Deceit

Patch notes v2022.1.1

We hope you’ve been enjoying our updates so far this month, including the End-Game and Escape Hatch Mechanic. Today we have a bundle of updates to whet your appetite ahead of the main event coming next week.

Now, last week’s update was folded into this week’s and we’re bringing you some exciting features.

Pre-game

When you connect into a game, you’ll now be put in a pre-game lobby with the other players you’re playing with. Here, you will be able to select which Terror to play with if you’re Infected, and select your Infected teammate (if you want to that is, you’ll still have the choice of ‘Random’).

You will also be able to select your perks, and you’ll be able to choose which item upgrades you want to take in game. Item upgrades will no longer be available at objective crates in-game, and whichever item upgrades you select will only be consumed if you collect that item in game.

After this pre-game lobby, you’ll then load into the game and instantly begin waking up. We hope this will make your game experience smoother. We tested the amount of time to give people for this pre-game lobby and settled on 30 seconds. Think it’s too long or too short? Let us know in the comments below or on the Discord.

A note for Ranked players: the pre-game lobby shows item upgrades when you are playing Ranked. However, item upgrades not have not been introduced. Once you load into your Ranked games, you won’t have item upgrades, it is just the case that we need to tweak the pre-game lobby for Ranked games. We recognise this is confusing, and in a future release we will change this but we wanted to get the pre-game lobby out now for people to enjoy.

Combat

We’ve made a number of fixes and visual improvements to the combat.

For Terrors, the ‘swipe’ animation that downs Innocents has been updated with an ‘attack’ animation that is more visceral. We hope you’ll agree this makes playing Infected more fun, and being Innocent more scary at night time.

We’ve made improvements to the effect of becoming ‘enraged’: as a Terror you’re sensitive to the lights on the map so they will look brighter.

There has been a re-work of the ‘Torch’ item to make terrors significantly slower when walking towards you, but not when they’re walking away. Terrors, time to start dodging the light.

Objectives

The number of objectives that spawn will be dynamic now: fewer players should mean fewer objectives so the number of crates around the map will change with 4 or 5 player games. We’ve removed some items from later floors in 6 player games, and we’ll be keeping an eye on this dynamic system in case there are changes needed.

Base Cosmetics

Part 2 of our base legendary cosmetics will be released, including some wristbands and a brand new pistol with a unique animation set: ‘Flintlock’.

Don’t forget we’ve got the main update, our 5th Anniversary Event, starting next week on Thursday 31st March.

See you in game!

Patch notes v2022.1.0a

Thank you to everyone who has played the game with the newest update we released on Friday.
We listened closely to your feedback, and made note of issues you've been having, and we released two small fixes on Friday afternoon and Saturday to fix problems with the Labyrinth and with queuing for games in a party.

Today's release address three main things that we have spotted since the major update on Friday.

Ranked changes

Based on feedback from the community, we have made some changes to the Ranked ELO/Mark formula.

The details of the change in this update are:
Marks:

  • If you Survived, earn 2 Marks
  • If you Died and your team wins, earn 1 Mark
  • If you Died and your team loses (or you leave early), lose 1 Mark

ELO:

  • If you Survived, earn the same as now
  • If you Died and your team wins, earn half the ELO you would've gotten had you Survived
  • If you Died and your team loses (or you leave early), lose the same as now

The definition of a ‘Team Win’ here is slightly different: it's literally if the team you were on wins. Before, if you were voted out, you wouldn't be eligible for a 'Team Win'.

We hope this goes some way to satisfying the concerns players had about the removal of 'Team Win/Loss'.

Crash fixes

We have fixed 3 of the game's most common crashes that have been reported. Thank you to everyone who have been submitting bug reports.
Our new bug report function can be found by clicking the '...' button in the top right corner on the home screen, and going to 'Report bug'. We encourage you to use the bug reporter to let us know when things aren't working quite the way they should be.

Messaging fixes

Wait, where did party text chat go?
Oh don't worry, it's back!

We have fixed text chat in the Main Menu when you are messaging friends or your party group.

Thank you as ever for your patience, and we'll see you in game!

5th Anniversary Update

Welcome to our 5th Anniversary Month!

In March 2017, Deceit began breaking friendships. This year, we’re celebrating our Anniversary with a month of updates and ending with the 5th Anniversary update itself: our event on the 31st March. The Event will be a culmination of all our hard work, bringing together this month of updates, and a time to let your hair down and party!

