Deck RX

[ENG/ES] How we create our environments? / ¿Cómo creamos nuestros escenarios?

¡Versión en español mas abajo!

[English version]

Some time ago we announced the second map for Deck RX - The WasteSands - and as we are getting closer to the date when we will include it in the ODB (Open Dev Access) builds, we are polishing some details!

This map has already been played by some players in the events we attended during last months of 2022, but now we have been changing some details here and there, mostly of its background, to make it stand out during the race without annoy the player.

This is what The WasteSands previously looked like.

The distance between camera and background landscapes in Deck RX forces us to develope very detailed environments or better said, environments full of elements and decorations to avoid them looking too empty.

This is a challenging task as we have to find the perfect balance to give the game a smooth performance without losing any graphic quality.

In this new WasteSands we have managed to reduce the amount of polygons from 2 million to only half a million.

Also, as an extra, we share some screenshots of what the map would look like without color, so that those more interested can visualize the geometry of the mesh we use :)

Soon you will have more news about the development of Deck RX! Remember to wishlist it here and tell-a-friend if you think they might be interested! That helps us a lot to reach more people!

See you soon!

Can you guess these cards?

Hello everyone!

Here we are again to show you the illustrations of the special starter cards we’ve designed for our new character, MOTHER.

And we would like to play some kind of game... If we show you the name and the illustration of the card, do you think you can guess what effect it has in the game?

We will show you these 3:

Bend Space:

Antimatter Shield:

Warp:

We also wanted to take this update to wish you HAPPY HOLIDAYS and a wonderful beginning of 2023, the year in which (we hope) Deck RX will have its official release!

Greetings to all of you and thank you so much for reading us!

New dialogues!

Hello once again!

Today we are here to show you one of the many changes we are making in Deck RX thanks to your feedback!

A lot of people have said that they were kind of annoyed by the dialogue frames that appeared after certain actions within a race such as duels.

We decided to introduce these new ones into the game, which are not only smaller but as you can see in the video below they let you know more precisely which vehicles are involved in the action and where they are at that moment.

Also, as you may see, they adapt to the camera position and movement.

We have taken into account the priority of the information that interests the player, being this

ACTION > VEHICLES INVOLVED > CAPTION.

This along with other changes will be coming to versions like the demo or the Open Dev Access that our Kickstarter backers have soon.

Tell us what you think about this change!

See you soon!

Sneak peek of MOTHER

This week we are celebrating the one-year anniversary of the Kickstarter campaign for Deck RX.

To celebrate this, we'd like to show you a sneak peek of MOTHER, the fifth playable character we've created for our deckbuilding racing game.

Although with some ups-n-downs, we are proud to say that Deck RX is getting closer to its release. We'll give more info about this character on the following weeks, since we are finishing her last details and cards, along with some other interface related changes.

We still working on improving the game interface and its visual aspect, as some of you may have already noticed.

We would also like to let you know that we will soon update the demo to show you some new content.

See you soon.

Bordeaux redesign

Hello everyone!

We are introducing you the new design of one of Deck RX’s main characters, Bordeaux.

We are working on visual changes, mainly focused on the interface and visual clarity issues of the game, trying to make the game easier to understand. We will be showing more of these changes in the following weeks but now, we will show you the visual rework of this character.

This is the new version of Bordeaux. We have made a complete redesign of the character to fit the look that we want for Deck RX. We have even added an animated metallic tail that we think gives personality to the character design.

We've also decided to change her entire look as well as her face, but we decided to keep her colors, as her ship – at least for now – remains the same. Oh yes, and she's missing an arm. She was too much powerful with two.

I said she was too strong with two because Bordeaux is still the deadliest racer of the Deck Races!

Here you can see a small tease of one of her cards. This one in particular makes impossible for the enemies to overtake her ship without starting a fight! Thanks to these exclusive cards that each character has, Bordeaux has a very characteristic fighting mechanics, being able to take advantage even when she's losing duels. Bordeaux can also vary the amount of hp enemies lose after receiving damage from a lost clash, so don't be surprised if you win the race by eliminating all your competitors!

We keep working every time we can on Deck RX, we have a lot of features and ideas and we are trying to implement them in the main game in a coherent way. Soon we will talk about a redesign we are working on for the Steam capsules and store presence! And maybe sooner than you think we will announce a new character... Stay tuned!

Remember you can follow the Deck RX development by following us on our Twitter, joining our Discord and wishlisting the game!

Thank you all for reading, see you soon!

Unfortunately, Deck RX will be delayed to 2023.

