To continue your training in preparation for future field work, we’ve put together a brief overview of the gadgets you can bring with you on missions. Remember agents, you only have enough room for two in your loadout, so choose wisely.
Defense: These tools are designed to help keep you safe out in the field by helping you (literally) bounce away from a situation or perhaps giving you the edge in a pinch. Seasoned spies will find even more ingenious ways to use these items to get the best of their rivals.
Auto-Turret
Bouncemat
Shieldbrella
Deception: A good agent blends in, an outstanding one is like a piece of furniture: completely ignored and overlooked. Even in the middle of a firefight, it is surprising what agents will overlook, especially if they are panicked and their own gadgets stop working.
Mimic
Scrambler
Traps: When leaving an area, or just ensuring problems for rivals attempting to follow, these gadgets will interrupt and disrupt the plans of your rivals. The choice of slowing them down directly, or perhaps breaking their cover in a room full of guards, is yours to make.
Goo Pod
Hack-Trap
Tripwire
Recon: Never make a move without knowing it all with the recon gadgets. Scout out locations, and even potential rivals, or sit back and siphon up that intel from afar, without any moves that will give away your presence.
Recon Drone
Spyglass
Operation Hard Sell Brief
Location: Spain Owner: Sebastian Garcia Target: The Bull’s Eye
Insertion: Party Guest Agent, you are being sent in under the assumed role of a guest of the “esteemed” Sebastian Garcia, former spy, now information broker to the highest bidder. He is hosting a “small” house party to flaunt his wealth and status, and that is your ticket in. For the guests with deep pockets, Garcia is hosting his 13th annual auction to sell off masterpieces from his private art collection. However, those in the loop know that Garcia is merely a masquerading charlatan: these pieces of high art, are in fact disguised sensitive information that should not fall in the wrong hands.
This sprawling mansion has several wings and floors to explore as you ready up for the next phase of the operation. Recommended locations to ply your trade include:
Sebastian Garcia’s Office
Sebastian Garcia’s Suite
The Observatory
Infiltration: The Mountain Vault Buried deep into the mountain behind the mansion is where the real work happens, both Garcia’s and yours. Your goal is to find and retrieve the Bull's Eye : a golden statue of a Bull's head hiding a drive whose private content is about to be sold to the highest bidder with the worst of intentions.
Your objective is likely located in the deepest most guarded part of the lair. Our intelligence believes it to be located at the top level as you make your way inside. But we have not confirmed this information.
Extraction: Mansion Exterior As always, we leave the extraction strategy entirely in your hands, but there will be vehicles waiting for your signal at several locations on the outskirts of the mansion. Good luck Agent.
Deceive Inc: State Of The Build
Good afternoon Agents,
The teams here at the Sweet Bandits and Tripwire Presents wanted to read you in on all the latest improvements happening with Deceive Inc. as the team's work towards our next set of public facing tests and our expected launch window of quarter 1 next year!
Agent Abilities Thanks in part to the stats and feedback gathered from the recent technical tests, follow up surveys, and continued internal iteration, the Bandits have been identifying agents that weren’t excelling at their roles and working to improve them. This has focused on tweaks, and even major changes, to agent passive and expertise abilities including:
Hans now inflicts a slow on his rivals who are impacted by his active ability
Squire now senses all the food around him with his active, making it easier to grab (heal) and go
Larcin has an updated passive mod option that allows him to make rivals drop something whenever he inflicts damage to break their cover, even from far away.
Weapons Handling Combat has had a major rebalancing and continues to be tweaked and changed. The goal here is to make the combat experience feel as exhilarating as the rest of the game flow. Agents will notice:
Fewer shots needed to down a rival
Many character weapons and variants have had their handling changed
Extraction Phase The team has continued to iterate on the extraction phase, with the intent to make it less punishing to be the briefcase carrier, and give them more gameplay options to set the stage for their hopeful victory. Among the changes agents will see in the next build are:
Increased time between carrier location pings
Increased time on how fast the location ping fills up when an agent moves at speed
Performance and Bugs Among the hundreds and thousands of other changes, the team has focused on improving performance (which will be an ongoing task) across all platforms and fixing bugs. Many of those bugs were discovered and reported by our alpha technical test players, so thank you!