This first update is a chunky one, with some significant changes. You can scroll to the bottom to see the full patch notes.

Update 4th March: End game reveal, Escape Hatch, Labyrinth, Perks and ticket re-balancing

Today’s update release looks at a number of things: your in-game experience, how you level up and your loadout. Read on to find out more detail on each.

End game reveal

The post-game journey when you finish a match of Deceit hasn’t changed in over 4 years. Since 2017, players have gone through the Tickets breakdown and Give Some Love! screens before arriving in the Victory Experience with a timeline.

We thought it was about time to update the post-game journey, refreshing the look and making collecting all those tickets feel a lot more rewarding.

When three become one

Victory or Defeat, as a player you’ve been taken through the same three screens at the end of a match for nearly 5 years.

Now you head to one screen where the surviving team members will be highlighted by a spotlight, showing off your poses and customisations even better. Your ticket balance will update as the timeline appears, and your Challenges will update too. Hovering over each character, you can still give some rep to a player you think deserves it.

Time to shine, timeline

The timeline showing each player's actions throughout the match has a refreshed look, replacing icons that haven’t been changed in many years.
You can still hover over the timeline to see what times other players drank blood, performed critical actions like using the Inspection Kit, or when a Terror executed an Innocent.

Carry on talking

Before this update, as a match ended, so did the chance to Voice Chat with your fellow players.

Now the voice chat functionality has been programmed into the post-game Victory Experience, so you can wish each other ggs or finish the conversation you started before you go to another match.

You will also be able to talk to others in spectator chat. If you died by execution, or were voted out, to can talk to others spectating the game as it continues so you can discuss the strategies and tactics players are employing, and then talk to them about it in the post-game Victory Experience.

You’ll be able to use Voice Chat by pressing alt as default.

Do you have any thoughts on the new post-game changes? Let us know in the comments, or on the Discord.

Escape Hatch

Ever been so sure you’ve voted out both the Infected players but you’ve been left to continue through the next Night period, leisurely walking around the map replacing fuses until finally you can escape?

Introducing the Escape Hatch.

We’re removing the current system that will end the game early if all the infected are eliminated. Instead, we’re replacing this with a trap door that players can interact with once enough players have been voted out. In a game of six players, that means two people must have been voted out to trigger the Escape Hatch.

All players must vote to open the Escape Hatch for it to be opened (think Squid Game - if one person says no, everyone says no). If everyone votes, the game immediately ends. If there are no Infected left, the surviving Innocents will win. If there are still Infected left among the players, then the surviving Infected win the game.

What do you think of the Escape Hatch? Let us know in the comments, or on the Discord.

Labyrinth

“So, the Labyrinth is a piece of cake, is it? Well, let's see how you deal with this little slice…”

We introduced the Labyrinth progression system in September 2021 to combine some of our old systems including levelling up and perks.

Now, the Labyrinth has evolved: we wanted to put the focus on rewards, not walls, making what you’re collecting much clearer. You will no longer spend tickets to ‘lower walls’ in the Labyrinth. Instead, there will be one (or multiple) routes to the exit, with rewards placed along the path. You must purchase the rewards with your tickets, and cannot pass them until they’ve been purchased.
The only reward types now available on the Labyrinth are item upgrades, Perks, and Ultimate Perks.

Daily Token

Labyrinth token shards are no longer available. Instead, you can gain a free loot booth token by playing 5 games in 1 day, every day. Once you've completed your 5 games you will have to wait until Midnight (server time) in order to start earning your next token. You're able to play your 5 games across multiple days if you choose to.
We’ll be rounding up your existing Token Shards into Tokens you can find in the Loot Booth

Challenges

Challenges are no longer available on the Labyrinth, you now collect them in-game, similar to the current notes system.

Perks

Hopefully you will have seen our post about the new Perks coming to the game. All 31 are now available to get inside the Labyrinth.
What will your new loadout be?

Ticket re-balancing

How you gain tickets during a game has changed. There are now new ways to gain tickets for actions and for certain actions you take can now gain negative tickets, if you perform an incorrect action. For example, if you are Innocent and you use lethal injection on another Innocent player that will mean negative tickets. If you are spectating, you will also earn tickets for actions your teammates do such as ‘Power regenerated’ for Innocents, or ‘Player swiped’ for Infected. You will never come out of a game with negative tickets - we don’t want you to lose out for playing the game.

