavenger is climbing walls or interacting with Crates or Body Piles.
Player Comfort: The ‘Fire’ Button Won’t Force Slow Movement
- Removed the forced slowed movement while firing. (Hold Left Mouse Button)
Progression Variety: New Scavenger Progression Challenges
- 4 new Progression Challenges are available for Scavengers:
- Construct Defeats: Earn XP in the ‘Construct Defeats’ category from the Tally Screen
- Team Actions: Earn XP in the ‘Team Actions’ category from the Tally Screen
- Resources: Earn XP in the ‘Resources’ category from the Tally Screen
- Hunter Close: Earn XP in the ‘Hunter Close’ category from the Tally Screen
Note: These new Challenges are only available on Characters purchased or Prestiged after the Gruesome Executions Patch.
Player Comfort: Removal of Least Appreciated Scavenger Challenges
- 6 Progression Challenges have been removed:
- Hang time
- Perform a/multiple revive(s)
- Distance fell
- Number of constructs destroyed
- Number of jumps
- Distance crawled while crouched
Note: These challenges are still available on Characters purchased or Prestiged before the Gruesome Executions Patch.
Player Comfort: Inked’s ‘Shield’ Vambrace Power Text Now Matches Its Gameplay
- Clarification of Inked’s ‘Shield’ description to reflect how the Shield reacts when in contact with a Hacked Crate
- When shielded, a Scavenger can pick up a Crate without being revealed, but this action will consume the Shield
Introducing Execution Animations
The Hunters’ bloodlust has reached its apex, and there’s only one thing that can satiate them: Executions!
The newest update will feature a unique execution animation for each hunter.
The Poacher
It is a travesty. The hallowed trial that keeps the unworthy from the sacred halls is being sullied. The Scavengers who compete are an insult to the Garden, ignorant to the magnificence they’re involved in. No respect, no reverence, only a brash overconfidence fueled by their endless greed.
They do not deserve an honorable death. Gut them for what they are: animals.
The Inquisitor
It’s a job. Honest work that requires an honest solution. There’s no harm in taking joy from it; you’re bringing purity to the world, after all. But remain professional. Don’t let them see your finger twitch with anticipation. There will be time later to revel over the moment. For now, keep it behind the mask. Do your job. Set them on their knees, put the barrel to their head and … pull the trigger.
Kill shot.
The Stalker
Just as the hunter has its role, so too does the prey. They have grown strong, feeding on the fruits of the wilds, surviving against the odds. The Mother has provided, taking them by the hand and leading them along the path that ends here, within the Garden. What the rabbit does not know is that it has always been destined for the talons of the eagle. They will be torn, bloodied, and gutted, not of cruelty but out of respect for the natural order, set since the beginning of time.
With their hearts, we honor them, the creations of the Mother, the prey that have fulfilled their purpose: death.
HOTFIX 0.1.3.3: Darius Shaw
- Decreased the number of executions required for Hunter Domination (4) → (3).
Design goal: Since the reboot, Hunter Domination (followed by Blood Mode) was triggered by executing 4 scavengers out of 5. In the last patch (Darius Shaw), we introduced the Recycle Mechanic. The number of downs required to achieve domination then increased from (4) → (8). Based on our metrics, the number of Hunter Dominations has fallen dramatically since the patch. By reducing the number of scavengers to execute, we want to improve the situation.
- Fixed sound issue on Tally Screen after scavenger has been executed under an active drone
- Fixed recycled scavenger spawning beneath the floor