Deceive Inc Agent Brief: Chavez
CODE NAME: Chavez LEGAL NAME: Ethan Chavez Age: 42 COUNTRY OF ORIGIN: United States of America LANGUAGES: English AGENT ROLE: Vanguard
“Can’t beat experience, apparently”
PERSONALITY EVALUATION
The most experienced agent in the field, he’s always one foot out the door and ready to retire, he can’t seem to stop himself from taking on ‘one last mission’. Rough, tough and with a heart of gold, he’s alway ready to protect his fellow agents, at least those he respects.
FILE UPDATE: Even though he was teaming up with top-of-the-line agents Ace and Knight, Chavez’ last mission went sideways: Operation Siege was a complete fiasco that led to a world-shaking debacle. However, Chavez didn't let this failure get to him as he appears more resolved than ever to make things right, once and for all. As one might expect, he's set on wanting to leave a better world for his daughters.
BACKGROUND
As an ex secret service agent, Chavez has a deep history of field work, and the stories to go with it. This family man has reached the peak of his career and seems ready to step out of the game, but the mystery of Knight’s disappearance, his love for “the great game”, and perhaps other secrets are holding him back from walking away... for the last time.
“One last time IRIS, I swear”
WEAPON: Sentinel
Chavez likes it “old school” and he’s carried around his revolver, Sentinel, for just about as long as he’s been in the field.
Sentinel may not have the ammo count of more modern weaponry, but it packs a punch in the right hands, and rivals that find themselves on the wrong side of his barrel, are in for some tough luck.
AGENT PASSIVE: Tough Luck
Thanks to years of experience, after returning to cover, Chavez knows how to get himself back into a more healthy state. This can come as a surprise to rivals who track him down after he’s fended another off.
AGENT EXPERTISE: Hard Boiled
When the situation gets too hot, Chavez is in his element. Appearing to shrug off rival damage, he can use this opportunity to make the right calls in how he wants to engage the situation. Time has shown that usually puts others within perfect range of Sentinel, and then they won’t be a problem for very long.
Rival agents should beware, this is Chavez’s ‘last mission’ and he won’t let them stand in his way.
We have some spare keys for tonight's Technical Alpha!

Deceive Inc Agent Brief: Squire
CODE NAME: Squire LEGAL NAME: Rupert Reid Age: 21 COUNTRY OF ORIGIN: United Kingdom LANGUAGES: English AGENT ROLE: Vanguard
“Agent Squire, reporting for duty!”
PERSONALITY EVALUATION
Young and fresh out of academy, many at Deceive Inc recognize a great potential in Squire. Now ready to apply what he has learnt to the field, he will need to focus and settle down in order to fulfill his mission. IRIS has compared themselves to a mother bird kicking their baby off the nest in order for them to learn how to fly.
FILE UPDATE: Agent Knight, who recruited and trained Squire, has gone missing.
BACKGROUND
Trained by Knight, agent of legend, Squire was taken under their wing as their protégé to become their successor. However, the mysterious disappearance of Knight, often regarded as the greatest spy of all time, has left some big shoes for this young rookie to fill, and the pressure is palpable.
“Don’t worry, I’m going to make you proud”
WEAPON: Lance
As a Vanguard, Squire is ready for any situation, and his gear reflects that.
His weapon of choice, the PT-08 ‘Lance’ pistol. Equipped with a silencer, and subsonic rounds, Squire can put his ‘Lance’ to use as the best spies should: quietly and unnoticed by those around. His preferred engagement distance is up close, but don’t worry, he’s always ready for what happens next.