Hello! I hope this update finds you well.

It has been a while without updating you on how the Deck RX project is going and today, we finally bring you some news. The superbackers that are part of the Open Dev Access have more info on this topic as we talk to them from time to time on Discord about how the development is going. Feel free to join!

A Kickstarter campaign, although successful, with a total amount of 10.000€ like ours does not allow us to complete in its entirety the ambitious project we have in hand. And above all, we don't want to deliver a bad or unfinished product. We want to do things right and even if it takes us more time, even if it hurts us, we prefer to tell publicly that Deck RX will be delayed from Q4 2022 to 2023.

We made this decision because as some of you may know we are also Publishers for other studios, helping them to bring their games to the public both PC and major consoles.

We have already published Ignited Steel, on March and it will soon receive an update and will be ported to consoles. Also, we are currently working on Running on Magic, which is now available both on PC and consoles.

We are also working on commissions and collaborations that we are not allowed to announce yet but they will be revealed in the following months. We support our studio with these, allowing us to survive and keep making our own games on our spare time. Unfortunately, we have been especially busy these past few months.

As I was saying, we are forced to delay the release of Deck RX as well as its beta for backers with this reward tier just for a few months. We believe it is better to delay it and deliver a product that best resembles our intention with the game. We rather prefer this than launch the game on an incomplete state pretending it is in its final form.

We can show you that we are still working on Deck RX as soon as we can free up a few more weeks. A large update is underway, with a new pilot, new cards, a new world, a new enemy, and a whole new “inventory” system where you can equip parts on each car. Here's a video of a new map (with its special mechanic included and functional, though not with the final game's look) and a new character that is already in the game, Rusty.

We will keep informing about the progress of Deck RX both here and in our Twitter and Discord.

We hope you all are staying safe and fine, big greetings from all the Meteorbyte team!

We've changed...

Hi everyone!

After a few weeks, I’m once again here to show you what we’ve been working on for Deck RX but this time, it doesn't affect the content of the game although it's a really important change. We’ve changed the main logo of the title. We’ve been considering this for a long time now and we think it fits really well with the title because after almost two years of development we now know a lot more about Deck RX in comparison to when we first designed the logo.

We’ve made this decision to give the title a different style and show how we really want the game to look like. Here’s a comparison between old and new logo!

As you can see, the new logo is more simple and minimalist. We really think that the old one, even when it was more colorful and strong, didnt fit too well with the Deck RX aesthetic and it was less versatile. With the new one we seek contrast, combining it with the new main capsule design for the Steam store page. We also changed the subtitle "The deckbuilding racing game" for "Racing deckbuilding" simplifying the concept.

Vertical Capsule:

Small Capsule:

We’ve been studying similar capsules from deckbuilding titles to give Deck RX our own outer space/sci-fi style. Finally we chose Locust KV.26 stalking in a cosmic background accompained with the new logo.

This does not mean we got rid of the old logo, we are on a transition period right in the middle of the Deck RX development and this goes with both in and out-of-game aspects of the title. We are just trying what works and what does not. We just want the best for the game.

For example, do you think the Deck RX Kickstarter would have gone better with this new logo? We will never know but share your thoughts down below! We are reading you!

Hope this update finds you well and see you soon!

Deck RX development after Kickstarter

Hi again! Hope you are all doing well!

After the Deck RX Kickstarter, we’ve been working on several things related to the game and its development. As you may know, one of the rewards of the campaign was the Open Dev Access, this allows you to play an updatable demo in which we would add content that will be in the final game. First thing we developed was characters, playable and non playable ones, which will be used as enemies.

First, we gave live to Oraklos, the Deaf City’s special enemy. After this, we created Bordeaux, a playable character that is already part of Deck RX, and this time you are able to play as her! Now, the Open Dev Access Superbackers have a new character to race with! Bordeaux is a duel-related character and she’s focused on constantly fighting her enemies, check this video we’ve created for her release!

We are also working on other aspects of the game such as map variety.

Both in the free demo and in the open dev access, even when there are different racetracks, they are all within the same location so we are also developing a new map that will include new mechanics and circuits that do not appear in Deaf City. We already announced the second location of the game but now we have at least one racetrack prototype that we are able to show you as the new Deck RX environment! Its called The Wastesands (this name is still provisional)

And for the rest of the rewards, we are delivering them as fast as we can, we are a small studio and we don't have all the resources we would like but we are going slow and steady with it.

We will be giving more info about the Deck RX development in the coming weeks!

Thank you for reading and see you soon!
