DECEIVE INC., the Multiplayer Game of Deception Launches March 21

We are pleased to announce that DECEIVE INC. will open for business soon, launching on March 21, 2023 on Steam. Starting soon, aspiring agents can stake their claim on upcoming super spy assignments with the DECEIVE INC. Standard Edition (MSRP $19.99 USD) and the DECEIVE INC. Black Tie Edition (MSRP $29.99 USD).

Players ready to start their career as a world-class Agent can look forward to diving into the world of DECEIVE INC. early, starting with a free PC multiplayer demo on Steam during the Steam Next Fest from Feb. 6 through Feb. 13. In addition, the developers at Sweet Bandits Studios have prepared even more early access spy training time with the upcoming DECEIVE INC. Open Beta, featuring cross-platform support. The DECEIVE INC. Open Beta is scheduled to run from March 10 @ 2 p.m. Eastern Standard Time through March 13 @ 11 a.m., and will be available to play for free on all platforms that the game will support at launch. Learn more and join the DECEIVE INC. community on the official Discord.

New players can expect hands-on time with all eight launch-day agents while they explore and master the art of espionage on two multiplayer maps: “Hard Sell” and “Silver Reef.” Hard Sell takes place at a luxurious mansion on a private island next to the Mediterranean Sea. Offering a mix of wide-open courtyards and close quarter rooms, Hard sell features a little bit of everything that DECEIVE INC. has to offer. Silver Reef pits players against each other deep under the North Sea in an underwater luxury resort. Players will navigate glass tunnels, luxury restaurants and guest rooms to hide from their opponents. To get the objective, agents will have to infiltrate a high tech submarine docked to the hotel which offers a close quarters feel for those agents who enjoy a healthy dose of action while they’re in the field.

DECEIVE INC. deploys you into the world of high-stakes subterfuge, working for a private corporation with a complete monopoly over the international espionage market. Disguise yourself as anyone (or anything) you meet in an instant, access state-of-the-art gadgets the rest of the world can only dream of, and unleash powerful skills that would make Hollywood super spies jealous. But you are not alone. Rival Agents are after the same objective and every single one of them is as skilled, cunning, and well-equipped as you. Blend in, grab the objective, and break out. In the end, only one agent can complete the mission and get the paycheck when working at DECEIVE INC. Company policy.

Agent Brief: Larcin

CODE NAME: Larcin
LEGAL NAME: François Claudet
Age: 30
COUNTRY OF ORIGIN: France
LANGUAGES: French, English
AGENT ROLE: Scoundrel

“I do get to keep whatever I find, right?”

PERSONALITY EVALUATION

Charming, suave and always dapper, Larcin has been known to pull off the most daring of heists, seemingly with no thought to how to unload his ill-gotten gains. It has been suggested that his true love isn’t the monetary gains, but that the chase and the showmanship is what motivates this smooth operator.

BACKGROUND

Hailing from Marseilles, France, Larcin’s reputation for being two steps ahead precedes him. No security system, nor detectives have been able to foil his audacious escapes. He even managed to steal an entire sailing ship from inside a museum, so he could sail it around the world in style. To this day, nobody knows how he achieved such burglary. The ship’s current location: Unknown

FILE UPDATE: There are rumors that Agent Cavalière has a history with the gentleman thief.

“My skills are in high demand. Understandable.”

WEAPON: Le Silence

Custom-engraved and tailor-made to suit Larcin’s peculiar needs, Le Silence are designed to be fired and be disposed of when emptied. More than one rival has been taken out by being on the receiving end of an elegantly tossed semi-automatic pocket pistol . Known for their high rate of fire, Le Silence proves to be a danger at close quarters, which is exactly where you will find Larcin.

AGENT PASSIVE: Merci Beaucoup

Larcin’s fast hands are one of his most valuable tools, as he moves about the room pilfering the pockets of his rivals for anything he needs, such as key cards, upgrades and even the mission objective.

AGENT EXPERTISE: Au Revoir!

You can’t stop what you can’t see, and Larcin is a master of disappearing right out from under grasping hands. With his patented smoke bombs, he uses the opportunities presented to either make a getaway, or set up his re-entry into the fray.