AGENT PASSIVE: Always Ready
When Squire’s cover is blown by a rival, he gains a burst of speed to allow him to quickly find an exit to the situation, or engage the aggressor as his preferred range by closing the distance faster than they expect.
AGENT EXPERTISE: Eyes on the Prize
When Squire remembers to take a deep breath and focus on his training, he can quickly locate items of interest around him, from intel and key cards to enemy traps and gadgets. This allows him to plan his approach to situations with knowledge about what lies ahead.
Other agents shouldn’t plan on catching Squire in a sticky situation, he’s already rushing ahead.
Agent Archetype Brief
Agents,
Before you step into the field, you should know that there is more than one way to reach your goal. In fact, as the best spies around we hope that you already have several plays in mind before any situation arises. Have a plan, have a backup plan, and have a backup to the backup plan at the very least.
When on mission you will encounter multiple types of spies, who have certain affinities which may allow you to determine their next move. With that in mind let us take a look at the different types of agents you’ll find while on mission.
While perhaps the easiest of spies to understand, they are not to be underestimated. When the going gets tough, they find a way to carry on the mission. Keep an eye out for agents:
Chavez
Squire
These spies are on the hunt, and their prey is the most dangerous game of all… their rival agents. These agents already have their eyes on you:
Ace
Cavalière
With a knack for getting themselves into trouble, and somehow manage to slip away with the goods, you’ll never see these agents coming:
Larcin
Madame Xiu
Dangerous and unpredictable, these spies will definitely put a wrench in your plans. You won’t know what they’ll do next, and that is exactly the way these agents like it:
Hans
Yu-Mi
Be sure to let us know what type of agent you think you are in our forum poll! Forum members that post can enter into a special raffle to win a Tripwire game or DLC of their choice!
Agent Brief: Ace AKA ‘Ace of Diamonds’
CODE NAME: Ace (Of Diamonds) LEGAL NAME: Tamar Zaken DATE OF BIRTH: CLASSIFIED COUNTRY OF ORIGIN: Unknown LANGUAGES: CLASSIFIED AGENT ROLE: Tracker
“No matter how far, I’ll hit my mark”
PERSONALITY EVALUATION
Military-trained, Agent Ace has been documented as a natural leader, a true shot, and an expert with her weapon of choice, however it would be important to note that a past of broken trust and compromised missions has left her shaken with a determination to prove herself.
When working on the field, it has been noted that Ace may come off as blunt, stubborn, and a bit of a cold shoulder. However, none have ever said they would not put their lives in her hands, as she comes prepared to get the job done well.
FILE UPDATE: One of our first recruited agents when the collapse of the espionage agencies happened, partially due to a mission that didn’t end quite as well as it could have that Ace was involved with.
BACKGROUND
Before enlisting with Deceive Inc., Ace had founded her own espionage corporation called “ACES”. After a turbulent disbanding, “Tamar Zaken” decided to keep the callsign “Ace”, and was recruited into Deceive Inc. by another agent while out on the field.
“They never see me coming…”
WEAPON: Bolt Action Sniper Rifle AKA ‘Queen of Diamonds’
A force to be reckoned with at range, Ace is a relentless huntress, known to mark targets and track them down to be neutralized.
Her weapon of choice, the Queen of Diamonds is a bolt action sniper rifle. Equipped with a scope, Ace is able to perceive possible threats at a distance, and with a cover, able to take aim in plain sight. Ace is best from vantage points of great height, but sometimes close calls call for even closer, in person measures.
AGENT PASSIVE: Diamond’s Sting
While using her scope, Agent Ace is able to hone in her shot with much more accuracy and in turn, deals more damage. Likely a benefit of Ace studying the details through her scope.
AGENT EXPERTISE: Queen’s Gaze
Agent Ace has mastered the art of perception and uses her keen senses to spy those who aren’t what they seem. With her natural ability, she is able to track the steps of possible competitor agents that have been marked by a scoped sniper shot, and use this to her advantage to either follow her mark or take them out.
Other agents should watch their angles, because Ace already has them marked.
