Hello Test Subjects!

The Game Master has given us a short break from our busy schedule of preparing for the Spider DLC to bring you the annual Easter event!

Story Challenges


The Easter Bunny has returned and has done his usual thing of hiding eggs all over the place. Go into the Challenges screen on the main menu to start your progress in this year's free-to-play story, where you can earn XP, Credits, and Easter Tokens. Oh and the eggs that will be available during the event give XP, a great way to level up faster to earn more Easter Tokens.

Store Bundles


Head to the store and you’ll notice Easter Tokens are available. Using these will give you access to win this year’s rewards. There are also some special discounted bundles which also include credits which you can use to directly unlock cosmetics you like, and a double XP multiplier bonus on Easter eggs that you find when playing.

Patch Notes



  • The Ranked season has been reset, bringing a new Perk Tree to complete! Our next season reset is scheduled for the 29th of April. This perk tree brings several new and reworked perks:

    • Revitalised (Infected) - Gain half a blood bag worth of blood when revived by an Innocent player.
    • Surveillance (Innocent) - Reviving a player will reveal their position to you for 15 seconds.
    • Second Wind (Innocent) - Gain 25% of your stamina back after downing a Terror.
    • Hyperaware (Innocent) - Any Infected transforming near you at night will have their position revealed to you for the duration of the transformation.

  • All objective waypoints have been adjusted to be made clearer.
  • Reduced loading times for players who are experiencing poor connectivity.
  • [FIXED] The Infected lose an execution if the Lethal Injection is used.
  • [FIXED] The player information shown when loading into the Tutorial is not the same as your Deceit profile.
  • [FIXED] It's possible for the Infected to receieve blood for their partner leaving and to have a new partner assigned.
  • [FIXED] Objective waypoints for open crates are incorrectly removed if you move too far away from the objective.
  • [FIXED] Objective crates have UI prompts for holding 'E' instead of pressing 'E'.

In-Game Tutorial, Shoot-to-Vote, and 5 Player Custom Games

Hello Test Subjects!

This week we’re continuing to release improvements and act on your feedback: a playable tutorial for new players to better understand the game, objective changes to streamline the day experience, and tweaks based on community feedback, including shoot-to-vote in casual games and the classic game intro sequence.

Tutorial
  • The tutorial slideshow has been replaced with an in-game interactive tutorial.
  • We’ve created a ‘Play The Tutorial’ challenge that rewards players with 3 Tokens the first time they complete the Tutorial.
  • There is a new first time user popup screen prompting the user to play the tutorial.


Objectives
  • Objectives are now activated by interacting with the reward crate for that objective.
  • Reward crates are now automatically opened when an objective is completed.
  • There is a 7.5 second period when a reward crate is opened where only the person who completed that objective can take the item.
  • The time for an objective reward to de-spawn has been increased from 10 to 15 seconds.
  • A lot of the objectives have been moved to improve clarity and reduce frustration.


Miscellaneous
  • Terror abilities now unlock from the start of the game.
  • Various lighting changes have been made throughout all of the maps.
  • The game intro experience has been replaced with the classic introduction screen, with the addition of partner and terror select.
  • The detective perk is now enabled for everyone. Please note, if you have this perk currently selected it is recommended that you switch to interrogate for the rest of this season.
  • Shoot to vote is now the default option in casual games, as well as ranked.
  • A new small waypoint state has been added for when navigating around the map. The larger waypoint can still be seen when viewing the minimap, or whilst completing an objective.
  • The minimap has been lowered to the bottom of the screen and skewed.
  • The classic circular terror bar has been re-added.
  • Various UI elements have been moved.
  • The play button has been reworked to introduce a new game type selection screen.
  • It is now possible to start private games with 5 players.
  • [FIXED] When illuminated by light items the Terrors turn black instead of glowing.
  • [FIXED] The Experiment’s clone spawns at a different glow amount to the Terror that spawned it.
  • [FIXED] The minimap doesn’t follow the player you’re currently spectating.
  • [FIXED] The minimap doesn’t update if you’re viewing it while you respawned.
  • [FIXED] Players can, in rare circumstances, queue up for a game despite being on the wrong game version.

Increase player stamina if you are holding the antidote and someone has died
We realise that it can be frustrating when someone dies very far away from you. To some extent you can play around this as the antidote holder already, but we are still tweaking the maps which have excessively long corridors connecting areas. If this isn’t enough we can consider this again.

