Defense Grid 2
Mac version updated!
This small update fixes a few known issues and new problems reported by users since yesterday's release.
- Fixed issues with some Nvidea cards. If you previously added the -forwardshading option to the Defense Grid 2 launch options in Steam, you can remove that now.
- Fixed an issue in which OS X 10.7.5 could cause the game to crash.
- Defense Grid 2 should now be code signed so that it no longer causes OS X to warn the user that the application is untrusted on Mavericks, depending on user settings.
- Fix for situations in which the Defense Grid 2 launcher web page was appearing in the user's default browser. If you still experience this problem, please let us know!
Mac and Linux versions are here!
The Mac and Linux versions are here!
We are still looking into the known issues and will update the builds as needed. Enjoy!
If you have the previous version of the Mac or Linux builds, please be sure to completely uninstall before updating to the latest version.
Known issues:
- Players cannot type in the chat field during a multiplayer session, but Steam chat will still function.
- Players using a gamepad may see their mouse cursor vanish temporarily if they open a Steam menu with the gamepad.
- Defense Grid 2 may crash on shutdown. This is a non-destructive crash and will not incur data loss.
- Crossplatform multiplayer matchmaking is not yet function.
- Crossplatform multiplayer games will function via game invites, but there may be odd or buggy behavior.
- [Mac only] There are some issues with Nvidea video cards that can cause rendering problems with shadows, fog, and visual effects. A workaround is to add -forwardshading to the Launch Options within Steam. This will reduce overall visual quality but will be an improvement if you experience these issues.
Mac beta unavailable in preperation for release
The Mac beta version of the game will be unavailable as we prepare for the release of the Mac and Linux versions on Oct. 14th.

Mac & SteamOS versions final by October 14th.
[Pinning to Top] When you purchase Defense Grid 2 on Steam, you can play the game on Windows, Mac, and SteamOS/Linux. If you wish to check out the SteamOS & Mac versions prior to October 14th, you have access to early-but-not-complete versions of Defense Grid 2 that are lower in performance than the final game will be, do not save out settings, and which still have some bugs and issues that will be updated and resolved in time for an October 14th ship. We apologize for not having all 5 platforms that we targeted ready for September 23rd, but Mac and SteamOS are close and will be final soon.
Weekend Update
Some DG2 Fixes for Your Weekend: Today we're releasing an update that helps increase launcher performance and fixes several bugs.
- Launcher now loads locally and only a few elements are populated when an online connection is present
- Local multiplayer mouse fixes implemented
- Korean language support reinstated and working again
- Crash bugs during multiplayer invite loading fixed
- Fast forward keyboard remapping now saved
Free DLC & Community Level Store
Today, we're opening up the free DLC offer for registering your email. Click in the upper left hand area of the launcher to go to the registration site. A free Steam key for the Designer's cut of Double-Take will be sent to your email for you to redeem.
We're also opening up the in-game store featuring four new player-designed levels. We're excited to share their hard work with you. For today, after you purchase any levels in-game, you'll need to restart DG2 in order for the game to recognize your purchase. A fix for that issue should come out tomorrow. Other fixes today include ones which should stabilize and speed up launcher performance. ALso, if for some reason you can't load the laucher (or you're playing offline) use the "-skiplauncher" command line argument in the Steam "set launch options" button on the general properties tab. Later, we plan to have the launcher mode work offline without you having to do this.
Those who pre-ordered DG2 should now have "A Matter of Endurance" available. We hope you enjoy it.
Mac and Linux beta builds are also now available to people with those platforms to check out as we continue to work on them. Performance is very low and will speed up significantly, also things such as changing graphics settings and having it store those settings will be working in upcoming versions.
Thanks so much!