March Anniversary update calendar

Because one day isn’t enough, we’re celebrating our 5th Anniversary throughout March. Today’s update is just the beginning. Read on to find out what to expect for the rest of the month.

Anniversary update #2 17th March: Pre-game & Combat

Pre-game

Once matchmade into a game, on the menu, you’ll now be put into a pre-game lobby with other players you’re playing with. In here, you can select your terror, your Infected team mate, your perks, and your item upgrades.

After this pre-game setting, you’ll then load into the game, and instantly begin waking up. We hope this is going to make your game experience smoother.

We’ll make it so that item upgrades will no longer be available at crates in-game. Instead you will select which item upgrades you want activated in the pre-game lobby. Those upgrades will only be consumed if you collect that item in game.

Combat

We’re reworking a number of aspects to the combat in-game.

For Terrors, the ‘swipe’ animation that downs Innocents will be updated with something much more visceral. There will also be improvement(s) made to the ‘Enraged’ screen effect.

There will be a re-work of the ‘Torch’ item to make terrors significantly slower when walking towards you, but not when they’re walking away.

Anniversary update #3 24th March: Objectives, Onboarding, & Base Cosmetics

Objectives

What objectives you take and how you take them will be changing. We’ll be improving the interactions in-game, and updating the objectives you find on maps.

Onboarding

To provide a smoother introduction to new players, we’re making changes to how players first experience Deceit, including adding a new tips system.

Base Cosmetics

Part 2 of our base legendary cosmetics will be released, including some wristbands and a new pistol with a unique animation set: ‘Flintlock’.

31st March: Anniversary Event, UI improvements and narrative evolution

The main event will arrive at the end of March, with our 5th Anniversary Event starting on Thursday 31st March, running until 28th April.
You will have the chance to earn exclusive cosmetics and item upgrades

UI Improvements

We will be working to make the way the game looks and how it is presented cleaner and more visually appealing.

Narrative evolution

The occasion has also roused the attention of the Games Master, the secretive orchestrator of Deceit. Beginning with the Games Master, the Anniversary Event will mark the start of a much deeper exploration into the characters and events behind the asylum.

Ranked

We introduced Happy Hours to Ranked back in January, which we hope players have been enjoying.
At the end of March, we’ll be making some bigger changes to Ranked based on player feedback.

The Ranked season is resetting today (4th March) and this season will run until our event update on the 31st March. Then the following Ranked season will update when the Anniversary event ends on Thursday 28th April.

In-game Communication Improvements

Greetings Test Subjects,

Today the Game Master has an exciting update, primarily focused around helping you communicate in game.

Information Reporting System

See an empty blood bag stand, or a destroyed objective/fuse box? Now you can interact to report this to the group, alerting everyone to what you've discovered. If you find yourself as an infected, you can report your own mischievous behaviour to try and gain trust from the innocents and cover your tracks.

With this change, only the person who reports the object will be able to see the timer of when that activity happens. This change gives the opportunity for the infected to lie about the timers, and can cause innocents to question whether the information is trustworthy.

Instantly report suspicious activity to everyone by looking at it and holding [E] by default.

Quick Chat

If you're struggling to get your point across in the voice comms, or just don't fancy talking today, quick-chat is a great system to help you still be a part of the conversation. We've overhauled the system to bring a lot more depth to what you can say. With quick chat you can speedily instruct others, defend yourself, and of course, accuse people!

Access this new feature in-game by pressing [G] by default to bring up the quick chat menu.

Chat UI Visualisation

To pair with the above two updates, we've overhauled the visual of the in-game chat to be significantly more pronounced in game. Now, when chatting, each message will appear next to each character's avatar, as well as in the message log when pressing [Q]. This is also the case for messages sent through quick chat, as well as reported objects.

Happy Hour and Ranked Reset

This update marks the inclusion of a new feature that will encourage players to play at certain times. Playing currently these times are 4 PM and 1 AM GMT for 1 hour long each.

Playing during the happy hour will reward you with bonus ELO and marks!

The current Ranked season has also reset along with this new addition.

In-Game Moderation Tools

We've spent some time expanding and improving our moderation tools and processes. Although this change is primarily only visible in the backend, we expect to be able to review and action a greater number of reports in the near future. These structural changes we've made allow us to bring more volunteers on board to help us moderate the game, and reduce the number of people ruining the experience for others.