When the escape opens all the innocents get unlimited sprint just like infected have unlimited executes.
Right now it’s random which door is opened, so it’s sometimes a lot easier for innocents than others, based on random chance. This is something we’d like to address, at which point stamina may not be an issue here.

my personal opinion on stamina, i just dont like it, i loved deceit because it was fast paced and intense and action packed, stamina removes that and it feels like im playing a chess match :frowning: it just makes the game not fun
We think the change to make it night time only has addressed this. In general, we like how the game can be slower paced for newer players, and become faster paced for more experienced groups.

This isnt like a huge issue, but in ranked especially, if ur a known/older player, you cant use ur cool terror skins cause then people will know its u, for example i cant use like snowman, clown or demon cuz people will insta know its me if theres some sorta fix for this thatd be cool, maybe a random terror skin option could help! (this wasnt really an issue in old game mode cause game was solved first stage and it didnt matter as much, but now it kinda is)

Add a volume slider for each individual persons microphone in game. Everyone has different level mic volume in game and it will make the game much more enjoyable if I'm not earr***d by some and can't hear others.

when you release the 3D tutorial, add an option that will show tips in game (for new players)

We’ve had this in the past, but we feel that it’s not signposted very well, and it can make things confusing when blood can go down instead of just up, without clear enough benefits to fun. We’d like to hear examples of when this change would help make games more fun.

rework the terror health/speeds, a difference of 5% between vamp and yeti is not enough to make vamp viable especially when it has so little health that you can spawn camp it with camera knife. Either increase the speed difference between the terrors or increase the health of vamp and ww

I don't think anybody prefers the new voting system for casual, bring shoot to vote back.
Cons of the new system:
-too easy to be voted out or to cast a vote
-no excuse for not voting against a player
-noobs abuse the s*** out of it - half of casual games are ruined if you manage to be downed and have a vote called on you
-the votes required changes depending on the game size giving the infected the opportunity to vote too many players out per round (without innocent support)
We understand these cons, but there are also benefits to the new system. We are continuing to review voting and will post a full update in response to this very soon.

Patch Notes



  • Stamina has been removed during the day period. Our goal for this during the day was to encourage players to observe and play around more information, but players currently find it too frustrating. We are reviewing improvements that can be made in other areas to achieve this effect.
  • The Vampire & Werewolf now have an extra 20 health, bringing them up to 220 total. This means a close range Camera flash & Knife will no longer instantly down them.
  • There are now holes in the walls of the two new rooms in the ground floor of the Asylum for the Innocent to escape through.
  • The Voting waypoint has been replaced with outlining downed players & highlighting that they can be voted on in their nametag.
  • The ghost characters at night have had their visuals adjusted.
  • The filling in of highlighted players has been reduced, making it easier to see more detail about those who are highlighted.
  • When opening Deceit for the first time, the game will now open in native resolution borderless.
  • A clearer notification has been added for when the Double Objective item is taken.
  • Dodging a ranked game before it has properly started will now more consistently punish the player that is leaving.
  • Dodging ranked games will now remove a flat 5 ELO and, if not in Diamond, a mark.
  • Deceit User ID is now shown when hovering over players in your friends list.
  • Several UI adjustments were made in-game and on the Main Menu.
  • Adjusted some backend logic to improve server stability.
  • [FIXED] Bleeding out players say they're 'REVIVING' in their nametag.
  • [FIXED] A blood bag can occasionally spawn within a Generator on the ground floor of the Asylum.
  • [FIXED] Players can be instantly downed if they walk into a specific area on the first floor of the Asylum.
  • [FIXED] Players using Fullscreen & Alt+Tabbing during the loading screen will occasionally have their game freeze. This would cause long loading screens, that wouldn't successfully finish, for the other players in the game.

  • Our 4th Birthday Event has officially ended. Thanks for celebrating with us!
  • Increased both the duration and regeneration rate of stamina during the day by 25%. We'll continue to keep an eye on how stamina feels during the day and adjust as necessary.
  • Stamina now instantly regenerates when you respawn, or travel to the next floor.
  • Interactions are now only cancelled when damaged by another player, rather than when hit.
  • Resolved several map exploits in the Lumberyard.
  • Added 2 new small rooms on the middle floor of the Asylum.
  • Reduced the number of lights used in the Arctic map to improve performance.
  • Increased the XP awarded for completing a Generator at night by 10.
  • Hacking terminals, hitting targets & pulling levers now all award the player with XP.
  • The 'Vote' waypoint no longer displays when using the Shoot-To-Vote option.
  • Innocents are now warned that they're 'Making Noise' when sprinting during the day. As a reminder, whilst 'Making Noise' the Infected can see your position.
  • Added location labels to the Arctic's minimap.
  • Updated our translations thanks to our Community Translators.
  • [FIXED] Players are occasionally re-downed if already downed when transitioning to the next floor.
  • [FIXED] Several First Person animations didn't play as intended when reloading or jumping.
  • [FIXED] Your Infected Partner's rotation on the minimap is incorrect.
  • [FIXED] Occasionally Infected players can receive double blood for their partner being eliminated.
  • [FIXED] Using Quick Chat will stop your current interaction and stop you from using Voice Chat.
  • [FIXED] Players can't hear their own footsteps when playing a Female character.
  • [FIXED] Players occasionally spawn under the map on the Lumberyard.
  • [FIXED] The Arctic's minimap doesn't show all items available in that area, only that floor.