When rival agents see signs that Larcin is about, they better double check their pockets for valuables, as Larcin is already on his way to extract the premises with everything that caught his eye. Don’t believe he can do it? All the more reason for him to try!

Deceive Inc: State of The Build (Post Closed Alpha 2)

Good afternoon agents,

With the second closed alpha over we wanted to once again share some of the takeaways the team has and what is already changed and being working on. Please note that this is NOT an exhaustive list, and does not include everything that is and will be worked on. With that said, let’s dive in!

To help you navigate everything, this brief is split up into the following sections: Gameplay, Bugs, and Etcetera.

Gameplay
Thanks to our alpha agents, the team was able to verify some items that are now in a better place, compared to the first alpha, and areas where more work was still needed.

  • Addition of an Out Of Cover Outline
    • Out of cover enemies will now have a slight red outline around their silhouette. This is mostly to help newer players with identifying threats and to make team fights more readable at a glance.

  • Hardsell
    • Some windows in Hardsell are now openable, allowing Agents to make some quick escapes, or entrances
    • Agents will find that these windows open from the inside, and that some new windows are closed from the outside, preventing some areas from being as quickly reached at the start of the game.

  • Spy Checking
    • The team is investigating changes to make NPC spy checking more risky as well as tackling specific Agents ability to do so with impunity (Larcin)
    • AI behavior is being tweaked to make visually finding Agents in the field a bit harder

  • Third Partying
    • Agents picking up a rivals spy cache will now get 25 health, to improve their fighting chance against being jumped by other rivals right away
    • The team is adjusting weapon sound ranges so it is less likely you’ll hear them from across the map

  • Vault Terminals
    • Work is being done to see how Agents can be incentivised to pursue multiple vault terminals in solo play

  • Jump Fatigue
    • The jump fatigue is in the early stages of being reworked to make sure players understand more about what is happening and that it feels more natural

  • Agent Changes
    • With the major TTK (Time To Kill) changes of Alpha 2, the team is continuing to look into what balance adjustments are needed to make sure all agents, weapons and abilities are deemed useful.
    • Example: Yu-Mi is having some work done to make her feel better in player hands

  • Gadgets
    • Gadgets are having a cooldown time rebalancing. The goal is to reward players that go back to pick up their gadgets instead of simply destroying them all the time.
    • The Spyglass can now revive from afar in team mode.

Bugs

  • Social Interact fixes
    • Sitting will now work reliably and won't make agents sit in the air, sideways, or jump up in the air when coming in and out of it.

  • Found and fixed an issue that would lead to shots that would not connect when they should with projectiles such as Yu-Mi’s sling and Larcin’s thrown pistols.
  • Another priority issue the team is tracking is Mimics not showing up on briefcase scans

Etcetera
Items outside the direct game loop are also being adjusted to help improve the experience for Agents.

  • Currency earning from matches is continuing to be adjusted as we study how fast players are earning it
  • Agents will now see agent progress per match instead of only from leveling up

And the team is continuing to look into other feedback and reported issues from our alpha agents including:

  • Round start issues where agents could spawn too close to each other leading to unintended super early conflicts
  • Several weapon mods are being considered for reworks to help make them feel more unique
  • Continue to improve on features for streamers

To the agents that helped us with this alpha test, we can’t thank you enough! Please keep letting us know what you think and any bugs you encountered via Discord and the Forums. And something, we know many Agents have been waiting for, the team has compiled a Top 10 Leaderboard from the second alpha!

Some familiar returning agents and some new ones make up this list! Good job to all Agents, and don’t worry, we hope to be able to share more details about your next mission soon if you didn’t make the list this time: More testing in the near future!

The Second Alpha Test Has Now Ended!

Matchmaking is going down, matches in progress should continue until they end. Thank you all once again for your time in helping us test and please take a few moments to complete at least one of the following to help us more!

Important Update: The Alpha Invitation System Is Changing

Agents,

As part of our ongoing investigation and work into why some of you are having issues inviting and joining squads, we will be limiting new alpha invites to see if this reduces load on backend services.

What this means for new agents wishing to join Deceive Inc. is that they will now apply for access and we will be letting batches in in waves instead of instantaneous as before.

For more information about this issue please see the previous post here. Thank you for your understanding Agents and for your time, feedback and bug reports so far!