For this, we need you! If you would like to apply to join the in-game moderation team, you must do so by joining our Discord and sending “-apply” via direct messages to the @Game Master at the top of the member list. You can join the Discord here.

We will be looking over applications as they come in, but please do be patient!

2021 Festive Event

Hello Test Subjects,

Santa has jumped down the chimney and brought with him a festive event for us all to enjoy this holiday season, running all the way up until January 6th 2022. Collect brand new Christmas-themed item upgrades from the Labyrinth, collect presents in game to earn rewards, and complete the limited-time challenge sets.

Night Changes

We’ve reduced the number of dispensers and fuses, and the amount of power now slowly increases by itself. In combination, we believe this makes the map layout at night clearer, and introduces more interesting trade-offs between hiding and completing fuses.

In addition, the game master now auto-completes more of the night period after too many innocents are executed, based on how many players are remaining on each team. Infected will also receive a free execution when their team-mate dies (instead of free blood), or on the floor after a successful antidote. In combination, these changes make sure players are still rewarded for good plays without allowing either team to run away with the game.

  • The night period power bar now slowly fills up over time, which when full, opens the doors to the next area after a 10 second delay
  • The night period last for a maximum of 180/180/90 seconds per floor, respectively
  • Adding fuses to fuse boxes adds 30 seconds to the timer bar
  • There are 6/6/3 fuse boxes per floor, respectively, and their positions have been updated
  • Once a certain number of executions have been made each night, up to 50% of the timer bar is filled
  • If an innocent player is successfully antidoted, on reaching the next floor, the infected will have the execution refunded
  • When your infected team mate is killed, you’re now given an extra execution, in place of free blood
  • At night, your location is only briefly revealed to the infected when you pick up or place a fuse
  • The innocent’s scream when being executed is louder

Item Upgrades

Santa’s elves have been hard at work to bring you a bunch of new seasonal item upgrades that you can earn in the Labyrinth. These are:

Snowman Lethal Injection - The person that is injected will turn into a Snowman (or woman)! Damaging them, or waiting for the lights to turn out, will cause them to be eliminated.
Snowball Shotgun - Firing this Shotgun will shoot out a single Snowball, dealing 125 damage per hit.
Freezing Trap - Freezing Traps create an area of denial, causing any Terrors inside of it to be slowed and take damage over time. After the Trap is activated it will expire after 20 seconds.
North Star Camera - Any Terrors hit by this Camera will be highlighted to everyone for 5 seconds.
Candy Cane Torch - The Torch's beam will do more damage, but have a smaller hit area.

Mega Bundle

The Christmas Mega Bundle has been added to the in-game shop. It is available for $9.99 / £7.99 and contains the following content:

  • Event-exclusive ‘Toy’ knife skin

Alongside this, we added 2 new unlockable emblems for completing every challenge. One is permanent once you hit 100% once, the other is only unlocked whilst you have 100% (meaning as new challenges come out you have to re-obtain it).

General Patch Notes

  • Significantly improved the doors leading to the next floor:

    • Teleporting between areas has been tweaked to be a smoother experience
    • Players will no longer spawn in the air when reaching the next floor
    • Doors, in general, will open faster and will be less likely to shut directly in your face
    • Players should no longer behave as if they’re still in the gas after teleporting
    • Fixed players falling out of the map when transitioning to the top floor of the Asylum
  • The Labyrinth has had several improvements, including:
    • The rabbit will now hop when moving
    • The Labyrinth’s exit has been made clearer once it’s open
    • The Labyrinth now takes less time to load
    • You can now queue up rabbit movements by holding shift when clicking
    • Bug fix: You will inadvertently level up if you stand on the tile in front of the exit
    • Bug fix: You can’t move the Rabbit back to the center tile
  • Added a new Item Upgrade: ‘Paparazzi Camera’. Item description: Using the camera will cause multiple flashes, dealing less damage per flash but more overall.
  • A new ranked season has begun, and rewards have been distributed to ranked players for the November season. The new season will end on the 6th of January.
  • Significantly reduced the download size of the game (will cause a larger than usual update this time)
  • In-Game translations have been updated, thanks to our Community Translators.
  • Bug fix: Daily challenges incorrectly contribute to your Challenge completion percentage
  • Bug fix: Menu option for setting default item as pickup instead of upgrade doesn’t work