Deceit v2021.2.0 - Game Mode Update & Birthday Event

In this update we celebrate four years of Deceit, and update the game mode based on the feedback you’ve given us!

Birthday



This week we celebrate Deceit’s 4th Birthday! Thank you to everyone who has made this possible by playing and supporting us. We’re incredibly excited for what we have in store this year, and look forward to putting thousands more friendships in jeopardy... To celebrate we’ve introduced a small collection of cosmetics into the Loot Booth for a limited time:

Day Time Objectives



  • Items now freely spawn across the floor without assignment: 18 in the first area, 12 in the second, and 6 in the third.
  • Players can claim an objective by starting it, once you have done so you must complete it before moving on to the next.
  • Players are limited to claiming a set amount of objectives per floor: 3 in the first area, 2 in the second, and 1 in the third.
  • Players can view what items have been spawned, and what items are remaining, by using the ‘Q’ interface to view the minimap.


Night Time



  • Generators now spawn across the map, power them at night to bring the lights back on and progress to the next area.
  • Generators take a short 4 seconds to fix and give power. The amount of power required to turn on the lights is based on the area and players alive.
  • The Terrors have had their health & speed reduced to account for these changes.


Minimap


Whilst making your way around the maps, it is often frustrating to communicate with your teammates where you are, and it’s difficult to know where you’re meant to be going. To address this, we’ve revamped the minimap you see whilst pressing Q. Previously, this Q menu just showed a static, unlabeled image of the map which wasn’t all too useful. Today’s update brings a dynamic, information-rich map that is your go-to help you figure out your way to escaping (or stopping the innocents in their tracks!).


Voting



  • After starting a vote players will only be able to vote on the player that was downed, rather than both that player & the player that started the vote.
  • The required amount of votes to eliminate someone is based on the area, or the number of players remaining, whichever is lower.
  • Unchanged: In the Casual queue, you must interact with the body to trigger a vote, and all players can then vote from their HUD. This interaction can be interrupted if you take damage. In Custom games you can choose between this and shoot-to-vote.


Ranked



  • The ‘shoot to vote’ option is now default in the ranked game mode.

Congratulations to KingMilk for winning the recent community tournament, we thoroughly enjoyed watching the competition and we’re excited for the future potential of the competitive scene!

Gunplay



  • Aiming Down Sights (‘ADS’) has been dramatically improved, bringing new animations and several Quality of Life features.
  • A setting has been added for adjusting your Mouse Sensitivity when in ADS.
  • Reloading whilst holding ‘RMB’ will now correctly put you back into ADS at the end of the reload.
  • Pressing ‘RMB’ whilst sprinting will now cause you to stop sprinting and enter ADS, instead of requiring you to manually let go of ‘Shift’.
  • Waypoints are now translucent, instead of removed, when in ADS to enable players to see new waypoints that are popping up (for example when doing the target objective).
  • Players no longer drastically react when hit by bullets, causing them to distort and becoming momentarily harder to hit.
  • [FIXED] The gun doesn’t line up with the center of the screen for Female characters that are ADSing. This caused bullets to go higher than where you were aiming.


Movement Speed



  • To improve the pace of the game and create more tension at night we have added a stamina system.
  • Whilst running you will over time lose energy, when your energy is depleted you will still be able to sprint but slower.
  • Stop sprinting to regenerate your energy over time.
  • Make sure you’re saving your energy at night to get away from Terrors.
  • To account for these changes, terrors are now slower.


Maps



  • Each map has had more cover added to them, these can be used effectively in hiding from one another
  • The Lumberyard has been reduced in size, to bring it more aligned with other maps.
  • The bathroom has been removed from the ground floor of the Asylum.
  • A large number of consumable and blood bag spawns have been moved.
  • Fuse boxes now spawn in fixed locations.


Win Condition


Innocent can now get a team win if they are executed, wait until the end of the game & a fellow innocent escapes. If an Innocent is voted out they are not eligible for team win.


Patch Notes



  • The ranked season has been reset. With the new season comes a new perk tree, bringing two new emblems to unlock.
  • Players are now instantly killed if they’re executed and there is no antidote available to be used.
  • The ‘bleeding out’ period, after being executed, has been increased to 30 seconds.
  • Added a ‘Number Of Infected’ setting for Custom Games, you can choose between 2 (default), 1 or Random (either 1 or 2). If there is only 1 Infected they’ll be given extra blood as if their partner had been eliminated.
  • The ‘Detective’ perk will now only show bounds of when blood was drunk, instead of exactly when it was drunk. The potential options that it’ll show are “less than 20 seconds ago”, “less than 40 seconds ago”, “less than a minute ago” and “over a minute ago”.
  • The Tracker now lasts 60 seconds, but the information is only shown to you.
  • The travel time on Vents has been reduced by a couple of seconds. They will also now show you the position and progress of the generators whilst in them.
  • The number of Fuse Boxes on each floor has been reduced to 5/4/3. Each Fuse Box now reduces the time by 30/25/20s per floor.
  • Players are no longer outlined to the Infected during the day if they jump or shoot. They are still outlined when sprinting.
  • If a Quick Vote fails then the player being voted on will be automatically revived.
  • Muting players and viewing what challenges you currently are progressing have both been moved to the ‘Escape’ menu.
  • Improved our tracking of game server crashes & reduced the likelihood of unexpected issues happening after a crash.
  • Players no longer have their speed significantly reduced when going up & down stairs/slopes.
  • Our translations have been updated thanks to our Community Translators.
  • [FIXED] Traps sometimes go off but only slow the Terror instead of downing it too.
  • [FIXED] The ambient audio notifying you of a Terror being nearby sometimes incorrectly fades out, despite a Terror being close.
  • [FIXED] The game doesn’t instantly end if the last Innocent escapes whilst another Innocent is bleeding out.
  • [FIXED] Players walk in a non-intended way if they’re holding a knife or are crouching with a shotgun out.

Patch Notes



  • The Valentines mini-event has ended, removing the cosmetics from the Loot Booth & the Profile.
  • Quick Votes can now be cancelled by either reviving the player being voted on, or having the day timer run out (either naturally or by smashing a Fuse Box).
  • With the introduction of vote cancelling, the limit on how many votes can be called has been removed.
  • Character images have been added to the Quick Vote interface.
  • The last 5 seconds of the Day Period no longer stops votes from being started, or Fuse Boxes from being interacted with.
  • Discussions will now only start once everyone has voted in the Quick Vote, or the voting time runs out. If there are enough votes to eliminate a player the Discussion won't start.
  • Improved the visuals of the interaction prompt.
  • Further improved our metrics for determining why some players are unable to properly connect to games.
  • Improved how we handle our communication with Steam in order to mitigate any issues caused by Steam being under load.
  • Updated our translations thanks to the Community Translators in Discord.
  • [FIXED] The Valentines Rose melee weapons are given a blue outline to the Infected.
  • [FIXED] The in-game chat box cuts off the end of sentences.
  • [FIXED] Transforming into Terror form on top of a Trap will cause you to be a 'Terror' in Human form.
  • [FIXED] Players are able to interact with other players (voting / reviving) whilst being downed.
  • [FIXED] Re-pressing 'V' doesn't close the Quick Vote interface.
  • [FIXED] Players are presented with the Revive & Quick Vote interaction prompts before they're actually able to interact with the downed player.
  • [FIXED] After being downed, players need to re-press one of WASD in order to move again on spawn.
  • [FIXED] Pressing 'Q' interrupts channelled interactions.
  • [FIXED] Some consumable items are unable to be picked up in the Asylum.
  • [FIXED] Players are able to access areas of the map that they shouldn't be able to in the Asylum's Swimming Pool, the Lumberyard's Shower area & the Forest's final area.
  • [FIXED] Players are sometimes unable to interact with the Laptop in the Lumberyard's Shower area.

Valentine's Day Mini-Event

Hello Test Subjects!

Today we're bringing you our first ever Valentine's Day mini-event! A collection of love (and hate!) related cosmetics have been added to the loot booth, and are also purchasable from the profile page for Credits. The event will run for 1 week, ending on Friday 19th February. And that's not all, this Valentine's we're running a Double XP event until 11AM on Monday.

  • TSAA is now the default anti-aliasing option for Med/High/Very High.
